1NACH einiger Zeit aber, in den Tagen der Weizenernte, besuchte Simson sein Weib mit einem Ziegenböcklein und sprach: Ich möchte zu meinem Weibe in die Kammer gehen. Doch ihr Vater liess ihn nicht hinein.
2Und ihr Vater sprach: Ich dachte nichts andres, als du seiest ihr gram geworden, da gab ich sie halt deinem Brautführer. Doch ist ja ihre jüngere Schwester noch schöner als sie; die sei dein an ihrer Statt!
3Da sprach Simson zu ihnen: Diesmal trifft mich keine Schuld, wenn ich den Philistern übel mitspiele.
4Und Simson ging hin und fing dreihundert Füchse; dann nahm er Fackeln, kehrte Schwanz gegen Schwanz und tat zwischen je zwei Schwänze eine Fackel.
5Hierauf zündete er die Fackeln an und jagte (die Füchse) in die Kornfelder der Philister und steckte dadurch Garben sowohl als stehendes Korn in Brand, auch Weinberge und Ölgärten.
6Da sprachen die Philister: Wer hat das getan? Und es hiess: Simson, der Tochtermann des Thimniters, weil der ihm sein Weib genommen und sie seinem Brautführer gegeben hat. Da zogen die Philister hinauf und verbrannten sie samt den Ihrigen.
7Simson aber sprach zu ihnen: Wenn ihr solches tut, fürwahr, so werde ich nicht eher ruhen, als bis ich mich an euch gerächt habe.
8Und er hieb sie gründlich zusammen und richtete ein Blutbad unter ihnen an. Dann zog er hinab und wohnte in der Felsenkluft von Etam.
9Da zogen die Philister hinauf, lagerten sich in Juda und breiteten sich aus bei Lehi.
10Die Männer von Juda aber sprachen: Warum seid ihr gegen uns heraufgezogen? Sie antworteten: Simson zu binden, sind wir heraufgekommen, um ihm zu tun, wie er uns getan hat.
11Da zogen dreitausend Mann aus Juda hinab zur Felsenkluft von Etam und sprachen zu Simson: Weisst du nicht, dass die Philister über uns herrschen? Was hast du uns da angerichtet? Er antwortete ihnen: Wie sie mir getan haben, so habe ich ihnen getan.
12Nun sprachen sie zu ihm: Dich zu binden, sind wir herabgekommen, um dich den Philistern auszuliefern. Und Simson erwiderte ihnen: So leistet mir einen Schwur - damit ihr mich nicht selbst erschlagt.
13Sie antworteten ihm: Nein, wir wollen dich nur binden und dich ihnen ausliefern, aber töten wollen wir dich nicht. Und sie banden ihn mit zwei neuen Stricken und führten ihn von dem Felsen hinauf.
14Schon war er bis Lehi gekommen, und schon liefen die Philister mit Triumphgeschrei auf ihn zu, da kam der Geist des Herrn über ihn, und die Stricke an seinen Armen wurden wie vom Feuer versengte Fäden, und die Bande zergingen ihm an den Händen.
15Und er fand einen frischen Eselskinnbacken; da streckte er seine Hand aus, ergriff ihn und erschlug damit tausend Mann.
16Und Simson sprach: Mit dem Eselsbacken hab' ich tüchtig sie geschunden, / mit dem Eselsbacken schlug ich tausend Mann.
17Und als er ausgeredet hatte, warf er den Kinnbacken weg. Daher nannte man jenen Ort Ramath-Lehi. (1) d.i. Kinnbacken-Höhe.
18Da ihn aber sehr dürstete, rief er den Herrn an und sprach: Du hast durch die Hand deines Knechtes diesen grossen Sieg verliehen, und nun soll ich vor Durst sterben und in die Hand der Unbeschnittenen fallen?
19Da spaltete Gott die Höhlung im "Kinnbacken", sodass Wasser daraus hervorquoll; und als er getrunken hatte, kehrten seine Lebensgeister zurück, und er lebte wieder auf. Darum nennt man sie bis auf den heutigen Tag "Quelle des Rufers bei Lehi".
20Und er richtete Israel in den Tagen der Philister zwanzig Jahre lang.

1Y ACONTECIÓ después de días, que en el tiempo de la siega del trigo, Samsón visitó á su mujer con un cabrito, diciendo: Entraré á mi mujer á la cámara. Mas el padre de ella no lo dejó entrar.
2Y dijo el padre de ella: Persuadíme que la aborrecías, y díla á tu compañero. Mas su hermana menor, ¿no es más hermosa que ella? tómala, pues, en su lugar.
3Y Samsón les respondió: Yo seré sin culpa esta vez para con los Filisteos, si mal les hiciere.
4Y fué Samsón y cogió trescientas zorras, y tomando teas, y trabando aquéllas por las colas, puso entre cada dos colas una tea.
5Después, encendiendo las teas, echó las zorras en los sembrados de los Filisteos, y quemó hacinas y mieses, y viñas y olivares.
6Y dijeron los Filisteos: ¿Quién hizo esto? Y fuéles dicho: Samsón, el yerno del Timnateo, porque le quitó su mujer y la dió á su compañero. Y vinieron los Filisteos, y quemaron á fuego á ella y á su padre.
7Entonces Samsón les dijo: ¿Así lo habíais de hacer? mas yo me vengaré de vosotros, y después cesaré.
8E hiriólos pierna y muslo con gran mortandad; y descendió, y fijóse en la cueva de la peña de Etam.
9Y los Filisteos subieron y pusieron campo en Judá, y tendiéronse por Lehi.
10Y los varones de Judá les dijeron: ¿Por qué habéis subido contra nosotros? Y ellos respondieron: A prender á Samsón hemos subido, para hacerle como él nos ha hecho.
11Y vinieron tres mil hombres de Judá á la cueva de la peña de Etam, y dijeron á Samsón: ¿No sabes tú que los Filisteos dominan sobre nosotros? ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Y él les respondió: Yo les he hecho como ellos me hicieron.
12Ellos entonces le dijeron: Nosotros hemos venido para prenderte, y entregarte en mano de los Filisteos. Y Samsón les respondió: Juradme que vosotros no me mataréis.
13Y ellos le respondieron, diciendo: No, solamente te prenderemos, y te entregaremos en sus manos; mas no te mataremos. Entonces le ataron con dos cuerdas nuevas, é hiciéronle venir de la peña.
14Y así que vino hasta Lehi, los Filisteos le salieron á recibir con algazara: y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y las cuerdas que estaban en sus brazos se tornaron como lino quemado con fuego, y las ataduras se cayeron de sus manos.
15Y hallando una quijada de asno fresca, extendió la mano y tomóla, é hirió con ella á mil hombres.
16Entonces Samsón dijo: con la quijada de un asno, un montón, dos montones; con la quijada de un asno herí mil hombres.
17Y acabando de hablar, echó de su mano la quijada, y llamó á aquel lugar Ramath-lehi.
18Y teniendo gran sed, clamó luego á Jehová, y dijo: Tú has dado esta gran salud por mano de tu siervo: ¿y moriré yo ahora de sed, y caeré en mano de los incircuncisos?
19Entonces quebró Dios una muela que estaba en la quijada, y salieron de allí aguas, y bebió, y recobró su espíritu, y reanimóse. Por tanto llamó su nombre de aquel lugar, En-haccore, el cual es en Lehi, hasta hoy.
20Y juzgó á Israel en días de los Filisteos veinte años.

1But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
2And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
3And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
4And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.
5And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
6Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
7And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.
8And he smote them hip and thigh with a great slaughter: and he went down and dwelt in the top of the rock Etam.
9Then the Philistines went up, and pitched in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
10And the men of Judah said, Why are ye come up against us? And they answered, To bind Samson are we come up, to do to him as he hath done to us.
11Then three thousand men of Judah went to the top of the rock Etam, and said to Samson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines are rulers over us? what is this that thou hast done unto us? And he said unto them, As they did unto me, so have I done unto them.
12And they said unto him, We are come down to bind thee, that we may deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines. And Samson said unto them, Swear unto me, that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.
13And they spake unto him, saying, No; but we will bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand: but surely we will not kill thee. And they bound him with two new cords, and brought him up from the rock.
14And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
15And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
16And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
17And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi.
18And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
19But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.
20And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.
World English Bible
1But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a young goat. He said, “I will go in to my wife’s room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.
2Her father said, “I most certainly thought that you utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please, take her instead.”
3Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in the case of the Philistines when I harm them.”
4Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the middle between every two tails.
5When he had set the torches on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the olive groves.
6Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” They said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion.” The Philistines came up, and burned her and her father with fire.
7Samson said to them, “If you behave like this, surely I will take revenge on you, and after that I will cease.”
8He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and lived in the cave in Etam’s rock.
9Then the Philistines went up, encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
10The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”
11Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave in Etam’s rock, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so I have done to them.”
12They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.”
13They spoke to him, saying, “No, but we will bind you securely and deliver you into their hands; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.
14When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. Then the LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burned with fire; and his bands dropped from off his hands.
15He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, put out his hand, took it, and struck a thousand men with it.
16Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”
17When he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.
18He was very thirsty, and called on the LORD and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”
19But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out of it. When he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived. Therefore its name was called En Hakkore, which is in Lehi, to this day.
20He judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.
