Eravi un certo Levita che abitava accanto al monte di Ephraim, il quale prese una moglie di Bethlehem di Giuda:

EN aquellos días, cuando no había rey en Israel, hubo un Levita que moraba como peregrino en los lados del monte de Ephraim, el cual se había tomado mujer concubina de Beth-lehem de Judá.

And it came to pass in those days, when there was no king in Israel, that there was a certain Levite sojourning on the side of mount Ephraim, who took to him a concubine out of Beth-lehem-judah.

In those days, when there was no king in Israel, there was a certain Levite living on the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim, who took for himself a concubine out of Bethlehem Judah.

La quale lo lasciò, e tornò a casa di suo padre a Bethlehem, e si stette con lui quattro mesi.

Y su concubina adulteró contra él, y fuese de él á casa de su padre, á Beth-lehem de Judá, y estuvo allá por tiempo de cuatro meses.

And his concubine played the whore against him, and went away from him unto her father’s house to Beth-lehem-judah, and was there four whole months.

E suo marito andò a trovarla, volendo riconciliarsi con lei, e colle buone parole ricondurla seco; egli avea con se un servo, e due asini: ed ella lo accolse, e menollo in casa di suo padre. E il suocero saputo che ebbe il suo arrivo, e vedutolo, gli andò incontro con festa,

Y levantóse su marido, y siguióla, para hablarle amorosamente y volverla, llevando consigo un criado suyo y un par de asnos; y ella le metió en la casa de su padre.

And her husband arose, and went after her, to speak friendly unto her, and to bring her again, having his servant with him, and a couple of asses: and she brought him into her father’s house: and when the father of the damsel saw him, he rejoiced to meet him.

E abbracciollo. E il genero stette in casa del suocero tre giorni, mangiando e bevendo con lui familiarmente.

Y viéndole el padre de la moza, salióle á recibir gozoso; y detúvole su suegro, padre de la moza, y quedó en su casa tres días, comiendo y bebiendo, y reposando allí.

And his father in law, the damsel’s father, retained him; and he abode with him three days: so they did eat and drink, and lodged there.

His father-in-law, the young lady’s father, kept him there; and he stayed with him three days. So they ate and drank, and stayed there.

E il quarto giorno alzatosi che era ancor notte, volea partire; ma il suocero lo trattenne, e gli disse: Assaggia prima un po' di pane, e fortificati lo stomaco, e poi anderai.

Y al cuarto día, como se levantaron de mañana, levantóse también el Levita para irse, y el padre de la moza dijo á su yerno: Conforta tu corazón con un bocado de pan, y después os iréis.

And it came to pass on the fourth day, when they arose early in the morning, that he rose up to depart: and the damsel’s father said unto his son in law, Comfort thine heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward go your way.

On the fourth day, they got up early in the morning, and he rose up to depart. The young lady’s father said to his son-in-law, “Strengthen your heart with a morsel of bread, and afterward you shall go your way.”

E si posero insieme a sedere, e mangiarono e bevvero. E il padre della donna disse a suo genero: Di grazia per oggi sta qui, e facciamo allegria insieme.

Y sentáronse ellos dos juntos, y comieron y bebieron. Y el padre de la moza dijo al varón: Yo te ruego que te quieras quedar aquí esta noche, y alegraráse tu corazón.

And they sat down, and did eat and drink both of them together: for the damsel’s father had said unto the man, Be content, I pray thee, and tarry all night, and let thine heart be merry.

So they sat down, ate, and drank, both of them together. Then the young lady’s father said to the man, “Please be pleased to stay all night, and let your heart be merry.”

Ma quegli alzatosi volea andarsene. E nulladimeno il suocero gli fece violenza, e lo fece restare in sua casa.

Y levantándose el varón para irse, el suegro le constriñó á que tornase y tuviese allí la noche.

And when the man rose up to depart, his father in law urged him: therefore he lodged there again.

The man rose up to depart; but his father-in-law urged him, and he stayed there again.

Venuta poi la mattina, il Levita si pose in ordine per partire. E di nuovo il suocero: Di grazia prendi, gli disse, un po' di cibo, e ristorate le forze sino tanto che il giorno cresca, poscia te n'andrai. Mangiarono adunque insieme:

Y al quinto día levantándose de mañana para irse, díjole el padre de la moza: Conforta ahora tu corazón. Y habiendo comido ambos á dos, detuviéronse hasta que ya declinaba el día.

And he arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart: and the damsel’s father said, Comfort thine heart, I pray thee. And they tarried until afternoon, and they did eat both of them.

He arose early in the morning on the fifth day to depart; and the young lady’s father said, “Please strengthen your heart and stay until the day declines;” and they both ate.

E il giovane si alzò per partire colla sua moglie, e col servo, Ma il suocero di nuovo gli disse: Rifletti che il dì s'avanza, e si avvicina la sera: rimanti ancora quest'oggi meco, passa il dì allegramente, e domani partirai per andare a casa tua.

Levantóse luego el varón para irse, él, y su concubina, y su criado. Entonces su suegro, el padre de la moza, le dijo: He aquí el día declina para ponerse el sol, ruégote que os estéis aquí la noche; he aquí que el día se acaba, ten aquí la noche, para que se alegre tu corazón; y mañana os levantaréis temprano á vuestro camino, y llegarás á tus tiendas.

And when the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father in law, the damsel’s father, said unto him, Behold, now the day draweth toward evening, I pray you tarry all night: behold, the day groweth to an end, lodge here, that thine heart may be merry; and to morrow get you early on your way, that thou mayest go home.

When the man rose up to depart, he, and his concubine, and his servant, his father-in-law, the young lady’s father, said to him, “Behold, now the day draws toward evening, please stay all night. Behold, the day is ending. Stay here, that your heart may be merry; and tomorrow go on your way early, that you may go home.”

Non volle il genero piegarsi alle sue parole; ma tosto se n'andò, e giunse dirimpetto a Jebus, la quale con altro nome è chiamata Gerusalemme, conducendo seco due asini carichi, e la donna:

Mas el hombre no quiso quedar allí la noche, sino que se levantó y partió, y llegó hasta enfrente de Jebus, que es Jerusalem, con su par de asnos aparejados, y con su concubina.

But the man would not tarry that night, but he rose up and departed, and came over against Jebus, which is Jerusalem; and there were with him two asses saddled, his concubine also was with him.

But the man wouldn’t stay that night, but he rose up and went near Jebus (also called Jerusalem). With him were a couple of saddled donkeys. His concubine also was with him.

E già erano vicini a Jebus, e il dì faceva luogo alla notte: e il servo disse al suo padrone: Vieni di grazia, pigliam la strada della città delli Jebusei, e ivi fermiamoci.

Y estando ya junto á Jebus, el día había declinado mucho: y dijo el criado á su señor: Ven ahora, y vámonos á esta ciudad de los Jebuseos, para que tengamos en ella la noche.

And when they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said unto his master, Come, I pray thee, and let us turn in into this city of the Jebusites, and lodge in it.

When they were by Jebus, the day was far spent; and the servant said to his master, “Please come and let’s enter into this city of the Jebusites, and stay in it.”

Il padrone gli rispose: Io non entrerò in una città di gente estrania che non è de' figliuoli d'Israele, ma anderò fino a Gabaa:

Y su señor le respondió: No iremos á ninguna ciudad de extranjeros, que no sea de los hijos de Israel: antes pasaremos hasta Gabaa. Y dijo á su criado:

And his master said unto him, We will not turn aside hither into the city of a stranger, that is not of the children of Israel; we will pass over to Gibeah.

His master said to him, “We won’t enter into the city of a foreigner that is not of the children of Israel; but we will pass over to Gibeah.”

E arrivato ch'io sia colà ivi resteremo, o per lo meno nella città di Rama.

Ven, lleguemos á uno de esos lugares, para tener la noche en Gabaa, ó en Rama.

And he said unto his servant, Come, and let us draw near to one of these places to lodge all night, in Gibeah, or in Ramah.

He said to his servant, “Come and let’s draw near to one of these places; and we will lodge in Gibeah, or in Ramah.”

Trapassarono adunque Jebus, e continuavano il viaggio incominciato, e il sol tramontò loro vicino a Gabaa, che è nella tribù di Beniamin:

Pasando pues, caminaron, y púsoseles el sol junto á Gabaa, que era de Benjamín.

And they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down upon them when they were by Gibeah, which belongeth to Benjamin.

So they passed on and went their way; and the sun went down on them near Gibeah, which belongs to Benjamin.

E vi entrarono per fermarvisi. E quando furono dentro, si posero a seder sulla piazza della città, ma nissuno volle albergarli.

Y apartáronse del camino para entrar á tener allí la noche en Gabaa; y entrando, sentáronse en la plaza de la ciudad, porque no hubo quien los acogiese en casa para pasar la noche.

And they turned aside thither, to go in and to lodge in Gibeah: and when he went in, he sat him down in a street of the city: for there was no man that took them into his house to lodging.

They went over there, to go in to stay in Gibeah. He went in, and sat down in the street of the city; for there was no one who took them into his house to stay.

Quand'ecco comparve un vecchio uomo che tornava dal campo, e dal suo lavoro sul tardi, che era egli pure della montagna di Ephraim, e abitava forestiero in Gabaa: ora gli uomini di quel paese eran figliuoli di Jemini.

Y he aquí un hombre viejo, que á la tarde venía del campo de trabajar; el cual era del monte de Ephraim, y moraba como peregrino en Gabaa, pero los moradores de aquel lugar eran hijos de Benjamín.

And, behold, there came an old man from his work out of the field at even, which was also of mount Ephraim; and he sojourned in Gibeah: but the men of the place were Benjamites.

Behold, an old man came from his work out of the field at evening. Now the man was from the hill country of Ephraim, and he lived in Gibeah; but the men of the place were Benjamites.

E alzati gli occhi il vecchio vide l'uomo fermo col suo piccolo bagaglio nella piazza della città, e dissegli: Donde vieni? e dove vai?

Y alzando el viejo los ojos, vió á aquel viajante en la plaza de la ciudad, y díjole: ¿A dónde vas, y de dónde vienes?

And when he had lifted up his eyes, he saw a wayfaring man in the street of the city: and the old man said, Whither goest thou? and whence comest thou?

He lifted up his eyes, and saw the wayfaring man in the street of the city; and the old man said, “Where are you going? Where did you come from?”

E quegli rispose a lui: Siamo partiti da Bethlehem di Giuda, e andiamo a casa nostra, la quale è accanto al monte Ephraim, donde eravamo andati a Bethlehem, e ora andiamo alla casa di Dio, e nissuno vuol darci ricetto sotto il suo tetto,

Y él respondió: Pasamos de Beth-lehem de Judá á los lados del monte de Ephraim, de donde yo soy; y partí hasta Beth-lehem de Judá; y voy á la casa de Jehová, y no hay quien me reciba en casa,

And he said unto him, We are passing from Beth-lehem-judah toward the side of mount Ephraim; from thence am I: and I went to Beth-lehem-judah, but I am now going to the house of the LORD; and there is no man that receiveth me to house.

He said to him, “We are passing from Bethlehem Judah to the farther side of the hill country of Ephraim. I am from there, and I went to Bethlehem Judah. I am going to the LORD’s house; and there is no one who has taken me into his house.

Avendo noi paglia, e fieno pegli asini, e pane, e vino pel bisogno mio, e della tua serva, e del garzone che è meco: non abbiamo bisogno d'altro che di ricovero.

Aunque nosotros tenemos paja y de comer para nuestros asnos, y también tenemos pan y vino para mí y para tu sierva, y para el criado que está con tu siervo; de nada tenemos falta.

Yet there is both straw and provender for our asses; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for thy handmaid, and for the young man which is with thy servants: there is no want of any thing.

Yet there is both straw and feed for our donkeys; and there is bread and wine also for me, and for your servant, and for the young man who is with your servants. There is no lack of anything.”

Risposegli il vecchio: Pace sia a te; io ti somministrerò tutto il necessario: solo ti prego di non istar sulla piazza.

Y el hombre viejo dijo: Paz sea contigo; tu necesidad toda sea solamente á mi cargo, con tal que no tengas la noche en la plaza.

And the old man said, Peace be with thee; howsoever let all thy wants lie upon me; only lodge not in the street.

The old man said, “Peace be to you! Just let me supply all your needs, but don’t sleep in the street.”

E li menò in casa sua, e diede da mangiare agli asini: e lavati che ebbero i loro piedi fece loro un banchetto.

Y metiéndolos en su casa, dió de comer á sus asnos; y ellos se lavaron los pies, y comieron y bebieron.

So he brought him into his house, and gave provender unto the asses: and they washed their feet, and did eat and drink.

Nel tempo che essi cenavano, e dopo la fatica del viaggio ristoravan col cibo, e colla bevanda i corpi loro, arrivarono degli uomini di quella città, figliuoli di Belial (vale a dire senza giogo), e circondata la casa del vecchio principiarono a picchiare gridando, e dicendo al padrone di casa: Conduci fuora quell'uomo, che vogliamo abusarne.

Y cuando estaban gozosos, he aquí, que los hombres de aquella ciudad, hombres hijos de Belial, cercan la casa, y batían las puertas, diciendo al hombre viejo dueño de la casa: Saca fuera el hombre que ha entrado en tu casa, para que lo conozcamos.

Now as they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain sons of Belial, beset the house round about, and beat at the door, and spake to the master of the house, the old man, saying, Bring forth the man that came into thine house, that we may know him.

As they were making their hearts merry, behold, the men of the city, certain wicked fellows, surrounded the house, beating at the door; and they spoke to the master of the house, the old man, saying, “Bring out the man who came into your house, that we can have sex with him!”

E il vecchio uscì fuora a trovarli, e disse: Non vogliate, fratelli, non vogliate far questo male, perocché quest'uomo è venuto da me in ospizio: guardatevi da tanta stoltezza.

Y saliendo á ellos aquel varón, amo de la casa, díjoles: No, hermanos míos, ruégoos que no cometáis este mal, pues que este hombre ha entrado en mi casa, no hagáis esta maldad.

And the man, the master of the house, went out unto them, and said unto them, Nay, my brethren, nay, I pray you, do not so wickedly; seeing that this man is come into mine house, do not this folly.

The man, the master of the house, went out to them, and said to them, “No, my brothers, please don’t act so wickedly; since this man has come into my house, don’t do this folly.

Io ho una figliuola vergine, e quest'uomo ha la sua concubina; le condurrò a voi, e voi servitevene, e saziate la vostra libidine: di questo solo vi prego, che non commettiate con un uomo una scelleraggine contraria alla natura.

He aquí mi hija virgen, y la concubina de él: yo os las sacaré ahora; humilladlas, y haced con ellas como os pareciere, y no hagáis á este hombre cosa tan infame.

Behold, here is my daughter a maiden, and his concubine; them I will bring out now, and humble ye them, and do with them what seemeth good unto you: but unto this man do not so vile a thing.

Behold, here is my virgin daughter and his concubine. I will bring them out now. Humble them, and do with them what seems good to you; but to this man don’t do any such folly.”

Non volevano quegli rendersi alle sue parole: lo che vedendo quell'uomo (Levita) trasse lor fuora la sua concubina, e l'abbandonò a' loro scherni: ed eglino dopo averla straziata tutta la notte, la rimandarono di gran mattino.

Mas aquellos hombres no le quisieron oir; por lo que tomando aquel hombre su concubina, sacósela fuera: y ellos la conocieron, y abusaron de ella toda la noche hasta la mañana, y dejáronla cuando apuntaba el alba.

But the men would not hearken to him: so the man took his concubine, and brought her forth unto them; and they knew her, and abused her all the night until the morning: and when the day began to spring, they let her go.

But the men wouldn’t listen to him; so the man grabbed his concubine, and brought her out to them; and they had sex with her, and abused her all night until the morning. When the day began to dawn, they let her go.

Ma la donna, dileguandosi già le tenebre, andò fino alla porta della casa, dove stava il suo signore, e ivi cadde per terra.

Y ya que amanecía, la mujer vino, y cayó delante de la puerta de la casa de aquel hombre donde su señor estaba, hasta que fué de día.

Then came the woman in the dawning of the day, and fell down at the door of the man’s house where her lord was, till it was light.

Fattosi giorno si levò il marito, e aperse la porta per continuare il suo viaggio; ed ecco vede la sua concubina giacente dinanzi alla porta, colle mani distese sopra la soglia.

Y levantándose de mañana su señor, abrió las puertas de la casa, y salió para ir su camino, y he aquí, la mujer su concubina estaba tendida delante de la puerta de la casa, con las manos sobre el umbral.

Ed egli credendola addormentata, le diceva: Alzati, e andiamcene. Ma non rispondendo ella niente, comprese come era morta, e la prese, e la mise sull'asino, e tornossene a casa sua.

Y él le dijo: Levántate, y vámonos. Mas ella no respondió. Entonces la levantó el varón, y echándola sobre su asno, levantóse y fuése á su lugar.

And he said unto her, Up, and let us be going. But none answered. Then the man took her up upon an ass, and the man rose up, and gat him unto his place.

He said to her, “Get up, and let’s get going!” but no one answered. Then he took her up on the donkey; and the man rose up, and went to his place.

E appena vi fu entrato prese un coltello, e il cadavere della donna colle sue ossa divise in dodici parti, e mandolle per tutte le regioni d'Israele.

Y en llegando á su casa, toma un cuchillo, y echa mano de su concubina, y despedázala con sus huesos en doce partes, y enviólas por todos los términos de Israel.

And when he was come into his house, he took a knife, and laid hold on his concubine, and divided her, together with her bones, into twelve pieces, and sent her into all the coasts of Israel.

E a tale spettacolo esclamavano ad uno ad uno: Non è mai avvenuta cosa simile in Israele da quel giorno, in cui i padri nostri uscirono dall'Egitto fino al presente: ponderate il fatto, e per comun consiglio determinate quello che sia da farsi. Combattendo per vendicare tale scelleraggine tutte le altre tribù contro Beniamin, restano al di sotto per una, e per due volte: ma alla terza venute alle mani per ordine del Signore, sterminano del tutto quella tribù, toltine secento uomini, che fuggirono nella solitudine.

Y todo el que lo veía, decía: Jamás se ha hecho ni visto tal cosa, desde el tiempo que los hijos de Israel subieron de la tierra de Egipto hasta hoy. Considerad esto, dad consejo, y hablad.

And it was so, that all that saw it said, There was no such deed done nor seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt unto this day: consider of it, take advice, and speak your minds.

It was so, that all who saw it said, “Such a deed has not been done or seen from the day that the children of Israel came up out of the land of Egypt to this day! Consider it, take counsel, and speak.”
