pues jamás el forastero se quedó de noche al descubierto, porque yo abría mis puertas al pasajero;

El extranjero no tenía fuera la noche; mis puertas abría al caminante.

The stranger did not lodge in the street: but I opened my doors to the traveller.

(the foreigner has not camped in the street, but I have opened my doors to the traveler);
