1Israël est une vigne dépouillée. On lui avait prodigué les fruits: à mesure que ses fruits augmentaient, il multipliait les autels; plus son pays était prospère, plus ils érigeaient de belles stèles.
2Leur cœur s'est partagé, ils en portent la peine maintenant; Lui-même abattra leurs autels, ruinera leurs stèles.
3Ils disent bien à présent: "De roi, nous n'en avons point! Car nous ne craignons pas l'Eternel, et le roi, à quoi peut-il nous servir?"
4Ils débitent de vains discours, des serments frauduleux, contractent des alliances, et le droit est comme une plante vénéneuse poussant dans les sillons des champs.
5Pour le veau de Beth-Awên, les habitants de Samarie tremblent; oui, ses fidèles sont en deuil à son sujet, ainsi que ses prêtres qui naguère se réjouissaient en lui; car le voilà dépouillé de son éclat.
6Lui-même, on le transporte en Assyrie, comme présent au roi Protecteur ; Ephraïm en recueille la honte, Israël est confus de sa résolution.
7Samarie est réduite à rien de même que son roi, tel un morceau de bois à la surface de l'eau.
8Les hauts-lieux criminels, le péché visible d'Israël, sont détruits; des ronces et des chardons poussent sur leurs autels. Alors ils diront aux montagnes: "Recouvrez-nous!" et aux collines: "Tombez sur nous!"
9Plus qu'aux jours de Ghibea, tu as prévariqué, ô Israël! S'ils s'étaient trouvés là, n'auraient-ils pas été atteints à Ghibea par la guerre dirigée contre les fils de l'iniquité?
10Au gré de mon désir, je veux les châtier; ils verront des peuples s'attrouper contre eux, pour s'être attachés à leurs deux péchés.
11Ephraïm est une génisse bien dressée, aimant à fouler le blé; mais moi, je passerai sur son cou superbe, je ferai atteler Ephraïm; il faudra que Juda laboure, que Jacob traîne la herse.
12Faites vos semailles selon la justice et vous moissonnerez selon la loi d'amour; tracez-vous des sillons. C'est l'heure de se mettre en quête de l'Eternel, pour qu'il vienne verser sur vous le salut.
13Mais vous avez cultivé l'iniquité et récolté le mal; vous avez mangé le fruit de la tromperie; car tu as eu confiance en ta conduite, dans la multitude de tes guerriers.
14Aussi le tumulte de la guerre éclatera-t-il contre tes troupes, et toutes tes forteresses seront-elles ruinées, comme Salmân a détruit Beth-Arbêl au jour du combat, où les mères furent écrasées avec leurs enfants.
15Voilà le sort que vous prépare Béthel, à cause de l'excès de votre perversité. Dès le lever de l'aurore, c'en est complètement fini du roi d'Israël.

1ES Israel una frondosa viña, haciendo fruto para sí: conforme á la multiplicación de su fruto multiplicó altares, conforme á la bondad de su tierra aumentaron sus estatuas.
2Dividióse su corazón. Ahora serán hallados culpables: él quebrantará sus altares, asolará sus estatuas.
3Porque dirán ahora: No tenemos rey, porque no temimos á Jehová: ¿y qué haría el rey por nosotros?
4Han hablado palabras jurando en vano al hacer alianza: por tanto, el juicio florecerá como ajenjo en los surcos del campo.
5Por las becerras de Beth-aven serán atemorizados los moradores de Samaria: porque su pueblo lamentará á causa del becerro, y sus sacerdotes que en él se regocijaban por su gloria, la cual será disipada.
6Y aun será él llevado á Asiria en presente al rey Jareb: Ephraim será avergonzado, é Israel será confuso de su consejo.
7De Samaria fué cortado su rey como la espuma sobre la superficie de las aguas.
8Y los altares de Avén serán destruídos, el pecado de Israel; crecerá sobre sus altares espino y cardo. Y dirán á los montes: Cubridnos; y á los collados: Caed sobre nosotros.
9Desde los días de Gabaa has pecado, oh Israel: allí estuvieron: no los tomó la batalla en Gabaa contra los inicuos.
10Y los castigaré como deseo: y pueblos se juntarán sobre ellos cuando serán atados en sus dos surcos.
11Ephraim es becerra domada, amadora del trillar; mas yo pasaré sobre su lozana cerviz: yo haré llevar yugo á Ephraim; arará Judá, quebrará sus terrones Jacob.
12Sembrad para vosotros en justicia, segad para vosotros en misericordia; arad para vosotros barbecho: porque es el tiempo de buscar á Jehová, hasta que venga y os enseñe justicia.
13Habéis arado impiedad, segasteis iniquidad: comeréis fruto de mentira: porque confiaste en tu camino, en la multitud de tus fuertes.
14Por tanto, en tus pueblos se levantará alboroto, y todas tus fortalezas serán destruídas, como destruyó Salmán á Beth-arbel el día de la batalla: la madre fué arrojada sobre los hijos.
15Así hará á vosotros Beth-el por la maldad de vuestra maldad: en la mañana será del todo cortado el rey de Israel.
King James Version
1Israel is an empty vine, he bringeth forth fruit unto himself: according to the multitude of his fruit he hath increased the altars; according to the goodness of his land they have made goodly images.
2Their heart is divided; now shall they be found faulty: he shall break down their altars, he shall spoil their images.
3For now they shall say, We have no king, because we feared not the LORD; what then should a king do to us?
4They have spoken words, swearing falsely in making a covenant: thus judgment springeth up as hemlock in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria shall fear because of the calves of Beth-aven: for the people thereof shall mourn over it, and the priests thereof that rejoiced on it, for the glory thereof, because it is departed from it.
6It shall be also carried unto Assyria for a present to king Jareb: Ephraim shall receive shame, and Israel shall be ashamed of his own counsel.
7As for Samaria, her king is cut off as the foam upon the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, shall be destroyed: the thorn and the thistle shall come up on their altars; and they shall say to the mountains, Cover us; and to the hills, Fall on us.
9O Israel, thou hast sinned from the days of Gibeah: there they stood: the battle in Gibeah against the children of iniquity did not overtake them.
10It is in my desire that I should chastise them; and the people shall be gathered against them, when they shall bind themselves in their two furrows.
11And Ephraim is as an heifer that is taught, and loveth to tread out the corn; but I passed over upon her fair neck: I will make Ephraim to ride; Judah shall plow, and Jacob shall break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
13Ye have plowed wickedness, ye have reaped iniquity; ye have eaten the fruit of lies: because thou didst trust in thy way, in the multitude of thy mighty men.
14Therefore shall a tumult arise among thy people, and all thy fortresses shall be spoiled, as Shalman spoiled Beth-arbel in the day of battle: the mother was dashed in pieces upon her children.
15So shall Beth-el do unto you because of your great wickedness: in a morning shall the king of Israel utterly be cut off.
World English Bible
1Israel is a luxuriant vine that produces his fruit. According to the abundance of his fruit he has multiplied his altars. As their land has prospered, they have adorned their sacred stones.
2Their heart is divided. Now they will be found guilty. He will demolish their altars. He will destroy their sacred stones.
3Surely now they will say, “We have no king; for we don’t fear the LORD; and the king, what can he do for us?”
4They make promises, swearing falsely in making covenants. Therefore judgment springs up like poisonous weeds in the furrows of the field.
5The inhabitants of Samaria will be in terror for the calves of Beth Aven, for its people will mourn over it, along with its priests who rejoiced over it, for its glory, because it has departed from it.
6It also will be carried to Assyria for a present to a great king. Ephraim will receive shame, and Israel will be ashamed of his own counsel.
7Samaria and her king float away like a twig on the water.
8The high places also of Aven, the sin of Israel, will be destroyed. The thorn and the thistle will come up on their altars. They will tell the mountains, “Cover us!” and the hills, “Fall on us!”
9“Israel, you have sinned from the days of Gibeah. There they remained. The battle against the children of iniquity doesn’t overtake them in Gibeah.
10When it is my desire, I will chastise them; and the nations will be gathered against them when they are bound to their two transgressions.
11Ephraim is a trained heifer that loves to thresh, so I will put a yoke on her beautiful neck. I will set a rider on Ephraim. Judah will plow. Jacob will break his clods.
12Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap according to kindness. Break up your fallow ground, for it is time to seek the LORD, until he comes and rains righteousness on you.
13You have plowed wickedness. You have reaped iniquity. You have eaten the fruit of lies, for you trusted in your way, in the multitude of your mighty men.
14Therefore a battle roar will arise among your people, and all your fortresses will be destroyed, as Shalman destroyed Beth Arbel in the day of battle. The mother was dashed in pieces with her children.
15So Bethel will do to you because of your great wickedness. At daybreak the king of Israel will be destroyed.
