Jeremías 43
Brenton's English Septuagint
1IN THE FOURTH YEAR OF JOAKIM son of Josias king of Juda, the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
2Take thee a Or, paper, or, parchment roll of a book, and write upon it all the words which I spoke to thee against Jerusalem, and against Juda, and against all the nations, from the day when I spoke to thee, from the days of Josias king of Juda, even to this day.
3Perhaps the house of Juda will hear all the evils which I purpose to do to them; that they may turn from their evil way; and so I will be merciful to their iniquities and their sins.
4So Jeremias called Baruch the son of Nerias: and he wrote from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the Lord, which he had spoken to him, on a roll of a book.
5And Jeremias commanded Baruch, saying, I am in prison; I cannot enter into the house of the Lord:
6so thou shalt read in this roll in the ears of the people in the house of the Lord, on the fast day; and in the ears of all Juda that come out of their cities, thou shalt read to them.
7Peradventure their supplication will come before the Lord, and they will turn from their evil way: for great is the wrath and the anger of the Lord, which he has pronounced against this people.
8And Baruch did according to all that Jeremias commanded him—reading in the book the words of the Lord in the Lord’s house.
9And it came to pass in the Alex. fifth eighth year of king Joakim, in the ninth month, all the people in Jerusalem, and the house of Juda, proclaimed a fast before the Lord.
10And Baruch read in the book the words of Jeremias in the house of the Lord, in the house of Gamarias son of Saphan the scribe, in the upper court, in the entrance of the new gate of the house of the Lord, and in the ears of all the people.
11And Michaeas the son of Gamarias the son of Saphan heard all the words of the Lord, out of the book.
12And he went down to the king’s house, into the house of the scribe: and, behold, there were sitting there all the princes, Elisama the scribe, and Dalaeas the son of Selemias, and Jonathan the son of Acchobor, and Gamarias the son of Saphan, and Sedekias the son of Ananias, and all the princes.
13And Michaeas reported to them all the words which he had heard Baruch reading in the ears of the people.
14And all the princes sent to Baruch son of Nerias Judin the son of Nathanias, the son of Selemias, the son of Chusi, saying, Take in thine hand the roll in which thou readest in the ears of the people, and come. So Baruch took the roll, and went down to them.
15And they said to him, Read it again in our ears. And Baruch read it.
16And it came to pass, when they had heard all the words, that they took counsel each with his neighbour, and said, Let us by all means tell the king all these words.
17And they asked Baruch, saying, Where didst thou write all these words?
18And Baruch said, Jeremias told me from his own mouth all these words, and I wrote them in a book.
19And they said to Baruch, Go, and hide, thou and Jeremias; let no man know where ye are.
20And they went in to the king into the court, and gave the roll to one to keep in the house of Elisama; and they told the king all these words.
21And the king sent Judin to fetch the roll: and he took it out of the house of Elisama: and Judin read in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who stood round the king.
22Now the king was sitting in the winter house: and there was a fire on the hearth before him.
23And it came to pass when Judin Gr. was reading had read three or four leaves, he cut them off with Gr. a scribe’s razor, or, scraper a penknife, and cast them into the fire that was on the hearth, until the whole roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth.
24And the king and his servants that heard all these words sought not the Lord, and rent not their garments.
25But Elnathan and Godolias Alex. +and Gamarias suggested to the king that Alex. that he should not burn the roll he should burn the roll.
26And the king commanded Jeremeel the king’s son, and Saraeas the son of Esriel, to take Baruch and Jeremias: but they were hidden.
27Then the word of the Lord came to Jeremias, after the king had burnt the roll, even all the words which Baruch wrote from the mouth of Jeremias, saying,
28Again take thou another roll, and write all the words that were on the roll, sc. which words which king Joakim has burnt.
29And thou shalt say, Thus saith the Lord; Thou hast burnt this roll, saying, Why hast thou written therein, saying, The king of Babylon shall certainly come in, and destroy this land, Alex. +and shall destroy man, etc. and man and cattle shall fail from off it?
30Therefore thus saith the Lord concerning Joakim king of Juda; He shall not have a man to sit on the throne of David: and his carcass shall be cast forth in the heat by day, and in the frost by night.
31And I will visit him, and his family, and his servants: and I will bring upon him, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and upon the land of Juda, all the evils which I spoke of to them; and they hearkened not.
32And Baruch took another roll, and wrote upon it from the mouth of Jeremias all the words of the book Gr. which words which Joakim had burnt: and there were yet more words added to it like the former.

4No obedeció pues Johanán hijo de Carea, y todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra, y todo el pueblo, á la voz de Jehová para quedarse en tierra de Judá;
5Antes tomó Johanán hijo de Carea, y todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra, á todo el resto de Judá, que de todas las gentes adonde habían sido echados habían vuelto para morar en tierra de Judá:
6A hombres, y mujeres, y niños, y á las hijas del rey, y á toda alma que había dejado Nabuzaradán capitán de la guardia con Gedalías hijo de Ahicam hijo de Saphán, y á Jeremías profeta, y á Baruch hijo de Nerías;
7Y entraron en tierra de Egipto; porque no obedecieron á la voz de Jehová: y llegaron hasta Taphnes.
8Y fué palabra de Jehová á Jeremías en Taphnes, diciendo:
9Toma con tu mano piedras grandes, y cúbrelas de barro en un horno de ladrillos que está á la puerta de la casa de Faraón en Taphnes, á vista de hombres Judíos;

King James Version
1And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
2Then spake Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou speakest falsely: the LORD our God hath not sent thee to say, Go not into Egypt to sojourn there:
3But Baruch the son of Neriah setteth thee on against us, for to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death, and carry us away captives into Babylon.
4So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, obeyed not the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.
5But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, took all the remnant of Judah, that were returned from all nations, whither they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;
6Even men, and women, and children, and the king’s daughters, and every person that Nebuzar-adan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah.
7So they came into the land of Egypt: for they obeyed not the voice of the LORD: thus came they even to Tahpanhes.
8Then came the word of the LORD unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,
9Take great stones in thine hand, and hide them in the clay in the brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;
10And say unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid; and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.
11And when he cometh, he shall smite the land of Egypt, and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.
12And I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them, and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd putteth on his garment; and he shall go forth from thence in peace.
13He shall break also the images of Beth-shemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.

1When Jeremiah had finished speaking to all the people all the words of the LORD their God, with which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,
2then Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men spoke, saying to Jeremiah, “You speak falsely. The LORD our God has not sent you to say, ‘You shall not go into Egypt to live there;’
3but Baruch the son of Neriah has turned you against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they may put us to death or carry us away captive to Babylon.”
4So Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces, and all the people, didn’t obey the LORD’s voice, to dwell in the land of Judah.
5But Johanan the son of Kareah and all the captains of the forces took all the remnant of Judah, who had returned from all the nations where they had been driven, to live in the land of Judah—

7They came into the land of Egypt, for they didn’t obey the LORD’s voice; and they came to Tahpanhes.
8Then the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,
9“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah.
10Tell them, the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hidden; and he will spread his royal pavilion over them.
11He will come, and will strike the land of Egypt; such as are for death will be put to death, and such as are for captivity to captivity, and such as are for the sword to the sword.
12I will kindle a fire in the houses of the gods of Egypt. He will burn them, and carry them away captive. He will array himself with the land of Egypt, as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he will go out from there in peace.
13He will also break the pillars of Beth Shemesh that is in the land of Egypt; and he will burn the houses of the gods of Egypt with fire.’”
