1ging Simson nach Thimna hinab und lernte dort ein Mädchen unter den Töchtern der Philister kennen.
2Nach seiner Rückkehr erzählte er es seinen Eltern mit den Worten: »Ich habe in Thimna ein Mädchen unter den Töchtern der Philister kennengelernt: nehmt sie mir nun zur Frau!«
3Da erwiderten ihm seine Eltern: »Gibt’s denn unter den Töchtern deiner Stammesgenossen und in unserem ganzen Volke kein Weib mehr, daß du hingehen mußt, um dir eine Frau von den heidnischen Philistern zu holen?« Doch Simson erwiderte seinem Vater: »Diese nimm mir zur Frau! Denn gerade sie gefällt mir.«
4Seine Eltern wußten eben nicht, daß dies eine Fügung vom HERRN war, der nach einem Anlaß zum Vorgehen gegen die Philister suchte; denn damals waren die Philister Herren über Israel.
5So ging denn Simson mit seinen Eltern nach Thimna hinab, und als sie bei den Weinbergen von Thimna angelangt waren, trat ihm plötzlich ein junger Löwe brüllend in den Weg.
6Da kam der Geist des HERRN über ihn, so daß er den Löwen zerriß, wie man ein Böckchen zerreißt, ohne daß er irgend etwas in der Hand hatte; seinen Eltern erzählte er aber nichts von dem, was er getan hatte.
7Dann ging er (nach Thimna) hinab und besprach sich mit dem Mädchen; denn sie gefiel ihm wohl.
8Als er dann nach einiger Zeit wieder hinging, um Hochzeit mit ihr zu machen, und vom Wege abbog, um sich den toten Löwen noch einmal anzusehen, da befand sich im Körper des Löwen ein Bienenschwarm und Honig.
9Diesen nahm er heraus in seine hohlen Hände und aß im Weitergehen davon; und als er dann zu seinen Eltern gekommen war, gab er auch ihnen davon zu essen, ohne ihnen jedoch mitzuteilen, daß er den Honig aus dem Körper des toten Löwen herausgenommen hatte.
10Hierauf brachte sein Vater die Sache mit dem Mädchen in Ordnung, und Simson richtete daselbst ein Gelage her; denn so pflegten es die jungen Leute dort zu halten.
11Als sie ihn nun sahen, holten sie dreißig Brautgesellen herbei, die um ihn sein sollten.
12Zu diesen sagte Simson: »Ich will euch einmal ein Rätsel aufgeben! Wenn ihr es mir innerhalb der sieben Tage des Gelages erraten könnt und die Lösung findet, so gebe ich euch dreißig Unterkleider und dreißig Festgewänder;
13könnt ihr mir aber die Lösung nicht angeben, so müßt ihr mir dreißig Unterkleider und dreißig Festgewänder geben.« Sie antworteten: »Gib uns dein Rätsel auf, daß wir es hören!«
14Da sagte er zu ihnen: »Fraß kam aus dem Fresser, und Süßigkeit kam aus dem Starken.« Drei Tage lang waren sie nicht imstande, das Rätsel zu lösen;
15am vierten Tage aber sagten sie zu Simsons Frau: »Berede deinen Mann, daß er uns die Lösung des Rätsels angibt; sonst verbrennen wir dich samt deines Vaters Hause mit Feuer! Ihr habt uns wohl hierher eingeladen, um uns arm zu machen?«
16Da brach die Frau Simsons in Tränen vor ihm aus und sagte: »Nur Haß hegst du gegen mich, aber keine Liebe! Du hast meinen Landsleuten das Rätsel aufgegeben und mir die Lösung nicht mitgeteilt!« Da erwiderte er ihr: »Bedenke doch: meinen eigenen Eltern habe ich die Lösung nicht verraten und sollte sie dir angeben?«
17So weinte sie denn vor ihm die sieben Tage hindurch, solange sie das Gelage hielten; endlich am siebten Tage teilte er ihr die Lösung mit, weil sie ihm keine Ruhe ließ, sie aber verriet die Lösung ihren Landsleuten.
18Da sagten denn die Männer der Stadt am siebten Tage zu ihm, ehe die Sonne unterging: »Was ist süßer als Honig, und was ist stärker als ein Löwe?« Er antwortete ihnen: »Hättet ihr nicht mit meinem Rinde gepflügt, so hättet ihr mein Rätsel nicht erraten!«
19Da kam der Geist des HERRN über ihn, so daß er nach Askalon hinabging und dort dreißig Mann von ihnen erschlug; diesen nahm er alles ab, was sie an sich hatten, und gab die Festgewänder denen, die das Rätsel gelöst hatten; dann kehrte er voller Zorn in das Haus seines Vaters zurück.
20Simsons Frau aber wurde an einen von seinen Hochzeitsgenossen verheiratet, der sein Brautführer gewesen war.

1Y DESCENDIENDO Samsón á Timnah, vió en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos.
2Y subió, y declarólo á su padre y á su madre, diciendo: Yo he visto en Timnah una mujer de las hijas de los Filisteos: ruégoos que me la toméis por mujer.
3Y su padre y su madre le dijeron: ¿No hay mujer entre las hijas de tus hermanos, ni en todo mi pueblo, para que vayas tú á tomar mujer de los Filisteos incircuncisos? Y Samsón respondió á su padre: Tómamela por mujer, porque ésta agradó á mis ojos.
4Mas su padre y su madre no sabían que esto venía de Jehová, y que él buscaba ocasión contra los Filisteos: porque en aquel tiempo los Filisteos dominaban sobre Israel.
5Y Samsón descendió con su padre y con su madre á Timnah: y como llegaron á las viñas de Timnah, he aquí un cachorro de león que venía bramando hacia él.
6Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y despedazólo como quien despedaza un cabrito, sin tener nada en su mano: y no dió á entender á su padre ni á su madre lo que había hecho.
7Vino pues, y habló á la mujer que había agradado á Samsón.
8Y volviendo después de algunos días para tomarla, apartóse para ver el cuerpo muerto del león, y he aquí en el cuerpo del león un enjambre de abejas, y un panal de miel.
9Y tomándolo en sus manos, fuése comiéndolo por el camino: y llegado que hubo á su padre y á su madre, dióles también á ellos que comiesen; mas no les descubrió que había tomado aquella miel del cuerpo del león.
10Vino pues su padre á la mujer, y Samsón hizo allí banquete; porque así solían hacer los mancebos.
11Y como ellos le vieron, tomaron treinta compañeros que estuviesen con él;
12A los cuales Samsón dijo: Yo os propondré ahora un enigma, el cual si en los siete días del banquete vosotros me declarareis y descubriereis, yo os daré treinta sábanas y treinta mudas de vestidos.
13Mas si no me lo supiereis declarar, vosotros me daréis las treinta sábanas y las treinta mudas de vestidos. Y ellos respondieron: Propónnos tu enigma, y lo oiremos.
14Entonces les dijo: Del comedor salió comida, y del fuerte salió dulzura. Y ellos no pudieron declararle el enigma en tres días.
15Y al séptimo día dijeron á la mujer de Samsón: Induce á tu marido á que nos declare este enigma, porque no te quememos á ti y á la casa de tu padre. ¿Habéisnos llamado aquí para poseernos?
16Y lloró la mujer de Samsón delante de él, y dijo: Solamente me aborreces y no me amas, pues que no me declaras el enigma que propusiste á los hijos de mi pueblo. Y él respondió: He aquí que ni á mi padre ni á mi madre lo he declarado; y ¿habíalo de declarar á ti?
17Y ella lloró delante de él los siete días que ellos tuvieron banquete: mas al séptimo día él se lo declaró, porque le constriñó; y ella lo declaró á los hijos de su pueblo.
18Y al séptimo día, antes que el sol se pusiese, los de la ciudad le dijeron: ¿Qué cosa más dulce que la miel? ¿y qué cosa más fuerte que el león?
19Y él les respondió: Si no araseis con mi novilla, nunca hubierais descubierto mi enigma.
20Y el espíritu de Jehová cayó sobre él, y descendió á Ascalón, é hirió treinta hombres de ellos; y tomando sus despojos, dió las mudas de vestidos á los que habían explicado el enigma: y encendido en enojo fuése á casa de su padre. Y la mujer de Samsón fué dada á su compañero, con el cual él antes se acompañaba.

1And Samson went down to Timnath, and saw a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines.
2And he came up, and told his father and his mother, and said, I have seen a woman in Timnath of the daughters of the Philistines: now therefore get her for me to wife.
3Then his father and his mother said unto him, Is there never a woman among the daughters of thy brethren, or among all my people, that thou goest to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines? And Samson said unto his father, Get her for me; for she pleaseth me well.
4But his father and his mother knew not that it was of the LORD, that he sought an occasion against the Philistines: for at that time the Philistines had dominion over Israel.
5Then went Samson down, and his father and his mother, to Timnath, and came to the vineyards of Timnath: and, behold, a young lion roared against him.
6And the Spirit of the LORD came mightily upon him, and he rent him as he would have rent a kid, and he had nothing in his hand: but he told not his father or his mother what he had done.
7And he went down, and talked with the woman; and she pleased Samson well.
8And after a time he returned to take her, and he turned aside to see the carcase of the lion: and, behold, there was a swarm of bees and honey in the carcase of the lion.
9And he took thereof in his hands, and went on eating, and came to his father and mother, and he gave them, and they did eat: but he told not them that he had taken the honey out of the carcase of the lion.
10So his father went down unto the woman: and Samson made there a feast; for so used the young men to do.
11And it came to pass, when they saw him, that they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12And Samson said unto them, I will now put forth a riddle unto you: if ye can certainly declare it me within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty sheets and thirty change of garments:
13But if ye cannot declare it me, then shall ye give me thirty sheets and thirty change of garments. And they said unto him, Put forth thy riddle, that we may hear it.
14And he said unto them, Out of the eater came forth meat, and out of the strong came forth sweetness. And they could not in three days expound the riddle.
15And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they said unto Samson’s wife, Entice thy husband, that he may declare unto us the riddle, lest we burn thee and thy father’s house with fire: have ye called us to take that we have? is it not so?
16And Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, Thou dost but hate me, and lovest me not: thou hast put forth a riddle unto the children of my people, and hast not told it me. And he said unto her, Behold, I have not told it my father nor my mother, and shall I tell it thee?
17And she wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted: and it came to pass on the seventh day, that he told her, because she lay sore upon him: and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18And the men of the city said unto him on the seventh day before the sun went down, What is sweeter than honey? and what is stronger than a lion? And he said unto them, If ye had not plowed with my heifer, ye had not found out my riddle.
19And the Spirit of the LORD came upon him, and he went down to Ashkelon, and slew thirty men of them, and took their spoil, and gave change of garments unto them which expounded the riddle. And his anger was kindled, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, whom he had used as his friend.

1Samson went down to Timnah, and saw a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines.
2He came up, and told his father and his mother, saying, “I have seen a woman in Timnah of the daughters of the Philistines. Now therefore get her for me as my wife.”
3Then his father and his mother said to him, “Isn’t there a woman among your brothers’ daughters, or among all my people, that you go to take a wife of the uncircumcised Philistines?” Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she pleases me well.”
4But his father and his mother didn’t know that it was of the LORD; for he sought an occasion against the Philistines. Now at that time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
5Then Samson went down to Timnah with his father and his mother, and came to the vineyards of Timnah; and behold, a young lion roared at him.
6The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he tore him as he would have torn a young goat with his bare hands, but he didn’t tell his father or his mother what he had done.
7He went down and talked with the woman, and she pleased Samson well.
8After a while he returned to take her, and he went over to see the carcass of the lion; and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey.
9He took it into his hands, and went on, eating as he went. He came to his father and mother and gave to them, and they ate, but he didn’t tell them that he had taken the honey out of the lion’s body.
10His father went down to the woman; and Samson made a feast there, for the young men used to do so.
11When they saw him, they brought thirty companions to be with him.
12Samson said to them, “Let me tell you a riddle now. If you can tell me the answer within the seven days of the feast, and find it out, then I will give you thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing;
13but if you can’t tell me the answer, then you shall give me thirty linen garments and thirty changes of clothing.” They said to him, “Tell us your riddle, that we may hear it.”
14He said to them, “Out of the eater came out food. Out of the strong came out sweetness.” They couldn’t in three days declare the riddle.
15On the seventh day, they said to Samson’s wife, “Entice your husband, that he may declare to us the riddle, lest we burn you and your father’s house with fire. Have you called us to impoverish us? Isn’t that so?”
16Samson’s wife wept before him, and said, “You just hate me, and don’t love me. You’ve told a riddle to the children of my people, and haven’t told it to me.” He said to her, “Behold, I haven’t told my father or my mother, so why should I tell you?”
17She wept before him the seven days, while their feast lasted; and on the seventh day, he told her, because she pressed him severely; and she told the riddle to the children of her people.
18The men of the city said to him on the seventh day before the sun went down, “What is sweeter than honey? What is stronger than a lion?” He said to them, “If you hadn’t plowed with my heifer, you wouldn’t have found out my riddle.”
19The LORD’s Spirit came mightily on him, and he went down to Ashkelon and struck thirty men of them. He took their plunder, then gave the changes of clothing to those who declared the riddle. His anger burned, and he went up to his father’s house.
20But Samson’s wife was given to his companion, who had been his friend.
