Ahora aquellos que son más jóvenes que yo no tienen nada sino burlas para mí, estos jóvenes a cuyos padres yo reusaría permitir que trabajaran al lado de los perros de mi rebaño.
MAS ahora los más mozos de días que yo, se ríen de mí; cuyos padres yo desdeñara ponerlos con los perros de mi ganado.
But now they that are younger than I have me in derision, whose fathers I would have disdained to have set with the dogs of my flock.

En realidad, ¿cómo podría ayudarme la fuerza de las manos de sus padres, hombres quiénes a causa de su edad avanzada su fuerza ha perecido?
Porque ¿para qué yo habría menester la fuerza de sus manos, en los cuales había perecido con el tiempo?
Yea, whereto might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom old age was perished?
Of what use is the strength of their hands to me, men in whom ripe age has perished?
Ellos estaban flacos a causa de su pobreza y hambre; ellos roían la tierra seca en la oscuridad del desierto y la desolación.
Por causa de la pobreza y del hambre andaban solos; huían á la soledad, á lugar tenebroso, asolado y desierto.
For want and famine they were solitary; fleeing into the wilderness in former time desolate and waste.
They are gaunt from lack and famine. They gnaw the dry ground, in the gloom of waste and desolation.
Ellos arrancaban yerbas amargas y hojas de arbustos; las raíces de retama eran su alimento.
Que cogían malvas entre los arbustos, y raíces de enebro para calentarse.
Who cut up mallows by the bushes, and juniper roots for their meat.
They pluck salt herbs by the bushes. The roots of the broom tree are their food.
Ellos fueron expulsados de entre los pueblos quienes gritaron detrás de ellos como uno lo haría detrás de un ladrón.
Eran echados de entre las gentes, y todos les daban grita como al ladrón.
They were driven forth from among men, (they cried after them as after a thief;)

Así que ellos tuvieron que vivir en los valles de los ríos, en hoyos en la tierra y en las rocas.
Habitaban en las barrancas de los arroyos, en las cavernas de la tierra, y en las rocas.
To dwell in the clifts of the valleys, in caves of the earth, and in the rocks.
so that they live in frightful valleys, and in holes of the earth and of the rocks.
Entre los arbustos ellos rebuznaban como burros; se reunían bajo los arbustos.
Bramaban entre las matas, y se reunían debajo de las espinas.
Among the bushes they brayed; under the nettles they were gathered together.
They bray among the bushes. They are gathered together under the nettles.
Ellos eran hijos de tontos, en realidad, hijos de gente sin nombre. Ellos fueron expulsados de la tierra a latigazos
Hijos de viles, y hombres sin nombre, más bajos que la misma tierra.
They were children of fools, yea, children of base men: they were viler than the earth.
They are children of fools, yes, children of wicked men. They were flogged out of the land.
Pero ahora, para sus hijos yo he venido a ser motivo de una canción de burla; en efecto, ahora yo soy una broma para ellos.
Y ahora yo soy su canción, y he sido hecho su refrán.
And now am I their song, yea, I am their byword.
“Now I have become their song. Yes, I am a byword to them.
Ellos me aborrecen y se paran lejos de mí; ellos no se retraen de escupir en mi cara.
Abomínanme, aléjanse de mí, y aun de mi rostro no detuvieron su saliva.
They abhor me, they flee far from me, and spare not to spit in my face.
They abhor me, they stand aloof from me, and don’t hesitate to spit in my face.
Pues Dios ha aflojado la cuerda a mi arco y me ha afligido, y aquellos que se burlan de mí lo hacen en mí cara sin ninguna restricción.
Porque Dios desató mi cuerda, y me afligió, por eso se desenfrenaron delante de mi rostro.
Because he hath loosed my cord, and afflicted me, they have also let loose the bridle before me.
For he has untied his cord, and afflicted me; and they have thrown off restraint before me.
Sobre mi mano derecha se levanta la chusma; ellos me llevan lejos y apilan contra mí sus montículos de asedio.
A la mano derecha se levantaron los jóvenes; empujaron mis pies, y sentaron contra mí las vías de su ruina.
Upon my right hand rise the youth; they push away my feet, and they raise up against me the ways of their destruction.
On my right hand rise the rabble. They thrust aside my feet. They cast their ways of destruction up against me.
Ellos destruyen mi camino; y empujan hacia adelante el desastre para mí, hombres quienes no tienen a nadie que los detenga.
Mi senda desbarataron, aprovecháronse de mi quebrantamiento, contra los cuales no hubo ayudador.
They mar my path, they set forward my calamity, they have no helper.
They mar my path. They promote my destruction without anyone’s help.
Ellos vinieron contra mí como un ejército a través de un hoyo ancho en el muro de una ciudad; en medio de la destrucción ellos rodaron sobre mí.
Vinieron como por portillo ancho, revolviéronse á mi calamidad.
They came upon me as a wide breaking in of waters: in the desolation they rolled themselves upon me.
As through a wide breach they come. They roll themselves in amid the ruin.
El terror se tornó sobre mí; mi honor es llevado lejos como por el viento; mi prosperidad se discipa como una nube.
Hanse revuelto turbaciones sobre mí; combatieron como viento mi alma, y mi salud pasó como nube.
Terrors are turned upon me: they pursue my soul as the wind: and my welfare passeth away as a cloud.
Terrors have turned on me. They chase my honor as the wind. My welfare has passed away as a cloud.
Ahora mi vida se está derramando en mí; muchos días de sufrimiento me han agarrado.
Y ahora mi alma está derramada en mí; días de aflicción me han aprehendido.
And now my soul is poured out upon me; the days of affliction have taken hold upon me.
“Now my soul is poured out within me. Days of affliction have taken hold of me.
En la noche mis huesos son perforados; los dolores que roen en mí no descansan.
De noche taladra sobre mí mis huesos, y mis pulsos no reposan.
My bones are pierced in me in the night season: and my sinews take no rest.
In the night season my bones are pierced in me, and the pains that gnaw me take no rest.
La gran fuerza de Dios ha agarrado mis vestidos; me ha envuelto como el collar de la túnica.
Con la grande copia de materia mi vestidura está demudada; cíñeme como el cuello de mi túnica.
By the great force of my disease is my garment changed: it bindeth me about as the collar of my coat.
My garment is disfigured by great force. It binds me about as the collar of my tunic.
Él me ha lanzado al lodo; he venido a ser como polvo y cenizas.
Derribóme en el lodo, y soy semejante al polvo y á la ceniza.
He hath cast me into the mire, and I am become like dust and ashes.

Yo ruego a Tí, pero Tú no me respondes; me pongo de pie, y Tú apenas me miras.

Tú has cambiado y has sido cruel conmigo; con la fuerza de tu mano me persigues.

Levantásteme, é hicísteme cabalgar sobre el viento, y disolviste mi sustancia.
Thou liftest me up to the wind; thou causest me to ride upon it, and dissolvest my substance.
You lift me up to the wind, and drive me with it. You dissolve me in the storm.
Pues yo se que Tú me llevarás a la muerte, a la casa destinada para todas las cosas vivientes.
Porque yo conozco que me reduces á la muerte; y á la casa determinada á todo viviente.
For I know that thou wilt bring me to death, and to the house appointed for all living.

Sin embargo, ¿quién no extiende sus manos para rogar por ayuda cuando cae? ¿Quién en problemas no pide ayuda?
Mas él no extenderá la mano contra el sepulcro; ¿clamarán los sepultados cuando él los quebrantare?
Howbeit he will not stretch out his hand to the grave, though they cry in his destruction.
“However doesn’t one stretch out a hand in his fall? Or in his calamity therefore cry for help?
¿No lloré yo por el que estaba en problemas? ¿No me afligí por el hombre en nesecidad?
¿No lloré yo al afligido? Y mi alma ¿no se entristeció sobre el menesteroso?
Did not I weep for him that was in trouble? was not my soul grieved for the poor?
Didn’t I weep for him who was in trouble? Wasn’t my soul grieved for the needy?
Cuando yo buscaba el bien, entonces vino el mal; cuando yo esperaba la luz, en su lugar vino oscuridad.

My skin is black upon me, and my bones are burned with heat.

Por lo tanto, mi arpa esta afinada para canciones de luto, mi flauta para el canto de aquellos que lloran.
Y hase tornado mi arpa en luto, y mi órgano en voz de lamentadores.
My harp also is turned to mourning, and my organ into the voice of them that weep.
Therefore my harp has turned to mourning, and my pipe into the voice of those who weep.
