1Unter den Pharisäern war ein Mann mit Namen Nikodemus, ein Ratsherr bei den Juden.
2Der kam eines Nachts zu ihm und sprach: "Wir wissen, Rabbi, daß du von Gott als Lehrer gekommen bist; denn niemand kann solche Zeichen tun, wie du sie wirkst, wenn Gott nicht mit ihm ist."
3Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Wahrlich, wahrlich sage ich dir: Wenn jemand nicht von oben geboren ist, kann er das Reich Gottes nicht schauen."
4Da sagte Nikodemus zu ihm: "Wie kann ein Mensch geboren werden, der schon alt ist? Er kann doch nicht noch einmal in den Mutterschoß zurück und wiederum geboren werden?"
5Und Jesus sprach: "Wahrlich, wahrlich sage ich dir: Wer nicht aus Wasser und Heiligem Geiste geboren ist, kann nicht in das Reich Gottes eingehen.
6Was aus dem Fleische geboren ist, ist Fleisch, was aber aus dem Geiste geboren ist, ist Geist.
7Wundere dich nicht, daß ich dir sagte: Ihr müßt von oben geboren werden.
8Der Wind weht, wo er will; du hörst sein Brausen, weißt aber nicht, woher er kommt, noch wohin er geht. Geradeso verhält es sich mit dem, der aus dem Geiste geboren ist."
9Darauf fragte Nikodemus: "Wie ist das möglich?"
10Und Jesus sprach zu ihm: "Du bist der Lehrer Israels und begreifst das nicht?
11Wahrlich, wahrlich sage ich dir: Wir reden, was wir wissen, und wir bezeugen, was wir gesehen haben; ihr aber nehmt unser Zeugnis nicht an.
12Wenn ich von irdischen Dingen zu euch rede und ihr nicht glaubt, wie werdet ihr dann glauben, wenn ich von himmlischen zu euch rede?
13Niemand ist zum Himmel aufgestiegen als der, der vom Himmel kam, der Menschensohn der im Himmel ist.
14Wie Moses in der Wüste die Schlange erhöht, hat, so muß auch der Menschensohn erhöht werden,
15damit jeder, der glaubt, nicht verlorengehe, sondern in ihm ewiges Leben habe.
16So sehr hat Gott die Welt geliebt, daß er seinen eingebornen Sohn hingab, damit, wer immer an ihn glaubt, nicht verlorengehe, vielmehr ewiges Leben habe.
17Denn Gott hat seinen Sohn nicht dazu in die Welt gesandt, damit er die Welt richte, sondern damit die Welt durch ihn gerettet werde.
18Wer an ihn glaubt, wird nicht gerichtet werden, wer aber nicht glaubt, der ist schon gerichtet, weil er an den Namen des eingebornen Sohnes Gottes nicht geglaubt hat.
19Darin besteht ja das Gericht: Das Licht ist in die Welt gekommen, die Menschen aber wollten lieber die Finsternis als das Licht; denn ihre Werke waren böse.
20Denn jeder, der Böses tut, haßt das Licht und kommt nicht an das Licht, damit seine Werke nicht ans Licht kommen.
21Doch wer recht handelt, geht zum Lichte, damit so offenkundig werde, daß seine Werke mit Gott vollbracht sind."
22Hierauf kam Jesus mit den Jüngern in die Landschaft Judäa, blieb dort mit ihnen und taufte.
23Auch Johannes taufte noch zu Änon, nahe bei Salim; denn dort gab es reichlich Wasser. Die Leute kamen hin und ließen sich taufen.
24Noch lag Johannes nicht im Gefängnis.
25Da entstand ein Streit über Reinigungen zwischen den Jüngern des Johannes und einem Judäer.
26Sie gingen zu Johannes und sagten ihm: "Rabbi! Jener Mann, der drüben überm Jordan bei dir war und für den du Zeugnis abgelegt hast, sieh, er tauft nun auch, und alles läuft ihm zu."
27Johannes sprach: "Ein Mensch kann sich nichts nehmen, was ihm nicht vom Himmel gegeben ist.
28Ihr selbst müßt mir bezeugen, daß ich gesagt habe: 'Ich bin nicht der Christus, ich bin nur vor ihm hergesandt.'
29Wer die Braut hat, ist Bräutigam; der Freund des Bräutigams indes steht da und hört ihn und freut sich herzlich ob der Stimme des Bräutigams. Diese Freude ist mir in vollem Maße zuteil geworden.
30Er muß wachsen und ich abnehmen.
31Wer von oben kommt, steht über allen; wer von der Erde ist, ist irdisch und redet irdisch. Wer vom Himmel kommt, steht über allen.
32Und er bezeugt, was er gesehen und gehört hat; jedoch sein Zeugnis nimmt ja niemand an.
33Wer aber sein Zeugnis annimmt, der bestätigt, daß Gott wahrhaftig ist.
34Denn der von Gott Gesandte redet Gottes Worte; er spendet den Geist nicht kärglich.
35Der Vater liebt den Sohn und hat alles in seine Hand gegeben.
36Wer an den Sohn glaubt, hat ewiges Leben, wer aber auf den Sohn nicht hört, wird das Leben nicht schauen; es lastet vielmehr Gottes Zorn auf ihm."

1Y HABÍA un hombre de los Fariseos que se llamaba Nicodemo, príncipe de los Judíos.
2Este vino á Jesús de noche, y díjole: Rabbí, sabemos que has venido de Dios por maestro; porque nadie puede hacer estas señales que tú haces, si no fuere Dios con él.
3Respondió Jesús, y díjole: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere otra vez, no puede ver el reino de Dios.
4Dícele Nicodemo: ¿Cómo puede el hombre nacer siendo viejo? ¿puede entrar otra vez en el vientre de su madre, y nacer?
5Respondió Jesús: De cierto, de cierto te digo, que el que no naciere de agua y del Espíritu, no puede entrar en el reino de Dios.
6Lo que es nacido de la carne, carne es; y lo que es nacido del Espíritu, espíritu es.
7No te maravilles de que te dije: Os es necesario nacer otra vez.
8El viento de donde quiere sopla, y oyes su sonido; mas ni sabes de dónde viene, ni á dónde vaya: así es todo aquel que es nacido del Espíritu.
9Respondió Nicodemo, y díjole: ¿Cómo puede esto hacerse?
10Respondió Jesús, y díjole: ¿Tú eres el maestro de Israel, y no sabes esto?
11De cierto, de cierto te digo, que lo que sabemos hablamos, y lo que hemos visto, testificamos; y no recibís nuestro testimonio.
12Si os he dicho cosas terrenas, y no creéis, ¿cómo creeréis si os dijere las celestiales?
13Y nadie subió al cielo, sino el que descendió del cielo, el Hijo del hombre, que está en el cielo.
14Y como Moisés levantó la serpiente en el desierto, así es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sea levantado;
15Para que todo aquel que en él creyere, no se pierda, sino que tenga vida eterna.
16Porque de tal manera amó Dios al mundo, que ha dado á su Hijo unigénito, para que todo aquel que en él cree, no se pierda, mas tenga vida eterna.
17Porque no envió Dios á su Hijo al mundo para que condene al mundo, mas para que el mundo sea salvo por él.
18El que en él cree, no es condenado; mas el que no cree, ya es condenado, porque no creyó en el nombre del unigénito Hijo de Dios.
19Y esta es la condenación: porque la luz vino al mundo, y los hombres amaron más las tinieblas que la luz; porque sus obras eran malas.
20Porque todo aquel que hace lo malo, aborrece la luz y no viene á la luz, porque sus obras no sean redargüidas.
21Mas el que obra verdad, viene á la luz, para que sus obras sean manifestadas que son hechas en Dios.
22Pasado esto, vino Jesús con sus discípulos á la tierra de Judea; y estaba allí con ellos, y bautizaba.
23Y bautizaba también Juan en Enón junto á Salim, porque había allí muchas aguas; y venían, y eran bautizados.
24Porque Juan no había sido aún puesto en la carcel.
25Y hubo cuestión entre los discípulos de Juan y los Judíos acerca de la purificación.
26Y vinieron á Juan, y dijéronle: Rabbí, el que estaba contigo de la otra parte del Jordán, del cual tú diste testimonio, he aquí bautiza, y todos vienen á él.
27Respondió Juan, y dijo: No puede el hombre recibir algo, si no le fuere dado del cielo.
28Vosotros mismos me sois testigos que dije: Yo no soy el Cristo, sino que soy enviado delante de él.
29El que tiene la esposa, es el esposo; mas el amigo del esposo, que está en pie y le oye, se goza grandemente de la voz del esposo; así pues, este mi gozo es cumplido.
30A él conviene crecer, mas á mí menguar.
31El que de arriba viene, sobre todos es: el que es de la tierra, terreno es, y cosas terrenas habla: el que viene del cielo, sobre todos es.
32Y lo que vió y oyó, esto testifica: y nadie recibe su testimonio.
33El que recibe su testimonio, éste signó que Dios es verdadero.
34Porque el que Dios envió, las palabras de Dios habla: porque no da Dios el Espíritu por medida.
35El Padre ama al Hijo, y todas las cosas dió en su mano.
36El que cree en el Hijo, tiene vida eterna; mas el que es incrédulo al Hijo, no verá la vida, sino que la ira de Dios está sobre él.

1There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews:
2The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.
3Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
4Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born?
5Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.
8The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
9Nicodemus answered and said unto him, How can these things be?
10Jesus answered and said unto him, Art thou a master of Israel, and knowest not these things?
11Verily, verily, I say unto thee, We speak that we do know, and testify that we have seen; and ye receive not our witness.
12If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?
13And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
19And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.
20For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
22After these things came Jesus and his disciples into the land of Judæa; and there he tarried with them, and baptized.
23And John also was baptizing in Ænon near to Salim, because there was much water there: and they came, and were baptized.
24For John was not yet cast into prison.
25Then there arose a question between some of John’s disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

1Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
2He came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do, unless God is with him.”
3Jesus answered him, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born anew, he can’t see God’s Kingdom.”
4Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”
5Jesus answered, “Most certainly I tell you, unless one is born of water and Spirit, he can’t enter into God’s Kingdom.
6That which is born of the flesh is flesh. That which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
7Don’t marvel that I said to you, ‘You must all be born anew.’
8The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”
9Nicodemus answered him, “How can these things be?”
10Jesus answered him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and don’t understand these things?
11Most certainly I tell you, we speak that which we know and testify of that which we have seen, and you don’t receive our witness.
12If I told you earthly things and you don’t believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things?
13No one has ascended into heaven but he who descended out of heaven, the Son of Man, who is in heaven.
14As Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up,
15that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only born Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
17For God didn’t send his Son into the world to judge the world, but that the world should be saved through him.
18He who believes in him is not judged. He who doesn’t believe has been judged already, because he has not believed in the name of the only born Son of God.
19This is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light, for their works were evil.
20For everyone who does evil hates the light and doesn’t come to the light, lest his works would be exposed.
21But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his works may be revealed, that they have been done in God.”
22After these things, Jesus came with his disciples into the land of Judea. He stayed there with them and baptized.

24for John was not yet thrown into prison.
25Therefore a dispute arose on the part of John’s disciples with some Jews about purification.
26They came to John and said to him, “Rabbi, he who was with you beyond the Jordan, to whom you have testified, behold, he baptizes, and everyone is coming to him.”
27John answered, “A man can receive nothing unless it has been given him from heaven.
28You yourselves testify that I said, ‘I am not the Christ,’ but, ‘I have been sent before him.’
29He who has the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who stands and hears him, rejoices greatly because of the bridegroom’s voice. Therefore my joy is made full.
30He must increase, but I must decrease.
31“He who comes from above is above all. He who is from the earth belongs to the earth and speaks of the earth. He who comes from heaven is above all.
32What he has seen and heard, of that he testifies; and no one receives his witness.
33He who has received his witness has set his seal to this, that God is true.
