Imperocché in molte cose tutti inciampiamo. Chi non inciampa nel discorrere: questi è un uomo perfetto, capace eziandio di regger con freno tutto quanto il corpo.
Porque todos ofendemos en muchas cosas. Si alguno no ofende en palabra, éste es varón perfecto, que también puede con freno gobernar todo el cuerpo.

Can the fig tree, my brethren, bear olive berries? either a vine, figs? so can no fountain both yield salt water and fresh.
Can a fig tree, my brothers, yield olives, or a vine figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh water.
Chi è saggio, e scienziato tra di voi? Faccia egli vedere mediate la buona vita le opere sue fatte con mansuetudine propria della saggezza.
¿Quién es sabio y avisado entre vosotros? muestre por buena conversación sus obras en mansedumbre de sabiduría.
Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom.

Che se avete uno zelo amaro, e delle dissensioni ne' vostri cuori: non vogliate gloriarvi, e mentire contro la verità.

Ma la sapienza di lassù primieramente è pura, di poi pacifica, modesta, arrendevole, fa a modo de' buoni, è piena di misericordia, e di buoni frutti, aliena dal criticare, e dalla ipocrisia:
