1When Ephraim spoke, there was terror; he was exalted in Israel, but he incurred guilt through Baal and died.
2And now they sin again, and they make for themselves a molten idol, idols from their silver metal according to their understanding, all of them the work of skilled craftsmen. To these they say, “Sacrifice!” People are kissing bull calves.
3Therefore, they will be like the morning cloud, and like the dew of early morning going away, like chaff swirling from the threshing floor, or like smoke from a window.
4I am Yahweh your God since the land of Egypt; you know no god except me, and no one saves besides me.
5I fed you in the desert, in the land of drought.
6When I fed them, they were satisfied; they were satisfied and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot me.
7And I will be like a lion to them; I lie in wait beside the way, like a leopard.
8I will attack them like a bear robbed of her offspring, and I will tear open the covering of their heart; there I will devour them like a lion, like an animal of the field would mutilate them.
9I will destroy you, O Israel; who will help you?
10Where now is your king that he may save you? Where in all your cities are your judges, of whom you said, “Give to me a king and rulers?”
11I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him in my wrath.
12The sin of Ephraim is wrapped up; his sin is concealed.
13The labor pains of childbirth come for him; he is an unwise son because at the proper time, he does not present himself ⌞at the mouth of the womb⌟.
14Should I redeem them from ⌞the power⌟ of Sheol? Should I deliver them from death? Where are your plagues, O Death? Where is your destruction, O Sheol? Compassion is hidden from my eyes.
15Although he may flourish among reeds, the east wind will come, a wind of Yahweh rising from the desert; his fountain will dry up, his spring will be parched. It will plunder his treasury, every object of desire.
16Samaria will be guilty, because she has rebelled against her God; they will fall by the sword, their children will be dashed to pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.

1CUANDO Ephraim hablaba, hubo temor; fué ensalzado en Israel; mas pecó en Baal, y murió.
2Y ahora añadieron á su pecado, y de su plata se han hecho según su entendimiento, estatuas de fundición, ídolos, toda obra de artífices; acerca de los cuales dicen á los hombres que sacrifican, que besen los becerros.
3Por tanto serán como la niebla de la mañana, y como el rocío de la madrugada que se pasa; como el tamo que la tempestad arroja de la era, y como el humo que de la chimenea sale.
4Mas yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto: no conocerás pues Dios fuera de mí, ni otro Salvador sino á mí.
5Yo te conocí en el desierto, en tierra seca.
6En sus pastos se hartaron, hartáronse, y ensoberbecióse su corazón: por esta causa se olvidaron de mí.
7Por tanto, yo seré para ellos como león; como un leopardo en el camino los espiaré.
8Como oso que ha perdido los hijos los encontraré, y romperé las telas de su corazón, y allí los devoraré como león: bestia del campo los despedazará.
9Te perdiste, oh Israel, mas en mí está tu ayuda.
10¿Dónde está tu rey, para que te guarde con todas tus ciudades? ¿y tus jueces, de los cuales dijiste: Dame rey y príncipes?
11Díte rey en mi furor, y quitélo en mi ira.
12Atada está la maldad de Ephraim; su pecado está guardado.
13Dolores de mujer de parto le vendrán: es un hijo ignorante, que de otra manera no estuviera tanto tiempo en el rompimiento de los hijos.
14De la mano del sepulcro los redimiré, librarélos de la muerte. Oh muerte, yo seré tu muerte; y seré tu destrucción, oh sepulcro; arrepentimiento será escondido de mis ojos.
15Aunque él fructificará entre los hermanos, vendrá el solano, viento de Jehová, subiendo de la parte del desierto, y secarse ha su vena, y secaráse su manadero: él saqueará el tesoro de todas las preciosas alhajas.
16Samaria será asolada, porque se rebeló contra su Dios: caerán á cuchillo: sus niños serán estrellados, y sus preñadas serán abiertas.

1When Ephraim spake trembling, he exalted himself in Israel; but when he offended in Baal, he died.
2And now they sin more and more, and have made them molten images of their silver, and idols according to their own understanding, all of it the work of the craftsmen: they say of them, Let the men that sacrifice kiss the calves.
3Therefore they shall be as the morning cloud, and as the early dew that passeth away, as the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the floor, and as the smoke out of the chimney.
4Yet I am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt, and thou shalt know no god but me: for there is no saviour beside me.
5I did know thee in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten me.
7Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them:
8I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them.
9O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help.
10I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes?
11I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath.
12The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
13The sorrows of a travailing woman shall come upon him: he is an unwise son; for he should not stay long in the place of the breaking forth of children.
14I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.
15Though he be fruitful among his brethren, an east wind shall come, the wind of the LORD shall come up from the wilderness, and his spring shall become dry, and his fountain shall be dried up: he shall spoil the treasure of all pleasant vessels.
16Samaria shall become desolate; for she hath rebelled against her God: they shall fall by the sword: their infants shall be dashed in pieces, and their women with child shall be ripped up.

3Therefore they will be like the morning mist, like the dew that passes away early, like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor, and like the smoke out of the chimney.
4“Yet I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt; and you shall acknowledge no god but me, and besides me there is no savior.
5I knew you in the wilderness, in the land of great drought.
6According to their pasture, so were they filled; they were filled, and their heart was exalted. Therefore they have forgotten me.
7Therefore I am like a lion to them. Like a leopard, I will lurk by the path.
8I will meet them like a bear that is bereaved of her cubs, and will tear the covering of their heart. There I will devour them like a lioness. The wild animal will tear them.
9You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your helper.
10Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities? And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?

12The guilt of Ephraim is stored up. His sin is stored up.
13The sorrows of a travailing woman will come on him. He is an unwise son, for when it is time, he doesn’t come to the opening of the womb.
14I will ransom them from the power of Sheol. I will redeem them from death! Death, where are your plagues? Sheol, where is your destruction? “Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.
15Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come, the breath of the LORD coming up from the wilderness; and his spring will become dry, and his fountain will be dried up. He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.
16Samaria will bear her guilt, for she has rebelled against her God. They will fall by the sword. Their infants will be dashed in pieces, and their pregnant women will be ripped open.”
