Job 13

1“Look, my eye has seen everything; my ear has heard and has understood it.
2⌞What you know⌟, I myself also know— I am not more inferior than you.
3But I would speak to Shaddai, and I desire to argue with God.
4“But you ⌞whitewash with lies⌟; all of you are ⌞worthless healers⌟.
5⌞O that⌟ you would keep completely silent, and that it would become wisdom for you.
6Please hear my argument, and listen attentively to the pleadings of my lips.
7“Will you speak falsely for God? And will you speak deceitfully for him?
8⌞Will you show partiality for him⌟? Or do you want to plead God’s case?
9Will it be well, if he examines you? Or can you deceive him like deceiving a human being?
10“Surely he will rebuke you if ⌞you show partiality⌟ in secret.
11Will not his majesty terrify you, and his dread fall upon you?
12Your maxims are proverbs of ashes; your defenses are defenses of clay.
13“⌞Let me have silence⌟, and I myself will speak, and let come over me whatever may.
14Why should I take my flesh in my teeth and put my life in my hand?
15Look, though he kill me, I will hope in him; however, I will defend my ways ⌞before him⌟.
16Moreover, this is salvation to me, that the godless would not come ⌞before him⌟.
17“Listen carefully to my words, and let my exposition be in your ears.
18Please look, I have prepared my case; I know that I myself will be vindicated.
19Who is he who will contend with me? For ⌞then⌟ I would be silent, and I would pass away.
20“Only you must not do these two things to me; then I will not hide from your face:
21withdraw your hand from me, and let not your dread terrify me.
22Then call, and I myself will answer; or let me speak, then reply to me.
23“⌞How many⌟ are my iniquities and sins? Make known to me my transgression and my sin.
24Why do you hide your face and count me as your enemy?
25Will you terrify a blown leaf? And will you pursue dry stubble?
26“Indeed, you write bitter things against me, and you make me reap the iniquities of my childhood.
27And you put my feet in the block, and you watch all my paths; you carve a mark on the soles of my feet.
28And he himselfwastes away like something rotten, like a garment that the moth has eaten.

1HE AQUÍ que todas estas cosas han visto mis ojos, y oído y entendido de por sí mis oídos.
2Como vosotros lo sabéis, lo sé yo; no soy menos que vosotros.
3Mas yo hablaría con el Todopoderoso, y querría razonar con Dios.
4Que ciertamente vosotros sois fraguadores de mentira; sois todos vosotros médicos nulos.
5Ojalá callarais del todo, porque os fuera sabiduría.
6Oid ahora mi razonamiento, y estad atentos á los argumentos de mis labios.
7¿Habéis de hablar iniquidad por Dios? ¿habéis de hablar por él engaño?
8¿Habéis de hacer acepción de su persona? ¿habéis de pleitear vosotros por Dios?
9¿Sería bueno que él os escudriñase? ¿os burlaréis de él como quien se burla de algún hombre?
10El os reprochará de seguro, si solapadamente hacéis acepción de personas.
11De cierto su alteza os había de espantar, y su pavor había de caer sobre vosotros.
12Vuestras memorias serán comparadas á la ceniza, y vuestros cuerpos como cuerpos de lodo.
13Escuchadme, y hablaré yo, y véngame después lo que viniere.
14¿Por qué quitaré yo mi carne con mis dientes, y pondré mi alma en mi mano?
15He aquí, aunque me matare, en él esperaré; empero defenderé delante de él mis caminos.
16Y él mismo me será salud, porque no entrará en su presencia el hipócrita.
17Oid con atención mi razonamiento, y mi denunciación con vuestros oídos.
18He aquí ahora, si yo me apercibiere á juicio, sé que seré justificado.
19¿Quién es el que pleiteará conmigo? porque si ahora yo callara, fenecería.
20A lo menos dos cosas no hagas conmigo; entonces no me esconderé de tu rostro:
21Aparta de mí tu mano, y no me asombre tu terror.
22Llama luego, y yo responderé; ó yo hablaré, y respóndeme tú.
23¿Cuántas iniquidades y pecados tengo yo? hazme entender mi prevaricación y mi pecado.
24¿Por qué escondes tu rostro, y me cuentas por tu enemigo?
25¿A la hoja arrebatada has de quebrantar? ¿y á una arista seca has de perseguir?
26¿Por qué escribes contra mí amarguras, y me haces cargo de los pecados de mi mocedad?
27Pones además mis pies en el cepo, y guardas todos mis caminos, imprimiéndolo á las raíces de mis pies.
28Y el cuerpo mío se va gastando como de carcoma, como vestido que se come de polilla.

1Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
2What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
5O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
8Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?
9Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?
10He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
11Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
12Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
14Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
18Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
19Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
20Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.
21Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.
22Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.
23How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
24Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
25Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
26For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
27Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
28And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.

7Will you speak unrighteously for God, and talk deceitfully for him?
8Will you show partiality to him? Will you contend for God?
9Is it good that he should search you out? Or as one deceives a man, will you deceive him?
10He will surely reprove you if you secretly show partiality.
11Won’t his majesty make you afraid and his dread fall on you?
12Your memorable sayings are proverbs of ashes. Your defenses are defenses of clay.

18See now, I have set my cause in order. I know that I am righteous.
19Who is he who will contend with me? For then I would hold my peace and give up the spirit.
20“Only don’t do two things to me, then I will not hide myself from your face:
21withdraw your hand far from me, and don’t let your terror make me afraid.
22Then call, and I will answer, or let me speak, and you answer me.
23How many are my iniquities and sins? Make me know my disobedience and my sin.
24Why do you hide your face, and consider me your enemy?
25Will you harass a driven leaf? Will you pursue the dry stubble?
26For you write bitter things against me, and make me inherit the iniquities of my youth.
27You also put my feet in the stocks, and mark all my paths. You set a bound to the soles of my feet,
28though I am decaying like a rotten thing, like a garment that is moth-eaten.
