Isaías 14
Sainte Bible libre pour le monde
1Car le SEIGNEUR aura compassion de Jacob, il choisira encore Israël, et les établira sur leur propre terre. L'étranger se joindra à eux, et ils s'uniront à la maison de Jacob.
2Les peuples les prendront et les ramèneront chez eux. La maison d'Israël les possédera dans la terre du SEIGNEUR comme serviteurs et servantes. Ils feront prisonniers ceux dont ils étaient les prisonniers, et ils domineront sur leurs oppresseurs.
3Il arrivera, au jour où le SEIGNEUR te donnera du repos après ta peine, ton tourment, et la dure servitude qui t'avait été imposée,
4que tu entonneras ce chant contre le roi de Babylone, et tu diras : « Comment l'oppresseur a-t-il disparu ! La cité de l'or a pris fin ! »
5Le SEIGNEUR a brisé le bâton des méchants, le sceptre des dominateurs,
6celui qui frappait les peuples avec fureur par des coups sans relâche, celui qui dominait les nations avec colère, par une persécution que nul ne freinait.
7Toute la terre est en repos et tranquille. On éclate en chants d'allégresse.
8Même les cyprès se réjouissent à ton sujet, avec les cèdres du Liban, en disant : « Depuis que tu as été abattu, aucun bûcheron n'est monté contre nous. »
9Le Shéol, en bas, s'agite pour t'accueillir à ton arrivée. Il réveille pour toi les esprits des défunts, tous les princes de la terre. Il a fait lever de leurs trônes tous les rois des nations.
10Tous prendront la parole pour te dire : « Toi aussi, es-tu devenu faible comme nous ? Es-tu devenu semblable à nous ? »
11Ton faste est descendu au Shéol, avec le son de tes instruments à cordes. Les asticots sont étalés sous toi, et les vers te recouvrent.
12Comment es-tu tombé du ciel, astre brillant, fils de l'aurore ! Comment as-tu été abattu à terre, toi qui terrassais les nations !
13Tu disais en ton cœur : « Je monterai au ciel ! J'élèverai mon trône au-dessus des étoiles de Dieu ! Je m'assiérai sur la montagne de l'assemblée, à l'extrême nord !
14Je monterai sur le sommet des nues ! Je me rendrai semblable au Très-Haut ! »
15Mais tu seras précipité au Shéol, dans les profondeurs de la fosse.
16Ceux qui te voient fixent leurs regards sur toi. Ils te considèrent attentivement, en disant : « Est-ce là l'homme qui faisait trembler la terre, qui ébranlait les royaumes,
17qui réduisait le monde en désert, qui détruisait ses villes, et qui ne relâchait pas ses prisonniers pour qu'ils rentrent chez eux ? »
18Tous les rois des nations dorment dans la gloire, chacun dans sa propre demeure.
19Mais toi, tu es jeté loin de ton sépulcre comme un rameau abominable, recouvert par les cadavres de ceux qui ont été transpercés par l'épée, qui descendent vers les pierres de la fosse ; comme un cadavre piétiné.
20Tu ne seras pas réuni à eux dans la tombe, parce que tu as détruit ton pays. Tu as tué ton peuple. La descendance des malfaiteurs ne sera plus jamais nommée.
21Préparez le massacre de ses fils à cause de l'iniquité de leurs pères, de peur qu'ils ne se lèvent pour posséder la terre, et ne remplissent la surface du monde de villes.
22« Je me lèverai contre eux », dit le SEIGNEUR des Armées, « et je retrancherai de Babylone le nom et le reste, le fils et le petit-fils », dit le SEIGNEUR.
23« J'en ferai aussi le domaine du porc-épic, et des étangs d'eau. Je la balaierai avec le balai de la destruction », dit le SEIGNEUR des Armées.
24Le SEIGNEUR des Armées l'a juré, en disant : « Certainement, ce que j'ai pensé arrivera ; et ce que j'ai résolu s'accomplira :
25je briserai l'Assyrien dans mon pays, et je le piétinerai sur mes montagnes. Alors son joug leur sera ôté, et son fardeau sera enlevé de leurs épaules.
26Tel est le plan qui est arrêté pour toute la terre. Telle est la main qui est étendue sur toutes les nations.
27Car le SEIGNEUR des Armées a pris cette résolution, et qui pourrait l'annuler ? Sa main est étendue, et qui pourrait la détourner ? »
28Cet oracle fut prononcé l'année de la mort du roi Ahaz.
29Ne te réjouis pas, ô Philistie tout entière, de ce que la verge qui te frappait est brisée ; car de la racine du serpent sortira une vipère, et son fruit sera un serpent brûlant et volant.
30Les premiers-nés des pauvres auront de quoi manger, et les indigents reposeront en sécurité ; mais je ferai mourir ta racine par la famine, et ton reste sera tué.
31Hurle, porte ! Crie, ville ! Tu es anéantie, Philistie tout entière ; car du nord vient une fumée, et il n'y a aucun traînard dans ses rangs.
32Que répondra-t-on aux messagers de la nation ? Que le SEIGNEUR a fondé Sion, et qu'en elle les affligés de son peuple trouveront refuge.

1PORQUE Jehová tendrá piedad de Jacob, y todavía escogerá á Israel, y les hará reposar en su tierra: y á ellos se unirán extranjeros, y allegaránse á la familia de Jacob.
2Y los tomarán los pueblos, y traeránlos á su lugar: y la casa de Israel los poseerá por siervos y criadas en la tierra de Jehová: y cautivarán á los que los cautivaron, y señorearán á los que los oprimieron.
3Y será en el día que Jehová te diere reposo de tu trabajo, y de tu temor, y de la dura servidumbre en que te hicieron servir,
4Que levantarás esta parábola sobre el rey de Babilonia, y dirás: ¡Cómo paró el exactor, cómo cesó la ciudad codiciosa del oro!
5Quebrantó Jehová el bastón de los impíos, el cetro de los señores;
6Al que con ira hería los pueblos de llaga permanente, el cual se enseñoreaba de las gentes con furor, y las perseguía con crueldad.
7Descansó, sosegó toda la tierra: cantaron alabanza.
8Aun las hayas se holgaron de ti, y los cedros del Líbano, diciendo: Desde que tú pereciste, no ha subido cortador contra nosotros.
9El infierno abajo se espantó de ti; te despertó muertos que en tu venida saliesen á recibirte, hizo levantar de sus sillas á todos los príncipes de la tierra, á todos los reyes de las naciones.
10Todos ellos darán voces, y te dirán: ¿Tú también enfermaste como nosotros, y como nosotros fuiste?
11Descendió al sepulcro tu soberbia, y el sonido de tus vihuelas: gusanos serán tu cama, y gusanos te cubrirán.
12¡Cómo caiste del cielo, oh Lucero, hijo de la mañana! Cortado fuiste por tierra, tú que debilitabas las gentes.
13Tú que decías en tu corazón: Subiré al cielo, en lo alto junto á las estrellas de Dios ensalzaré mi solio, y en el monte del testimonio me sentaré, á los lados del aquilón;
14Sobre las alturas de las nubes subiré, y seré semejante al Altísimo.
15Mas tú derribado eres en el sepulcro, á los lados de la huesa.
16Inclinarse han hacia ti los que te vieren, te considerarán diciendo: ¿Es este aquel varón que hacía temblar la tierra, que trastornaba los reinos;
17Que puso el mundo como un desierto, que asoló sus ciudades; que á sus presos nunca abrió la cárcel?
18Todos los reyes de las gentes, todos ellos yacen con honra cada uno en su casa.
19Mas tú echado eres de tu sepulcro como tronco abominable, como vestido de muertos pasados á cuchillo, que descendieron al fondo de la sepultura; como cuerpo muerto hollado.
20No serás contado con ellos en la sepultura: porque tú destruiste tu tierra, mataste tu pueblo. No será nombrada para siempre la simiente de los malignos.
21Aparejad sus hijos para el matadero por la maldad de sus padres: no se levanten, ni posean la tierra, é hinchan la haz del mundo de ciudades.
22Porque yo me levantaré sobre ellos, dice Jehová de los ejércitos, y raeré de Babilonia el nombre y las reliquias, hijo y nieto, dice Jehová.
23Y convertiréla en posesión de erizos, y en lagunas de agua; y la barreré con escobas de destrucción, dice Jehová de los ejércitos.
24Jehová de los ejércitos juró, diciendo: Ciertamente se hará de la manera que lo he pensado, y será confirmado como lo he determinado:
25Que quebrantaré al Asirio en mi tierra, y en mis montes lo hollaré; y su yugo será apartado de ellos, y su carga será quitada de su hombro.
26Este es el consejo que está acordado sobre toda la tierra; y ésta, la mano extendida sobre todas las gentes.
27Porque Jehová de los ejércitos ha determinado: ¿y quién invalidará? Y su mano extendida, ¿quién la hará tornar?
28En el año que murió el rey Achâz fué esta carga:
29No te alegres tú, Filistea toda, por haberse quebrado la vara del que te hería; porque de la raíz de la culebra saldrá basilisco, y su fruto, ceraste volador.
30Y los primogénitos de los pobres serán apacentados, y los menesterosos se acostarán seguramente: mas yo haré morir de hambre tu raíz, y mataré tus reliquias.
31Aulla, oh puerta; clama, oh ciudad; disuelta estás toda tú, Filistea: porque humo vendrá de aquilón, no quedará uno solo en sus asambleas.
32¿Y qué se responderá á los mensajeros de la gentilidad? Que Jehová fundó á Sión, y que á ella se acogerán los afligidos de su pueblo.

1For the LORD will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land: and the strangers shall be joined with them, and they shall cleave to the house of Jacob.
2And the people shall take them, and bring them to their place: and the house of Israel shall possess them in the land of the LORD for servants and handmaids: and they shall take them captives, whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
3And it shall come to pass in the day that the LORD shall give thee rest from thy sorrow, and from thy fear, and from the hard bondage wherein thou wast made to serve,
4That thou shalt take up this proverb against the king of Babylon, and say, How hath the oppressor ceased! the golden city ceased!
5The LORD hath broken the staff of the wicked, and the sceptre of the rulers.
6He who smote the people in wrath with a continual stroke, he that ruled the nations in anger, is persecuted, and none hindereth.
7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet: they break forth into singing.
8Yea, the fir trees rejoice at thee, and the cedars of Lebanon, saying, Since thou art laid down, no feller is come up against us.
9Hell from beneath is moved for thee to meet thee at thy coming: it stirreth up the dead for thee, even all the chief ones of the earth; it hath raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
10All they shall speak and say unto thee, Art thou also become weak as we? art thou become like unto us?
11Thy pomp is brought down to the grave, and the noise of thy viols: the worm is spread under thee, and the worms cover thee.
12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
18All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
19But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
20Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
21Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
22For I will rise up against them, saith the LORD of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the LORD.
23I will also make it a possession for the bittern, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the LORD of hosts.
24The LORD of hosts hath sworn, saying, Surely as I have thought, so shall it come to pass; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:
25That I will break the Assyrian in my land, and upon my mountains tread him under foot: then shall his yoke depart from off them, and his burden depart from off their shoulders.
26This is the purpose that is purposed upon the whole earth: and this is the hand that is stretched out upon all the nations.
27For the LORD of hosts hath purposed, and who shall disannul it? and his hand is stretched out, and who shall turn it back?
28In the year that king Ahaz died was this burden.
29Rejoice not thou, whole Palestina, because the rod of him that smote thee is broken: for out of the serpent’s root shall come forth a cockatrice, and his fruit shall be a fiery flying serpent.
30And the firstborn of the poor shall feed, and the needy shall lie down in safety: and I will kill thy root with famine, and he shall slay thy remnant.
31Howl, O gate; cry, O city; thou, whole Palestina, art dissolved: for there shall come from the north a smoke, and none shall be alone in his appointed times.
32What shall one then answer the messengers of the nation? That the LORD hath founded Zion, and the poor of his people shall trust in it.
World English Bible
1For the LORD will have compassion on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land. The foreigner will join himself with them, and they will unite with the house of Jacob.
2The peoples will take them, and bring them to their place. The house of Israel will possess them in the LORD’s land for servants and for handmaids. They will take as captives those whose captives they were; and they shall rule over their oppressors.
3It will happen in the day that the LORD will give you rest from your sorrow, from your trouble, and from the hard service in which you were made to serve,
4that you will take up this parable against the king of Babylon, and say, “How the oppressor has ceased! The golden city has ceased!”
5The LORD has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of the rulers,
6who struck the peoples in wrath with a continual stroke, who ruled the nations in anger, with a persecution that no one restrained.
7The whole earth is at rest, and is quiet. They break out in song.

9Sheol from beneath has moved for you to meet you at your coming. It stirs up the departed spirits for you, even all the rulers of the earth. It has raised up from their thrones all the kings of the nations.
10They all will answer and ask you, “Have you also become as weak as we are? Have you become like us?”
11Your pomp is brought down to Sheol, with the sound of your stringed instruments. Maggots are spread out under you, and worms cover you.
12How you have fallen from heaven, shining one, son of the dawn! How you are cut down to the ground, who laid the nations low!
13You said in your heart, “I will ascend into heaven! I will exalt my throne above the stars of God! I will sit on the mountain of assembly, in the far north!
14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds! I will make myself like the Most High!”
15Yet you shall be brought down to Sheol, to the depths of the pit.
16Those who see you will stare at you. They will ponder you, saying, “Is this the man who made the earth to tremble, who shook kingdoms,
17who made the world like a wilderness, and overthrew its cities, who didn’t release his prisoners to their home?”
18All the kings of the nations sleep in glory, everyone in his own house.
19But you are cast away from your tomb like an abominable branch, clothed with the slain who are thrust through with the sword, who go down to the stones of the pit; like a dead body trodden under foot.
20You will not join them in burial, because you have destroyed your land. You have killed your people. The offspring of evildoers will not be named forever.
21Prepare for slaughter of his children because of the iniquity of their fathers, that they not rise up and possess the earth, and fill the surface of the world with cities.
22“I will rise up against them,” says the LORD of Armies, “and cut off from Babylon name and remnant, and son and son’s son,” says the LORD.
23“I will also make it a possession for the porcupine, and pools of water. I will sweep it with the broom of destruction,” says the LORD of Armies.
24The LORD of Armies has sworn, saying, “Surely, as I have thought, so shall it happen; and as I have purposed, so shall it stand:

26This is the plan that is determined for the whole earth. This is the hand that is stretched out over all the nations.

31Howl, gate! Cry, city! You are melted away, Philistia, all of you; for smoke comes out of the north, and there is no straggler in his ranks.
