1Tiago, servo de Deus e do Senhor Jesus Cristo, ao povo de Deus espalhado entre as nações. Saudações!
2Meus irmãos, a vida de vocês está cheia de dificuldades e de provações? Então, considerem isto motivo de grande alegria,
3porque, quando a sua fé é provada, a perseverança de vocês tem uma oportunidade de crescer.
4Portanto, deixem a perseverança crescer, agindo plenamente em vocês. Porque, quando a perseverança de vocês estiver afinal plenamente crescida, vocês estarão preparados para qualquer coisa, e serão fortes de caráter, íntegros, sem que lhes falte coisa alguma.
5Se quiserem saber o que Deus quer que vocês façam, perguntem-lhe, e ele alegremente lhes dirá, pois está sempre pronto a dar uma farta provisão de sabedoria a todos os que lhe pedem.
6Mas, quando lhe pedirem, estejam certos de que vocês realmente esperam que ele lhes diga, pois uma mente duvidosa é tão inconstante como uma onda do mar que é empurrada e agitada pelo vento.
7Quando pedirem sem fé, não esperem que o Senhor lhes dê alguma resposta concreta,
8pois a pessoa que age assim é insegura e dividida, voltando-se ora para um lado, ora para o outro.
9O irmão que não goza de muito prestígio neste mundo deve orgulhar-se quando estiver em posição elevada.
10Mas o homem rico deve sentir-se alegre caso fique pobre, porque as suas riquezas não significam nada para o Senhor, pois o rico logo passará, como uma flor do campo.
11Quando o sol se levanta, traz o calor abrasador e a planta murcha e seca. Assim é com os ricos. Eles murcharão logo e deixarão para trás todos os seus afazeres.
12Feliz é o homem que não cede e continua fiel quando é provado, porque depois receberá como recompensa a coroa da vida que Deus prometeu àqueles que o amam.
13Quando alguém for tentado, nunca diga: “Esta tentação vem de Deus”. Pois Deus nunca pode ser tentado pelo mal, e ele próprio nunca tenta alguém.
14Mas a tentação vem da fascinação dos próprios pensamentos e desejos maus do homem.
15Estes maus pensamentos levam ao pecado, e, quando o pecado é consumado, leva à morte.
16Portanto, não se deixem enganar, caros irmãos.
17Mas tudo quanto é bom e perfeito vem de Deus, o Criador de toda luz, e que resplandece para sempre, sem mudança nem sombra.
18E foi pela sua própria vontade que ele nos deu a vida nova, por meio da verdade da sua palavra, e nos tornamos os primeiros frutos de tudo que ele criou.
19Queridos irmãos, nunca se esqueçam de que cada um deve estar pronto para ouvir, mas demorar para falar e ficar irado;
20pois a ira humana não produz a justiça de Deus.
21Portanto, livrem-se de toda impureza e da maldade, tanto interior quanto exterior, e alegrem-se humildemente com a palavra maravilhosa que foi implantada em vocês, pois ela é capaz de nos salvar à medida que se desenvolve em nossos corações.
22E lembrem-se: Coloquem em prática a palavra, e não sejam apenas ouvintes. Portanto, não se enganem:
23pois se uma pessoa apenas ouvir e não a colocar em prática é semelhante a um homem que olha o seu próprio rosto num espelho;
24e, depois de olhar para si mesmo, logo que se afasta não se lembra de como é a sua aparência.
25Entretanto, se continuar olhando com firmeza na lei de Deus que traz a liberdade e não a esquecer, mas praticar o que ela diz, Deus abençoará grandemente essa pessoa em tudo quanto fizer.
26Se alguém se considera religioso, mas não refreia a sua língua ferina, está apenas enganando-se a si mesmo, e a sua religião não vale nada.
27A religião que Deus, o nosso Pai, aceita como pura e sem falhas é aquela que cuida dos órfãos e das viúvas em suas dificuldades, e que permanece fiel ao Senhor — sem se contaminar com o mundo.

1JACOBO, siervo de Dios y del Señor Jesucristo, á las doce tribus que están esparcidas, salud.
2Hermanos míos, tened por sumo gozo cuando cayereis en diversas tentaciones;
3Sabiendo que la prueba de vuestra fe obra paciencia.
4Mas tenga la paciencia perfecta su obra, para que seáis perfectos y cabales, sin faltar en alguna cosa.
5Y si alguno de vosotros tiene falta de sabiduría, demándela á Dios, el cual da á todos abundantemente, y no zahiere; y le será dada.
6Pero pida en fe, no dudando nada: porque el que duda es semejante á la onda de la mar, que es movida del viento, y echada de una parte á otra.
7No piense pues el tal hombre que recibirá ninguna cosa del Señor.
8El hombre de doblado ánimo es inconstante en todos sus caminos.
9El hermano que es de baja suerte, gloríese en su alteza:
10Mas el que es rico, en su bajeza; porque él se pasará como la flor de la hierba.
11Porque salido el sol con ardor, la hierba se secó, y su flor se cayó, y pereció su hermosa apariencia: así también se marchitará el rico en todos sus caminos.
12Bienaventurado el varón que sufre la tentación; porque cuando fuere probado, recibirá la corona de vida, que Dios ha prometido á los que le aman.
13Cuando alguno es tentado, no diga que es tentado de Dios: porque Dios no puede ser tentado de los malos, ni él tienta á alguno:
14Sino que cada uno es tentado, cuando de su propia concupiscencia es atraído, y cebado.
15Y la concupiscencia, después que ha concebido, pare el pecado: y el pecado, siendo cumplido, engendra muerte.
16Amados hermanos míos, no erréis.
17Toda buena dádiva y todo don perfecto es de lo alto, que desciende del Padre de las luces, en el cual no hay mudanza, ni sombra de variación.
18El, de su voluntad nos ha engendrado por la palabra de verdad, para que seamos primicias de sus criaturas.
19Por esto, mis amados hermanos, todo hombre sea pronto para oir, tardío para hablar, tardío para airarse:
20Porque la ira del hombre no obra la justicia de Dios.
21Por lo cual, dejando toda inmundicia y superfluidad de malicia, recibid con mansedumbre la palabra ingerida, la cual puede hacer salvas vuestras almas.
22Mas sed hacedores de la palabra, y no tan solamente oidores, engañándoos á vosotros mismos.
23Porque si alguno oye la palabra, y no la pone por obra, este tal es semejante al hombre que considera en un espejo su rostro natural.
24Porque él se consideró á sí mismo, y se fué, y luego se olvidó qué tal era.
25Mas el que hubiere mirado atentamente en la perfecta ley, que es la de la libertad, y perseverado en ella, no siendo oidor olvidadizo, sino hacedor de la obra, este tal será bienaventurado en su hecho.
26Si alguno piensa ser religioso entre vosotros, y no refrena su lengua, sino engañando su corazón, la religión del tal es vana.
27La religión pura y sin mácula delante de Dios y Padre es esta: Visitar los huérfanos y las viudas en sus tribulaciones, y guardarse sin mancha de este mundo.

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting.
2My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations;
3Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience.
4But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.
5If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.
6But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.
7For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord.
8A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.
9Let the brother of low degree rejoice in that he is exalted:
10But the rich, in that he is made low: because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.
11For the sun is no sooner risen with a burning heat, but it withereth the grass, and the flower thereof falleth, and the grace of the fashion of it perisheth: so also shall the rich man fade away in his ways.
12Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
14But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
15Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.
16Do not err, my beloved brethren.
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
18Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures.
19Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath:
20For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God.
21Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
23For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
24For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.
25But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.
26If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
27Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.

1James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are in the Dispersion: Greetings.
2Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations,
3knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance.
4Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
6But let him ask in faith, without any doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, driven by the wind and tossed.
7For that man shouldn’t think that he will receive anything from the Lord.
8He is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.
9Let the brother in humble circumstances glory in his high position;
10and the rich, in that he is made humble, because like the flower in the grass, he will pass away.
11For the sun arises with the scorching wind and withers the grass; and the flower in it falls, and the beauty of its appearance perishes. So the rich man will also fade away in his pursuits.
12Blessed is a person who endures temptation, for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord promised to those who love him.
13Let no man say when he is tempted, “I am tempted by God,” for God can’t be tempted by evil, and he himself tempts no one.
14But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own lust and enticed.
15Then the lust, when it has conceived, bears sin. The sin, when it is full grown, produces death.
16Don’t be deceived, my beloved brothers.
17Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation nor turning shadow.
18Of his own will he gave birth to us by the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.
19So, then, my beloved brothers, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger;
20for the anger of man doesn’t produce the righteousness of God.
21Therefore, putting away all filthiness and overflowing of wickedness, receive with humility the implanted word, which is able to save your souls.
22But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves.
23For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man looking at his natural face in a mirror;
24for he sees himself, and goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was.
25But he who looks into the perfect law of freedom and continues, not being a hearer who forgets but a doer of the work, this man will be blessed in what he does.
26If anyone among you thinks himself to be religious while he doesn’t bridle his tongue, but deceives his heart, this man’s religion is worthless.
27Pure religion and undefiled before our God and Father is this: to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained by the world.
