1"Doch jetzt umgibt mich Ephraim mit Lug, mit Trug das Haus von Israel." Doch Juda geht noch immerhin mit Gott und hält dem Heiligen die Treue.
2"Nach Sturm geht Ephraims Verlangen; dem Ostwind jagt es nach. Den ganzen Tag lang häuft es Lüge und Verderben. Bald schließt es einen Bund mit Assur; bald bringt es nachägypten Öl."
3Jedoch mit Juda muß der Herr auch rechten. - Nach seinem Wandel aber straft er Jakob, um ihm nach seinen Werken zu vergelten.
4"Im Mutterschoße schon betrog er seinen Bruder.
5Er kämpfte gegen einen Engel und obsiegte, nachdem er unter Tränen ihn um Gnade angefleht. Zu Betel hat er wieder ihn gefunden und dort mit ihm geredet."
6"Der Herr, Gott der Heerscharen Herr", das ist sein Name.
7Doch kehre um zu deinem Gott! Befleiße dich der Tugend und Gerechtigkeit! Und hoffe stets auf deinen Gott!
8"Falschwaage hält der Kanaaniter in der Hand; er liebt Betrügerei."
9Da sagt nun Ephraim: "Auch ich bin reich geworden; ich habe Schätze mir erworben. An allem, was ich mühevoll errang, ist kein Vergehn zu finden, das da Sünde wäre."
10"Ich, der Herr, ich bin dein Gott vom Land Ägypten her. In Zelten laß ich wiederum dich wohnen wie in den Tagen der Versammlung.
11Ich rede abermals zu den Propheten, laß ein Gesicht aufs andere folgen und lehre auch in Gleichnissen durch die Propheten."
12Gileads Schandbilder sind eitel Eitelkeit; in Gilgal schlachten sie zum Opfer Knaben; Altäre haben sie so viel wie Haufen Steine auf den Furchen ihrer Äcker.
13"In Syriens Gefilde floh einst Jakob, und um ein Weib ward Israel ein Knecht, und um ein Weib hat er gehütet."
14Durch einen Seher aber hat der Herr einst Israel aus dem Ägypterland herausgeführt; durch einen Seher ward's gehütet. Doch hat ihm bittern Kummer Ephraim bereitet; drum wird er seine Blutschuld auf ihm lassen, und ahnden wird der Herr an ihm die zugefügte Schmach.

1CERCÓME Ephraim con mentira, y la casa de Israel con engaño: mas Judá aun domina con Dios, y es fiel con los santos.
2Ephraim se apacienta del viento, y sigue al solano: mentira y destrucción aumenta continuamente; porque hicieron alianza con los Asirios, y aceite se lleva á Egipto.
3Pleito tiene Jehová con Judá para visitar á Jacob conforme á sus caminos: pagarále conforme á sus obras.
4En el vientre tomó por el calcañar á su hermano, y con su fortaleza venció al ángel.
5Venció al ángel, y prevaleció; lloró, y rogóle: en Beth-el le halló, y allí habló con nosotros.
6Mas Jehová es Dios de los ejércitos: Jehová es su memorial.
7Tú pues, conviértete á tu Dios: guarda misericordia y juicio, y en tu Dios espera siempre.
8Es mercader que tiene en su mano peso falso, amador de opresión.
9Y dijo Ephraim: Ciertamente yo he enriquecido, hallado he riquezas para mí: nadie hallará en mí iniquidad, ni pecado en todos mis trabajos.
10Empero yo soy Jehová tu Dios desde la tierra de Egipto: aun te haré morar en tiendas, como en los días de la fiesta.
11Y hablado he á los profetas, y yo aumenté la profecía, y por mano de los profetas puse semejanzas.
12¿Es Galaad iniquidad? Ciertamente vanidad han sido: en Gilgal sacrificaron bueyes: y aun son sus altares como montones en los surcos del campo.
13Mas Jacob huyó á tierra de Aram, y sirvió Israel por mujer, y por mujer fué pastor.
14Y por profeta hizo subir Jehová á Israel de Egipto, y por profeta fué guardado. Enojado ha Ephraim á Dios con amarguras; por tanto, sus sangres se derramarán sobre él, y su Señor le pagará su oprobio.

1Ephraim feedeth on wind, and followeth after the east wind: he daily increaseth lies and desolation; and they do make a covenant with the Assyrians, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2The LORD hath also a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his doings will he recompense him.
3He took his brother by the heel in the womb, and by his strength he had power with God:
4Yea, he had power over the angel, and prevailed: he wept, and made supplication unto him: he found him in Beth-el, and there he spake with us;
5Even the LORD God of hosts; the LORD is his memorial.
6Therefore turn thou to thy God: keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.
7He is a merchant, the balances of deceit are in his hand: he loveth to oppress.
8And Ephraim said, Yet I am become rich, I have found me out substance: in all my labours they shall find none iniquity in me that were sin.
9And I that am the LORD thy God from the land of Egypt will yet make thee to dwell in tabernacles, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10I have also spoken by the prophets, and I have multiplied visions, and used similitudes, by the ministry of the prophets.
11Is there iniquity in Gilead? surely they are vanity: they sacrifice bullocks in Gilgal; yea, their altars are as heaps in the furrows of the fields.
12And Jacob fled into the country of Syria, and Israel served for a wife, and for a wife he kept sheep.
13And by a prophet the LORD brought Israel out of Egypt, and by a prophet was he preserved.
14Ephraim provoked him to anger most bitterly: therefore shall he leave his blood upon him, and his reproach shall his Lord return unto him.

1Ephraim feeds on wind, and chases the east wind. He continually multiplies lies and desolation. They make a covenant with Assyria, and oil is carried into Egypt.
2The LORD also has a controversy with Judah, and will punish Jacob according to his ways; according to his deeds he will repay him.
3In the womb he took his brother by the heel, and in his manhood he contended with God.
4Indeed, he struggled with the angel, and prevailed; he wept, and made supplication to him. He found him at Bethel, and there he spoke with us—
5even the LORD, the God of Armies. The LORD is his name of renown!
6Therefore turn to your God. Keep kindness and justice, and wait continually for your God.
7A merchant has dishonest scales in his hand. He loves to defraud.
8Ephraim said, “Surely I have become rich. I have found myself wealth. In all my wealth they won’t find in me any iniquity that is sin.”
9“But I am the LORD your God from the land of Egypt. I will yet again make you dwell in tents, as in the days of the solemn feast.
10I have also spoken to the prophets, and I have multiplied visions; and by the ministry of the prophets I have used parables.
11If Gilead is wicked, surely they are worthless. In Gilgal they sacrifice bulls. Indeed, their altars are like heaps in the furrows of the field.
12Jacob fled into the country of Aram. Israel served to get a wife. For a wife he tended flocks and herds.
13By a prophet the LORD brought Israel up out of Egypt, and by a prophet he was preserved.
14Ephraim has bitterly provoked anger. Therefore his blood will be left on him, and his Lord will repay his contempt.
