Isaías 28

1He aquí al Señor poderoso y fuerte, como pedrisco impetuoso, como torbellino quebrantador, como el ímpetu de muchas aguas que inundan y anegan un espacioso país.
2La corona de soberbia de los embriagados de Efraín, será hollada con los pies.
3Y la caduca flor de la gloria y alegría del que está sobre la cumbre del fertilísimo valle, será como un fruto temprano, que madura antes del otoño; al cual el primero que lo ve, al instante lo coge, y lo devora.
4Aquel día el Señor de los ejércitos será corona de gloria y guirnalda de regocijo para las reliquias de su pueblo.
5Y será espíritu de justicia para aquel que esté sentado en el trono, a fin de administrarla; y espíritu de fortaleza para aquellos valientes que vuelven de pelear en las puertas mismas de los enemigos.
6Mas aun éstos perdieron el entendimiento por el demasiado vino, y anduvieron dominados por su embriaguez. El sacerdote y el profeta perdieron el seso por su embriaguez, el vino los trastornó, la embriaguez los extravió del camino; no quisieron conocer al verdadero profeta, ni saber qué cosa es justicia.
7Porque todas las mesas atestadas están de vómito y de inmundicias, sin que quede ningún lugar limpio.
8¿A quién comunicará el Señor la ciencia? ¿Y a quién dará la inteligencia de lo que dice? A los niños acabados de destetar, a los que son arrancados de los pechos de sus madres.
9Ya que dicen por escarnio: Manda, vuelve a mandar, ¡oh profeta!, manda, vuelve a mandar; espera, vuelve a esperar; espera, vuelve a esperar; un poquito aquí; otro poquito allí.
10Pero el Señor hablará con otros labios y otro lenguaje extraño a ese pueblo insano.
11Al cual dijo un día: Aquí tengo mi reposo; reparad las fuerzas del que está fatigado, que en eso consiste mi refrigerio; y no han querido escucharme.
12Y el Señor les dirá algún día: Manda, vuelve a mandar; manda, vuelve a mandar; espera, vuelve a esperar; un poquito aquí, otro poquito allí; y dejará que vayan y caigan de espaldas, y sean hollados y presos en los lazos.
13Por tanto, escuchad la voz del Señor, oh hombres escarnecedores que domináis al pueblo mío que está en Jerusalén .
14Pues vosotros dijisteis: Hemos hecho pacto con la muerte y un convenio con el infierno; cuando venga el azote como un torrente, no llegará a nosotros; porque nos hemos apoyado en la mentira o intriga, y ésta nos pondrá a cubierto.
15Por tanto, esto dice el Señor Dios: He aquí que yo pondré en los cimientos de la nueva Sión una piedra, piedra escogida, angular, preciosa, asentada por solidísimo fundamento; el que creyere, no se apresure.
16Y ejerceré el juicio con peso, y la justicia con medida; y un pedrisco trastornará la esperanza puesta en la mentira, y vuestra protección quedará sumergida en las aguas de la calamidad.
17Y el contrato vuestro con la muerte será cancelado, y no subsistirá vuestro pacto con el infierno; y cuando, como un torrente, venga el azote, os arrastrará consigo.
18Al instante que venga, os arrebatará; porque vendrá muy de madrugada, y continuará día y noche; y sólo la aflicción hará entender las cosas que se han escuchado.
19Porque el lecho es angosto en tal manera, que uno de los dos caerá; y tan pequeña la manta que no puede cubrir a ambos.
20Sabed que el Señor se levantará, como hizo en otro tiempo en el monte de las Divisiones, o Baalfarasim; se enojará como hizo en el valle de Gabaón, para ejecutar su obra o venganza, una obra que es ajena de él; para hacer su obra, una obra que es extraña de él.
21Dejad, pues, ya de burlaros de mis amenazas, porque no se aprieten más vuestras ligaduras. Porque el Señor Dios de los ejércitos es de quien he oído la destrucción de toda la tierra, o país que habitáis, la destrucción que sucederá dentro de poco.
22Prestadme vuestra atención, y oíd mi voz; atended y escuchad mi palabra.
23¿Acaso el arador está siempre arando para sembrar?; ¿está siempre rompiendo o allanando la tierra?
24Luego que ha igualado su superficie, ¿no siembra por ventura el anís, esparce el comino, y pone con cierto orden, y en sus respectivos lugares, el trigo, la cebada, el mijo y la veza o arveja?
25Porque el Señor su Dios le da conocimientos en la agricultura, y le amaestra en estas labores.
26El anís no se trillará por medio de tablas con dientes de hierro o pedernal, ni sobre el comino andará dando vueltas la rueda del carro; sino que el anís será sacudido con una vara, y con unas varillas el comino.
27El trigo será trillado; mas no lo estará trillando sin término el que lo trilla, ni siempre la rueda del carro lo estará oprimiendo, ni hollándolo las pezuñas de las bestias.
28Esto es lo que ha decretado el Señor Dios de los ejércitos, el cual ha hecho admirables sus consejos y célebre la sabiduría de su justicia.
29¡Ay de Ariel, de Ariel, ciudad que conquistó David! Pasará uno y otro año, y pasarán las solemnidades;

1¡AY de la corona de soberbia, de los ebrios de Ephraim, y de la flor caduca de la hermosura de su gloria, que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil de los aturdidos del vino!
2He aquí Jehová tiene un fuerte y poderoso: como turbión de granizo y como torbellino trastornador; como ímpetu de recias aguas que inundan, con fuerza derriba á tierra.
3Con los pies será hollada la corona de soberbia de los borrachos de Ephraim;
4Y será la flor caduca de la hermosura de su gloria que está sobre la cabeza del valle fértil, como la fruta temprana, la primera del verano, la cual, en viéndola el que la mira, se la traga tan luego como la tiene á mano.
5En aquel día Jehová de los ejércitos será por corona de gloria y diadema de hermosura á las reliquias de su pueblo;
6Y por espíritu de juicio al que se sentare en juicio, y por fortaleza á los que harán tornar la batalla hasta la puerta.
7Mas también éstos erraron con el vino, y con la sidra se entontecieron; el sacerdote y el profeta erraron con la sidra, fueron trastornados del vino, aturdiéronse con la sidra, erraron en la visión, tropezaron en el juicio.
8Porque todas las mesas están llenas de vómito y suciedad, hasta no haber lugar limpio.
9¿A quién se enseñará ciencia, ó á quién se hará entender doctrina? ¿A los quitados de la leche? ¿á los arrancados de los pechos?
10Porque mandamiento tras mandamiento, mandato sobre mandato, renglón tras renglón, línea sobre línea, un poquito allí, otro poquito allá:
11Porque en lengua de tartamudos, y en extraña lengua hablará á este pueblo,
12A los cuales él dijo: Este es el reposo: dad reposo al cansado; y éste es el refrigerio: mas no quisieron oir.
13La palabra pues de Jehová les será mandamiento tras mandamiento, mandato sobre mandato, renglón tras renglón, línea sobre línea, un poquito allí, otro poquito allá; que vayan y caigan de espaldas, y sean quebrantados, y enlazados, y presos.
14Por tanto, varones burladores, que estáis enseñoreados sobre este pueblo que está en Jerusalem, oid la palabra de Jehová.
15Porque habéis dicho: Concierto tenemos hecho con la muerte, é hicimos acuerdo con la sepultura; cuando pasare el turbión del azote, no llegará á nosotros, pues que hemos puesto nuestra acogida en la mentira, y en la falsedad nos esconderemos:
16Por tanto, el Señor Jehová dice así: He aquí que yo fundo en Sión una piedra, piedra de fortaleza, de esquina, de precio, de cimiento estable: el que creyere, no se apresure.
17Y ajustaré el juicio á cordel, y á nivel la justicia; y granizo barrerá la acogida de la mentira, y aguas arrollarán el escondrijo.
18Y será anulado vuestro concierto con la muerte, y vuestro acuerdo con el sepulcro no será firme: cuando pasare el turbión del azote, seréis de él hollados.
19Luego que comenzare á pasar, él os arrebatará; porque de mañana de mañana pasará, de día y de noche; y será que el espanto solamente haga entender lo oído.
20Porque la cama es tan angosta que no basta, y la cubierta estrecha para recoger.
21Porque Jehová se levantará como en el monte Perasim, como en el valle de Gabaón se enojará; para hacer su obra, su extraña obra, y para hacer su operación, su extraña operación.
22Ahora pues, no os burléis, porque no se aprieten más vuestras ataduras: porque consumación y acabamiento sobre toda la tierra he oído del Señor Jehová de los ejércitos.
23Estad atentos, y oid mi voz; estad atentos, y oid mi dicho.
24El que ara para sembrar, ¿arará todo el día; romperá y quebrará los terrones de la tierra?
25Después que hubiere igualado su superficie, ¿no derramará la neguilla, sembrará el comino, pondrá el trigo por su orden, y la cebada en su señal, y la avena en su término?
26Porque su Dios le instruye, y le enseña á juicio;
27Que la neguilla no se trillará con trillo, ni sobre el comino rodará rueda de carreta; sino que con un palo se sacude la neguilla, y el comino con una vara.
28El pan se trilla; mas no siempre lo trillará, ni lo comprimirá con la rueda de su carreta, ni lo quebrantará con los dientes de su trillo.
29También esto salió de Jehová de los ejércitos, para hacer maravilloso el consejo y engrandecer la sabiduría.

1Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim, whose glorious beauty is a fading flower, which are on the head of the fat valleys of them that are overcome with wine!
2Behold, the Lord hath a mighty and strong one, which as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing, shall cast down to the earth with the hand.
3The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:
4And the glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fat valley, shall be a fading flower, and as the hasty fruit before the summer; which when he that looketh upon it seeth, while it is yet in his hand he eateth it up.
5In that day shall the LORD of hosts be for a crown of glory, and for a diadem of beauty, unto the residue of his people,
6And for a spirit of judgment to him that sitteth in judgment, and for strength to them that turn the battle to the gate.
7But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink, they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.
8For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.
9Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts.
10For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:
11For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.
12To whom he said, This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.
13But the word of the LORD was unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.
14Wherefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that rule this people which is in Jerusalem.
15Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with hell are we at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood have we hid ourselves:
16Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.
17Judgment also will I lay to the line, and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.
18And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with hell shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.
19From the time that it goeth forth it shall take you: for morning by morning shall it pass over, by day and by night: and it shall be a vexation only to understand the report.
20For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.
21For the LORD shall rise up as in mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.
22Now therefore be ye not mockers, lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of hosts a consumption, even determined upon the whole earth.
23Give ye ear, and hear my voice; hearken, and hear my speech.
24Doth the plowman plow all day to sow? doth he open and break the clods of his ground?
25When he hath made plain the face thereof, doth he not cast abroad the fitches, and scatter the cummin, and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rie in their place?
26For his God doth instruct him to discretion, and doth teach him.
27For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff, and the cummin with a rod.
28Bread corn is bruised; because he will not ever be threshing it, nor break it with the wheel of his cart, nor bruise it with his horsemen.
29This also cometh forth from the LORD of hosts, which is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in working.
World English Bible
1Woe to the crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim, and to the fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley of those who are overcome with wine!
2Behold, the Lord has one who is mighty and strong. Like a storm of hail, a destroying storm, and like a storm of mighty waters overflowing, he will cast them down to the earth with his hand.
3The crown of pride of the drunkards of Ephraim will be trodden under foot.
4The fading flower of his glorious beauty, which is on the head of the fertile valley, shall be like the first-ripe fig before the summer, which someone picks and eats as soon as he sees it.
5In that day, the LORD of Armies will become a crown of glory and a diadem of beauty to the residue of his people,
6and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
7They also reel with wine, and stagger with strong drink. The priest and the prophet reel with strong drink. They are swallowed up by wine. They stagger with strong drink. They err in vision. They stumble in judgment.
8For all tables are completely full of filthy vomit and filthiness.
9Whom will he teach knowledge? To whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breasts?

14Therefore hear the LORD’s word, you scoffers, that rule this people in Jerusalem:
15“Because you have said, ‘We have made a covenant with death, and we are in agreement with Sheol. When the overflowing scourge passes through, it won’t come to us; for we have made lies our refuge, and we have hidden ourselves under falsehood.’”
16Therefore the Lord GOD says, “Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious cornerstone of a sure foundation. He who believes shall not act hastily.
17I will make justice the measuring line, and righteousness the plumb line. The hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters will overflow the hiding place.
18Your covenant with death shall be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand. When the overflowing scourge passes through, then you will be trampled down by it.
19As often as it passes through, it will seize you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be nothing but terror to understand the message.”
20For the bed is too short to stretch out on, and the blanket is too narrow to wrap oneself in.
21For the LORD will rise up as on Mount Perazim. He will be angry as in the valley of Gibeon; that he may do his work, his unusual work, and bring to pass his act, his extraordinary act.
22Now therefore don’t be scoffers, lest your bonds be made strong; for I have heard a decree of destruction from the Lord, GOD of Armies, on the whole earth.
23Give ear, and hear my voice! Listen, and hear my speech!
24Does he who plows to sow plow continually? Does he keep turning the soil and breaking the clods?
25When he has leveled its surface, doesn’t he plant the dill, and scatter the cumin seed, and put in the wheat in rows, the barley in the appointed place, and the spelt in its place?
26For his God instructs him in right judgment and teaches him.
27For the dill isn’t threshed with a sharp instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned over the cumin; but the dill is beaten out with a stick, and the cumin with a rod.
28Bread flour must be ground; so he will not always be threshing it. Although he drives the wheel of his threshing cart over it, his horses don’t grind it.
29This also comes out from the LORD of Armies, who is wonderful in counsel, and excellent in wisdom.
