1Und Simson ging nach Timnat hinab und sah daselbst ein Weib unter den Töchtern der Philister.
2Und als er wieder heraufkam, sagte er es seinem Vater und seiner Mutter und sprach: Ich habe ein Weib gesehen zu Timnat, unter den Töchtern der Philister; nehmt mir sie doch zum Weibe!
3Sein Vater und seine Mutter sprachen zu ihm: Ist denn kein Weib unter den Töchtern deiner Brüder oder unter meinem Volk, daß du hingehst und ein Weib nimmst bei den Philistern, die unbeschnitten sind? Simson sprach zu seinem Vater: Nimm mir diese, denn sie ist recht in meinen Augen!
4Aber sein Vater und seine Mutter wußten nicht, daß es von dem HERRN kam, und daß er gegenüber den Philistern einen Anlaß suchte. Die Philister herrschten nämlich zu jener Zeit über Israel.
5Also ging Simson mit seinem Vater und mit seiner Mutter gen Timnat hinab. Und als sie an die Weinberge bei Timnat kamen, siehe, da begegnete ihm ein junger brüllender Löwe!
6Da kam der Geist des HERRN über ihn, so daß er den Löwen zerriß, als ob er ein Böcklein zerrisse, und er hatte doch gar nichts in seiner Hand; er verriet aber seinem Vater und seiner Mutter nicht, was er getan hatte.
7Als er nun hinabkam, redete er mit dem Weibe, und sie war in Simsons Augen recht.
8Und nach etlichen Tagen kam er wieder, um sie zu nehmen, und trat aus dem Wege, um das Aas des Löwen zu besehen; und siehe, da war ein Bienenschwarm und Honig in dem Aas des Löwen.
9Und er nahm davon in seine Hand und aß davon unterwegs und ging zu seinem Vater und zu seiner Mutter und gab ihnen, und sie aßen auch. Er verriet ihnen aber nicht, daß er den Honig von dem Aas des Löwen genommen hatte.
10Und als sein Vater zu dem Weibe hinabkam, machte Simson daselbst ein Hochzeitsmahl; denn also pflegten die Jünglinge zu tun.
11Sobald sie ihn aber sahen, gaben sie ihm dreißig Gefährten, die bei ihm sein sollten.
12Zu diesen sagte Simson: Ich will euch doch ein Rätsel aufgeben; wenn ihr mir dasselbe erratet und löset innert der sieben Tage des Hochzeitsmahles, so will ich euch dreißig Hemden und dreißig Feierkleider geben.
13Könnt ihr es aber nicht erraten, so sollt ihr mir dreißig Hemden und dreißig Feierkleider geben. Und sie sprachen: Gib dein Rätsel auf, wir wollen es hören!
14Er sprach zu ihnen: «Speise ging aus von dem Fresser, und Süßigkeit ging aus von dem Starken.» Und sie konnten in drei Tagen das Rätsel nicht erraten.
15Am siebenten Tage sprachen sie zu Simsons Weib: Überrede deinen Mann, daß er uns dieses Rätsel verrate, sonst werden wir dich und deines Vaters Haus mit Feuer verbrennen! Habt ihr uns darum hierher geladen, um uns arm zu machen?
16Da weinte Simsons Weib vor ihm und sprach: Du bist mir nur gram und hast mich nicht lieb! Du hast den Kindern meines Volkes dieses Rätsel aufgegeben und hast es mir nicht verraten! Er aber sprach zu ihr: Siehe, ich habe es meinem Vater und meiner Mutter nicht verraten; und sollte es dir verraten?
17Sie weinte aber sieben Tage lang vor ihm, während sie das Hochzeitsmahl hielten; aber am siebenten Tage verriet er es ihr; denn sie nötigte ihn. Und sie verriet das Rätsel den Kindern ihres Volkes.
18Da sprachen die Männer der Stadt am siebenten Tage, ehe die Sonne unterging, zu ihm: Was ist süßer als Honig? Und wer ist stärker als der Löwe? Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Hättet ihr nicht mit meinem Rinde gepflügt, so hättet ihr mein Rätsel nicht erraten!
19Und der Geist des HERRN kam über ihn, und er ging hinab gen Askalon und erschlug dreißig Männer unter ihnen und nahm ihre Kleider und gab denen die Feierkleider, welche das Rätsel erraten hatten. Und weil sein Zorn entbrannt war, ging er hinauf in seines Vaters Haus.
20Aber das Weib Simsons ward einem seiner Gefährten gegeben, der ihm beigesellt gewesen war.

1Y DESCENDIENDO Samsón á Timnah, vió en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos.
2Y subió, y declarólo á su padre y á su madre, diciendo: Yo he visto en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos: ruégoos que me la toméis por mujer.
3Y su padre y su madre le dijeron: ¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus hermanos, ni en todo mi pueblo, para que vayas tú á tomar mujer de los Filisteos incircuncisos? Y Samsón respondió á su padre: Tómamela por mujer, porque ésta agradó á mis ojos.
4Mas su padre y su madre no sabían que esto venía de Jehová, y que él buscaba ocasión contra los Filisteos: porque en aquel tiempo los Filisteos dominaban sobre Israel.
5Y Samsón descendió con su padre y con su madre á Timnah: y como llegaron á las viñas de Timnah, he aquí un cachorro de león que venía bramando hacia él.
6Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y despedazólo como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en su mano: y no dió á entender á su padre ni á su madre lo que había hecho.
7Vino pues, y habló á la mujer que había agradado á Samsón.
8Y volviendo después de algunos días para tomarla, apartóse para ver el cuerpo muerto del león, y he aquí en el cuerpo del león un enjambre de abejas, y un panal de miel.
9Y tomándolo en sus manos, fuése comiéndolo por el camino: y llegado que hubo á su padre y á su madre, dióles también á ellos que comiesen; mas no les descubrió que había tomado aquella miel del cuerpo del león.
10Vino pues su padre á la mujer, y Samsón hizo allí banquete; porque así solían hacer los mancebos.
11Y como ellos le vieron, tomaron treinta compañeros que estuviesen con él;
12A los cuales Samsón dijo: Yo os propondré ahora un enigma, el cual si en los siete días del banquete vosotros me declarareis y descubriereis, yo os daré treinta sábanas y treinta mudas de vestidos.
13Mas si no me lo supiereis declarar, vosotros me daréis las treinta sábanas y las treinta mudas de vestidos. Y ellos respondieron: Propónnos tu enigma, y lo oiremos.
14Entonces les dijo: Del comedor salió comida, y del fuerte salió dulzura. Y ellos no pudieron declararle el enigma en tres días.
15Y al séptimo día dijeron á la mujer de Samsón: Induce á tu marido á que nos declare este enigma, porque no te quememos á ti y á la casa de tu padre. ¿Habéisnos llamado aquí para poseernos?
16Y lloró la mujer de Samsón delante de él, y dijo: Solamente me aborreces y no me amas, pues que no me declaras el enigma que propusiste á los hijos de mi pueblo. Y él respondió: He aquí que ni á mi padre ni á mi madre lo he declarado; y ¿habíalo de declarar á ti?
17Y ella lloró delante de él los siete días que ellos tuvieron banquete: mas al séptimo día él se lo declaró, porque le constriñó; y ella lo declaró á los hijos de su pueblo.
18Y al séptimo día, antes que el sol se pusiese, los de la ciudad le dijeron: ¿Qué cosa más dulce que la miel? ¿y qué cosa más fuerte que el león?
19Y él les respondió: Si no araseis con mi novilla, nunca hubierais descubierto mi enigma.
20Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y descendió á Ascalón, é hirió treinta hombres de ellos; y tomando sus despojos, dió las mudas de vestidos á los que habían explicado el enigma: y encendido en enojo fuése á casa de su padre. Y la mujer de Samsón fué dada á su compañero, con el cual él antes se acompañaba.

1And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
3Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
4But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

1Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.
2He came up, and told his father and his mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. Now therefore get her for me as my wife.”
3Then his father and his mother said to him, “Isn’t there a woman among your brothers’ daughters, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?” Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.”
4But his father and his mother didn’t know that it was of the LORD; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
5Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and his mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion roared at him.
6The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat with his bare hands, but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.
7He went down and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
8After a while he returned to take her, and he went over to see the carcass of the lion; and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.
9He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went. He came to his father and mother and gave to them, and they ate, but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the lion’s body.
10His father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men used to do so.
11When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12Samson said to them, “Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can tell me the answer within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;
13but if you can’t tell me the answer, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him, “Tell us your riddle, that we may hear it.”
14He said to them, “Out of the eater came out food. Out of the strong came out sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.
15On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”
16Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, “You just hate me, and don’t love me. You’ve told a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it to me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven’t told my father or my mother, so why should I tell you?”
17She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”
19The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck thirty men of them. He took their plunder, then gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his friend.
