1Vernehmt das Wort, das der HERR euch verkünden läßt, ihr vom Hause Israel!
2So hat der HERR gesprochen: »Gewöhnt euch nicht an den Weg der Heidenvölker und laßt euch nicht durch die Zeichen am Himmel erschrecken, weil die Heidenvölker vor ihnen erschrecken!
3Denn der Gottesdienst der Heidenvölker ist nichts als Wahn: ein Stück Holz ist es ja, das man im Walde gehauen hat, ein Werk von Künstlerhänden, mit dem Schnitzmesser hergestellt.
4Mit Silber und Gold verziert er es, mit Nägeln und Hämmern befestigt man es, damit es nicht wackelt.
5Wie eine Vogelscheuche im Gemüsegarten stehen sie da und können nicht reden; man muß sie tragen, denn sie können nicht gehen. Fürchtet euch nicht vor ihnen, denn sie können kein Unheil anrichten, aber auch Gutes zu tun steht nicht in ihrer Macht.«
6Dir, o HERR, ist niemand gleich! Groß bist du, und groß ist dein Name ob deiner Kraft:
7wer sollte dich nicht fürchten, du König der Völker? Ja, dir gebührt dies; denn unter allen Weisen der Heidenvölker und in all ihren Königreichen ist keiner dir gleich,
8sondern allesamt sind sie dumm und töricht: die ganze Weisheit der Götzen ist – Holz,
9dünngehämmertes Silber, das man aus Tharsis geholt hat, und Gold aus Uphas, eine Arbeit des Bildschnitzers und der Hände des Goldschmieds, blauer und roter Purpur ist ihr Gewand: Machwerke kunstfertiger Meister sind sie allesamt.
10Aber der HERR ist Gott in Wahrheit, ist der lebendige Gott und ein ewiger König; vor seinem Zürnen erbebt die Erde, und seinen Grimm vermögen die Völker nicht zu ertragen.
11So sollt ihr von ihnen sagen: »Die Götter, die den Himmel und die Erde nicht geschaffen haben, diese werden von der Erde und unter diesem Himmel hinweg verschwinden.«
12Der HERR ist es, der die Erde durch seine Kraft geschaffen, den Erdkreis durch seine Weisheit fest gegründet und durch seine Einsicht den Himmel ausgespannt hat.
13Wenn er beim Schall des Donners Wasserrauschen am Himmel entstehen läßt und Gewölk vom Ende der Erde heraufführt, wenn er Blitze beim Regen schafft und den Sturmwind aus seinen Vorratskammern herausläßt –
14starr steht alsdann jeder Mensch da, ohne es begreifen zu können, und schämen muß sich jeder Goldschmied seines Bildwerks; denn Trug ist sein gegossener Götze, kein Odem wohnt in ihm:
15nichts als Wahn sind sie, lächerliche Gebilde; wenn die Zeit des Strafgerichts für sie kommt, ist es zu Ende mit ihnen.
16Aber nicht wie diese ist Jakobs Erbteil; nein, er ist es, der das All geschaffen hat, und Israel ist der Stamm seines Erbbesitzes: HERR der Heerscharen ist sein Name.
17Raffe dein Bündel von der Erde zusammen, Tochter Zion, die du in Belagerungsnot sitzest!
18Denn so hat der HERR gesprochen: »Wisse wohl: diesmal will ich die Bewohner des Landes hinwegschleudern und sie in Bedrängnis versetzen, damit sie endlich zur Erkenntnis kommen!«
19»Wehe mir ob meiner Wunde: qualvoll ist der Schlag, der mich getroffen! Doch ich denke: ›Das ist nun einmal mein Leiden: so will ich es denn tragen!‹
20Mein Zelt ist zerstört, und alle meine Zeltstricke sind zerrissen; meine Kinder sind mir entführt, keines ist mehr da; niemand schlägt mir hinfort mein Zelt wieder auf und breitet meine Decken darüber aus!
21Denn meine Hirten sind verdummt gewesen und haben nicht nach dem HERRN gefragt; darum haben sie kein Gelingen gehabt, und ihre ganze Herde ist zerstoben.«
22Horch, eine Kunde: siehe da, sie kommt, und ein gewaltiges Getöse vom Nordlande her, um die Städte Judas zur Wüste zu machen, zur Behausung der Schakale!
23Ich weiß, HERR, daß des Menschen Schicksal nicht in seiner Hand liegt und daß ein Mann, der da wandelt, seinen Gang nicht fest zu richten vermag.
24Züchtige mich, HERR, aber nach Billigkeit, nicht in deinem Zorn, auf daß du mich nicht ganz vernichtest!
25Gieße deinen Grimm aus über die Heidenvölker, die dich nicht kennen, und über die Stämme, die deinen Namen nicht anrufen! Denn sie haben Jakob verschlungen, ja ganz und gar aufgezehrt und seine Aue zur Wüste gemacht!

1OID la palabra que Jehová ha hablado sobre vosotros, oh casa de Israel.
2Así dijo Jehová: No aprendáis el camino de las gentes, ni de las señales del cielo tengáis temor, aunque las gentes las teman.
3Porque las ordenanzas de los pueblos son vanidad: porque leño del monte cortaron, obra de manos de artífice con azuela.
4Con plata y oro lo engalanan; con clavos y martillo lo afirman, para que no se salga.
5Como palma lo igualan, y no hablan; son llevados, porque no pueden andar. No tengáis temor de ellos; porque ni pueden hacer mal, ni para hacer bien tienen poder.
6No hay semejante á ti, oh Jehová; grande tú, y grande tu nombre en fortaleza.
7¿Quién no te temerá, oh Rey de las gentes? porque á ti compete ello; porque entre todos los sabios de las gentes, y en todos sus reinos, no hay semejante á ti.
8Y todos se infatuarán, y entontecerán. Enseñanza de vanidades es el mismo leño.
9Traerán plata extendida de Tarsis, y oro de Uphaz; obrará el artífice, y las manos del fundidor; vestiránlos de cárdeno y de púrpura: obra de peritos es todo.
10Mas Jehová Dios es la verdad; él es Dios vivo y Rey eterno: á su ira tiembla la tierra, y las gentes no pueden sufrir su saña.
11Les diréis así: Los dioses que no hicieron los cielos ni la tierra, perezcan de la tierra y de debajo de estos cielos.
12El que hizo la tierra con su potencia, el que puso en orden el mundo con su saber, y extendió los cielos con su prudencia;
13A su voz se da muchedumbre de aguas en el cielo, y hace subir las nubes de lo postrero de la tierra; hace los relámpagos con la lluvia, y saca el viento de sus depósitos.
14Todo hombre se embrutece y le falta ciencia; avergüéncese de su vaciadizo todo fundidor: porque mentira es su obra de fundición, y no hay espíritu en ellos;
15Vanidad son, obra de escarnios: en el tiempo de su visitación perecerán.
16No es como ellos la suerte de Jacob: porque él es el Hacedor de todo, é Israel es la vara de su herencia: Jehová de los ejércitos es su nombre.
17Recoge de las tierras tus mercaderías, la que moras en lugar fuerte.
18Porque así ha dicho Jehová: He aquí que esta vez arrojaré con honda los moradores de la tierra, y he de afligirlos, para que lo hallen.
19¡Ay de mí, por mi quebrantamiento! mi llaga es muy dolorosa. Yo empero dije: Ciertamente enfermedad mía es esta, y debo sufrirla.
20Mi tienda es destruída, y todas mis cuerdas están rotas: mis hijos fueron sacados de mí, y perecieron: no hay ya más quien extienda mi tienda, ni quien levante mis cortinas.
21Porque los pastores se infatuaron, y no buscaron á Jehová: por tanto no prosperaron, y todo su ganado se esparció.
22He aquí que voz de fama viene, y alboroto grande de la tierra del aquilón, para tornar en soledad todas las ciudades de Judá, en morada de culebras.
23Conozco, oh Jehová, que el hombre no es señor de su camino, ni del hombre que camina es ordenar sus pasos.
24Castígame, oh Jehová, mas con juicio; no con tu furor, porque no me aniquiles.
25Derrama tu enojo sobre las gentes que no te conocen, y sobre las naciones que no invocan tu nombre: porque se comieron á Jacob, y lo devoraron, y le han consumido, y asolado su morada.

1Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel:
2Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
3For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe.
4They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not.
5They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good.
6Forasmuch as there is none like unto thee, O LORD; thou art great, and thy name is great in might.
7Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, there is none like unto thee.
8But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock is a doctrine of vanities.
9Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple is their clothing: they are all the work of cunning men.
10But the LORD is the true God, he is the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
11Thus shall ye say unto them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, even they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
12He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
13When he uttereth his voice, there is a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapours to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
14Every man is brutish in his knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15They are vanity, and the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
16The portion of Jacob is not like them: for he is the former of all things; and Israel is the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts is his name.
17Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
18For thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them, that they may find it so.
19Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this is a grief, and I must bear it.
20My tabernacle is spoiled, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone forth of me, and they are not: there is none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
21For the pastors are become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
22Behold, the noise of the bruit is come, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, and a den of dragons.
23O LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself: it is not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
24O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thine anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
25Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.

1Hear the word which the LORD speaks to you, house of Israel!
2The LORD says, “Don’t learn the way of the nations, and don’t be dismayed at the signs of the sky; for the nations are dismayed at them.
3For the customs of the peoples are vanity; for one cuts a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman with the ax.
4They deck it with silver and with gold. They fasten it with nails and with hammers, so that it can’t move.
5They are like a palm tree, of turned work, and don’t speak. They must be carried, because they can’t move. Don’t be afraid of them; for they can’t do evil, neither is it in them to do good.”
6There is no one like you, LORD. You are great, and your name is great in might.
7Who shouldn’t fear you, King of the nations? For it belongs to you. Because among all the wise men of the nations, and in all their royal estate, there is no one like you.
8But they are together brutish and foolish, instructed by idols! It is just wood.
9There is silver beaten into plates, which is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the engraver and of the hands of the goldsmith. Their clothing is blue and purple. They are all the work of skillful men.
10But the LORD is the true God. He is the living God, and an everlasting King. At his wrath, the earth trembles. The nations aren’t able to withstand his indignation.
11“You shall say this to them: ‘The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth will perish from the earth, and from under the heavens.’”
12God has made the earth by his power. He has established the world by his wisdom, and by his understanding has he stretched out the heavens.
13When he utters his voice, the waters in the heavens roar, and he causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth. He makes lightnings for the rain, and brings the wind out of his treasuries.
14Every man has become brutish and without knowledge. Every goldsmith is disappointed by his engraved image; for his molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them.
15They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish.
16The portion of Jacob is not like these; for he is the maker of all things; and Israel is the tribe of his inheritance. The LORD of Armies is his name.
17Gather up your wares out of the land, you who live under siege.
18For the LORD says, “Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this time, and will distress them, that they may feel it.”
19Woe is me because of my injury! My wound is serious; but I said, “Truly this is my grief, and I must bear it.”
20My tent has been destroyed, and all my cords are broken. My children have gone away from me, and they are no more. There is no one to spread my tent any more, to set up my curtains.
21For the shepherds have become brutish, and have not inquired of the LORD. Therefore they have not prospered, and all their flocks have scattered.
22The voice of news, behold, it comes, and a great commotion out of the north country, to make the cities of Judah a desolation, a dwelling place of jackals.
23LORD, I know that the way of man is not in himself. It is not in man who walks to direct his steps.
24LORD, correct me, but gently; not in your anger, lest you reduce me to nothing.
25Pour out your wrath on the nations that don’t know you, and on the families that don’t call on your name; for they have devoured Jacob. Yes, they have devoured him, consumed him, and have laid waste his habitation.
