1And it came to pass after a time, in the days of wheat harvest, that Sampson visited his wife with a kid, and said, I will go in to my wife even into the chamber: but her father did not suffer him to go in.
2And her father spoke, saying, I said that thou didst surely hate her, and I gave her to one of thy friends: is not her younger sister better than she? let her be to thee instead of her.
3And Sampson said to them, Even for once am I guiltless with regard to the Philistines, in that I do mischief among them.
4And Sampson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch between two tails, and fastened it.
5And he set fire to the torches, and sent the foxes into the corn of the Philistines; and every thing was burnt from the threshing floor to the standing corn, and even to the vineyard and Gr. olive olives.
6And the Philistines said, Who has done these things? and they said, Sampson the son-in-law of the Thamnite, because he has taken his wife, and given her to one of his friends; and the Philistines went up, and burnt her and her father’s house with fire.
7And Sampson said to them, Though ye may have dealt thus with her, verily I will be avenged of you, and afterwards I will cease.
8And he smote them leg on thigh with a great overthrow; and went down and dwelt in a cave of the rock Etam.
9And the Philistines went up, and encamped in Juda, and spread themselves abroad in Lechi.
10And the Gr. man men of Juda said, Why are ye come up against us? and the Philistines said, We are come up to bind Sampson, and to do to him as he has done to us.
11And the three thousand men of Juda went down to the hole of the rock Etam, and they said to Sampson, Knowest thou not that the Philistines rule over us? and what is this that thou hast done to us? and Sampson said to them, As they did to me, so have I done to them.
12And they said to him, We are come down to bind thee to deliver thee into the hand of the Philistines: and Sampson said to them, Swear to me that ye will not fall upon me yourselves.
13And they spoke to him, saying, Nay, but we will only bind thee fast, and deliver thee into their hand, and will by no means slay thee: and they bound him with two new ropes, and brought him from that rock.
14And they came to Gr. the Jaw Lechi: and the Philistines shouted, and ran to meet him: and the Spirit of the Lord came mightily upon him, and the ropes that were upon his arms became as tow which is burnt with fire; and his bonds were consumed from off his hands.
15And he found the jaw-bone of an ass that had been cast away, and he put forth his hand and took it, and smote with it a thousand men.
16And Sampson said, With the jaw-bone of an ass I have utterly destroyed them, for with the jaw-bone of an ass I have smitten a thousand men.
17And it came to pass when he ceased speaking, that he cast the jaw-bone out of his hand; and he called that place the This, though unusual, is possibly the meaning of anairesiv here Lifting of the jaw-bone.
18And he was very thirsty, and wept before the Lord, and said, Thou hast been well pleased to grant this great deliverance by the hand of thy servant, and knew shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
19And God broke open a hollow place in the jaw, and there came thence water, and he drank; and his spirit returned and he revived: therefore the name of Gr. it the fountain was called «The well of the invoker,’ which is in Lechi, until this day.
20And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.

1Y ACONTECIÓ después de días, que en el tiempo de la siega del trigo, Samsón visitó á su mujer con un cabrito, diciendo: Entraré á mi mujer á la cámara. Mas el padre de ella no lo dejó entrar.
2Y dijo el padre de ella: Persuadíme que la aborrecías, y díla á tu compañero. Mas su hermana menor, ¿no es más hermosa que ella? tómala, pues, en su lugar.
3Y Samsón les respondió: Yo seré sin culpa esta vez para con los Filisteos, si mal les hiciere.
4Y fué Samsón y cogió trescientas zorras, y tomando teas, y trabando aquéllas por las colas, puso entre cada dos colas una tea.
5Después, encendiendo las teas, echó las zorras en los sembrados de los Filisteos, y quemó hacinas y mieses, y viñas y olivares.
6Y dijeron los Filisteos: ¿Quién hizo esto? Y fuéles dicho: Samsón, el yerno del Timnateo, porque le quitó su mujer y la dió á su compañero. Y vinieron los Filisteos, y quemaron á fuego á ella y á su padre.
7Entonces Samsón les dijo: ¿Así lo habíais de hacer? mas yo me vengaré de vosotros, y después cesaré.
8E hiriólos pierna y muslo con gran mortandad; y descendió, y fijóse en la cueva de la peña de Etam.
9Y los Filisteos subieron y pusieron campo en Judá, y tendiéronse por Lehi.
10Y los varones de Judá les dijeron: ¿Por qué habéis subido contra nosotros? Y ellos respondieron: A prender á Samsón hemos subido, para hacerle como él nos ha hecho.
11Y vinieron tres mil hombres de Judá á la cueva de la peña de Etam, y dijeron á Samsón: ¿No sabes tú que los Filisteos dominan sobre nosotros? ¿por qué nos has hecho esto? Y él les respondió: Yo les he hecho como ellos me hicieron.
12Ellos entonces le dijeron: Nosotros hemos venido para prenderte, y entregarte en mano de los Filisteos. Y Samsón les respondió: Juradme que vosotros no me mataréis.
13Y ellos le respondieron, diciendo: No, solamente te prenderemos, y te entregaremos en sus manos; mas no te mataremos. Entonces le ataron con dos cuerdas nuevas, é hiciéronle venir de la peña.
14Y así que vino hasta Lehi, los Filisteos le salieron á recibir con algazara: y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y las cuerdas que estaban en sus brazos se tornaron como lino quemado con fuego, y las ataduras se cayeron de sus manos.
15Y hallando una quijada de asno fresca, extendió la mano y tomóla, é hirió con ella á mil hombres.
16Entonces Samsón dijo: con la quijada de un asno, un montón, dos montones; con la quijada de un asno herí mil hombres.
17Y acabando de hablar, echó de su mano la quijada, y llamó á aquel lugar Ramath-lehi.
18Y teniendo gran sed, clamó luego á Jehová, y dijo: Tú has dado esta gran salud por mano de tu siervo: ¿y moriré yo ahora de sed, y caeré en mano de los incircuncisos?
19Entonces quebró Dios una muela que estaba en la quijada, y salieron de allí aguas, y bebió, y recobró su espíritu, y reanimóse. Por tanto llamó su nombre de aquel lugar, En-haccore, el cual es en Lehi, hasta hoy.
20Y juzgó á Israel en días de los Filisteos veinte años.

1But it came to pass within a while after, in the time of wheat harvest, that Samson visited his wife with a kid; and he said, I will go in to my wife into the chamber. But her father would not suffer him to go in.
2And her father said, I verily thought that thou hadst utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to thy companion: is not her younger sister fairer than she? take her, I pray thee, instead of her.
3And Samson said concerning them, Now shall I be more blameless than the Philistines, though I do them a displeasure.
4And Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took firebrands, and turned tail to tail, and put a firebrand in the midst between two tails.
5And when he had set the brands on fire, he let them go into the standing corn of the Philistines, and burnt up both the shocks, and also the standing corn, with the vineyards and olives.
6Then the Philistines said, Who hath done this? And they answered, Samson, the son in law of the Timnite, because he had taken his wife, and given her to his companion. And the Philistines came up, and burnt her and her father with fire.
7And Samson said unto them, Though ye have done this, yet will I be avenged of you, and after that I will cease.

14And when he came unto Lehi, the Philistines shouted against him: and the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and the cords that were upon his arms became as flax that was burnt with fire, and his bands loosed from off his hands.
15And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
16And Samson said, With the jawbone of an ass, heaps upon heaps, with the jaw of an ass have I slain a thousand men.
17And it came to pass, when he had made an end of speaking, that he cast away the jawbone out of his hand, and called that place Ramath-lehi.
18And he was sore athirst, and called on the LORD, and said, Thou hast given this great deliverance into the hand of thy servant: and now shall I die for thirst, and fall into the hand of the uncircumcised?
19But God clave an hollow place that was in the jaw, and there came water thereout; and when he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived: wherefore he called the name thereof En-hakkore, which is in Lehi unto this day.
20And he judged Israel in the days of the Philistines twenty years.

1But after a while, in the time of wheat harvest, Samson visited his wife with a young goat. He said, “I will go in to my wife’s room.” But her father wouldn’t allow him to go in.
2Her father said, “I most certainly thought that you utterly hated her; therefore I gave her to your companion. Isn’t her younger sister more beautiful than she? Please, take her instead.”
3Samson said to them, “This time I will be blameless in the case of the Philistines when I harm them.”
4Samson went and caught three hundred foxes, and took torches, and turned tail to tail, and put a torch in the middle between every two tails.
5When he had set the torches on fire, he let them go into the standing grain of the Philistines, and burned up both the shocks and the standing grain, and also the olive groves.
6Then the Philistines said, “Who has done this?” They said, “Samson, the son-in-law of the Timnite, because he has taken his wife and given her to his companion.” The Philistines came up, and burned her and her father with fire.
7Samson said to them, “If you behave like this, surely I will take revenge on you, and after that I will cease.”
8He struck them hip and thigh with a great slaughter; and he went down and lived in the cave in Etam’s rock.
9Then the Philistines went up, encamped in Judah, and spread themselves in Lehi.
10The men of Judah said, “Why have you come up against us?” They said, “We have come up to bind Samson, to do to him as he has done to us.”
11Then three thousand men of Judah went down to the cave in Etam’s rock, and said to Samson, “Don’t you know that the Philistines are rulers over us? What then is this that you have done to us?” He said to them, “As they did to me, so I have done to them.”
12They said to him, “We have come down to bind you, that we may deliver you into the hand of the Philistines.” Samson said to them, “Swear to me that you will not attack me yourselves.”
13They spoke to him, saying, “No, but we will bind you securely and deliver you into their hands; but surely we will not kill you.” They bound him with two new ropes, and brought him up from the rock.
14When he came to Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they met him. Then the LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and the ropes that were on his arms became as flax that was burned with fire; and his bands dropped from off his hands.
15He found a fresh jawbone of a donkey, put out his hand, took it, and struck a thousand men with it.
16Samson said, “With the jawbone of a donkey, heaps on heaps; with the jawbone of a donkey I have struck a thousand men.”
17When he had finished speaking, he threw the jawbone out of his hand; and that place was called Ramath Lehi.
18He was very thirsty, and called on the LORD and said, “You have given this great deliverance by the hand of your servant; and now shall I die of thirst, and fall into the hands of the uncircumcised?”
19But God split the hollow place that is in Lehi, and water came out of it. When he had drunk, his spirit came again, and he revived. Therefore its name was called En Hakkore, which is in Lehi, to this day.
20He judged Israel twenty years in the days of the Philistines.
