31Era o Dia da Preparação, e o dia seguinte seria o sábado sagrado. Os líderes judaicos não queriam que os corpos permanecessem pendurados ali no dia seguinte, por isso pediram a Pilatos que mandasse quebrar as pernas dos crucificados, a fim de apressar sua morte; assim os seus corpos poderiam ser tirados das cruzes.

31Entonces los Judíos, por cuanto era la víspera de la Pascua, para que los cuerpos no quedasen en la cruz en el sábado, pues era el gran día del sábado, rogaron á Pilato que se les quebrasen las piernas, y fuesen quitados.

31The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

31Therefore the Jews, because it was the Preparation Day, so that the bodies wouldn’t remain on the cross on the Sabbath (for that Sabbath was a special one), asked of Pilate that their legs might be broken and that they might be taken away.
