Ma Abimelech figliuolo di Jerobaal se n'andò a Sichem dai fratelli di sua madre, parlò con essi e con tutti i parenti della casa del padre di sua madre, dicendo:

Y FUÉSE Abimelech hijo de Jerobaal á Sichêm, á los hermanos de su madre, y habló con ellos, y con toda la familia de la casa del padre de su madre, diciendo:

And Abimelech the son of Jerubbaal went to Shechem unto his mother’s brethren, and communed with them, and with all the family of the house of his mother’s father, saying,

Dite a tutti gli uomini di Sichem: Qual cosa è migliore per voi, di essere dominati da settanta uomini figliuoli tutti di Jerobaal, oppure di essere sotto il dominio di un solo? E insieme considerate ch'io sono della stessa carne, e dello stesso sangue con voi.

Yo os ruego que habléis á oídos de todos los de Sichêm: ¿Qué tenéis por mejor, que os señoreen setenta hombres, todos los hijos de Jerobaal; ó que os señoree un varón? Acordaos que yo soy hueso vuestro, y carne vuestra.

Speak, I pray you, in the ears of all the men of Shechem, Whether is better for you, either that all the sons of Jerubbaal, which are threescore and ten persons, reign over you, or that one reign over you? remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.

“Please speak in the ears of all the men of Shechem, ‘Is it better for you that all the sons of Jerubbaal, who are seventy persons, rule over you, or that one rule over you?’ Remember also that I am your bone and your flesh.”

E i fratelli di sua madre parlarono di lui con tutti gli uomini di Sichem su questo tuono, e caparrarono il loro affetto per Abimelech, dicendo: Egli è nostro fratello.

Y hablaron por él los hermanos de su madre á oídos de todos los de Sichêm todas estas palabras: y el corazón de ellos se inclinó en favor de Abimelech, porque decían: Nuestro hermano es.

E gli diedero settanta libbre d'argento del tempio di Baal-berith. Col quale egli assoldò della gente mendica, e vagabonda che lo seguì.

E andò alla casa del padre suo in Ephra, e uccise i settanta figliuoli di Jerobaal suoi fratelli sopra una stessa pietra: e non vi rimase altri che Joatham figliuolo di Jerobaal il più piccolo, che fu nascosto.

Y viniendo á la casa de su padre en Ophra, mató á sus hermanos los hijos de Jerobaal, setenta varones, sobre una piedra: mas quedó Jotham, el más pequeño hijo de Jerobaal, que se escondió.

And he went unto his father’s house at Ophrah, and slew his brethren the sons of Jerubbaal, being threescore and ten persons, upon one stone: notwithstanding yet Jotham the youngest son of Jerubbaal was left; for he hid himself.

E si adunarono tutti gli uomini di Sichem, e tutte le famiglie della città di Mello: e andarono a crear loro re Abimelech presso la quercia ch'era in Sichem.

Y reunidos todos los de Sichêm con toda la casa de Millo, fueron y eligieron á Abimelech por rey, cerca de la llanura del pilar que estaba en Sichêm.

And all the men of Shechem gathered together, and all the house of Millo, and went, and made Abimelech king, by the plain of the pillar that was in Shechem.

La qual cosa quando ebbe intesa Joatham, andò a posarsi sulla cima del monte Garizim, e ad alta voce gridò: Ascoltate me, uomini di Sichem: così Dio ascolti voi.

Y como se lo dijesen á Jotham, fué y púsose en la cumbre del monte de Gerizim, y alzando su voz clamó, y díjoles: Oidme, varones de Sichêm; que Dios os oiga.

And when they told it to Jotham, he went and stood in the top of mount Gerizim, and lifted up his voice, and cried, and said unto them, Hearken unto me, ye men of Shechem, that God may hearken unto you.

Ma quegli rispose: Potrò io abbandonare il mio sugo che serve agli dei, e agli uomini, per venire ad essere superiore agli alberi?

Mas la oliva respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi pingüe jugo, con el que por mi causa Dios y los hombres son honrados, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the olive tree said unto them, Should I leave my fatness, wherewith by me they honour God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“But the olive tree said to them, ‘Should I stop producing my oil, with which they honor God and man by me, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

E gli alberi dissero al fico: Vieni, e regna sopra di noi.

Y dijeron los árboles á la higuera: Anda tú, reina sobre nosotros.

And the trees said to the fig tree, Come thou, and reign over us.

Ma egli rispose loro: Poss'io lasciare la mia dolcezza, e i soavissimi frutti, per andare ad esser superiore agli altri alberi?

Y respondió la higuera: ¿Tengo de dejar mi dulzura y mi buen fruto, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

But the fig tree said unto them, Should I forsake my sweetness, and my good fruit, and go to be promoted over the trees?

E gli alberi dissero alla vite: Vieni, e sii nostra sovrana.

Dijeron luego los árboles á la vid: Pues ven tú, reina sobre nosotros.

Then said the trees unto the vine, Come thou, and reign over us.

E quella rispose loro: Poss'io abbandonare il mio vino che letifica Dio, e gli uomini, per esser fatta regina delle piante?

Y la vid les respondió: ¿Tengo de dejar mi mosto, que alegra á Dios y á los hombres, por ir á ser grande sobre los árboles?

And the vine said unto them, Should I leave my wine, which cheereth God and man, and go to be promoted over the trees?

“The vine said to them, ‘Should I leave my new wine, which cheers God and man, and go to wave back and forth over the trees?’

Disser di poi tutte le piante al roveto: Vieni a comandare a noi.

Ed egli rispose loro: Se veramente mi fate vostro re, venite a riposarvi sotto la mia ombra: ma se non volete, esca fuoco dal roveto, e divori i cedri del Libano.

Y el escaramujo respondió á los árboles: Si en verdad me elegís por rey sobre vosotros, venid, y aseguraos debajo de mi sombra: y si no, fuego salga del escaramujo que devore los cedros del Líbano.

And the bramble said unto the trees, If in truth ye anoint me king over you, then come and put your trust in my shadow: and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.

“The bramble said to the trees, ‘If in truth you anoint me king over you, then come and take refuge in my shade; and if not, let fire come out of the bramble, and devour the cedars of Lebanon.’

Ora adunque se giustamente, e senza colpa avete eletto per vostro re Abimelech, e se avete trattato bene Jerobaal, e la sua famiglia, e avete data ricompensa a' benefizii di lui, che adoprò la spada per voi,

Ahora pues, si con verdad y con integridad habéis procedido en hacer rey á Abimelech, y si lo habéis hecho bien con Jerobaal y con su casa, y si le habéis pagado conforme á la obra de sus manos;

Now therefore, if ye have done truly and sincerely, in that ye have made Abimelech king, and if ye have dealt well with Jerubbaal and his house, and have done unto him according to the deserving of his hands;

E pose a repentaglio la propria vita per liberarvi dalle mani del Madianita,

(Pues que mi padre peleó por vosotros, y echó lejos su vida por libraros de mano de Madián;

(For my father fought for you, and adventured his life far, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian:

(for my father fought for you, risked his life, and delivered you out of the hand of Midian;

Voi che ve la siete presa contro la casa del padre mio, e avete uccisi i suoi figliuoli, settanta persone sopra una stessa pietra, e avete eletto re degli abitatori di Sichem Abimelech figliuolo di una sua schiava, perchè è vostro fratello:

Y vosotros os levantasteis hoy contra la casa de mi padre, y matasteis sus hijos, setenta varones, sobre una piedra; y habéis puesto por rey sobre los de Sichêm á Abimelech, hijo de su criada, por cuanto es vuestro hermano:)

And ye are risen up against my father’s house this day, and have slain his sons, threescore and ten persons, upon one stone, and have made Abimelech, the son of his maidservant, king over the men of Shechem, because he is your brother;)

Se adunque con giustizia, e senza peccato portati vi siete verso Jerobaal, e verso la sua famiglia, fate oggi festa per ragione di Abimelech, ed egli faccia festa per ragion di voi.

Si con verdad y con integridad habéis obrado hoy con Jerobaal y con su casa, que gocéis de Abimelech, y él goce de vosotros.

If ye then have dealt truly and sincerely with Jerubbaal and with his house this day, then rejoice ye in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you:

if you then have dealt truly and righteously with Jerubbaal and with his house today, then rejoice in Abimelech, and let him also rejoice in you;

Ma se perversamente avete operato, esca fuoco da lui, che divori gli abitanti di Sichem, e la città di Mello: e dagli uomini di Sichem, e dalla città di Mello esca fuoco, il quale divori Abimelech.

Y si no, fuego salga de Abimelech, que consuma á los de Sichêm y á la casa de Millo; y fuego salga de los de Sichêm y de la casa de Millo, que consuma á Abimelech.

But if not, let fire come out from Abimelech, and devour the men of Shechem, and the house of Millo; and let fire come out from the men of Shechem, and from the house of Millo, and devour Abimelech.

Dette le quali cose si fuggì egli, e se n'andò a Bera: e vi abitò per timore di Abimelech suo fratello.

E a gettare sopra Abimelech loro fratello, e sopra tutti gli altri principi di Sichem che lo avean favoreggiato, la scelleraggine dell'uccisione dei settanta figliuoli di Jerobaal, e lo spargimento del loro sangue.

Para que el agravio de los setenta hijos de Jerobaal, y la sangre de ellos, viniera á ponerse sobre Abimelech su hermano que los mató, y sobre los hombres de Sichêm que corroboraron las manos de él para matar á sus hermanos.

That the cruelty done to the threescore and ten sons of Jerubbaal might come, and their blood be laid upon Abimelech their brother, which slew them; and upon the men of Shechem, which aided him in the killing of his brethren.

E gli tesero insidie sulla cima dei monti; e in aspettando il suo ritorno commettevano assassinamenti, e svaligiavano i passeggeri, e ne fu avvisato Abimelech.

Y pusiéronle los de Sichêm asechadores en las cumbres de los montes, los cuales salteaban á todos los que pasaban junto á ellos por el camino; de lo que fué dado aviso á Abimelech.

And the men of Shechem set liers in wait for him in the top of the mountains, and they robbed all that came along that way by them: and it was told Abimelech.

Allora Gaal figliuolo di Obed passò a Sichem co' suoi fratelli. E alla venuta di lui inanimati gli abitanti di Sichem,

And Gaal the son of Ebed said, Who is Abimelech, and who is Shechem, that we should serve him? is not he the son of Jerubbaal? and Zebul his officer? serve the men of Hamor the father of Shechem: for why should we serve him?

Piacesse al Cielo che alcuno desse in mia mano il governo di questo popolo, che leverei di mezzo Abimelech. E fu detto ad Abimelech: Raduna un buon esercito, e vieni:

Fuérame dado este pueblo bajo de mi mano, yo echaría luego á Abimelech. Y decía á Abimelech: Aumenta tus escuadrones, y sal.

And would to God this people were under my hand! then would I remove Abimelech. And he said to Abimelech, Increase thine army, and come out.

Imperocchè Zebul principe della città, uditi i discorsi di Gaal figliuolo di Obed, ne prese ira grande,

E mandò per segreti nunzii a dire ad Abimelech: Ecco che Gaal figliuolo di Obed è giunto a Sichem co' suoi fratelli, e cerca di farsi padrone della città contra di te.

Y envió sagazmente mensajeros á Abimelech, diciendo: He aquí que Gaal hijo de Ebed y sus hermanos han venido á Sichêm, y he aquí, que han cercado la ciudad contra ti.

And he sent messengers unto Abimelech privily, saying, Behold, Gaal the son of Ebed and his brethren be come to Shechem; and, behold, they fortify the city against thee.

Muoviti adunque colla gente che hai teco, di notte tempo, e statti ascoso nella campagna:

Now therefore up by night, thou and the people that is with thee, and lie in wait in the field:

E alla punta del dì levandosi il sole, gettati contro la città: e uscendo egli colla sua gente incontro a te, fa a lui tutto quel che potrai.

Y por la mañana al salir del sol te levantarás y acometerás la ciudad: y él y el pueblo que está con él saldrán contra ti, y tu harás con él según que se te ofrecerá.

And it shall be, that in the morning, as soon as the sun is up, thou shalt rise early, and set upon the city: and, behold, when he and the people that is with him come out against thee, then mayest thou do to them as thou shalt find occasion.

Per la qual cosa Abimelech si mosse di notte tempo con tutto il suo esercito, e pose insidie vicino a Sichem in quattro luoghi.

E Gaal figliuolo di Obed uscì fuori, ma si fermò all'ingresso della porta della città. E Abimelech, e tutto il suo esercito uscì d'aguato.

E Gaal vedendo quella gente disse a Zebul: Mira qual moltitudine scende dai monti. E quegli rispose a lui: Quel che tu vedi son l'ombre de' monti che ti paiono teste di uomini, e questo è il tuo inganno.

Y viendo Gaal el pueblo, dijo á Zebul: He allí pueblo que desciende de las cumbres de los montes. Y Zebul le respondió: La sombra de los montes te parece hombres.

And when Gaal saw the people, he said to Zebul, Behold, there come people down from the top of the mountains. And Zebul said unto him, Thou seest the shadow of the mountains as if they were men.

E ripigliò Gaal: Mira qual turba scende dalle più alte cime, e una schiera s'incammina per la strada che mena alla quercia.

Mas Gaal tornó á hablar, y dijo: He allí pueblo que desciende por medio de la tierra, y un escuadrón viene camino de la campiña de Meonenim.

And Gaal spake again and said, See there come people down by the middle of the land, and another company come along by the plain of Meonenim.

E disse a lui Zebul: Dov'è adesso, la tua audacia, colla quale dicevi: Chi è Abimelech, che dobbiamo servire a lui? Non son eglino costoro quella gente che tu disprezzavi? Va adunque, e combatti contro di lui.

Y Zebul le respondió: ¿Dónde está ahora aquel tu hablar, diciendo: Quién es Abimelech para que le sirvamos? ¿No es este el pueblo que tenías en poco? Sal pues ahora, y pelea con él.

Then said Zebul unto him, Where is now thy mouth, wherewith thou saidst, Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him? is not this the people that thou hast despised? go out, I pray now, and fight with them.

Then Zebul said to him, “Now where is your mouth, that you said, ‘Who is Abimelech, that we should serve him?’ Isn’t this the people that you have despised? Please go out now and fight with them.”

E Gaal andò, e avendo spettatore tutto il popolo di Sichem, attaccò la mischia con Abimelech:

Quindi il giorno appresso uscì il popolo alla campagna. Della qual cosa essendo stato recato avviso ad Abimelech,

Pues Abimelech y el escuadrón que estaba con él, acometieron con ímpetu, y pararon á la entrada de la puerta de la ciudad; y las dos compañías acometieron á todos los que estaban en el campo, y los hirieron.

And Abimelech, and the company that was with him, rushed forward, and stood in the entering of the gate of the city: and the two other companies ran upon all the people that were in the fields, and slew them.

Quegli adunque tagliando a gara rami di alberi seguivano il capitano. E avendo con essi circondata la fortezza, vi miser fuoco, e in tal guisa dal fumo e dalle fiamme furono uccise mille persone, uomini insieme, e donne che abitavan la torre di Sichem.

E creato condottiere Thola: e a lui morto succede Jair: ma gl'Israeliti caduti nell’ idolatria sono dati in potere de’ Filistei, e degli Ammoniti. Fanno penitenza, e Dio rimprovera ad essi la loro ingratitudine, e finalmente ne ha compassione.

Y aun todo el mal de los hombres de Sichêm tornó Dios sobre sus cabezas: y la maldición de Jotham, hijo de Jerobaal, vino sobre ellos.

And all the evil of the men of Shechem did God render upon their heads: and upon them came the curse of Jotham the son of Jerubbaal.
