1poniendo siempre los ojos en Jesús , autor y consumador de la fe, el cual en vista del gozo que le estaba preparado en la gloria sufrió la cruz, sin hacer caso de la ignominia, y en premio está sentado a la diestra del trono de Dios.
2Considerad, pues, atentamente a aquel Señor que sufrió tal contradicción de los pecadores contra su misma persona, a fin de que no desmayéis, perdiendo vuestros ánimos.
3Pues aun no habéis resistido hasta derramar la sangre, como Jesucristo, combatiendo contra el pecado;
4sino que os habéis olvidado ya de las palabras de consuelo, que os dirige Dios como a hijos, diciendo en la Escritura. Hijo mío, no desprecies la corrección o castigo del Señor, ni caigas de ánimo cuando te reprende.
5Porque el Señor al que ama, le castiga; y a cualquiera que recibe por hijo suyo, le azota y le prueba con adversidades.
6Sufrid, pues, y aguantad firmes, la corrección. Dios se porta con vosotros como con hijos. Porque ¿cuál es el hijo a quien su padre no corrige?
7Que si estáis fuera de la corrección o castigo, de que todos los justos participaron, bien se ve que sois bastardos, y no hijos legítimos.
8Por otra parte, si tuvimos a nuestros padres carnales que nos corrigieron, y los respetábamos, y amábamos, ¿no es mucho más justo que obedezcamos al Padre de los espíritus, para alcanzar la vida eterna?
9Y a la verdad aquellos por pocos días no castigaban a su arbitrio; pero éste nos amaestra en aquello que sirve para hacernos santos.
10Es indudable que toda corrección, por lo pronto parece que no trae gozo, sino pena; mas después producirá en los que son labrados con ella fruto apacibilísimo de justicia.
11Por tanto, volved a levantar vuestras manos lánguidas y caídas, y fortificad vuestras rodillas debilitadas;
12marchad con paso firme por el recto camino, a fin de que alguno por andar claudicando en la fe no se aparte de ella, sino antes bien se corrija.
13Procurad tener paz con todos, y la santidad de vida, sin la cual nadie puede ver a Dios,
14atendiendo a que ninguno se aparte de la gracia de Dios, que ninguna raíz de amargura brotando fuera y extendiendo sus ramas sofoque la buena semilla, y por dicha raíz se contaminen muchos.
15Ninguno sea fornicario, ni tampoco profano como Esaú, que por un potaje o plato de comida vendió su primogenitura.
16Pues tened entendido que después, por más que pretendía ser heredero de la bendición, fue desechado; no pudiendo hacer que su padre cambiase la resolución, por más que con lágrimas lo solicitase.
17Además de que vosotros no os habéis acercado al monte sensible o terrestre, y a fuego encendido, y torbellino, y negra nube, y tempestad,
18y sonido de trompeta, y estruendo de una voz tan espantosa, que los que la oyeron, pidieron por merced que no se les hablase más, sino por medio de Moisés;
19pues no podían sufrir la severidad de esto que se les intimaba: Si una bestia tocare al monte, ha de ser apedreada.
20Y era tan espantoso lo que se veía, que dijo Moisés: Despavorido estoy y temblando.
21Mas vosotros os habéis acercado al monte de Sión y a la ciudad de Dios vivo, la celestial Jerusalén , al coro de muchos millares de ángeles,
22a la Iglesia de los primogénitos, que están alistados en los cielos, y a Dios juez de todos, y a los espíritus de los justos ya perfectos o bienaventurados,
23y a Jesús mediador de la nueva alianza, y a la aspersión de aquella su sangre que habla mejor que la de Abel.
24Mirad que no desechéis al que os habla. Porque si no escaparon del castigo aquellos que desobedecieron al siervo de Dios Moisés, que les hablaba sobre la tierra, mucho más castigados seremos nosotros si desecháremos al Hijo de Dios que nos habla desde los cielos,
25cuya voz hizo entonces temblar la tierra; pero ahora promete más, diciendo: Una vez todavía os hablaré en público; y yo conmoveré no tan sólo la tierra, sino también el cielo.
26Mas con decir: Una vez todavía, declara el cambio de las cosas movibles o instables como cosas hechas sólo para algún tiempo, a fin de que permanezcan aquellas que son inconmovibles.
27Así, que ateniéndonos nosotros, hermanos míos, a aquel reino que no está sujeto a cambio alguno, conservemos la gracia, mediante la cual agradando a Dios, le sirvamos con temor y reverencia;
28pues nuestro Dios es como un fuego devorador.
29Conservad siempre la caridad para con vuestros hermanos.

1POR tanto nosotros también, teniendo en derredor nuestro una tan grande nube de testigos, dejando todo el peso del pecado que nos rodea, corramos con paciencia la carrera que nos es propuesta,
2Puestos los ojos en al autor y consumador de la fe, en Jesús; el cual, habiéndole sido propuesto gozo, sufrió la cruz, menospreciando la vergüenza, y sentóse á la diestra del trono de Dios.
3Reducid pues á vuestro pensamiento á aquel que sufrió tal contradicción de pecadores contra sí mismo, porque no os fatiguéis en vuestros ánimos desmayando.
4Que aun no habéis resistido hasta la sangre, combatiendo contra el pecado:
5Y estáis ya olvidados de la exhortación que como con hijos habla con vosotros, diciendo: Hijo mío, no menosprecies el castigo del Señor, ni desmayes cuando eres de él reprendido.
6Porque el Señor al que ama castiga, y azota á cualquiera que recibe por hijo.
7Si sufrís el castigo, Dios se os presenta como á hijos; porque ¿qué hijo es aquel á quien el padre no castiga?
8Mas si estáis fuera del castigo, del cual todos han sido hechos participantes, luego sois bastardos, y no hijos.
9Por otra parte, tuvimos por castigadores á los padres de nuestra carne, y los reverenciábamos, ¿por qué no obedeceremos mucho mejor al Padre de los espíritus, y viviremos?
10Y aquéllos, á la verdad, por pocos días nos castigaban como á ellos les parecía, mas éste para lo que nos es provechoso, para que recibamos su santificación.
11Es verdad que ningún castigo al presente parece ser causa de gozo, sino de tristeza; mas después da fruto apacible de justicia á los que en él son ejercitados.
12Por lo cual alzad las manos caídas y las rodillas paralizadas;
13Y haced derechos pasos á vuestros pies, porque lo que es cojo no salga fuera de camino, antes sea sanado.
14Seguid la paz con todos, y la santidad, sin la cual nadie verá al Señor:
15Mirando bien que ninguno se aparte de la gracia de Dios, que ninguna raíz de amargura brotando os impida, y por ella muchos sean contaminados;
16Que ninguno sea fornicario, ó profano, como Esaú, que por una vianda vendió su primogenitura.
17Porque ya sabéis que aun después, deseando heredar la bendición, fué reprobado (que no halló lugar de arrepentimiento), aunque la procuró con lágrimas.
18Porque no os habéis llegado al monte que se podía tocar, y al fuego encendido, y al turbión, y á la oscuridad, y á la tempestad,
19Y al sonido de la trompeta, y á la voz de las palabras, la cual los que la oyeron rogaron que no se les hablase más;
20Porque no podían tolerar lo que se mandaba: Si bestia tocare al monte, será apedreada, ó pasada con dardo.
21Y tan terrible cosa era lo que se veía, que Moisés dijo: Estoy asombrado y temblando.
22Mas os habéis llegado al monte de Sión, y á la ciudad del Dios vivo, Jerusalem la celestial, y á la compañía de muchos millares de ángeles,
23Y á la congregación de los primogénitos que están alistados en los cielos, y á Dios el Juez de todos, y á los espíritus de los justos hechos perfectos,
24Y á Jesús el Mediador del nuevo testamento, y á la sangre del esparcimiento que habla mejor que la de Abel.
25Mirad que no desechéis al que habla. Porque si aquellos no escaparon que desecharon al que hablaba en la tierra, mucho menos nosotros, si desecháramos al que habla de los cielos.
26La voz del cual entonces conmovió la tierra; mas ahora ha denunciado, diciendo: Aun una vez, y yo conmoveré no solamente la tierra, mas aun el cielo.
27Y esta palabra, Aun una vez, declara la mudanza de las cosas movibles, como de cosas hechas, para que queden las cosas que son firmes.
28Así que, tomando el reino inmóvil, retengamos la gracia por la cual sirvamos á Dios agradándole con temor y reverencia;
29Porque nuestro Dios es fuego consumidor.

1Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.
4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.
5And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son, despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him:
6For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
7If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?
8But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons.
9Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?
10For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness.
11Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
12Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees;
13And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed.
14Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:
15Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled;
16Lest there be any fornicator, or profane person, as Esau, who for one morsel of meat sold his birthright.
17For ye know how that afterward, when he would have inherited the blessing, he was rejected: for he found no place of repentance, though he sought it carefully with tears.
18For ye are not come unto the mount that might be touched, and that burned with fire, nor unto blackness, and darkness, and tempest,
19And the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which voice they that heard intreated that the word should not be spoken to them any more:
20(For they could not endure that which was commanded, And if so much as a beast touch the mountain, it shall be stoned, or thrust through with a dart:
21And so terrible was the sight, that Moses said, I exceedingly fear and quake:)
22But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:
26Whose voice then shook the earth: but now he hath promised, saying, Yet once more I shake not the earth only, but also heaven.
27And this word, Yet once more, signifieth the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made, that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
28Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear:
29For our God is a consuming fire.

1Therefore let’s also, seeing we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, lay aside every weight and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let’s run with perseverance the race that is set before us,
2looking to Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
3For consider him who has endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, that you don’t grow weary, fainting in your souls.
4You have not yet resisted to blood, striving against sin.
5You have forgotten the exhortation which reasons with you as with children, “My son, don’t take lightly the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when you are reproved by him;
6for whom the Lord loves, he disciplines, and chastises every son whom he receives.”
7It is for discipline that you endure. God deals with you as with children, for what son is there whom his father doesn’t discipline?
8But if you are without discipline, of which all have been made partakers, then you are illegitimate, and not children.
9Furthermore, we had the fathers of our flesh to chasten us, and we paid them respect. Shall we not much rather be in subjection to the Father of spirits and live?
10For they indeed for a few days disciplined us as seemed good to them, but he for our profit, that we may be partakers of his holiness.
11All chastening seems for the present to be not joyous but grievous; yet afterward it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it.
12Therefore lift up the hands that hang down and the feeble knees,
13and make straight paths for your feet, so what is lame may not be dislocated, but rather be healed.
14Follow after peace with all men, and the sanctification without which no man will see the Lord,
15looking carefully lest there be any man who falls short of the grace of God, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you and many be defiled by it,

17For you know that even when he afterward desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no place for a change of mind though he sought it diligently with tears.
18For you have not come to a mountain that might be touched and that burned with fire, and to blackness, darkness, storm,
19the sound of a trumpet, and the voice of words; which those who heard it begged that not one more word should be spoken to them,
20for they could not stand that which was commanded, “If even an animal touches the mountain, it shall be stoned”.
21So fearful was the appearance that Moses said, “I am terrified and trembling.”
22But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable multitudes of angels,
23to the festal gathering and assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, to God the Judge of all, to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better than that of Abel.
25See that you don’t refuse him who speaks. For if they didn’t escape when they refused him who warned on the earth, how much more will we not escape who turn away from him who warns from heaven,
26whose voice shook the earth then, but now he has promised, saying, “Yet once more I will shake not only the earth, but also the heavens.”
27This phrase, “Yet once more” signifies the removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that have been made, that those things which are not shaken may remain.
28Therefore, receiving a Kingdom that can’t be shaken, let’s have grace, through which we serve God acceptably, with reverence and awe,
29for our God is a consuming fire.
