Jeremías 42

1Tous les chefs de troupes, ainsi que Johanan, fils de Karèah, et Yaazania, fils de Hochaïa, et tout le peuple, grands et petits, s'avancèrent,
2et dirent au prophète Jérémie: "Agrée, de grâce, notre supplication et implore l'Eternel, ton Dieu, pour nous, pour cette poignée des nôtres qui existent encore; car de nombreux que nous étions, nous sommes réduits à peu de chose, comme tes yeux s'en rendent compte en nous voyant.
3Que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, nous indique le chemin que nous avons à suivre et la conduite que nous devons tenir!"
4Le prophète Jérémie leur répondit: "Je vous entends; je vais implorer l'Eternel, votre Dieu, suivant votre demande, et toutes les réponses que l'Eternel m'adressera pour vous, je vous les communiquerai, sans rien vous cacher."
5Et eux de répliquer à Jérémie: "Que l'Eternel se lève contre nous en témoin sincère et véridique, si nous manquons d'agir en tout conformément à ce que l'Eternel, ton Dieu, te donnera mission de nous dire!
6Que! a chose nous plaise ou nous déplaise, nous obéirons à la voix de l'Eternel, notre Dieu, auprès de qui nous te déléguons, avec la certitude d'être heureux par notre docilité aux ordres de l'Eternel, notre Dieu."
7Au bout de dix jours, la parole de l'Eternel fut adressée à Jérémie.
8Aussitôt il manda Johanan, fils de Karèah, et tous les chefs de troupes, ses compagnons, ainsi que le peuple tout entier, grands et petits,
9et leur dit: "Voici ce qu'a déclaré l'Eternel, Dieu d'Israël, auprès de qui vous m'avez délégué pour lui exposer vos sollicitations.
10Si vous continuez à demeurer dans ce pays, je vous y édifierai et ne vous détruirai pas, je vous y implanterai et ne vous en déracinerai plus; car j'ai regret au mal que je vous ai fait.
11Ne redoutez pas le roi de Babylone, devant qui vous tremblez; non, ne le redoutez pas, dit l'Eternel, car je serai avec vous pour vous secourir et vous sauver de ses mains.
12J'attirerai sur vous sa compassion, il aura pitié de vous, et il vous rétablira sur votre territoire.
13Mais si vous dites: "Nous ne voulons pas rester dans ce pays-ci," en refusant d'écouter la voix de l'Eternel, votre Dieu,
14si vous dites: "Non pas! mais nous allons nous rendre en Egypte, où nous ne verrons plus de combats ni n'entendrons plus le son de la trompette ni ne souffrirons du manque de pain, et là nous nous établirons."
15Eh bien donc! Ecoutez la parole de l'Eternel, ô survivants de Juda! Ainsi parle l'Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d'Israël: Si réellement vous vous obstinez à vous rendre en Egypte, si vous y entrez pour y séjourner,
16il arrivera que le glaive dont vous avez peur vous y atteindra, dans ce pays d'Egypte, et la famine, objet de vos inquiétudes, elle s'attachera à vous dans cette Egypte, et vous y périrez.
17Et tous les hommes qui se seront obstinés à pénétrer en Egypte pour y séjourner, ils deviendront la proie de l'épée, de la famine et de la peste, de sorte que personne parmi eux n'échappera et ne se soustraira au malheur que je ferai fondre sur eux.
18Car ainsi parle l'Eternel-Cebaot, Dieu d'Israël: De même que ma colère et mon indignation se sont déversées sur les habitants de Jérusalem, de même mon courroux se déversera sur vous quand vous pénétrerez en Egypte. Vous deviendrez un objet d'imprécation, de stupeur, de malédiction et d'opprobre, et ne reverrez plus ce lieu-ci.
19L'Eternel vous le dit, ô survivants de Juda: N'allez pas en Egypte. Sachez bien que je vous avertis solennellement en ce jour.
20Car vous vous êtes menti à vous-mêmes, lorsque vous m'avez délégué auprès de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, en disant: "Implore en notre faveur l'Eternel, notre Dieu, et tout ce que l'Eternel, notre Dieu, dira, rapporte-le nous fidèlement et nous agirons en conséquence."
21Je vous ai tout rapporté en ce jour, mais vous n'écoutez pas la voix de l'Eternel, votre Dieu, et cela relativement à tout ce qu'il m'a donné mission de vous dire.
22Or donc, sachez-le bien, c'est par le glaive, par la famine et par la peste que vous périrez dans le pays où il vous plaît de vous rendre, pour y séjourner."

1Y LLEGÁRONSE todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra, y Johanán hijo de Carea, y Jezanías hijo de Osaía, y todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor,
2Y dijeron á Jeremías profeta: Caiga ahora nuestro ruego delante de ti, y ruega por nosotros á Jehová tu Dios, por todo este resto, (pues hemos quedado unos pocos de muchos, como nos ven tus ojos,)
3Para que Jehová tu Dios nos enseñe camino por donde vayamos, y lo que hemos de hacer.
4Y Jeremías profeta les dijo: Ya he oído. He aquí que voy á orar á Jehová vuestro Dios, como habéis dicho; y será que todo lo que Jehová os respondiere, os enseñaré: no os reservaré palabra.
5Y ellos dijeron á Jeremías: Jehová sea entre nosotros testigo de la verdad y de la lealtad, si no hiciéremos conforme á todo aquello para lo cual Jehová tu Dios te enviare á nosotros.
6Ora sea bueno, ora malo, á la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, al cual te enviamos, obedeceremos; para que, obedeciendo á la voz de Jehová nuestro Dios, tengamos bien.
7Y aconteció que al cabo de diez días fué palabra de Jehová á Jeremías.
8Y llamó á Johanán hijo de Carea, y á todos los oficiales de la gente de guerra que con él estaban, y á todo el pueblo desde el menor hasta el mayor;
9Y díjoles: Así ha dicho Jehová Dios de Israel, al cual me enviasteis para que hiciese caer vuestros ruegos en su presencia:
10Si os quedareis quietos en esta tierra, os edificaré, y no os destruiré; os plantaré, y no os arrancaré: porque arrepentido estoy del mal que os he hecho.
11No temáis de la presencia del rey de Babilonia, del cual tenéis temor; no temáis de su presencia, ha dicho Jehová, porque con vosotros estoy yo para salvaros y libraros de su mano:
12Y os daré misericordias, y tendrá misericordia de vosotros, y os hará tornar á vuestra tierra.
13Mas si dijereis: No moraremos en esta tierra, no obedeciendo así á la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios,
14Y diciendo: No, antes nos entraremos en tierra de Egipto, en la cual no veremos guerra, ni oiremos sonido de trompeta, ni tendremos hambre de pan, y allá moraremos:
15Ahora por eso, oid la palabra de Jehová, reliquias de Judá: Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Si vosotros volviereis vuestros rostros para entrar en Egipto, y entrareis para peregrinar allá,
16Será que el cuchillo que teméis, os alcanzará allí en tierra de Egipto, y el hambre de que tenéis temor, allá en Egipto se os pegará; y allí moriréis.
17Será pues, que todos los hombres que tornaren sus rostros para entrarse en Egipto, para peregrinar allí, morirán á cuchillo, de hambre, y de pestilencia: no habrá de ellos quien quede vivo, ni quien escape delante del mal que traeré yo sobre ellos.
18Porque así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel: Como se derramó mi enojo y mi ira sobre los moradores de Jerusalem, así se derramará mi ira sobre vosotros, cuando entrareis en Egipto; y seréis por juramento y por espanto, y por maldición y por afrenta; y no veréis más este lugar.
19Jehová habló sobre vosotros, oh reliquias de Judá: No entréis en Egipto: sabed por cierto que os aviso hoy.
20¿Por qué hicisteis errar vuestras almas? porque vosotros me enviasteis á Jehová vuestro Dios, diciendo: Ora por nosotros á Jehová nuestro Dios; y conforme á todas las cosas que Jehová nuestro Dios dijere, háznoslo saber así, y lo pondremos por obra.
21Y os lo he denunciado hoy, y no habéis obedecido á la voz de Jehová vuestro Dios, ni á todas las cosas por las cuales me envió á vosotros.
22Ahora pues sabed de cierto que á cuchillo, y de hambre y pestilencia, moriréis en el lugar donde deseasteis entrar para peregrinar allí.

1Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even unto the greatest, came near,
2And said unto Jeremiah the prophet, Let, we beseech thee, our supplication be accepted before thee, and pray for us unto the LORD thy God, even for all this remnant; (for we are left but a few of many, as thine eyes do behold us:)
3That the LORD thy God may shew us the way wherein we may walk, and the thing that we may do.
4Then Jeremiah the prophet said unto them, I have heard you; behold, I will pray unto the LORD your God according to your words; and it shall come to pass, that whatsoever thing the LORD shall answer you, I will declare it unto you; I will keep nothing back from you.
5Then they said to Jeremiah, The LORD be a true and faithful witness between us, if we do not even according to all things for the which the LORD thy God shall send thee to us.
6Whether it be good, or whether it be evil, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send thee; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.
7And it came to pass after ten days, that the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah.
8Then called he Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces which were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
9And said unto them, Thus saith the LORD, the God of Israel, unto whom ye sent me to present your supplication before him;
10If ye will still abide in this land, then will I build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up: for I repent me of the evil that I have done unto you.
11Be not afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom ye are afraid; be not afraid of him, saith the LORD: for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
12And I will shew mercies unto you, that he may have mercy upon you, and cause you to return to your own land.
13But if ye say, We will not dwell in this land, neither obey the voice of the LORD your God,
14Saying, No; but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we shall see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there will we dwell:
15And now therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye remnant of Judah; Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; If ye wholly set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to sojourn there;
16Then it shall come to pass, that the sword, which ye feared, shall overtake you there in the land of Egypt, and the famine, whereof ye were afraid, shall follow close after you there in Egypt; and there ye shall die.
17So shall it be with all the men that set their faces to go into Egypt to sojourn there; they shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence: and none of them shall remain or escape from the evil that I will bring upon them.
18For thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; As mine anger and my fury hath been poured forth upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem; so shall my fury be poured forth upon you, when ye shall enter into Egypt: and ye shall be an execration, and an astonishment, and a curse, and a reproach; and ye shall see this place no more.
19The LORD hath said concerning you, O ye remnant of Judah; Go ye not into Egypt: know certainly that I have admonished you this day.
20For ye dissembled in your hearts, when ye sent me unto the LORD your God, saying, Pray for us unto the LORD our God; and according unto all that the LORD our God shall say, so declare unto us, and we will do it.
21And now I have this day declared it to you; but ye have not obeyed the voice of the LORD your God, nor any thing for the which he hath sent me unto you.
22Now therefore know certainly that ye shall die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, in the place whither ye desire to go and to sojourn.

1Then all the captains of the forces, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and Jezaniah the son of Hoshaiah, and all the people from the least even to the greatest, came near,
2and said to Jeremiah the prophet, “Please let our supplication be presented before you, and pray for us to the LORD your God, even for all this remnant, for we are left but a few of many, as your eyes see us,
3that the LORD your God may show us the way in which we should walk, and the things that we should do.”
4Then Jeremiah the prophet said to them, “I have heard you. Behold, I will pray to the LORD your God according to your words; and it will happen that whatever thing the LORD answers you, I will declare it to you. I will keep nothing back from you.”
5Then they said to Jeremiah, “May the LORD be a true and faithful witness among us, if we don’t do according to all the word with which the LORD your God sends you to tell us.
6Whether it is good, or whether it is bad, we will obey the voice of the LORD our God, to whom we send you; that it may be well with us, when we obey the voice of the LORD our God.”
7After ten days, the LORD’s word came to Jeremiah.
8Then he called Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the captains of the forces who were with him, and all the people from the least even to the greatest,
9and said to them, “The LORD, the God of Israel, to whom you sent me to present your supplication before him, says:
10‘If you will still live in this land, then I will build you, and not pull you down, and I will plant you, and not pluck you up; for I grieve over the distress that I have brought on you.
11Don’t be afraid of the king of Babylon, of whom you are afraid. Don’t be afraid of him,’ says the LORD, ‘for I am with you to save you, and to deliver you from his hand.
12I will grant you mercy, that he may have mercy on you, and cause you to return to your own land.
13“‘But if you say, “We will not dwell in this land,” so that you don’t obey the LORD your God’s voice,
14saying, “No, but we will go into the land of Egypt, where we will see no war, nor hear the sound of the trumpet, nor have hunger of bread; and there we will dwell;”’
15now therefore hear the LORD’s word, O remnant of Judah! The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says, ‘If you indeed set your faces to enter into Egypt, and go to live there,
16then it will happen that the sword, which you fear, will overtake you there in the land of Egypt; and the famine, about which you are afraid, will follow close behind you there in Egypt; and you will die there.
17So will it be with all the men who set their faces to go into Egypt to live there. They will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence. None of them will remain or escape from the evil that I will bring on them.’
18For the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘As my anger and my wrath has been poured out on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so my wrath will be poured out on you, when you enter into Egypt; and you will be an object of horror, an astonishment, a curse, and a reproach; and you will see this place no more.’
19“The LORD has spoken concerning you, remnant of Judah, ‘Don’t go into Egypt!’ Know certainly that I have testified to you today.
20For you have dealt deceitfully against your own souls; for you sent me to the LORD your God, saying, ‘Pray for us to the LORD our God; and according to all that the LORD our God says, so declare to us, and we will do it.’
21I have declared it to you today; but you have not obeyed the LORD your God’s voice in anything for which he has sent me to you.
22Now therefore know certainly that you will die by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence in the place where you desire to go to live.”
