1Und Simson ging hinab nach Thimnatha und sah in Thimnatha ein Weib unter den Töchtern der Philister;
2Und er kam herauf und sagte es seinem Vater und seiner Mutter an und sprach: Ich habe ein Weib gesehen in Thimnatha von den Töchtern der Philister, und nun nehmt sie mir zum Weibe.
3Und sein Vater und seine Mutter sprachen zu ihm: Ist denn unter den Töchtern deiner Brüder und unter all meinem Volk kein Weib, daß du hingehst und nimmst ein Weib von den unbeschnittenen Philistern? Und Simson sprach zu seinem Vater: Die nimm mir, denn sie ist recht im meinen Augen.
4Und sein Vater und seine Mutter wußten nicht, daß es von Jehovah war, daß er Gelegenheit suchte gegen die Philister. Und zu der Zeit herrschten die Philister über Israel.
5Und Simson ging mit seinem Vater und seiner Mutter hinab nach Thimnatha; und sie kamen an die Weinberge von Thimnatha, und siehe, ein junger Löwe brüllte ihm entgegen.
6Und der Geist Jehovahs fuhr in ihn und er zerriß denselben, wie man ein Böcklein zerreißt, und doch hatte er gar nichts in seiner Hand. Und er sagte seinem Vater und seiner Mutter nicht an, was er getan hatte.
7Und er ging hinab und redete zu dem Weibe und sie war recht in Simsons Augen.
8Und er kam zurück nach einigen Tagen, um sie zu nehmen; und er lenkte ab, um nach dem Aas des Löwen zu sehen, und siehe, ein Schwarm Bienen war in dem Leib des Löwen, und Honig.
9Und er nahm diesen heraus in seine Hände, und ging und aß davon, während er hinging, und ging zu seinem Vater und seiner Mutter, und er gab ihnen, und sie aßen; er sagte ihnen aber nicht, daß er aus des Löwen Leib den Honig herausgenommen hatte.
10Und sein Vater ging hinab zu dem Weibe, und Simson machte daselbst ein Gastmahl, denn so machten es die Jünglinge.
11Und es geschah, da sie ihn sahen, nahmen sie dreißig Genossen, die bei ihm sein sollten.
12Und Simson sprach zu ihnen: Ich will euch ein Rätsel raten lassen, und wenn ihr es mir während der sieben Tage des Gastmahls ansagt und ausfindet, so gebe ich euch dreißig Hemden und dreißig Feierkleider.
13Und könnt ihr es mir nicht ansagen, so gebt ihr mir dreißig Hemden und dreißig Feierkleider. Und sie sagten zu ihm: Laß raten dein Rätsel, daß wir es hören.
14Und er sprach zu ihnen: Von dem Esser ging aus Speise, und Süßes ging aus von dem Starken. Und sie konnten in drei Tagen das Rätsel nicht ansagen.
15Und es geschah am siebenten Tage, daß sie sprachen zu Simsons Weib: Berede deinen Mann, daß er uns das Rätsel ansage; sonst verbrennen wir dich und deines Vaters Haus mit Feuer. Habt ihr uns hierher gerufen, um uns arm zu machen oder nicht?
16Und das Weib Simsons weinte bei ihm und sprach: Fürwahr, du hassest mich und hast mich nicht lieb. Du läßt die Söhne meines Volkes das Rätsel raten, und mir sagst du es nicht an. Und er sprach zu ihr: Siehe, meinem Vater und meiner Mutter habe ich es nicht angesagt. Und dir sollt ich es ansagen?
17Und sie weinte bei ihm sieben Tage, solange sie das Gastmahl hatten. Und es geschah, am siebenten Tage sagte er es ihr an, weil sie ihn beengte; und sie sagte das Rätsel den Söhnen ihres Volkes an.
18Und die Männer der Stadt sprachen zu ihm am siebenten Tage, bevor die Sonne unterging: Was ist süßer als Honig und was stärker als der Löwe? Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Hättet ihr nicht mit meiner Färse gepflügt, ihr hättet mein Rätsel nicht ausgefunden.
19Und der Geist Jehovahs fuhr in ihn, und er ging hinab nach Aschkelon, und erschlug ihrer dreißig Männer, und er nahm, was er ihnen auszog und gab die Feierkleider denen, die das Rätsel angesagt. Und sein Zorn entbrannte, und er ging hinauf in seines Vaters Haus.
20Und Simsons Weib ward seinem Freunde, der sein Genosse war.

1Y DESCENDIENDO Samsón á Timnah, vió en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos.
2Y subió, y declarólo á su padre y á su madre, diciendo: Yo he visto en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos: ruégoos que me la toméis por mujer.
3Y su padre y su madre le dijeron: ¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus hermanos, ni en todo mi pueblo, para que vayas tú á tomar mujer de los Filisteos incircuncisos? Y Samsón respondió á su padre: Tómamela por mujer, porque ésta agradó á mis ojos.
4Mas su padre y su madre no sabían que esto venía de Jehová, y que él buscaba ocasión contra los Filisteos: porque en aquel tiempo los Filisteos dominaban sobre Israel.
5Y Samsón descendió con su padre y con su madre á Timnah: y como llegaron á las viñas de Timnah, he aquí un cachorro de león que venía bramando hacia él.
6Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y despedazólo como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en su mano: y no dió á entender á su padre ni á su madre lo que había hecho.
7Vino pues, y habló á la mujer que había agradado á Samsón.
8Y volviendo después de algunos días para tomarla, apartóse para ver el cuerpo muerto del león, y he aquí en el cuerpo del león un enjambre de abejas, y un panal de miel.
9Y tomándolo en sus manos, fuése comiéndolo por el camino: y llegado que hubo á su padre y á su madre, dióles también á ellos que comiesen; mas no les descubrió que había tomado aquella miel del cuerpo del león.
10Vino pues su padre á la mujer, y Samsón hizo allí banquete; porque así solían hacer los mancebos.
11Y como ellos le vieron, tomaron treinta compañeros que estuviesen con él;
12A los cuales Samsón dijo: Yo os propondré ahora un enigma, el cual si en los siete días del banquete vosotros me declarareis y descubriereis, yo os daré treinta sábanas y treinta mudas de vestidos.
13Mas si no me lo supiereis declarar, vosotros me daréis las treinta sábanas y las treinta mudas de vestidos. Y ellos respondieron: Propónnos tu enigma, y lo oiremos.
14Entonces les dijo: Del comedor salió comida, y del fuerte salió dulzura. Y ellos no pudieron declararle el enigma en tres días.
15Y al séptimo día dijeron á la mujer de Samsón: Induce á tu marido á que nos declare este enigma, porque no te quememos á ti y á la casa de tu padre. ¿Habéisnos llamado aquí para poseernos?
16Y lloró la mujer de Samsón delante de él, y dijo: Solamente me aborreces y no me amas, pues que no me declaras el enigma que propusiste á los hijos de mi pueblo. Y él respondió: He aquí que ni á mi padre ni á mi madre lo he declarado; y ¿habíalo de declarar á ti?
17Y ella lloró delante de él los siete días que ellos tuvieron banquete: mas al séptimo día él se lo declaró, porque le constriñó; y ella lo declaró á los hijos de su pueblo.
18Y al séptimo día, antes que el sol se pusiese, los de la ciudad le dijeron: ¿Qué cosa más dulce que la miel? ¿y qué cosa más fuerte que el león?
19Y él les respondió: Si no araseis con mi novilla, nunca hubierais descubierto mi enigma.
20Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y descendió á Ascalón, é hirió treinta hombres de ellos; y tomando sus despojos, dió las mudas de vestidos á los que habían explicado el enigma: y encendido en enojo fuése á casa de su padre. Y la mujer de Samsón fué dada á su compañero, con el cual él antes se acompañaba.

1And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
3Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
4But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

1Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.
2He came up, and told his father and his mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. Now therefore get her for me as my wife.”
3Then his father and his mother said to him, “Isn’t there a woman among your brothers’ daughters, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?” Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.”
4But his father and his mother didn’t know that it was of the LORD; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
5Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and his mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion roared at him.
6The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat with his bare hands, but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.
7He went down and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
8After a while he returned to take her, and he went over to see the carcass of the lion; and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.
9He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went. He came to his father and mother and gave to them, and they ate, but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the lion’s body.
10His father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men used to do so.
11When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12Samson said to them, “Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can tell me the answer within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;
13but if you can’t tell me the answer, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him, “Tell us your riddle, that we may hear it.”
14He said to them, “Out of the eater came out food. Out of the strong came out sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.
15On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”
16Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, “You just hate me, and don’t love me. You’ve told a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it to me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven’t told my father or my mother, so why should I tell you?”
17She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”
19The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck thirty men of them. He took their plunder, then gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his friend.
