1Wenn Ephraim redete, herrschte Schrecken; groß stand er da in Israel; als er sich aber mit dem Baal versündigte, fing er an zu sterben.
2Und nun fahren sie fort zu sündigen und gießen sich Bilder aus ihrem Silber, Götzen nach ihrer Erfindung, allesamt ein Machwerk von Künstlern; von ihnen sagen sie, die opfernden Menschen: «Man soll die Kälber küssen!»
3Darum werden sie sein wie eine Morgenwolke und wie der Tau, der früh vergeht, wie die Spreu, die von der Tenne verweht wird, und wie der Rauch aus dem Kamin!
4Ich aber bin der HERR, dein Gott, vom Lande Ägypten her, und außer mir kennst du keinen Gott, und es gibt keinen Retter als mich allein!
5Ich nahm deiner wahr in der Wüste, im dürren Land.
6Als sie aber Weide fanden, wurden sie satt; und als sie satt wurden, erhob sich ihr Herz; darum vergaßen sie mich.
7Da ward ich gegen sie wie ein Löwe und lauerte wie ein Panther am Wege;
8ich überfiel sie wie eine Bärin, der man die Jungen geraubt, und zerriß ihnen den Brustkasten und fraß sie daselbst wie ein Löwe; wie ein wildes Tier zerriß ich sie.
9Das ist dein Verderben, Israel, daß du gegen mich, deine Hilfe, bist!
10Wo ist denn nun dein König, daß er dir helfe in allen deinen Städten, und wo sind deine Richter? Denn du hast ja gesagt: «Gib mir einen König und Fürsten!»
11Ich gab dir einen König in meinem Zorn und nehme ihn weg in meinem Grimm!
12Ephraims Schuld ist zusammengebunden, seine Sünde ist aufbehalten.
13Geburtswehen werden ihn ankommen; er ist ein unverständiges Kind; denn zur rechten Zeit stellt er sich nicht ein zur Geburt!
14Ich will sie erlösen aus der Gewalt des Totenreichs, vom Tode will ich sie loskaufen. Tod, wo ist dein Verderben? Totenreich, wo ist dein Sieg? Mitleid muß verschwinden vor mir!
15Denn sollte er auch Frucht tragen unter den Brüdern, so wird ein Ostwind kommen, ein Wind des HERRN von der Wüste herauf, so daß sein Brunnen vertrocknet und sein Quell versiegt. Er wird den Schatz aller kostbaren Geräte berauben.
16(014-1) Samaria muß es büßen; denn es hat sich wider seinen Gott empört; durchs Schwert sollen sie fallen; ihre Kindlein sollen zerschmettert und die Schwangeren aufgeschlitzt werden!

1CUANDO Ephraim hablaba, hubo temor; fué ensalzado en Israel; mas pecó en Baal, y murió.
2Y ahora añadieron á su pecado, y de su plata se han hecho según su entendimiento, estatuas de fundición, ídolos, toda obra de artífices; acerca de los cuales dicen á los hombres que sacrifican, que besen los becerros.
3Por tanto serán como la niebla de la mañana, y como el rocío de la madrugada que se pasa; como el tamo que la tempestad arroja de la era, y como el humo que de la chimenea sale.
4Mas yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto: no conocerás pues Dios fuera de mí, ni otro Salvador sino á mí.
5Yo te conocí en el desierto, en tierra seca.
6En sus pastos se hartaron, hartáronse, y ensoberbecióse su corazón: por esta causa se olvidaron de mí.
7Por tanto, yo seré para ellos como león; como un leopardo en el camino los espiaré.
8Como oso que ha perdido los hijos los encontraré, y romperé las telas de su corazón, y allí los devoraré como león: bestia del campo los despedazará.
9Te perdiste, oh Israel, mas en mí está tu ayuda.
10¿Dónde está tu rey, para que te guarde con todas tus ciudades? ¿y tus jueces, de los cuales dijiste: Dame rey y príncipes?
11Díte rey en mi furor, y quitélo en mi ira.
12Atada está la maldad de Ephraim; su pecado está guardado.
13Dolores de mujer de parto le vendrán: es un hijo ignorante, que de otra manera no estuviera tanto tiempo en el rompimiento de los hijos.
14De la mano del sepulcro los redimiré, librarélos de la muerte. Oh muerte, yo seré tu muerte; y seré tu destrucción, oh sepulcro; arrepentimiento será escondido de mis ojos.
15Aunque él fructificará entre los hermanos, vendrá el solano, viento de Jehová, subiendo de la parte del desierto, y secarse ha su vena, y secaráse su manadero: él saqueará el tesoro de todas las preciosas alhajas.
16Samaria será asolada, porque se rebeló contra su Dios: caerán á cuchillo: sus niños serán estrellados, y sus preñadas serán abiertas.

1When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
2And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
3Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
4Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
5I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
7Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
9O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
10I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
11I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.
12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
14I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
15Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
16Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

1When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling. He exalted himself in Israel, but when he became guilty through Baal, he died.
2Now they sin more and more, and have made themselves molten images of their silver, even idols according to their own understanding, all of them the work of the craftsmen. They say of them, ‘They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’
3Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the dew that passes away early, like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and like the smoke out of the chimney.
4“Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall acknowledge no god but me, and besides me there is no savior.
5I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me.
7Therefore I am like a lion to them. Like a leopard, I will lurk by the path.
8I will meet them like a bear that is bereaved of her cubs, and will tear the covering of their heart. There I will devour them like a lioness. The wild animal will tear them.
9You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your helper.
10Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?
11I have given you a king in my anger, and have taken him away in my wrath.
12The guilt of Ephraim is stored up. His sin is stored up.
13The sorrows of a travailing woman will come on him. He is an unwise son, for when it is time, he doesn’t come to the opening of the womb.
14I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death! Death, where are your plagues? Sheol, where is your destruction? “Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.
15Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come, the breath of the LORD coming up from the wilderness; and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up. He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.
16Samaria will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.”
