1Dies ist das Wort des HERRN, welches an den Propheten Jeremia erging bezüglich der Philister, ehe der Pharao Gaza schlug:
2So spricht der HERR: Siehe, es steigen Wasser vom Norden empor, die werden zu einem überschwemmenden Strom und überfluten das Land und was darinnen ist, die Stadt und die darinnen wohnen, daß die Leute schreien und alle Bewohner des Landes heulen.
3Vor dem Getöse der stampfenden Rosse seiner Starken, vor dem Rasseln seiner Wagen, vor dem Getöse seiner Räder sehen sich die Väter nicht einmal nach ihren Kindern um, so schlaff sind ihre Hände;
4denn der Tag ist gekommen, die Philister zu vertilgen und von Tyrus und Zidon alle noch übrigen Helfer auszurotten; denn der HERR will die Philister vertilgen, den Überrest der Insel Kaphtor.
5Kahlheit kommt über Gaza! Askalon geht unter, die letzte Stadt ihrer Tiefebene! Wie lange willst du dir Trauerzeichen einritzen?
6O du Schwert des HERRN, wann willst du endlich ruhen? Kehre zurück in deine Scheide, raste und halte dich still!
7Wie sollte es aber ruhen? Hat doch der HERR es beordert, gegen Askalon und gegen das Meeresufer, dorthin hat er es bestellt.

1PALABRA de Jehová que fué á Jeremías profeta acerca de los Palestinos, antes que Faraón hiriese á Gaza.
2Así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que suben aguas del aquilón, y tornaránse en torrente, é inundarán la tierra y su plenitud, ciudades y moradores de ellas; y los hombres clamarán, y aullará todo morador de la tierra.
3Por el sonido de las uñas de sus fuertes, por el alboroto de sus carros, por el estruendo de sus ruedas, los padres no miraron á los hijos por la flaqueza de las manos;
4A causa del día que viene para destrucción de todos los Palestinos, para talar á Tiro, y á Sidón, á todo ayudador que quedó vivo: porque Jehová destruirá á los Palestinos, al resto de la isla de Caphtor.
5Sobre Gaza vino mesadura, Ascalón fué cortada, y el resto de su valle: ¿hasta cuándo te arañarás?
6Oh espada de Jehová, ¿hasta cuándo no reposarás? Métete en tu vaina, reposa y sosiega.
7¿Cómo reposarás? pues que Jehová lo ha enviado contra Ascalón, y á la ribera de la mar, allí lo puso.

1The word of the LORD that came to Jeremiah the prophet against the Philistines, before that Pharaoh smote Gaza.
2Thus saith the LORD; Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and shall be an overflowing flood, and shall overflow the land, and all that is therein; the city, and them that dwell therein: then the men shall cry, and all the inhabitants of the land shall howl.
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong horses, at the rushing of his chariots, and at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers shall not look back to their children for feebleness of hands;
4Because of the day that cometh to spoil all the Philistines, and to cut off from Tyrus and Zidon every helper that remaineth: for the LORD will spoil the Philistines, the remnant of the country of Caphtor.
5Baldness is come upon Gaza; Ashkelon is cut off with the remnant of their valley: how long wilt thou cut thyself?
6O thou sword of the LORD, how long will it be ere thou be quiet? put up thyself into thy scabbard, rest, and be still.
7How can it be quiet, seeing the LORD hath given it a charge against Ashkelon, and against the sea shore? there hath he appointed it.

2The LORD says: “Behold, waters rise up out of the north, and will become an overflowing stream, and will overflow the land and all that is therein, the city and those who dwell therein. The men will cry, and all the inhabitants of the land will wail.
3At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones, at the rushing of his chariots, at the rumbling of his wheels, the fathers don’t look back for their children because their hands are so feeble,
4because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines, to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains; for the LORD will destroy the Philistines, the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.
5Baldness has come on Gaza; Ashkelon is brought to nothing. You remnant of their valley, how long will you cut yourself?
6“‘You sword of the LORD, how long will it be before you are quiet? Put yourself back into your scabbard; rest, and be still.’
7“How can you be quiet, since the LORD has given you a command? Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore, there he has appointed it.”
