Era malato un tal Lazzaro del Borgo di Betania, patria di Maria, e di Marta sorelle.

ESTABA entonces enfermo uno llamado Lázaro, de Bethania, la aldea de María y de Marta su hermana.

Now a certain man was sick, named Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.

Now a certain man was sick, Lazarus from Bethany, of the village of Mary and her sister, Martha.

(Maria era quella, che unse con unguento il Signore, e asciugogli i piedi co' suoi capelli, il di cui fratello Lazzaro era malato).

(Y María, cuyo hermano Lázaro estaba enfermo, era la que ungió al Señor con ungüento, y limpió sus pies con sus cabellos.)

(It was that Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)

It was that Mary who had anointed the Lord with ointment and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.

Mandarono dunque a dirgli le sorelle: Signore, ecco, che colui, che tu ami è malato.

Enviaron, pues, sus hermanas á él, diciendo: Señor, he aquí, el que amas está enfermo.

Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.

The sisters therefore sent to him, saying, “Lord, behold, he for whom you have great affection is sick.”

Udito questo, disse Gesù: Questa malattia non è per morte, ma per glorie di Dio, affinchè quindi sia glorificato il Figliuolo di Dio.

Y oyéndolo Jesús, dijo: Esta enfermedad no es para muerte, mas por gloria de Dios, para que el Hijo de Dios sea glorificado por ella.

When Jesus heard that, he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God might be glorified thereby.

But when Jesus heard it, he said, “This sickness is not to death, but for the glory of God, that God’s Son may be glorified by it.”

Voleva bene Gesù a Marta, e Maria sua sorella, e a Lazzaro.

Y amaba Jesús á Marta, y á su hermana, y á Lázaro.

Now Jesus loved Martha, and her sister, and Lazarus.

Sentito adunque che ebbe, come questi era malato, si fermò allora due dì nello stesso luogo.

Como oyó pues que estaba enfermo, quedóse aún dos días en aquel lugar donde estaba.

When he had heard therefore that he was sick, he abode two days still in the same place where he was.

When therefore he heard that he was sick, he stayed two days in the place where he was.

Dopo di che disse a' discepoli: Andiam di nuovo nella Giudea.

Luego, después de esto, dijo á los discípulos: Vamos á Judea otra vez.

Then after that saith he to his disciples, Let us go into Judæa again.

Then after this he said to the disciples, “Let’s go into Judea again.”

Gli dissero i discepoli: Maestro, or ora cercavano i Giudei di lapidarti, di nuovo torni in là?

Dícenle los discípulos: Rabbí, ahora procuraban los Judíos apedrearte, ¿y otra vez vas allá?

His disciples say unto him, Master, the Jews of late sought to stone thee; and goest thou thither again?

The disciples asked him, “Rabbi, the Jews were just trying to stone you. Are you going there again?”

Rispose Gesù: Non sono elleno dodici le ore del giorno? Quand'uno cammina di giorno, non inciampa, perché vede la luce di questo mondo:

Respondió Jesús: ¿No tiene el día doce horas? El que anduviere de día, no tropieza, porque ve la luz de este mundo.

Jesus answered, Are there not twelve hours in the day? If any man walk in the day, he stumbleth not, because he seeth the light of this world.

Jesus answered, “Aren’t there twelve hours of daylight? If a man walks in the day, he doesn’t stumble, because he sees the light of this world.

Quando poi uno cammina di notte, inciampa, perché non ha lume.

Mas el que anduviere de noche, tropieza, porque no hay luz en él.

But if a man walk in the night, he stumbleth, because there is no light in him.

But if a man walks in the night, he stumbles, because the light isn’t in him.”

Così parlò, e dopo di questo, disse loro: Il nostro amico Lazzaro dorme, ma vo a svegliarlo dal sonno.

Dicho esto, díceles después: Lázaro nuestro amigo duerme; mas voy á despertarle del sueño.

These things said he: and after that he saith unto them, Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go, that I may awake him out of sleep.

He said these things, and after that, he said to them, “Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep, but I am going so that I may awake him out of sleep.”

Dissero perciò i suoi discepoli: Signore, se dorme, sarà in salvo.

Dijeron entonces sus discípulos: Señor, si duerme, salvo estará.

Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.

The disciples therefore said, “Lord, if he has fallen asleep, he will recover.”

Ma Gesù aveva parlato della di lui morte: ed essi avevan creduto, che parlasse del dormire di uno, che ha sonno.

Mas esto decía Jesús de la muerte de él: y ellos pensaron que hablaba del reposar del sueño.

Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.

Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that he spoke of taking rest in sleep.

Allora però disse loro chiaramente Gesù: Lazzaro è morto.

Entonces, pues, Jesús les dijo claramente: Lázaro es muerto;

Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.

So Jesus said to them plainly then, “Lazarus is dead.

E ho piacere per ragione di voi di non essere stato là, affinchè crediate: ma andiamo a lui.

Y huélgome por vosotros, que yo no haya estado allí, para que creáis: mas vamos á él.

And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.

I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, so that you may believe. Nevertheless, let’s go to him.”

Disse adunque Tommaso, soprannominato Didimo, ai condiscepoli: Andiamo anche noi, e muoiamo con lui.

Dijo entonces Tomás, el que se dice el Dídimo, á sus condiscípulos: Vamos también nosotros, para que muramos con él.

Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.

Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s also go, that we may die with him.”

Arrivato Gesù, trovollo già da quattro giorni sepolto.

Vino pues Jesús, y halló que había ya cuatro días que estaba en el sepulcro.

Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.

(Era Betania circa quindici stadj vicina a Gerusalemme).

Y Bethania estaba cerca de Jerusalem, como quince estadios;

Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:

Now Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away.

E molti Giudei erano venuti da Marta, e Maria per consolarle riguardo; il loro fratello.

Y muchos de los Judíos habían venido á Marta y á María, á consolarlas de su hermano.

And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.

Many of the Jews had joined the women around Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.

Marta però, subito che ebbe sentito, che veniva Gesù, andogli incontro: e Maria stava sedendo in casa.

Entonces Marta, como oyó que Jesús venía, salió á encontrarle; mas María se estuvo en casa.

Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.

Then when Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went and met him, but Mary stayed in the house.

Disse adunque Marta a Gesù: Signore, se eri qui, non moriva mio fratello.

Y Marta dijo á Jesús: Señor, si hubieses estado aquí, mi hermano no fuera muerto;

Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.

Ma anche adesso so, che qualunque cosa chiederai a Dio, Dio te la concederà.

Mas también sé ahora, que todo lo que pidieres de Dios, te dará Dios.

But I know, that even now, whatsoever thou wilt ask of God, God will give it thee.

Even now I know that whatever you ask of God, God will give you.”

Dissele Gesù: Tuo fratello risorgerà.

Dícele Jesús: Resucitará tu hermano.

Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.

Jesus said to her, “Your brother will rise again.”

Risposegli Marta: So, che risorgerà nella risurrezione in quell'ultimo giorno.

Marta le dice: Yo sé que resucitará en la resurrección en el día postrero.

Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.

Martha said to him, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day.”

Dissele Gesù: Io sono la risurrezione, e la vita: chi in me crede, sebben sia morto, viverà.

Dícele Jesús: Yo soy la resurrección y la vida: el que cree en mí, aunque esté muerto, vivirá.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies.

E chiunque vive, e crede in me, non morrà in eterno. Credi tu questo?

Y todo aquel que vive y cree en mí, no morirá eternamente. ¿Crees esto?

And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

Whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”

Risposegli: Si, o Signore, io ho creduto, che tu se' il Cristo, il Figliuolo di Dio vivo, che se' venuto in questo mondo.

Dícele: Sí, Señor; yo he creído que tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo de Dios, que has venido al mundo.

She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.

She said to him, “Yes, Lord. I have come to believe that you are the Christ, God’s Son, he who comes into the world.”

E detto questo, andò, e chiamò ci nascosto Maria sua sorella, dicendole: E qui il Maestro, e ti chiama.

Y esto dicho, fuése, y llamó en secreto á María su hermana, diciendo: El Maestro está aquí y te llama.

And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.

When she had said this, she went away and called Mary, her sister, secretly, saying, “The Teacher is here and is calling you.”

Ella appena udito questo, alzossi in fretta, e andò da lui:

Ella, como lo oyó, levántase prestamente y viene á él.

As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.

When she heard this, she arose quickly and went to him.

Imperocché non era per anco Gesù entrato nel borgo: ma era tuttavia in quel luogo, dove Marta era andata ad incontrarlo.

(Que aun no había llegado Jesús á la aldea, mas estaba en aquel lugar donde Marta le había encontrado.)

Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.

Now Jesus had not yet come into the village, but was in the place where Martha met him.

I Giudei perciò, che erano in casa con essa, e la racconsolavano, veduto avendo Maria alzarsi in fretta, e uscir fuori, la seguitarono, dicendo: Ella va al sepolcro per ivi piangere.

Entonces los Judíos que estaban en casa con ella, y la consolaban, como vieron que María se había levantado prestamente, y había salido, siguiéronla, diciendo: Va al sepulcro á llorar allí.

The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

Then the Jews who were with her in the house and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

Maria però, arrivata che fu, dove era Gesù, e vedutolo, gittossi a' suoi piedi, e disselli: Signore, se eri qui, non moriva mio fratello.

Mas María, como vino donde estaba Jesús, viéndole, derribóse á sus pies, diciéndole: Señor, si hubieras estado aquí, no fuera muerto mi hermano.

Then when Mary was come where Jesus was, and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying unto him, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

Therefore when Mary came to where Jesus was and saw him, she fell down at his feet, saying to him, “Lord, if you would have been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.”

Gesù allora vedendo lei piagnente, e piagnenti i Giudei, che eran venuti con essa, fremè interiormente, e turbò se stesso,

Jesús entonces, como la vió llorando, y á los Judíos que habían venido juntamente con ella llorando, se conmovió en espíritu, y turbóse,

When Jesus therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, he groaned in the spirit, and was troubled,

E disse: Dove l'avete messo? Gli risposero: Signore, vieni, e vedi.

Y dijo: ¿Dónde le pusisteis? Dícenle: Señor, ven, y ve.

And said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto him, Lord, come and see.

and said, “Where have you laid him?” They told him, “Lord, come and see.”

E a Gesù venner le lagrime.

Y lloró Jesús.

Jesus wept.

Disser perciò i Giudei: Vedete, com'ei lo amava.

Dijeron entonces los Judíos: Mirad cómo le amaba.

Then said the Jews, Behold how he loved him!

The Jews therefore said, “See how much affection he had for him!”

Ma taluni di essi dissero: E non poteva costui, che apri gli occhi al cieco nato, fare ancora, che questi non morisse?

Y algunos de ellos dijeron: ¿No podía éste que abrió los ojos al ciego, hacer que éste no muriera?

And some of them said, Could not this man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man should not have died?

Some of them said, “Couldn’t this man, who opened the eyes of him who was blind, have also kept this man from dying?”

Ma Gesù di nuovo fremendo interiormente, arrivò al sepolcro, che era una caverna, alla quale era stata soprapposta una lapida.

Y Jesús, conmoviéndose otra vez en sí mismo, vino al sepulcro. Era una cueva, la cual tenía una piedra encima.

Jesus therefore again groaning in himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it.

Disse Gesù: Togliete via la lapida. Dissegli Marta, sorella del defunto: Signore, ci puzza già, perché è di quattro giorni.

Dice Jesús: Quitad la piedra. Marta, la hermana del que se había muerto, le dice: Señor, hiede ya, que es de cuatro días.

Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha, the sister of him who was dead, said to him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, for he has been dead four days.”

Risposele Gesù: Non ti ho io detto, che se crederai, vedrai la gloria di Dio?

Jesús le dice: ¿No te he dicho que, si creyeres, verás la gloria de Dios?

Jesus saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of God?

Jesus said to her, “Didn’t I tell you that if you believed, you would see God’s glory?”

Levaron dunque la pietra: e Gesù alzò in alto gli occhi, e disse: Padre, rendo a te grazie, perché mi hai esaudito.

Entonces quitaron la piedra de donde el muerto había sido puesto. Y Jesús, alzando los ojos arriba, dijo: Padre, gracias te doy que me has oído.

Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me.

So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

Io però sapeva, che sempre mi esaudisci, ma l'ho detto per causa del popolo, che sta intorno: affinchè credano, che tu mi hai mandato.

Que yo sabía que siempre me oyes; mas por causa de la compañía que está alrededor, lo dije, para que crean que tú me has enviado.

And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.

I know that you always listen to me, but because of the multitude standing around I said this, that they may believe that you sent me.”

E detto questo, con voce sonora gridò: Lazzaro, vien fuora.

Y habiendo dicho estas cosas, clamó á gran voz: Lázaro, ven fuera.

And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.

When he had said this, he cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”

E usci subito fuora il morto, legati con fasce i piedi, e le mani, e coperto il volto con un sudario. E Gesù disse loro: Scioglietelo, e lasciatelo andare.

Y el que había estado muerto, salió, atadas las manos y los pies con vendas; y su rostro estaba envuelto en un sudario. Díceles Jesús: Desatadle, y dejadle ir.

And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

He who was dead came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Free him, and let him go.”

Molti perciò di que' Giudei, che erano accorsi da Maria, e da Marta, e avevano veduto quello, che Gesù fatto aveva, credettero in lui.

Entonces muchos de los Judíos que habían venido á María, y habían visto lo que había hecho Jesús, creyeron en él.

Then many of the Jews which came to Mary, and had seen the things which Jesus did, believed on him.

Therefore many of the Jews who came to Mary and saw what Jesus did believed in him.

Ma alcuni di essi andarono dai Farisei, e gli raccontarono quel, che aveva fatto Gesù.

Mas algunos de ellos fueron á los Fariseos, y dijéronles lo que Jesús había hecho.

But some of them went their ways to the Pharisees, and told them what things Jesus had done.

But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them the things which Jesus had done.

Radunarono perciò i Pontefici, e i Farisei il consiglio, e dicevano: Che facciam noi? quest'uomo fa molti miracoli.

Entonces los pontífices y los Fariseos juntaron concilio, y decían: ¿Qué hacemos? porque este hombre hace muchas señales.

Then gathered the chief priests and the Pharisees a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many miracles.

The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, “What are we doing? For this man does many signs.

Se lo lasciam fare così, tutti crederanno in lui: e verranno i Romani, e stermineranno il nostre paese, e la nazione.

Si le dejamos así, todos creerán en él: y vendrán los Romanos, y quitarán nuestro lugar y la nación.

If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans shall come and take away both our place and nation.

If we leave him alone like this, everyone will believe in him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”

Ma uno di essi, per nome Caifa, che era in quell'anno Pontefice, disse loro: Voi non sapete nulla,

Y Caifás, uno de ellos, sumo pontífice de aquel año, les dijo: Vosotros no sabéis nada;

And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,

But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, “You know nothing at all,

Né riflettete, che torna conto a noi, che un uomo muoia pel popolo, e la nazione tutta non perisca.

Ni pensáis que nos conviene que un hombre muera por el pueblo, y no que toda la nación se pierda.

Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.

nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation not perish.”

E questo non lo disse egli di suo capo: ma essendo Pontefice di quell'anno profetò, che Gesù era per morire per la nazione.

Mas esto no lo dijo de sí mismo; sino que, como era el sumo pontífice de aquel año, profetizó que Jesús había de morir por la nación:

And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;

Now he didn’t say this of himself, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus would die for the nation,

E non solo per la nazione, ma ancora per raunare insieme i figliuoli di Dio, che eran dispersi.

Y no solamente por aquella nación, mas también para que juntase en uno los hijos de Dios que estaban derramados.

And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad.

Quindi è, che da quel giorno pensarono a dargli morte.

Así que, desde aquel día consultaban juntos de matarle.

Then from that day forth they took counsel together for to put him to death.

So from that day forward they took counsel that they might put him to death.

Gesù adunque non più conversava in pubblico tra' Giudei, ma andò in una regione vicina al deserto, in una città chiamata Efrem, e quivi si stava co' suoi discepoli.

Por tanto, Jesús ya no andaba manifiestamente entre los Judíos; mas fuése de allí á la tierra que está junto al desierto, á una ciudad que se llama Ephraim: y estábase allí con sus discípulos.

Jesus therefore walked no more openly among the Jews; but went thence unto a country near to the wilderness, into a city called Ephraim, and there continued with his disciples.

Ed era vicina la Pasqua de' Giudei, e molti di quel paese andarono a Gerusalemme prima della Pasqua per parificarsi.

Y la Pascua de los Judíos estaba cerca: y muchos subieron de aquella tierra á Jerusalem antes de la Pascua, para purificarse;

And the Jews’ passover was nigh at hand: and many went out of the country up to Jerusalem before the passover, to purify themselves.

Now the Passover of the Jews was at hand. Many went up from the country to Jerusalem before the Passover, to purify themselves.

Cercavano pertanto di Gesù, e dicevano tra loro, stando nel Tempio: Che ve ne pare del non esser lui venuto alla festa? E i Pontefici, e i Farisei avevano mandato un ordine, che chi sapesse, dove egli si fosse, ne desse avviso, affine di averlo nelle mani. Accolto da Marta, e da Lazzaro, è unto da Maria con unguento, e Giuda ladro ne mormora. I Principi de' sacerdoti pensano di uccidere anche Lazzaro. Gesù sopra un asinello entra con gloria in Gerusalemme: e bramando alcuni Gentili di vederlo, dice essere imminente l'ora della sua glorificazione; ma che il granello del frumento dee prima morire. Voce del Padre, che vuol glorificare il tuo nome. Il Principe di questo mondo sarà cacciato fuora. Dell'accecamento de' Giudei predetto da Isaia: in Cristo è onorato, o disprezzato il Padre.

Y buscaban á Jesús, y hablaban los unos con los otros estando en el templo: ¿Qué os parece, que no vendrá á la fiesta?

Then sought they for Jesus, and spake among themselves, as they stood in the temple, What think ye, that he will not come to the feast?

Then they sought for Jesus and spoke with one another as they stood in the temple, “What do you think—that he isn’t coming to the feast at all?”

Y los pontífices y los Fariseos habían dado mandamiento, que si alguno supiese dónde estuviera, lo manifestase, para que le prendiesen.

Now both the chief priests and the Pharisees had given a commandment, that, if any man knew where he were, he should shew it, that they might take him.

Now the chief priests and the Pharisees had commanded that if anyone knew where he was, he should report it, that they might seize him.
