1Allora Giuseppe si gettò sulla faccia di suo padre, pianse su lui, e lo baciò.
2Poi Giuseppe ordinò ai medici ch’erano al suo servizio, d’imbalsamare suo padre; e i medici imbalsamarono Israele.
3Ci vollero quaranta giorni; perché tanto è il tempo che s’impiega ad imbalsamare; e gli Egiziani lo piansero settanta giorni.
4E quando i giorni del lutto fatto per lui furon passati, Giuseppe parlò alla casa di Faraone, dicendo: “Se ora ho trovato grazia agli occhi vostri, fate giungere agli orecchi di Faraone queste parole:
5Mio padre m’ha fatto giurare e m’ha detto: Ecco, io mi muoio; seppelliscimi nel mio sepolcro, che mi sono scavato nel paese di Canaan. Ora dunque, permetti ch’io salga e seppellisca mio padre; poi tornerò”.
6E Faraone rispose: “Sali, e seppellisci tuo padre come t’ha fatto giurare”.
7Allora Giuseppe salì a seppellire suo padre; e con lui salirono tutti i servitori di Faraone, gli Anziani della sua casa e tutti gli Anziani del paese d’Egitto,
8e tutta la casa di Giuseppe e i suoi fratelli e la casa di suo padre. Non lasciarono nel paese di Goscen che i loro bambini, i loro greggi e i loro armenti.
9Con lui salirono pure carri e cavalieri; talché il corteggio era numerosissimo.
10E come furon giunti all’aia di Atad, ch’è oltre il Giordano, vi fecero grandi e profondi lamenti; e Giuseppe fece a suo padre un lutto di sette giorni.
11Or quando gli abitanti del paese, i Cananei, videro il lutto dell’aia di Atad, dissero: “Questo e un grave lutto per gli Egiziani!” Perciò fu messo nome Abel-Mitsraim a quell’aia, ch’è oltre il Giordano.
12I figliuoli di Giacobbe fecero per lui quello ch’egli aveva ordinato loro:
13lo trasportarono nel paese di Canaan, e lo seppellirono nella spelonca del campo di Macpela, che Abrahamo avea comprato, col campo, da Efron lo Hitteo, come sepolcro di sua proprietà, dirimpetto a Mamre.
14Giuseppe, dopo ch’ebbe sepolto suo padre, se ne tornò in Egitto coi suoi fratelli e con tutti quelli ch’erano saliti con lui a seppellire suo padre.
15I fratelli di Giuseppe, quando videro che il loro padre era morto, dissero: “Chi sa che Giuseppe non ci porti odio, e non ci renda tutto il male che gli abbiam fatto!”
16E mandarono a dire a Giuseppe: “Tuo padre, prima di morire, dette quest’ordine:
17Dite così a Giuseppe: Deh, perdona ora ai tuoi fratelli il loro misfatto e il loro peccato; perché t’hanno fatto del male. Deh, perdona dunque ora il misfatto de’ servi dell’Iddio di tuo padre!” E Giuseppe, quando gli fu parlato così, pianse.
18E i suoi fratelli vennero anch’essi, si prostrarono ai suoi piedi, e dissero: “Ecco, siamo tuoi servi”.
19E Giuseppe disse loro: “Non temete; poiché son io forse al posto di Dio?
20Voi avevate pensato del male contro a me; ma Dio ha pensato di convertirlo in bene, per compiere quello che oggi avviene: per conservare in vita un popolo numeroso.
21Ora dunque non temete; io sostenterò voi e i vostri figliuoli”. E li confortò, e parlò al loro cuore.
22Giuseppe dimorò in Egitto: egli, con la casa di suo padre; e visse centodieci anni.
23Giuseppe vide i figliuoli di Efraim, fino alla terza generazione; anche i figliuoli di Makir, figliuolo di Manasse, nacquero sulle sue ginocchia.
24E Giuseppe disse ai suoi fratelli: “Io sto per morire; ma Dio per certo vi visiterà, e vi farà salire, da questo paese, nel paese che promise con giuramento ad Abrahamo, a Isacco e a Giacobbe”.
25E Giuseppe fece giurare i figliuoli d’Israele, dicendo: “Iddio per certo vi visiterà; allora, trasportate di qui le mie ossa”.
26Poi Giuseppe morì, in età di centodieci anni; e fu imbalsamato, e posto in una bara in Egitto.

1ENTONCES se echó José sobre el rostro de su padre, y lloró sobre él, y besólo.
2Y mandó José á sus médicos familiares que embalsamasen á su padre: y los médicos embalsamaron á Israel.
3Y cumpliéronle cuarenta días, porque así cumplían los días de los embalsamados, y lloráronlo los Egipcios setenta días.
4Y pasados los días de su luto, habló José á los de la casa de Faraón, diciendo: Si he hallado ahora gracia en vuestros ojos, os ruego que habléis en oídos de Faraón, diciendo:
5Mi padre me conjuró diciendo: He aquí yo muero; en mi sepulcro que yo cavé para mí en la tierra de Canaán, allí me sepultarás; ruego pues que vaya yo ahora, y sepultaré á mi padre, y volveré.
6Y Faraón dijo: Ve, y sepulta á tu padre, como él te conjuró.
7Entonces José subió á sepultar á su padre; y subieron con él todos los siervos de Faraón, los ancianos de su casa, y todos los ancianos de la tierra de Egipto,
8Y toda la casa de José, y sus hermanos, y la casa de su padre: solamente dejaron en la tierra de Gosén sus niños, y sus ovejas y sus vacas.
9Y subieron también con él carros y gente de á caballo, é hízose un escuadrón muy grande.
10Y llegaron hasta la era de Atad, que está á la otra parte del Jordán, y endecharon allí con grande y muy grave lamentación: y José hizo á su padre duelo por siete días.
11Y viendo los moradores de la tierra, los Cananeos, el llanto en la era de Atad, dijeron: Llanto grande es este de los Egipcios: por eso fué llamado su nombre Abelmizraim, que está á la otra parte del Jordán.
12Hicieron, pues, sus hijos con él, según les había mandado:
13Pues lleváronlo sus hijos á la tierra de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de Macpela, la que había comprado Abraham con el mismo campo, para heredad de sepultura, de Ephrón el Hetheo, delante de Mamre.
14Y tornóse José á Egipto, él y sus hermanos, y todos los que subieron con él á sepultar á su padre, después que le hubo sepultado.
15Y viendo los hermanos de José que su padre era muerto, dijeron: Quizá nos aborrecerá José, y nos dará el pago de todo el mal que le hicimos.
16Y enviaron á decir á José: Tu padre mandó antes de su muerte, diciendo:
17Así diréis á José: Ruégote que perdones ahora la maldad de tus hermanos y su pecado, porque mal te trataron: por tanto ahora te rogamos que perdones la maldad de los siervos del Dios de tu padre. Y José lloró mientras hablaban.
18Y vinieron también sus hermanos, y postráronse delante de él, y dijeron: Henos aquí por tus siervos.
19Y respondióles José: No temáis: ¿estoy yo en lugar de Dios?
20Vosotros pensasteis mal sobre mí, mas Dios lo encaminó á bien, para hacer lo que vemos hoy, para mantener en vida á mucho pueblo.
21Ahora, pues, no tengáis miedo; yo os sustentaré á vosotros y á vuestros hijos. Así los consoló, y les habló al corazón.
22Y estuvo José en Egipto, él y la casa de su padre: y vivió José ciento diez años.
23Y vió José los hijos de Ephraim hasta la tercera generación: también los hijos de Machîr, hijo de Manasés, fueron criados sobre las rodillas de José.
24Y José dijo á sus hermanos: Yo me muero; mas Dios ciertamente os visitará, y os hará subir de aquesta tierra á la tierra que juró á Abraham, á Isaac, y á Jacob.
25Y conjuró José á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Dios ciertamente os visitará, y haréis llevar de aquí mis huesos.
26Y murió José de edad de ciento diez años; y embalsamáronlo, y fué puesto en un ataúd en Egipto.

1And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.
2And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.
4And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.
6And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.
7And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.
9And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.
10And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.
11And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.
12And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:
13For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.
14And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
15And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
16And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
17So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
22And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
23And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.
24And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
25And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
26So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

1Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him.
2Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3Forty days were used for him, for that is how many days it takes to embalm. The Egyptians wept for Israel for seventy days.
4When the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to Pharaoh’s staff, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying. Bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’”
6Pharaoh said, “Go up, and bury your father, just like he made you swear.”
7Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8all the house of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.
9Both chariots and horsemen went up with him. It was a very great company.
10They came to the threshing floor of Atad, which is beyond the Jordan, and there they lamented with a very great and severe lamentation. He mourned for his father seven days.

17‘You shall tell Joseph, “Now please forgive the disobedience of your brothers, and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ Now, please forgive the disobedience of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
18His brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”
19Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for am I in the place of God?
20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.
21Now therefore don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones.” He comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.
22Joseph lived in Egypt, he, and his father’s house. Joseph lived one hundred ten years.
23Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The children also of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph’s knees.
24Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
25Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”
26So Joseph died, being one hundred ten years old, and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
