1Als nun jene drei Männer Hiob nicht mehr antworteten, weil er sich für gerecht hielt,
2da entbrannte der Zorn Elihus, des Sohnes Barachels, von Bus aus dem Geschlechte Ram. Über Hiob ward er zornig, weil er sich Gotte gegenüber für gerecht hielt,
3und über seine drei Freunde ward er zornig, weil sie nicht Antwort gefunden hatten, um Hiob sein Unrecht zu beweisen.
4Elihu hatte aber mit seiner Rede an Hiob gewartet, weil jene betagter waren als er.
5Als aber Elihu sah, daß der Mund der drei Männer nichts mehr zu antworten wußte, da entbrannte sein Zorn.
6Und so hob Elihu, der Sohn Barachels, von Bus, also an: Ich bin noch jung an Jahren, und ihr seid Greise; darum war ich furchtsam und scheute mich, euch kund zu geben, was ich weiß.
7Ich dachte: Mag das Alter reden, und die Menge der Jahre Weisheit lehren!
8Allein, der Geist im Menschen ist es und der Odem des Allmächtigen, der sie verständig macht.
9Nicht die Betagten sind die Weisesten, noch verstehen die Greise, was das Rechte ist.
10Darum sage ich: Höre mir zu; auch ich will nun kundgeben, was ich weiß.
11Seht, ich habe eure Reden abgewartet, horchte auf eure Lehren, bis ihr die rechten Worte ergründen würdet.
12Ja, auf euch habe ich acht gehabt, doch siehe, da war keiner unter euch, der Hiob überführt, der seine Worte widerlegt hätte.
13Sagt nicht: “Wir sind auf Weisheit gestoßen; nur Gott vermag ihn zu schlagen, nicht ein Mensch!”
14Gegen mich hat er keine Beweise gerichtet, und mit euren Worten werd' ich ihm nicht antworten.
15Sie sind bestürzt, antworten nicht mehr; die Worte sind ihnen ausgegangen.
16Und ich sollte warten, weil sie nicht reden, weil sie dastehen, ohne mehr Antwort zu geben?
17Ich will auch mein Teil antworten, will auch meinerseits kundgeben, was ich weiß.
18Denn ich bin voll von Worten; mich drängt der Geist in meinem Inneren.
19Fürwahr, mein Inneres gleicht festverschlossenem Wein; wie neugefüllte Schläuche will es platzen.
20Reden will ich, um mir Luft zu machen, will mein Lippen aufthun und entgegnen.
21Für niemand werde ich Partei ergreifen und werde keinem Menschen schmeicheln.
22Denn ich verstehe mich nicht aufs Schmeicheln; gar leicht würde mich sonst mein Schöpfer hinwegnehmen.

1Y CESARON estos tres varones de responder á Job, por cuanto él era justo en sus ojos.
2Entonces Eliú hijo de Barachêl, Bucita,, de la familia de Ram, se enojó con furor contra Job: enojóse con furor, por cuanto justificaba su vida más que á Dios.
3Enojóse asimismo con furor contra sus tres amigos, porque no hallaban qué responder, aunque habían condenado á Job.
4Y Eliú había esperado á Job en la disputa, porque eran más viejos de días que él.
5Empero viendo Eliú que no había respuesta en la boca de aquellos tres varones, su furor se encendió.
6Y respondió Eliú hijo de Barachêl, Bucita, y dijo: Yo soy menor de días, y vosotros viejos; he tenido por tanto miedo, y temido declararos mi opinión.
7Yo decía: Los días hablarán, y la muchedumbre de años declarará sabiduría.
8Ciertamente espíritu hay en el hombre, é inspiración del Omnipotente los hace que entiendan.
9No los grandes son los sabios, ni los viejos entienden el derecho.
10Por tanto yo dije: Escuchadme; declararé yo también mi sabiduría.
11He aquí yo he esperado á vuestras razones, he escuchado vuestros argumentos, en tanto que buscabais palabras.
12Os he pues prestado atención, y he aquí que no hay de vosotros quien redarguya á Job, y responda á sus razones.
13Porque no digáis: Nosotros hemos hallado sabiduría: lanzólo Dios, no el hombre.
14Ahora bien, Job no enderezó á mí sus palabras, ni yo le responderé con vuestras razones.
15Espantáronse, no respondieron más: fuéronseles los razonamientos.
16Yo pues he esperado, porque no hablaban, antes pararon, y no respondieron más.
17Por eso yo también responderé mi parte, también yo declararé mi juicio.
18Porque lleno estoy de palabras, y el espíritu de mi vientre me constriñe.
19De cierto mi vientre está como el vino que no tiene respiradero, y se rompe como odres nuevos.
20Hablaré pues y respiraré; abriré mis labios, y responderé.
21No haré ahora acepción de personas, ni usaré con hombre de lisonjeros títulos.
22Porque no sé hablar lisonjas: de otra manera en breve mi Hacedor me consuma.

1So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2Then was kindled the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram: against Job was his wrath kindled, because he justified himself rather than God.
3Also against his three friends was his wrath kindled, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
4Now Elihu had waited till Job had spoken, because they were elder than he.
5When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, then his wrath was kindled.
6And Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said, I am young, and ye are very old; wherefore I was afraid, and durst not shew you mine opinion.
7I said, Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.
8But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding.
9Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment.
10Therefore I said, Hearken to me; I also will shew mine opinion.
11Behold, I waited for your words; I gave ear to your reasons, whilst ye searched out what to say.
12Yea, I attended unto you, and, behold, there was none of you that convinced Job, or that answered his words:
13Lest ye should say, We have found out wisdom: God thrusteth him down, not man.
14Now he hath not directed his words against me: neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15They were amazed, they answered no more: they left off speaking.
16When I had waited, (for they spake not, but stood still, and answered no more;)
17I said, I will answer also my part, I also will shew mine opinion.
18For I am full of matter, the spirit within me constraineth me.
19Behold, my belly is as wine which hath no vent; it is ready to burst like new bottles.
20I will speak, that I may be refreshed: I will open my lips and answer.
21Let me not, I pray you, accept any man’s person, neither let me give flattering titles unto man.
22For I know not to give flattering titles; in so doing my maker would soon take me away.

1So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he was righteous in his own eyes.
2Then the wrath of Elihu the son of Barachel, the Buzite, of the family of Ram, was kindled against Job. His wrath was kindled because he justified himself rather than God.
3Also his wrath was kindled against his three friends, because they had found no answer, and yet had condemned Job.
4Now Elihu had waited to speak to Job, because they were older than he.
5When Elihu saw that there was no answer in the mouth of these three men, his wrath was kindled.
6Elihu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered, “I am young, and you are very old. Therefore I held back, and didn’t dare show you my opinion.
7I said, ‘Days should speak, and multitude of years should teach wisdom.’
8But there is a spirit in man, and the Spirit of the Almighty gives them understanding.
9It is not the great who are wise, nor the aged who understand justice.
10Therefore I said, ‘Listen to me; I also will show my opinion.’
11“Behold, I waited for your words, and I listened for your reasoning, while you searched out what to say.
12Yes, I gave you my full attention, but there was no one who convinced Job, or who answered his words, among you.
13Beware lest you say, ‘We have found wisdom. God may refute him, not man;’
14for he has not directed his words against me; neither will I answer him with your speeches.
15“They are amazed. They answer no more. They don’t have a word to say.
16Shall I wait, because they don’t speak, because they stand still, and answer no more?
17I also will answer my part, and I also will show my opinion.
18For I am full of words. The spirit within me constrains me.
19Behold, my breast is as wine which has no vent; like new wineskins it is ready to burst.
20I will speak, that I may be refreshed. I will open my lips and answer.
21Please don’t let me respect any man’s person, neither will I give flattering titles to any man.
22For I don’t know how to give flattering titles, or else my Maker would soon take me away.
