MAS los hijos de Israel hicieron lo malo en los ojos de Jehová; y Jehová los entregó en las manos de Madián por siete años.
And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the LORD: and the LORD delivered them into the hand of Midian seven years.

La mano de Madián pesó sobre Israel de tal manera que los hijos de Israel por miedo a los madianitas se hicieron los antros que se hallan en las montañas, las cuevas y los lugares fortificados.
Y la mano de Madián prevaleció contra Israel. Y los hijos de Israel, por causa de los Madianitas, se hicieron cuevas en los montes, y cavernas, y lugares fuertes.

Acampaban frente a ellos y destruían los productos de la tierra hasta la región de Gaza, no dejando a Israel sustento alguno, ni oveja, ni buey, ni asno.

Con lo que Israel fue muy debilitado por los madianitas, y los hijos de Israel clamaron a Yahvé.

And Israel was greatly impoverished because of the Midianites; and the children of Israel cried unto the LORD.

envió Yahvé un profeta a los hijos de Israel, que les dijo: “Así dice Yahvé, el Dios de Israel: Yo os hice subir de Egipto, sacándoos de la casa de la servidumbre;

That the LORD sent a prophet unto the children of Israel, which said unto them, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I brought you up from Egypt, and brought you forth out of the house of bondage;

And I said unto you, I am the LORD your God; fear not the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but ye have not obeyed my voice.
I said to you, “I am the LORD your God. You shall not fear the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell.” But you have not listened to my voice.’”
Vino el Ángel de Yahvé y se sentó bajo el terebinto de Ofrá, que pertenecía a Joás de la familia de Abiéser, cuando Gedeón, su hijo, estaba batiendo el trigo en el lagar, para esconderlo de los madianitas.
Y vino el ángel de Jehová, y sentóse debajo del alcornoque que está en Ophra, el cual era de Joas Abiezerita; y su hijo Gedeón estaba sacudiendo el trigo en el lagar, para hacerlo esconder de los Madianitas.
And there came an angel of the LORD, and sat under an oak which was in Ophrah, that pertained unto Joash the Abi-ezrite: and his son Gideon threshed wheat by the winepress, to hide it from the Midianites.
The LORD’s angel came and sat under the oak which was in Ophrah, that belonged to Joash the Abiezrite. His son Gideon was beating out wheat in the wine press, to hide it from the Midianites.
Se le apareció el Ángel de Yahvé y le dijo: “Yahvé está contigo, ¡oh valiente héroe!”
Y el ángel de Jehová se le apareció, y díjole: Jehová es contigo, varón esforzado.
And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him, and said unto him, The LORD is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.

Gedeón contestó: “Ah, señor mío; si Yahvé está con nosotros, ¿cómo es que nos ha sucedido todo esto? ¿Dónde están todos sus prodigios que nos han contado nuestros padres, diciendo: No nos sacó Yahvé de Egipto? Mas ahora Yahvé nos ha abandonado y entregado en manos de Madián.”
Y Gedeón le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, si Jehová es con nosotros, ¿por qué nos ha sobrevenido todo esto? ¿Y dónde están todas sus maravillas, que nuestros padres nos han contado, diciendo: ¿No nos sacó Jehová de Egipto? Y ahora Jehová nos ha desamparado, y nos ha entregado en mano de los Madianitas.
And Gideon said unto him, Oh my Lord, if the LORD be with us, why then is all this befallen us? and where be all his miracles which our fathers told us of, saying, Did not the LORD bring us up from Egypt? but now the LORD hath forsaken us, and delivered us into the hands of the Midianites.
Gideon said to him, “Oh, my lord, if the LORD is with us, why then has all this happened to us? Where are all his wondrous works which our fathers told us of, saying, ‘Didn’t the LORD bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the LORD has cast us off, and delivered us into the hand of Midian.”
Entonces Yahvé se volvió hacia él y dijo: “Anda con esta tu fuerza, y salvarás a Israel de la mano de Madián. ¿No soy Yo quien te envío?”
Y mirándole Jehová, díjole: Ve con esta tu fortaleza, y salvarás á Israel de la mano de los Madianitas. ¿No te envío yo?
And the LORD looked upon him, and said, Go in this thy might, and thou shalt save Israel from the hand of the Midianites: have not I sent thee?
The LORD looked at him, and said, “Go in this your might, and save Israel from the hand of Midian. Haven’t I sent you?”
Mas él le dijo: “¡Ah, Señor! ¿Con qué he de salvar yo a Israel? Mira, mi familia es la más pobre en Manasés, y yo soy el más pequeño de la casa de mi padre.”
Entonces le respondió: Ah, Señor mío, ¿con qué tengo de salvar á Israel? He aquí que mi familia es pobre en Manasés, y yo el menor en la casa de mi padre.
And he said unto him, Oh my Lord, wherewith shall I save Israel? behold, my family is poor in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.
He said to him, “O Lord, how shall I save Israel? Behold, my family is the poorest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my father’s house.”
Yahvé le respondió: “Yo estaré contigo; y derrotarás a Madián como si fuese un solo hombre.”
Y Jehová le dijo: Porque yo seré contigo, y herirás á los Madianitas como á un solo hombre.
And the LORD said unto him, Surely I will be with thee, and thou shalt smite the Midianites as one man.
The LORD said to him, “Surely I will be with you, and you shall strike the Midianites as one man.”
Entonces él le dijo: “Si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, te ruego que me des una señal de que eres Tú quien hablas conmigo.
Y él respondió: Yo te ruego, que si he hallado gracia delante de ti, me des señal de que tú has hablado conmigo.
And he said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, then shew me a sign that thou talkest with me.
He said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, then show me a sign that it is you who talk with me.
Y no te retires de aquí hasta que yo vuelva hacia ti y traiga mi ofrenda para ponerla delante de ti.” A lo cual respondió: “Yo me quedaré hasta que vuelvas.”
Ruégote que no te vayas de aquí, hasta que á ti vuelva, y saque mi presente, y lo ponga delante de ti. Y él respondió: Yo esperaré hasta que vuelvas.
Depart not hence, I pray thee, until I come unto thee, and bring forth my present, and set it before thee. And he said, I will tarry until thou come again.
Please don’t go away until I come to you, and bring out my present, and lay it before you.” He said, “I will wait until you come back.”
Fue Gedeón y aderezó un cabrito, y con un efa de flor de harina coció ácimos; luego puso la carne en un canasto y echó el caldo en una olla, y los llevó para presentarlos debajo del terebinto.
Y entrándose Gedeón aderezó un cabrito, y panes sin levadura de un epha de harina; y puso la carne en un canastillo, y el caldo en una olla, y sacándolo presentóselo debajo de aquel alcornoque.
And Gideon went in, and made ready a kid, and unleavened cakes of an ephah of flour: the flesh he put in a basket, and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out unto him under the oak, and presented it.
Gideon went in and prepared a young goat and unleavened cakes of an ephah of meal. He put the meat in a basket and he put the broth in a pot, and brought it out to him under the oak, and presented it.
Y le dijo el Ángel de Dios: “Toma la carne y los ácimos, ponlos sobre esta peña y echa sobre ellos el caldo.” Y él lo hizo así.
Y el ángel de Dios le dijo: Toma la carne, y los panes sin levadura, y ponlo sobre esta peña, y vierte el caldo. Y él lo hizo así.
And the angel of God said unto him, Take the flesh and the unleavened cakes, and lay them upon this rock, and pour out the broth. And he did so.
The angel of God said to him, “Take the meat and the unleavened cakes, and lay them on this rock, and pour out the broth.” He did so.
Entonces el Ángel de Yahvé extendió la punta del báculo que tenía en la mano, y tocó la carne y los ácimos; y salió fuego de la peña, que consumió la carne y los ácimos. Luego el Ángel de Yahvé desapareció de su vista.
Y extendiendo el ángel de Jehová el bordón que tenía en su mano, tocó con la punta en la carne y en los panes sin levadura; y subió fuego de la peña, el cual consumió la carne y los panes sin levadura. Y el ángel de Jehová desapareció de delante de él.
Then the angel of the LORD put forth the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the flesh and the unleavened cakes; and there rose up fire out of the rock, and consumed the flesh and the unleavened cakes. Then the angel of the LORD departed out of his sight.
Then the LORD’s angel stretched out the end of the staff that was in his hand, and touched the meat and the unleavened cakes; and fire went up out of the rock and consumed the meat and the unleavened cakes. Then the LORD’s angel departed out of his sight.
Viendo Gedeón que era el Ángel de Yahvé, dijo: “Ay de mí, Señor Yahvé, pues yo he visto al Ángel de Yahvé cara a cara.”
Y viendo Gedeón que era el ángel de Jehová, dijo: Ah, Señor Jehová, que he visto el ángel de Jehová cara á cara.
And when Gideon perceived that he was an angel of the LORD, Gideon said, Alas, O Lord GOD! for because I have seen an angel of the LORD face to face.
Gideon saw that he was the LORD’s angel; and Gideon said, “Alas, Lord GOD! Because I have seen the LORD’s angel face to face!”
Yahvé le dijo: “La paz sea contigo; no temas, no morirás.”
Y Jehová le dijo: Paz á ti; no tengas temor, no morirás.
And the LORD said unto him, Peace be unto thee; fear not: thou shalt not die.
The LORD said to him, “Peace be to you! Don’t be afraid. You shall not die.”
Gedeón erigió allí un altar a Yahvé, y lo llamó Paz de Yahvé. Este altar está hasta el día de hoy en Ofrá de Abiéser.
Y edificó allí Gedeón altar á Jehová, al que llamó Jehová-salom: está hasta hoy en Ophra de los Abiezeritas.
Then Gideon built an altar there unto the LORD, and called it Jehovah-shalom: unto this day it is yet in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
Then Gideon built an altar there to the LORD, and called it “The LORD is Peace.” To this day it is still in Ophrah of the Abiezrites.
En aquella misma noche dijo Yahvé a Gedeón: “Toma el toro de tu padre, el toro segundo que tiene siete años, y derriba el altar de Baal que pertenece a tu padre, y corta la aschera que está junto a él;
Y aconteció que la misma noche le dijo Jehová: Toma un toro del hato de tu padre, y otro toro de siete años, y derriba el altar de Baal que tu padre tiene, y corta también el bosque que está junto á él:
And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father’s young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:
That same night, the LORD said to him, “Take your father’s bull, even the second bull seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that your father has, and cut down the Asherah that is by it.
y edifica un altar a Yahvé, tu Dios, sobre la cumbre de este peñasco, según lo dispuesto, y tomando aquel segundo toro, lo ofrecerás en holocausto con la madera de la aschera cortada.”
Y edifica altar á Jehová tu Dios en la cumbre de este peñasco en lugar conveniente; y tomando el segundo toro, sacrifícalo en holocausto sobre la leña del bosque que habrás cortado.
And build an altar unto the LORD thy God upon the top of this rock, in the ordered place, and take the second bullock, and offer a burnt sacrifice with the wood of the grove which thou shalt cut down.
Then build an altar to the LORD your God on the top of this stronghold, in an orderly way, and take the second bull, and offer a burnt offering with the wood of the Asherah which you shall cut down.”
Tomó Gedeón diez hombres de entre sus siervos, e hizo lo que Yahvé le había mandado, pero por temor a la casa de su padre y a los hombres de la ciudad no lo hizo de día, sino de noche.
Entonces Gedeón tomó diez hombres de sus siervos, é hizo como Jehová le dijo. Mas temiendo hacerlo de día, por la familia de su padre y por los hombres de la ciudad, hízolo de noche.
Then Gideon took ten men of his servants, and did as the LORD had said unto him: and so it was, because he feared his father’s household, and the men of the city, that he could not do it by day, that he did it by night.

Cuando al día siguiente madrugaron los hombres de la ciudad vieron derribado el altar de Baal, cortada la aschera que había junto a él, y el toro segundo ofrecido en holocausto sobre el altar edificado.
Y á la mañana, cuando los de la ciudad se levantaron, he aquí que el altar de Baal estaba derribado, y cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba, y sacrificado aquel segundo toro en holocausto sobre el altar edificado.
And when the men of the city arose early in the morning, behold, the altar of Baal was cast down, and the grove was cut down that was by it, and the second bullock was offered upon the altar that was built.

Se preguntaban entonces unos a otros: “¿Quién ha hecho esto?” Investigaron y buscaron, y se les dijo: “Gedeón, hijo de Joás, ha hecho esto.”
Y decíanse unos á otros: ¿Quién ha hecho esto? Y buscando é inquiriendo, dijéronles: Gedeón hijo de Joas lo ha hecho. Entonces los hombres de la ciudad dijeron á Joas:
And they said one to another, Who hath done this thing? And when they enquired and asked, they said, Gideon the son of Joash hath done this thing.
They said to one another, “Who has done this thing?” When they inquired and asked, they said, “Gideon the son of Joash has done this thing.”
Por lo cual los hombres de la ciudad dijeron a Joás: “Saca a tu hijo para que muera; pues ha derribado el altar de Baal, y cortado la aschera que estaba a su lado.”
Saca fuera tu hijo para que muera, por cuanto ha derribado el altar de Baal y ha cortado el bosque que junto á él estaba.
Then the men of the city said unto Joash, Bring out thy son, that he may die: because he hath cast down the altar of Baal, and because he hath cut down the grove that was by it.
Then the men of the city said to Joash, “Bring out your son, that he may die, because he has broken down the altar of Baal, and because he has cut down the Asherah that was by it.”
Mas Joás respondió a todos los que estaban delante de él: “¿Queréis acaso combatir por Baal? ¿Pretendéis vosotros salvarle? Quien se atreva luchar por él, que muera antes que llegue la mañana. Si él es Dios que luche por sí mismo contra el que ha derribado su altar.”
Y Joas respondió á todos los que estaban junto á él: ¿Tomaréis vosotros la demanda por Baal? ¿le salvaréis vosotros? Cualquiera que tomare la demanda por él, que muera mañana. Si es Dios, contienda por sí mismo con el que derribó su altar.
And Joash said unto all that stood against him, Will ye plead for Baal? will ye save him? he that will plead for him, let him be put to death whilst it is yet morning: if he be a god, let him plead for himself, because one hath cast down his altar.
Joash said to all who stood against him, “Will you contend for Baal? Or will you save him? He who will contend for him, let him be put to death by morning! If he is a god, let him contend for himself, because someone has broken down his altar!”
En aquel día Gedeón fue llamado Jerobaal, porque decía: “Luche Baal con aquel que ha derribado su altar.”
Y aquel día llamó él á Gedeón Jerobaal; porque dijo: Pleitee Baal contra el que derribó su altar.
Therefore on that day he called him Jerubbaal, saying, Let Baal plead against him, because he hath thrown down his altar.
Therefore on that day he named him Jerub-Baal, saying, “Let Baal contend against him, because he has broken down his altar.”
Todo Madián y Amalec y los hijos del Oriente se coligaron, pasaron (el Jordán) y acamparon en el valle de Jesreel.
Y todos los Madianitas, y Amalecitas, y orientales, se juntaron á una, y pasando asentaron campo en el valle de Jezreel.
Then all the Midianites and the Amalekites and the children of the east were gathered together, and went over, and pitched in the valley of Jezreel.

Entonces el Espíritu de Yahvé revistió a Gedeón, el cual tocó la trompeta, y se juntaron los de la familia de Abiéser para seguirle.
Y el espíritu de Jehová se envistió en Gedeón, y como éste hubo tocado el cuerno, Abiezer se juntó con él.
But the Spirit of the LORD came upon Gideon, and he blew a trumpet; and Abi-ezer was gathered after him.

Envió también mensajeros por todo Manasés, y ellos se juntaron para seguirle. Envió, además, mensajeros a Aser, Zabulón y Neftalí, los cuales salieron a su encuentro.

And he sent messengers throughout all Manasseh; who also was gathered after him: and he sent messengers unto Asher, and unto Zebulun, and unto Naphtali; and they came up to meet them.

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said,
Gideon said to God, “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken,
he aquí que voy a poner un vellocino de lana en la era. Si solamente el vellocino se cubre de rocío, quedando todo el suelo seco, conoceré que salvarás por mi mano a Israel, conforme has prometido.”
He aquí que yo pondré un vellón de lana en la era; y si el rocío estuviere en el vellón solamente, quedando seca toda la otra tierra, entonces entenderé que has de salvar á Israel por mi mano, como lo has dicho.
Behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.
behold, I will put a fleece of wool on the threshing floor. If there is dew on the fleece only, and it is dry on all the ground, then I’ll know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have spoken.”
Así fue; cuando al día siguiente se levantó muy temprano para exprimir el vellocino, sacó del vellocino tanta agua que con ella llenó una taza.
Y aconteció así: porque como se levantó de mañana, exprimiendo el vellón sacó de él el rocío, un vaso lleno de agua.
And it was so: for he rose up early on the morrow, and thrust the fleece together, and wringed the dew out of the fleece, a bowl full of water.

Dijo entonces Gedeón a Dios: “No se encienda tu ira contra mí, si hablo una vez más. Permíteme repetir la prueba con el vellocino solamente esta vez. Te ruego quede seco el vellocino, en tanto que en todo el suelo haya rocío.”
Mas Gedeón dijo á Dios: No se encienda tu ira contra mí, si aun hablare esta vez: solamente probaré ahora otra vez con el vellón. Ruégote que la sequedad sea sólo en el vellón, y el rocío sobre la tierra.
And Gideon said unto God, Let not thine anger be hot against me, and I will speak but this once: let me prove, I pray thee, but this once with the fleece; let it now be dry only upon the fleece, and upon all the ground let there be dew.
Gideon said to God, “Don’t let your anger be kindled against me, and I will speak but this once. Please let me make a trial just this once with the fleece. Let it now be dry only on the fleece, and on all the ground let there be dew.”
Y así lo hizo Dios en aquella noche; quedó seco el vellocino solo, y en todo el suelo hubo rocío.
Y aquella noche lo hizo Dios así: porque la sequedad fué sólo en el vellón, y en toda la tierra estuvo el rocío.
