Le bruit se répandit donc parmi les frères, que ce disciple ne devait pas mourir ; mais Jésus ne lui dit pas : « Il ne doit point mourir, » mais : « Si je veux qu'il demeure jusques à ce que je vienne, que t'importe ? »
Salió entonces este dicho entre los hermanos, que aquel discípulo no había de morir. Mas Jesús no le dijo, No morirá; sino: Si quiero que él quede hasta que yo venga ¿qué á ti?
Then went this saying abroad among the brethren, that that disciple should not die: yet Jesus said not unto him, He shall not die; but, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee?
This saying therefore went out among the brothers that this disciple wouldn’t die. Yet Jesus didn’t say to him that he wouldn’t die, but, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you?”
