1Wehe denen, die heillose Verordnungen aufsetzen, und den Schreibern, die nichts als unheilvolle Rechtssatzungen ausfertigen,
2um die Niedrigen vom Rechtsweg abzudrängen und den Geringen meines Volkes ihr Recht vorzuenthalten, damit die Witwen ihre Beute werden und sie die Waisen ausplündern können!
3Was wollt ihr nur tun am Tage der Heimsuchung und bei dem Sturm, der von fern heranzieht? Zu wem wollt ihr um Hilfe fliehen und wo euren Reichtum in Sicherheit bringen?
4Nichts anderes wird euch übrig bleiben, als unter den Gefangenen zusammenzusinken und unter die Erschlagenen niederzufallen. Trotz alledem hat sein Zorn nicht nachgelassen, und sein Arm ist noch immer hoch erhoben.
5Wehe dem Assyrer, dem Stecken meines Zorns, (und) dem, in dessen Hand mein Grimm als Stecken war!
6Gegen eine gottlose Völkerschaft sandte ich ihn, und gegen das Volk, dem ich zürnte, entbot ich ihn, damit er Raub gewinne und sich Beute hole und es zertrete wie Kot auf der Straße.
7Er aber denkt es sich nicht so, und sein Herz ist nicht so gesonnen; nein, zu vertilgen hat er im Sinn und Völker auszurotten in nicht kleiner Zahl.
8Denn er sagt: »Sind nicht meine Statthalter allesamt Könige?
9Ist es nicht Kalno ebenso ergangen wie Karchemis, nicht Hamath wie Arpad, nicht Samaria wie Damaskus?
10Wie meine Hand die Königreiche der Götzen erreicht hat, deren Götterbilder doch denen von Jerusalem und Samaria überlegen waren –
11sollte ich da nicht, wie ich mit Samaria und seinen Göttern verfahren bin, ebenso auch mit Jerusalem und seinen Götterbildern verfahren?«
12Doch wenn einst der Allherr sein ganzes Werk am Berge Zion und an Jerusalem zum Abschluß gebracht hat, wird er auch mit der Frucht des hochmütigen Sinnes des Königs von Assyrien und mit dem hochfahrenden Prahlen seiner Augen Abrechnung halten;
13denn er hat gesagt: »Durch meines Armes Kraft habe ich es vollführt und durch meine Weisheit, weil ich klug bin; ich habe die Grenzen der Völker verschwinden lassen, habe ihre Schätze geplündert und wie ein Starker die Fürsten vom Thron gestürzt.
14Meine Hand hat nach dem Reichtum der Völker gegriffen wie nach einem Vogelnest, und wie man verlassene Eier zusammenrafft, so habe ich die ganze Erde eingesackt, ohne daß einer die Flügel regte oder den Schnabel aufsperrte und auch nur zu piepen wagte.«
15Darf denn die Axt gegen den großtun, der mit ihr haut, oder darf die Säge sich brüsten gegen den, der sie zieht? Als ob der Stab den schwänge, welcher ihn erhebt, als ob der Stecken den aufhöbe, der nicht auch Holz ist!
16Darum wird Gott, der HERR der Heerscharen, die Schwindsucht in Assyriens Wohlbeleibtheit senden, und unter seiner Herrlichkeit wird ein Brand auflodern wie eine Feuersbrunst;
17und zwar wird das Licht Israels zur Lohe werden und sein Heiliger zu einer Flamme, die seine Dornen und sein Gestrüpp in Brand setzt und verzehrt an einem Tage;
18und die Pracht seines Waldes und seines Baumgartens wird er vernichten mit Stumpf und Stiel, so daß es sein wird, wie wenn ein Schwerkranker dahinsiecht.
19Dann wird der Rest seiner Waldbäume leicht zu zählen sein, so daß sogar ein Knabe sie aufschreiben kann.
20An jenem Tage aber wird es geschehen: da wird der Rest Israels und was vom Hause Jakobs entronnen ist, sich nicht länger auf den stützen, der sie jetzt schlägt, sondern sie werden sich auf den HERRN, den Heiligen Israels, in Wahrheit stützen.
21Ein Rest wird sich bekehren, ein bloßer Rest von Jakob, zum Heldengott.
22Denn wenn auch dein Volk, Israel, so zahlreich würde wie der Sand am Meer, so wird sich doch nur ein Rest in ihm bekehren: Vernichtung ist fest beschlossen, sie flutet wie ein Strom mit Gerechtigkeit daher;
23denn Vernichtung, und zwar ein fest beschlossenes Strafgericht, wird Gott, der HERR der Heerscharen, inmitten der ganzen Erde vollziehen.
24Darum hat Gott, der HERR der Heerscharen, so gesprochen: »Fürchte dich nicht, mein Volk, das in Zion wohnt, vor dem Assyrer, wenn er dich mit dem Stock schlagen wird und seinen Stecken gegen dich erhebt wie einst die Ägypter!
25Denn nur noch eine ganz kleine Weile, dann ist mein Grimm zu Ende, und mein Zorn wendet sich zu ihrer Vernichtung.«
26Dann wird der HERR der Heerscharen die Geißel gegen ihn schwingen, wie er einst die Midianiter am Rabenfelsen geschlagen hat, und wird seinen Stab über das Meer ausstrecken und ihn erheben wie einst gegen die Ägypter.
27An jenem Tage wird dann die Last des Assyrers von deinem Rücken weichen und sein Joch von deinem Nacken verschwinden.
28Er rückt heran von Rimmon her, zieht schon auf Ajjath los, kommt bei Migron vorüber, läßt sein Gepäck in Michmas.
29Sie ziehen durch den Engpaß, in Geba nehmen sie Nachtherberge; Rama zittert, Sauls Gibea flieht.
30Schreie laut auf, Bewohnerschaft von Gallim! Horche auf, Laisa! Armes Anathoth!
31Madmena ist zerstoben, die Bewohner von Gebim sind geflüchtet.
32Noch heute wird er Nob besetzen; er streckt schon seine Hand drohend aus gegen den Berg der Bewohnerschaft Zions, gegen den Hügel Jerusalems.
33Siehe, da haut der Allherr, der HERR der Heerscharen, die Laubkronen mit Schreckensgewalt herunter: die hochgewachsenen werden abgeschlagen, und die hochragenden sinken zu Boden.
34Dann wird das Dickicht des Waldes mit dem Eisen niedergehauen, und der Libanon (-wald) stürzt durch einen Gewaltigen zusammen.

1¡AY de los que establecen leyes injustas, y determinando prescriben tiranía,
2Por apartar del juicio á los pobres, y por quitar el derecho á los afligidos de mi pueblo; por despojar las viudas, y robar los huérfanos!
3¿Y qué haréis en el día de la visitación? ¿y á quién os acogeréis que os ayude, cuando viniere de lejos el asolamiento? ¿y en dónde dejaréis vuestra gloria?
4Sin mí se inclinarán entre los presos, y entre los muertos caerán. Ni con todo esto ha cesado su furor, antes todavía extendida su mano.
5Oh Assur, vara y bastón de mi furor: en su mano he puesto mi ira.
6Mandaréle contra una gente fementida, y sobre el pueblo de mi ira le enviaré, para que quite despojos, y arrebate presa, y que lo ponga á ser hollado como lodo de las calles.
7Aunque él no lo pensará así, ni su corazón lo imaginará de esta manera; sino que su pensamiento será desarraigar y cortar gentes no pocas.
8Porque él dice: Mis príncipes ¿no son todos reyes?
9¿No es Calno como Carchêmis, Hamath como Arphad, y Samaria como Damasco?
10Como halló mi mano los reinos de los ídolos, siendo sus imágenes más que Jerusalem y Samaria;
11Como hice á Samaria y á sus ídolos, ¿no haré también así á Jerusalem y á sus ídolos?
12Mas acontecerá que después que el Señor hubiere acabado toda su obra en el monte de Sión, y en Jerusalem, visitaré sobre el fruto de la soberbia del corazón del rey de Asiria, y sobre la gloria de la altivez de sus ojos.
13Porque dijo: Con la fortaleza de mi mano lo he hecho, y con mi sabiduría; porque he sido prudente: y quité los términos de los pueblos, y saqueé sus tesoros, y derribé como valientes los que estaban sentados:
14Y halló mi mano como nido las riquezas de los pueblos; y como se cogen los huevos dejados, así me apoderé yo de toda la tierra; y no hubo quien moviese ala, ó abriese boca y graznase.
15¿Gloriaráse el hacha contra el que con ella corta? ¿se ensoberbecerá la sierra contra el que la mueve? como si el bordón se levantase contra los que lo levantan; como si se levantase la vara: ¿no es leño?
16Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos enviará flaqueza sobre sus gordos; y debajo de su gloria encenderá encendimiento, como ardor de fuego.
17Y la luz de Israel será por fuego, y su Santo por llama que abrase y consuma en un día sus cardos y sus espinas.
18La gloria de su bosque y de su campo fértil consumirá, desde el alma hasta la carne: y vendrá á ser como abanderado en derrota.
19Y los árboles que quedaren en su bosque, serán en número que un niño los pueda contar.
20Y acontecerá en aquel tiempo, que los que hubieren quedado de Israel, y los que hubieren quedado de la casa de Jacob, nunca más estriben sobre el que los hirió; sino que se apoyarán con verdad en Jehová Santo de Israel.
21Las reliquias se convertirán, las reliquias de Jacob, al Dios fuerte.
22Porque si tu pueblo, oh Israel, fuere como las arenas de la mar, las reliquias de él se convertirán: la destrucción acordada rebosará justicia.
23Pues el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos hará consumación y fenecimiento en medio de la tierra.
24Por tanto el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos dice así: Pueblo mío, morador de Sión, no temas de Assur. Con vara te herirá, y contra ti alzará su palo, á la manera de Egipto:
25Mas de aquí á muy poco tiempo, se acabará el furor y mi enojo, para fenecimiento de ellos.
26Y levantará Jehová de los ejércitos azote contra él, cual la matanza de Madián en la peña de Oreb: y alzará su vara sobre la mar, según hizo por la vía de Egipto.
27Y acaecerá en aquel tiempo, que su carga será quitada de tu hombro, y su yugo de tu cerviz, y el yugo se empodrecerá por causa de la unción.
28Vino hasta Ajad, pasó hasta Migrón; en Michmas contará su ejército:
29Pasaron el vado; alojaron en Geba: Ramá tembló; Gabaa de Saúl huyó.
30Grita en alta voz, hija de Galim; haz que se oiga hacia Lais, pobrecilla Anathoth.
31Madmena se alborotó: los moradores de Gebim se juntarán.
32Aún vendrá día cuando reposará en Nob: alzará su mano al monte de la hija de Sión, al collado de Jerusalem.
33He aquí el Señor Jehová de los ejércitos desgajará el ramo con fortaleza: y los de grande altura serán cortados, y los altos serán humillados.
34Y cortará con hierro la espesura del bosque, y el Líbano caerá con fortaleza.

1Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed;
2To turn aside the needy from judgment, and to take away the right from the poor of my people, that widows may be their prey, and that they may rob the fatherless!
3And what will ye do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which shall come from far? to whom will ye flee for help? and where will ye leave your glory?
4Without me they shall bow down under the prisoners, and they shall fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
5O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
6I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
8For he saith, Are not my princes altogether kings?
9Is not Calno as Carchemish? is not Hamath as Arpad? is not Samaria as Damascus?
10As my hand hath found the kingdoms of the idols, and whose graven images did excel them of Jerusalem and of Samaria;
11Shall I not, as I have done unto Samaria and her idols, so do to Jerusalem and her idols?
12Wherefore it shall come to pass, that when the Lord hath performed his whole work upon mount Zion and on Jerusalem, I will punish the fruit of the stout heart of the king of Assyria, and the glory of his high looks.
13For he saith, By the strength of my hand I have done it, and by my wisdom; for I am prudent: and I have removed the bounds of the people, and have robbed their treasures, and I have put down the inhabitants like a valiant man:
14And my hand hath found as a nest the riches of the people: and as one gathereth eggs that are left, have I gathered all the earth; and there was none that moved the wing, or opened the mouth, or peeped.
15Shall the axe boast itself against him that heweth therewith? or shall the saw magnify itself against him that shaketh it? as if the rod should shake itself against them that lift it up, or as if the staff should lift up itself, as if it were no wood.
16Therefore shall the Lord, the Lord of hosts, send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory he shall kindle a burning like the burning of a fire.
17And the light of Israel shall be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame: and it shall burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day;
18And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitful field, both soul and body: and they shall be as when a standardbearer fainteth.
19And the rest of the trees of his forest shall be few, that a child may write them.
20And it shall come to pass in that day, that the remnant of Israel, and such as are escaped of the house of Jacob, shall no more again stay upon him that smote them; but shall stay upon the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, in truth.
21The remnant shall return, even the remnant of Jacob, unto the mighty God.
22For though thy people Israel be as the sand of the sea, yet a remnant of them shall return: the consumption decreed shall overflow with righteousness.
23For the Lord GOD of hosts shall make a consumption, even determined, in the midst of all the land.
24Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD of hosts, O my people that dwellest in Zion, be not afraid of the Assyrian: he shall smite thee with a rod, and shall lift up his staff against thee, after the manner of Egypt.
25For yet a very little while, and the indignation shall cease, and mine anger in their destruction.
26And the LORD of hosts shall stir up a scourge for him according to the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb: and as his rod was upon the sea, so shall he lift it up after the manner of Egypt.
27And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing.
28He is come to Aiath, he is passed to Migron; at Michmash he hath laid up his carriages:
29They are gone over the passage: they have taken up their lodging at Geba; Ramah is afraid; Gibeah of Saul is fled.
30Lift up thy voice, O daughter of Gallim: cause it to be heard unto Laish, O poor Anathoth.
31Madmenah is removed; the inhabitants of Gebim gather themselves to flee.
32As yet shall he remain at Nob that day: he shall shake his hand against the mount of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33Behold, the Lord, the LORD of hosts, shall lop the bough with terror: and the high ones of stature shall be hewn down, and the haughty shall be humbled.
34And he shall cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon shall fall by a mighty one.

1Woe to those who decree unrighteous decrees, and to the writers who write oppressive decrees
2to deprive the needy of justice, and to rob the poor among my people of their rights, that widows may be their plunder, and that they may make the fatherless their prey!
3What will you do in the day of visitation, and in the desolation which will come from afar? To whom will you flee for help? Where will you leave your wealth?
4They will only bow down under the prisoners, and will fall under the slain. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.
5Alas Assyrian, the rod of my anger, the staff in whose hand is my indignation!
6I will send him against a profane nation, and against the people who anger me I will give him a command to take the plunder and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7However, he doesn’t mean so, neither does his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy, and to cut off not a few nations.
8For he says, “Aren’t all of my princes kings?

15Should an ax brag against him who chops with it? Should a saw exalt itself above him who saws with it? As if a rod should lift those who lift it up, or as if a staff should lift up someone who is not wood.
16Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, will send among his fat ones leanness; and under his glory a burning will be kindled like the burning of fire.
17The light of Israel will be for a fire, and his Holy One for a flame; and it will burn and devour his thorns and his briers in one day.

22For though your people, Israel, are like the sand of the sea, only a remnant of them will return. A destruction is determined, overflowing with righteousness.
23For the Lord, GOD of Armies, will make a full end, and that determined, throughout all the earth.
24Therefore the Lord, GOD of Armies, says, “My people who dwell in Zion, don’t be afraid of the Assyrian, though he strike you with the rod, and lift up his staff against you, as Egypt did.
25For yet a very little while, and the indignation against you will be accomplished, and my anger will be directed to his destruction.”
26The LORD of Armies will stir up a scourge against him, as in the slaughter of Midian at the rock of Oreb. His rod will be over the sea, and he will lift it up like he did against Egypt.
27It will happen in that day that his burden will depart from off your shoulder, and his yoke from off your neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing oil.
28He has come to Aiath. He has passed through Migron. At Michmash he stores his baggage.
29They have gone over the pass. They have taken up their lodging at Geba. Ramah trembles. Gibeah of Saul has fled.
30Cry aloud with your voice, daughter of Gallim! Listen, Laishah! You poor Anathoth!
31Madmenah is a fugitive. The inhabitants of Gebim flee for safety.
32This very day he will halt at Nob. He shakes his hand at the mountain of the daughter of Zion, the hill of Jerusalem.
33Behold, the Lord, GOD of Armies, will lop the boughs with terror. The tall will be cut down, and the lofty will be brought low.
34He will cut down the thickets of the forest with iron, and Lebanon will fall by the Mighty One.
