1Mais il ne fera pas toujours sombre là où il y a maintenant angoisse. Si les premiers temps ont couvert d'opprobre le pays de Zabulon et le pays de Nephthali, les temps qui suivront couvriront de gloire la côte de la mer, au-delà du Jourdain, la contrée des Gentils.
2Le peuple qui marche dans les ténèbres, voit une grande lumière : sur ceux qui sont assis au pays de l'ombre de mort, resplendit une lumière.
3Tu rends le peuple nombreux, tu augmentes sa joie ; ils se réjouissent devant toi, comme on se réjouit à la moisson, comme on s'égaie au partage du butin.
4Car le joug qui lui pèse, la verge qui bat son épaule, et le bâton de son oppresseur, tu le brises comme à la journée de Madian.
5Car toute chaussure qu'on chausse dans la mêlée, et tout habit de guerre roulé dans le sang, seront brûlés, seront la proie des flammes.
6Car un enfant nous est né, un Fils nous est donné, et l'empire repose sur son épaule, et on lui donne pour nom Merveille, Conseiller, Dieu Fort, Père éternel, Prince de paix,
7pour l'accroissement de l'empire, et pour une paix sans fin sur le trône de David et sur son royaume, afin de l'affermir et de le soutenir par le droit et la justice, dès maintenant à l'éternité. C'est ce qu'opérera le zèle de l'Éternel des armées.
8Le Seigneur dirige contre Jacob une parole, qui va frapper Israël,
9et elle se fera sentir à tout le peuple, à Éphraïm et aux habitants de Samarie qui, dans l'orgueil et la fierté du cœur, disent :
10« Des briques se sont écroulées, et en pierres de taille nous rebâtirons ; des sycomores ont été coupés, et par des cèdres nous les remplacerons. »
11Car l'Éternel rendra les ennemis de Retsin supérieurs à eux, et Il armera leurs ennemis,
12les Syriens par devant et les Philistins par derrière, pour qu'ils mangent Israël à pleine bouche. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne cesse point, et sa droite est encore étendue.
13Mais le peuple ne revient pas à Celui qui le frappe, et de l'Éternel des armées ils ne s'enquièrent pas.
14Aussi l'Éternel arrachera d'Israël la tête et la queue, le rameau de palmier et le jonc, en un même jour.
15(L'ancien et le noble, c'est la tête ; et le prophète docteur de mensonge, c'est la queue.)
16Car les guides de ce peuple l'égarent, et ceux qui se laissent guider se perdent.
17C'est pourquoi le Seigneur n'aura point de joie à voir ses jeunes hommes, et de ses orphelins et de ses veuves ; Il n'aura point de pitié, car tous ils sont sacrilèges et méchants, et toutes les bouches parlent follement. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne cesse point, et sa main est encore étendue.
18Car la méchanceté brûle comme un feu qui dévore les ronces et les épines, et embrase le fort de la forêt, et s'élève en colonnes de fumée.
19Par la colère de l'Éternel des armées le pays est incendié, et le peuple devient la proie des flammes ; nul n'épargne son frère.
20On dévore à droite, et l'on est affamé ; on mange à gauche, et l'on n'est pas rassasié : chacun mange la chair de ses proches.
21Manassé dévore Éphraïm, et Éphraïm Manassé, et les deux ensemble fondent sur Juda. Malgré tout cela, sa colère ne cesse pas, et sa main est toujours étendue.

1AUNQUE no será esta oscuridad tal como la aflicción que le vino en el tiempo que livianamente tocaron la primera vez á la tierra de Zabulón, y á la tierra de Nephtalí; y después cuando agravaron por la vía de la mar, de esa parte del Jordán, en Galilea de las gentes.
2El pueblo que andaba en tinieblas vió gran luz: los que moraban en tierra de sombra de muerte, luz resplandeció sobre ellos.
3Aumentando la gente, no aumentaste la alegría. Alegraránse delante de ti como se alegran en la siega, como se gozan cuando reparten despojos.
4Porque tú quebraste su pesado yugo, y la vara de su hombro, y el cetro de su exactor, como en el día de Madián.
5Porque toda batalla de quien pelea es con estruendo, y con revolcamiento de vestidura en sangre: mas esto será para quema, y pábulo del fuego.
6Porque un niño nos es nacido, hijo nos es dado; y el principado sobre su hombro: y llamaráse su nombre Admirable, Consejero, Dios fuerte, Padre eterno, Príncipe de paz.
7Lo dilatado de su imperio y la paz no tendrán término, sobre el trono de David, y sobre su reino, disponiéndolo y confirmándolo en juicio y en justicia desde ahora para siempre. El celo de Jehová de los ejércitos hará esto.
8El Señor envió palabra á Jacob, y cayó en Israel.
9Y la sabrá el pueblo, todo él, Ephraim y los moradores de Samaria, que con soberbia y con altivez de corazón dicen:
10Los ladrillos cayeron, mas edificaremos de cantería; cortaron los cabrahigos, mas cedros pondremos en su lugar.
11Empero Jehová ensalzará los enemigos de Rezín contra él, y juntará sus enemigos;
12De oriente los Siros, y los Filisteos de poniente; y con toda la boca se tragarán á Israel. Ni con todo eso ha cesado su furor, antes todavía su mano extendida.
13Mas el pueblo no se convirtió al que lo hería, ni buscaron á Jehová de los ejércitos.
14Y Jehová cortará de Israel cabeza y cola, ramo y caña en un mismo día.
15El viejo y venerable de rostro es la cabeza: el profeta que enseña mentira, este es cola.
16Porque los gobernadores de este pueblo son engañadores; y sus gobernados, perdidos.
17Por tanto, el Señor no tomará contentamiento en sus mancebos, ni de sus huérfanos y viudas tendrá misericordia: porque todos son falsos y malignos, y toda boca habla despropósitos. Con todo esto no ha cesado su furor, antes todavía su mano extendida.
18Porque la maldad se encendió como fuego, cardos y espinas devorará; y encenderáse en lo espeso de la breña, y serán alzados como humo.
19Por la ira de Jehová de los ejércitos se oscureció la tierra, y será el pueblo como pábulo del fuego: el hombre no tendrá piedad de su hermano.
20Cada uno hurtará á la mano derecha, y tendrá hambre; y comerá á la izquierda, y no se hartará: cada cual comerá la carne de su brazo:
21Manasés á Ephraim, y Ephraim á Manasés, y entrambos contra Judá. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.

1Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations.
2The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined.
3Thou hast multiplied the nation, and not increased the joy: they joy before thee according to the joy in harvest, and as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.
4For thou hast broken the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, as in the day of Midian.
5For every battle of the warrior is with confused noise, and garments rolled in blood; but this shall be with burning and fuel of fire.
6For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
7Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this.
8The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it hath lighted upon Israel.
9And all the people shall know, even Ephraim and the inhabitant of Samaria, that say in the pride and stoutness of heart,
10The bricks are fallen down, but we will build with hewn stones: the sycomores are cut down, but we will change them into cedars.
11Therefore the LORD shall set up the adversaries of Rezin against him, and join his enemies together;
12The Syrians before, and the Philistines behind; and they shall devour Israel with open mouth. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
13For the people turneth not unto him that smiteth them, neither do they seek the LORD of hosts.
14Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, branch and rush, in one day.
15The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.
16For the leaders of this people cause them to err; and they that are led of them are destroyed.
17Therefore the Lord shall have no joy in their young men, neither shall have mercy on their fatherless and widows: for every one is an hypocrite and an evildoer, and every mouth speaketh folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
18For wickedness burneth as the fire: it shall devour the briers and thorns, and shall kindle in the thickets of the forest, and they shall mount up like the lifting up of smoke.
19Through the wrath of the LORD of hosts is the land darkened, and the people shall be as the fuel of the fire: no man shall spare his brother.
20And he shall snatch on the right hand, and be hungry; and he shall eat on the left hand, and they shall not be satisfied: they shall eat every man the flesh of his own arm:
21Manasseh, Ephraim; and Ephraim, Manasseh: and they together shall be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

1But there shall be no more gloom for her who was in anguish. In the former time, he brought into contempt the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali; but in the latter time he has made it glorious, by the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the nations.
2The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. The light has shined on those who lived in the land of the shadow of death.
3You have multiplied the nation. You have increased their joy. They rejoice before you according to the joy in harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the plunder.
4For the yoke of his burden, and the staff of his shoulder, the rod of his oppressor, you have broken as in the day of Midian.
5For all the armor of the armed man in the noisy battle, and the garments rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.
6For a child is born to us. A son is given to us; and the government will be on his shoulders. His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
7Of the increase of his government and of peace there shall be no end, on David’s throne, and on his kingdom, to establish it, and to uphold it with justice and with righteousness from that time on, even forever. The zeal of the LORD of Armies will perform this.
8The Lord sent a word into Jacob, and it falls on Israel.
9All the people will know, including Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, who say in pride and in arrogance of heart,

11Therefore the LORD will set up on high against him the adversaries of Rezin, and will stir up his enemies,
12The Syrians in front, and the Philistines behind; and they will devour Israel with open mouth. For all this, his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
13Yet the people have not turned to him who struck them, neither have they sought the LORD of Armies.
14Therefore the LORD will cut off from Israel head and tail, palm branch and reed, in one day.
15The elder and the honorable man is the head, and the prophet who teaches lies is the tail.
16For those who lead this people lead them astray; and those who are led by them are destroyed.
17Therefore the Lord will not rejoice over their young men, neither will he have compassion on their fatherless and widows; for everyone is profane and an evildoer, and every mouth speaks folly. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
18For wickedness burns like a fire. It devours the briers and thorns; yes, it kindles in the thickets of the forest, and they roll upward in a column of smoke.
19Through the LORD of Armies’ wrath, the land is burned up; and the people are the fuel for the fire. No one spares his brother.
20One will devour on the right hand, and be hungry; and he will eat on the left hand, and they will not be satisfied. Everyone will eat the flesh of his own arm:
21Manasseh eating Ephraim and Ephraim eating Manasseh, and they together will be against Judah. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
