1Ah ! si ma tête était remplie d'eau, et si mes yeux étaient une fontaine de larmes, pour que je puisse pleurer jour et nuit sur les morts de la fille de mon peuple !
2Ah ! si j'avais dans le désert un abri pour les voyageurs, je quitterais mon peuple et je m'éloignerais d'eux ! Car ils sont tous des adultères, une assemblée de traîtres.
3« Ils bandent leur langue comme un arc, pour lancer le mensonge. Ils sont devenus puissants dans le pays, mais non pour la vérité ; car ils vont de mal en mal, et ils ne me connaissent pas », dit le SEIGNEUR.
4« Que chacun se méfie de son prochain, et ne faites confiance à aucun frère ; car tout frère cherche à supplanter, et tout prochain se répand en calomnies.
5Chacun trompe son ami, et ils ne disent pas la vérité. Ils ont habitué leur langue à mentir. Ils s'épuisent à commettre l'iniquité.
6Ta demeure est au milieu de la tromperie. Par tromperie, ils refusent de me connaître », dit le SEIGNEUR.
7C'est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR des Armées dit : « Voici, je vais les fondre et les mettre à l'épreuve ; car comment agirais-je autrement envers la fille de mon peuple ?
8Leur langue est une flèche meurtrière. Elle ne prononce que la tromperie. De la bouche, on parle de paix à son prochain, mais au fond du cœur, on lui tend un piège.
9Ne les punirais-je pas pour ces choses ? » dit le SEIGNEUR. « Mon âme ne se vengerait-elle pas d'une telle nation ?
10Je pleurerai et je me lamenterai sur les montagnes, et je prononcerai une complainte sur les pâturages du désert, parce qu'ils sont brûlés, au point que personne n'y passe ; On n'y entend plus la voix des troupeaux. Les oiseaux du ciel et les bêtes ont fui. Ils ont disparu.
11« Je ferai de Jérusalem un tas de ruines, un repaire de chacals. Je ferai des villes de Juda une désolation, sans aucun habitant. »
12Quel est l'homme assez sage pour comprendre cela ? À qui la bouche du SEIGNEUR a-t-elle parlé, pour qu'il l'annonce ? Pourquoi le pays a-t-il péri, brûlé comme un désert, au point que personne n'y passe ?
13Le SEIGNEUR dit : « C'est parce qu'ils ont abandonné ma loi que j'avais mise devant eux, et qu'ils n'ont pas écouté ma voix ni marché dans mes voies,
14mais qu'ils ont marché selon l'entêtement de leur propre cœur et suivi les Baals, comme leurs pères le leur ont enseigné. »
15C'est pourquoi le SEIGNEUR des Armées, le Dieu d'Israël, dit : « Voici, je vais nourrir ce peuple d'absinthe et je lui donnerai à boire de l'eau empoisonnée.
16Je les disperserai parmi des nations que ni eux ni leurs pères n'ont connues. J'enverrai l'épée à leur poursuite, jusqu'à ce que je les aie consumés. »
17Le SEIGNEUR des Armées dit : « Considérez la situation, et appelez les pleureuses, pour qu'elles viennent. Envoyez chercher les femmes les plus habiles, pour qu'elles viennent.
18Qu'elles se hâtent et qu'elles entonnent une lamentation sur nous, pour que nos yeux ruissellent de larmes et que l'eau jaillisse de nos paupières.
19Car une voix de lamentation se fait entendre de Sion : « Comme nous sommes ruinés ! Nous sommes couverts de honte parce que nous avons abandonné le pays, parce qu'ils ont renversé nos demeures. » »
20Femmes, écoutez donc la parole du SEIGNEUR. Que votre oreille reçoive la parole de sa bouche. Enseignez des lamentations à vos filles. Que chacune enseigne une complainte à sa compagne.
21Car la mort est montée par nos fenêtres. Elle est entrée dans nos palais pour retrancher les enfants de la rue, et les jeunes gens des places publiques.
22Parle : « Le SEIGNEUR dit : « Les cadavres des hommes tomberont comme du fumier sur la surface des champs, et comme une gerbe derrière le moissonneur. Personne ne les ramassera. » »
23Le SEIGNEUR dit : « Que le sage ne se glorifie pas de sa sagesse. Que l'homme fort ne se glorifie pas de sa force. Que le riche ne se glorifie pas de sa richesse.
24Mais que celui qui se glorifie se glorifie de ceci : d'avoir de l'intelligence et de me connaître, de savoir que je suis le SEIGNEUR qui exerce l'amour fidèle, le droit et la justice sur la terre, car c'est à ces choses que je prends plaisir », dit le SEIGNEUR.
25« Voici, les jours viennent », dit le SEIGNEUR, « où je punirai tous ceux qui ne sont circoncis que dans leur chair :
26l'Égypte, Juda, Édom, les enfants d'Ammon, Moab, et tous ceux qui se rasent les coins de la chevelure, qui habitent dans le désert ; car toutes les nations sont incirconcises, et toute la maison d'Israël a le cœur incirconcis. »

1¡OH si mi cabeza se tornase aguas, y mis ojos fuentes de aguas, para que llore día y noche los muertos de la hija de mi pueblo!
2¡Oh quién me diese en el desierto un mesón de caminantes, para que dejase mi pueblo, y de ellos me apartase! Porque todos ellos son adúlteros, congregación de prevaricadores.
3E hicieron que su lengua, como su arco, tirase mentira; y no se fortalecieron por verdad en la tierra: porque de mal en mal procedieron, y me han desconocido, dice Jehová.
4Guárdese cada uno de su compañero, ni en ningún hermano tenga confianza: porque todo hermano engaña con falacia, y todo compañero anda con falsedades.
5Y cada uno engaña á su compañero, y no hablan verdad: enseñaron su lengua á hablar mentira, se ocupan de hacer perversamente.
6Tu morada es en medio de engaño; de muy engañadores no quisieron conocerme, dice Jehová.
7Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: He aquí que yo los fundiré, y los ensayaré; porque ¿cómo he de hacer por la hija de mi pueblo?
8Saeta afilada es la lengua de ellos; engaño habla; con su boca habla paz con su amigo, y dentro de sí pone sus asechanzas.
9¿No los tengo de visitar sobre estas cosas? dice Jehová. ¿De tal gente no se vengará mi alma?
10Sobre los montes levantaré lloro y lamentación, y llanto sobre las moradas del desierto; porque desolados fueron hasta no quedar quien pase, ni oyeron bramido de ganado: desde las aves del cielo y hasta las bestias de la tierra se trasportaron, y se fueron.
11Y pondré á Jerusalem en montones, por morada de culebras; y pondré las ciudades de Judá en asolamiento, que no quede morador.
12¿Quién es varón sabio que entienda esto? ¿y á quién habló la boca de Jehová, para que pueda declararlo? ¿Por qué causa la tierra ha perecido, ha sido asolada como desierto, que no hay quien pase?
13Y dijo Jehová: Porque dejaron mi ley, la cual dí delante de ellos, y no obedecieron á mi voz, ni caminaron conforme á ella;
14Antes se fueron tras la imaginación de su corazón, y en pos de los Baales que les enseñaron sus padres:
15Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: He aquí que á este pueblo yo les daré á comer ajenjos, y les daré á beber aguas de hiel.
16Y los esparciré entre gentes que no conocieron ellos ni sus padres; y enviaré espada en pos de ellos, hasta que yo los acabe.
17Así dice Jehová de los ejércitos: Considerad, y llamad plañideras que vengan; y enviad por las sabias que vengan:
18Y dense prisa, y levanten llanto sobre nosotros, y córranse nuestros ojos en lágrimas, y nuestros párpados en aguas se destilen.
19Porque voz de endecha fué oída de Sión: ¡Cómo hemos sido destruídos! en gran manera hemos sido confundidos. ¿Por qué dejamos la tierra? ¿por qué nos han echado de sí nuestras moradas?
20Oid pues, oh mujeres, palabra de Jehová, y vuestro oído reciba la palabra de su boca; y enseñad endechas á vuestras hijas, y cada una á su amiga, lamentación.
21Porque la muerte ha subido por nuestras ventanas, ha entrado en nuestros palacios; para talar los niños de las calles, los mancebos de las plazas.
22Habla: Así ha dicho Jehová: Los cuerpos de los hombres muertos caerán como estiércol sobre la haz del campo, y como manojo tras el segador, que no hay quien lo recoja.
23Así dijo Jehová: No se alabe el sabio en su sabiduría, ni en su valentía se alabe el valiente, ni el rico se alabe en sus riquezas.
24Mas alábese en esto el que se hubiere de alabar: en entenderme y conocerme, que yo soy Jehová, que hago misericordia, juicio, y justicia en la tierra: porque estas cosas quiero, dice Jehová.
25He aquí que vienen días, dice Jehová, y visitaré sobre todo circuncidado, y sobre todo incircunciso:
26A Egipto, y á Judá, y á Edom, y á los hijos de Ammón y de Moab, y á todos los arrinconados en el postrer rincón, que moran en el desierto; porque todas las gentes tienen prepucio, y toda la casa de Israel tiene prepucio en el corazón.

1Oh that my head were waters, and mine eyes a fountain of tears, that I might weep day and night for the slain of the daughter of my people!
2Oh that I had in the wilderness a lodging place of wayfaring men; that I might leave my people, and go from them! for they be all adulterers, an assembly of treacherous men.
3And they bend their tongues like their bow for lies: but they are not valiant for the truth upon the earth; for they proceed from evil to evil, and they know not me, saith the LORD.
4Take ye heed every one of his neighbour, and trust ye not in any brother: for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbour will walk with slanders.
5And they will deceive every one his neighbour, and will not speak the truth: they have taught their tongue to speak lies, and weary themselves to commit iniquity.
6Thine habitation is in the midst of deceit; through deceit they refuse to know me, saith the LORD.
7Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, Behold, I will melt them, and try them; for how shall I do for the daughter of my people?
8Their tongue is as an arrow shot out; it speaketh deceit: one speaketh peaceably to his neighbour with his mouth, but in heart he layeth his wait.
9Shall I not visit them for these things? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
10For the mountains will I take up a weeping and wailing, and for the habitations of the wilderness a lamentation, because they are burned up, so that none can pass through them; neither can men hear the voice of the cattle; both the fowl of the heavens and the beast are fled; they are gone.
11And I will make Jerusalem heaps, and a den of dragons; and I will make the cities of Judah desolate, without an inhabitant.
12Who is the wise man, that may understand this? and who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD hath spoken, that he may declare it, for what the land perisheth and is burned up like a wilderness, that none passeth through?
13And the LORD saith, Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice, neither walked therein;
14But have walked after the imagination of their own heart, and after Baalim, which their fathers taught them:
15Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood, and give them water of gall to drink.
16I will scatter them also among the heathen, whom neither they nor their fathers have known: and I will send a sword after them, till I have consumed them.
17Thus saith the LORD of hosts, Consider ye, and call for the mourning women, that they may come; and send for cunning women, that they may come:
18And let them make haste, and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears, and our eyelids gush out with waters.
19For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, How are we spoiled! we are greatly confounded, because we have forsaken the land, because our dwellings have cast us out.
20Yet hear the word of the LORD, O ye women, and let your ear receive the word of his mouth, and teach your daughters wailing, and every one her neighbour lamentation.
21For death is come up into our windows, and is entered into our palaces, to cut off the children from without, and the young men from the streets.
22Speak, Thus saith the LORD, Even the carcases of men shall fall as dung upon the open field, and as the handful after the harvestman, and none shall gather them.
23Thus saith the LORD, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the LORD which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.
25Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will punish all them which are circumcised with the uncircumcised;
26Egypt, and Judah, and Edom, and the children of Ammon, and Moab, and all that are in the utmost corners, that dwell in the wilderness: for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in the heart.

4“Everyone beware of his neighbor, and don’t trust in any brother; for every brother will utterly supplant, and every neighbor will go around like a slanderer.
5Friends deceive each other, and will not speak the truth. They have taught their tongue to speak lies. They weary themselves committing iniquity.
6Your habitation is in the middle of deceit. Through deceit, they refuse to know me,” says the LORD.
7Therefore the LORD of Armies says, “Behold, I will melt them and test them; for how should I deal with the daughter of my people?
8Their tongue is a deadly arrow. It speaks deceit. One speaks peaceably to his neighbor with his mouth, but in his heart, he waits to ambush him.
9Shouldn’t I punish them for these things?” says the LORD. “Shouldn’t my soul be avenged on a nation such as this?
10I will weep and wail for the mountains, and lament for the pastures of the wilderness, because they are burned up, so that no one passes through; Men can’t hear the voice of the livestock. Both the birds of the sky and the animals have fled. They are gone.
11“I will make Jerusalem heaps, a dwelling place of jackals. I will make the cities of Judah a desolation, without inhabitant.”
12Who is wise enough to understand this? Who is he to whom the mouth of the LORD has spoken, that he may declare it? Why has the land perished and burned up like a wilderness, so that no one passes through?
13The LORD says, “Because they have forsaken my law which I set before them, and have not obeyed my voice or walked in my ways,
14but have walked after the stubbornness of their own heart and after the Baals, which their fathers taught them.”
15Therefore the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says, “Behold, I will feed them, even this people, with wormwood and give them poisoned water to drink.
16I will scatter them also among the nations, whom neither they nor their fathers have known. I will send the sword after them, until I have consumed them.”
17The LORD of Armies says, “Consider, and call for the mourning women, that they may come. Send for the skillful women, that they may come.
18Let them make haste and take up a wailing for us, that our eyes may run down with tears and our eyelids gush out with waters.
19For a voice of wailing is heard out of Zion, ‘How we are ruined! We are greatly confounded because we have forsaken the land, because they have cast down our dwellings.’”
20Yet hear the LORD’s word, you women. Let your ear receive the word of his mouth. Teach your daughters wailing. Everyone teach her neighbor a lamentation.
