1Oracle sur Babylone, révélé à Isaïe, fils d'Amots.
2Sur une montagne nue levez un étendard ; appelez-les à haute voix, faites des signes de la main, et qu'ils franchissent les portes des princes.
3Moi, j'ai donné ordre à mes consacrés ; j'ai appelé mes héros pour servir ma colère, ceux qui acclament avec joie ma majesté.
4On entend sur les montagnes une rumeur : on dirait le bruit d'un peuple nombreux ; on entend un tumulte de royaumes, de nations rassemblées : C'est Yahweh des armées qui passe en revue ses troupes de guerre.
5Ils viennent d'un pays lointain, de l'extrémité du ciel, Yahweh et les instruments de son courroux, pour ravager toute la terre.
6Poussez des hurlements, car le jour de Yahweh est proche : il vient comme une dévastation du Tout-puissant.
7C'est pourquoi toute main sera défaillante, et tout cœur d'homme se fondra.
8Ils trembleront, les transes et les douleurs les saisiront ; ils se tordront comme une femme qui enfante ; ils se regarderont les uns les autres avec stupeur ; leurs visages seront comme la flamme.
9Voici que le jour de Yahweh est venu, jour cruel, de fureur et d'ardente colère, pour réduire la terre en désert, et en exterminer les pécheurs.
10Car les étoiles du ciel et leurs constellations ne font point briller leur lumière ; le soleil s'est obscurci à son lever, et la lune ne répand plus sa clarté.
11Je punirai le monde pour sa malice, et les méchants pour leur iniquité ; je ferai cesser l'arrogance des superbes, et j'abaisserai l'orgueil des tyrans.
12Je rendrai les hommes plus rares que l'or fin, plus rares que l'or d'Ophir.
13C'est pourquoi je ferai trembler les cieux, et la terre sera ébranlée de sa place, par la fureur de Yahweh des armées, au jour où s'allumera sa colère.
14Alors, comme une gazelle que l'on poursuit, comme un troupeau que personne ne rassemble, chacun se tournera vers son peuple, et s'enfuira dans son pays.
15Tous ceux qu'on trouvera seront transpercés, tous ceux qu'on saisira tomberont par l'épée.
16Leurs petits enfants seront écrasés sous leurs yeux, leurs maisons pillées et leurs femmes violées.
17Voici que je fais lever contre eux les Mèdes, qui ne font point cas de l'argent, et ne convoitent pas l'or.
18Leurs arcs écraseront les jeunes gens ; ils ne feront point grâce au fruit des entrailles ; leur œil n'aura pas pitié des enfants.
19Et Babylone, l'ornement des royaumes, la parure des fiers Chaldéens, sera comme Sodome et Gomorrhe que Dieu a détruites.
20Elle ne sera jamais plus peuplée, elle ne sera plus habitée dans le cours des âges ; l'Arabe n'y dressera pas sa tente, et le berger n'y parquera pas ses troupeaux.
21Les animaux du désert y feront leur gîte ; les hiboux rempliront ses maisons ; là habiteront les autruches, et le satyre y bondira.
22Les chacals hurleront dans ses palais déserts, et les chiens sauvages dans ses maisons de plaisir. Son temps est proche, et ses jours ne seront pas prolongés.

1CARGA de Babilonia, que vió Isaías, hijo de Amoz.
2Levantad bandera sobre un alto monte; alzad la voz á ellos, alzad la mano, para que entren por puertas de príncipes.
3Yo mandé á mis santificados, asimismo llamé á mis valientes para mi ira, á los que se alegran con mi gloria.
4Murmullo de multitud en los montes, como de mucho pueblo; murmullo de ruido de reinos, de gentes reunidas: Jehová de los ejércitos ordena las tropas de la batalla.
5Vienen de lejana tierra, de lo postrero de los cielos, Jehová y los instrumentos de su furor, para destruir toda la tierra.
6Aullad, porque cerca está el día de Jehová; vendrá como asolamiento del Todopoderoso.
7Por tanto, se enervarán todas la manos, y desleiráse todo corazón de hombre:
8Y se llenarán de terror; angustias y dolores los comprenderán; tendrán dolores como mujer de parto; pasmaráse cada cual al mirar á su compañero; sus rostros, rostros de llamas.
9He aquí el día de Jehová viene, crudo, y de saña y ardor de ira, para tornar la tierra en soledad, y raer de ella sus pecadores.
10Por lo cual las estrellas de los cielos y sus luceros no derramarán su lumbre; y el sol se oscurecerá en naciendo, y la luna no echará su resplandor.
11Y visitaré la maldad sobre el mundo, y sobre los impíos su iniquidad; y haré que cese la arrogancia de los soberbios, y abatiré la altivez de los fuertes.
12Haré más precioso que el oro fino al varón, y más que el oro de Ophir al hombre.
13Porque haré estremecer los cielos, y la tierra se moverá de su lugar, en la indignación de Jehová de los ejércitos, y en el día de la ira de su furor.
14Y será que como corza amontada, y como oveja sin pastor, cada cual mirará hacia su pueblo, y cada uno huirá á su tierra.
15Cualquiera que fuere hallado, será alanceado; y cualquiera que á ellos se juntare, caerá á cuchillo.
16Sus niños serán estrellados delante de ellos; sus casas serán saqueadas, y forzadas sus mujeres.
17He aquí que yo despierto contra ellos á los Medos, que no curarán de la plata, ni codiciarán oro.
18Y con arcos tirarán á los niños, y no tendrán misericordia de fruto de vientre, ni su ojo perdonará á hijos.
19Y Babilonia, hermosura de reinos y ornamento de la grandeza de los Caldeos, será como Sodoma y Gomorra, á las que trastornó Dios.
20Nunca más será habitada, ni se morará en ella de generación en generación; ni hincará allí tienda el Arabe, ni pastores tendrán allí majada:
21Sino que dormirán allí bestias fieras, y sus casas se llenarán de hurones, allí habitarán hijas del buho, y allí saltarán peludos.
22Y en sus palacios gritarán gatos cervales, y chacales en sus casas de deleite: y abocado está á venir su tiempo, y sus días no se alargarán.

1The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz did see.
2Lift ye up a banner upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, shake the hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3I have commanded my sanctified ones, I have also called my mighty ones for mine anger, even them that rejoice in my highness.
4The noise of a multitude in the mountains, like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of the kingdoms of nations gathered together: the LORD of hosts mustereth the host of the battle.
5They come from a far country, from the end of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6Howl ye; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.
7Therefore shall all hands be faint, and every man’s heart shall melt:
8And they shall be afraid: pangs and sorrows shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travaileth: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.
9Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, cruel both with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the land desolate: and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.
10For the stars of heaven and the constellations thereof shall not give their light: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not cause her light to shine.
11And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible.
12I will make a man more precious than fine gold; even a man than the golden wedge of Ophir.
13Therefore I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall remove out of her place, in the wrath of the LORD of hosts, and in the day of his fierce anger.
14And it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep that no man taketh up: they shall every man turn to his own people, and flee every one into his own land.
15Every one that is found shall be thrust through; and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.
16Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.
17Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not regard silver; and as for gold, they shall not delight in it.
18Their bows also shall dash the young men to pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare children.
19And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.
21But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.
22And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

1The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.
2Set up a banner on the bare mountain! Lift up your voice to them! Wave your hand, that they may go into the gates of the nobles.
3I have commanded my consecrated ones; yes, I have called my mighty men for my anger, even my proudly exulting ones.
4The noise of a multitude is in the mountains, as of a great people; the noise of an uproar of the kingdoms of the nations gathered together! The LORD of Armies is mustering the army for the battle.
5They come from a far country, from the uttermost part of heaven, even the LORD, and the weapons of his indignation, to destroy the whole land.
6Wail, for the LORD’s day is at hand! It will come as destruction from the Almighty.
7Therefore all hands will be feeble, and everyone’s heart will melt.
8They will be dismayed. Pangs and sorrows will seize them. They will be in pain like a woman in labor. They will look in amazement one at another. Their faces will be faces of flame.
9Behold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger; to make the land a desolation, and to destroy its sinners out of it.
10For the stars of the sky and its constellations will not give their light. The sun will be darkened in its going out, and the moon will not cause its light to shine.
11I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity. I will cause the arrogance of the proud to cease, and will humble the arrogance of the terrible.
12I will make people more rare than fine gold, even a person than the pure gold of Ophir.
13Therefore I will make the heavens tremble, and the earth will be shaken out of its place in the LORD of Armies’ wrath, and in the day of his fierce anger.
14It will happen that like a hunted gazelle and like sheep that no one gathers, they will each turn to their own people, and will each flee to their own land.
15Everyone who is found will be thrust through. Everyone who is captured will fall by the sword.
16Their infants also will be dashed in pieces before their eyes. Their houses will be ransacked, and their wives raped.
17Behold, I will stir up the Medes against them, who will not value silver, and as for gold, they will not delight in it.
18Their bows will dash the young men in pieces; and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb. Their eyes will not spare children.
19Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride, will be like when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.
20It will never be inhabited, neither will it be lived in from generation to generation. The Arabian will not pitch a tent there, neither will shepherds make their flocks lie down there.
21But wild animals of the desert will lie there, and their houses will be full of jackals. Ostriches will dwell there, and wild goats will frolic there.
22Hyenas will cry in their fortresses, and jackals in the pleasant palaces. Her time is near to come, and her days will not be prolonged.
