1Alors Joseph se jeta sur le visage de son père, et penché sur lui il pleura et l'embrassa.
2Et Joseph ordonna à ses serviteurs, les médecins, d'embaumer son père. Et les médecins embaumèrent Israël.
3Et quarante jours y furent employés car c'est le nombre de jours qu'on emploie pour embaumer.
4Et les Egyptiens le pleurèrent soixante-dix jours. Et quand les jours où on le pleura, furent passés, Joseph s'adressa à la maison de Pharaon en ces termes : Si j'ai trouvé grâce à vos yeux, veuillez redire aux oreilles de Pharaon ces paroles :
5Mon père m'a adjuré et m'a dit : Voici, je me meurs ; c'est dans mon tombeau que je me suis acheté au pays de Canaan, que tu me donneras la sépulture Permets-moi donc d'aller donner la sépulture à mon père, après quoi je reviendrai.
6Et Pharaon dit : Va donner la sépulture à ton père selon le serment qu'il t'a fait prêter.
7Alors Joseph partit pour la sépulture de son père et il fut accompagné par tous les serviteurs de Pharaon, les Anciens de sa maison et tous les Anciens du pays d'Égypte,
8et par toute la maison de Joseph et par ses frères et la maison de son père ; et ce ne fut que leurs enfants et leurs brebis et leurs bestiaux qu'ils laissèrent dans la contrée de Gosen,
9et il avait une escorte de chars et de cavaliers, de sorte que la caravane était très considérable.
10Et arrivés à l'aire d'Atad située au-delà du Jourdain, ils y firent une très grande et très plaintive lamentation funèbre, et il célébra en l'honneur de son père un deuil de sept jours.
11Et les habitants du pays, les Cananéens, témoins de la lamentation près de l'aire d'Atad, dirent : C'est un grand deuil des Egyptiens. C'est pourquoi on a donné à l'aire située au-delà du Jourdain le nom de Abel-Mistraim (deuil des Egyptiens).
12Et les fils de Jacob exécutèrent à son égard les ordres qu'il leur avait donnés.
13Et ses fils le transportèrent au pays de Canaan, et lui donnèrent la sépulture dans la grotte du champ de Macpéla, qu'Abraham avait achetée avec le champ comme propriété sépulcrale, de Ephron, le Héthien, à l'orient de Mamré.
14Et Joseph regagna l'Égypte, lui et ses frères et tous ceux qui l'avaient accompagné aux funérailles de son père après qu'il eut donné la sépulture à son père.
15Et les frères de Joseph voyant leur père mort se dirent : Et si Joseph conservait de la haine contre nous et nous rendait tout le mal que nous lui avons fait ?
16Et ils firent faire à Joseph ce message : Ton père avant de mourir nous a donné cet ordre :
17Ainsi vous parlerez à Joseph : Oh ! pardonne le crime de tes frères, et le péché qu'ils ont commis en te faisant du mal ! A présent pardonne donc le péché des serviteurs du Dieu de ton père ! Et Joseph pleura à l'ouïe de leur message.
18Et ses frères vinrent eux-mêmes et se prosternèrent devant lui et dirent : Voici, nous sommes tes esclaves.
19Alors Joseph leur dit : Soyez sans crainte ! Usurperais-je la place de Dieu ?
20Vous aviez pensé à me faire du mal, mais Dieu a pensé à opérer du bien, afin d'exécuter ce qui arrive aujourd'hui, de sauver la vie à un peuple nombreux.
21Soyez donc sans crainte, je vous entretiendrai vous et vos enfants. Et il les consola et parla à leur cœur.
22Ainsi Joseph demeura en Égypte, lui et la maison de son père, et Joseph vécut cent-dix ans.
23Et Joseph vit les fils d'Ephraïm jusqu'à la troisième génération, et les fils de Machir, fils de Manassé, furent aussi reçus à leur naissance sur les genoux de Joseph.
24Et Joseph dit à ses frères : Je vais mourir et Dieu prendra soin de vous, et vous fera remonter de ce pays-ci au pays qu'il a promis par serment à Abraham, à Isaac et à Jacob.
25Et Joseph fit prêter ce serment aux fils d'Israël : Quand Dieu vous visitera, vous emmènerez mes os d'ici.
26Et Joseph mourut âgé de cent-dix ans, et ils l'embaumèrent, et on le mit dans un cercueil en Égypte.

1ENTONCES se echó José sobre el rostro de su padre, y lloró sobre él, y besólo.
2Y mandó José á sus médicos familiares que embalsamasen á su padre: y los médicos embalsamaron á Israel.
3Y cumpliéronle cuarenta días, porque así cumplían los días de los embalsamados, y lloráronlo los Egipcios setenta días.
4Y pasados los días de su luto, habló José á los de la casa de Faraón, diciendo: Si he hallado ahora gracia en vuestros ojos, os ruego que habléis en oídos de Faraón, diciendo:
5Mi padre me conjuró diciendo: He aquí yo muero; en mi sepulcro que yo cavé para mí en la tierra de Canaán, allí me sepultarás; ruego pues que vaya yo ahora, y sepultaré á mi padre, y volveré.
6Y Faraón dijo: Ve, y sepulta á tu padre, como él te conjuró.
7Entonces José subió á sepultar á su padre; y subieron con él todos los siervos de Faraón, los ancianos de su casa, y todos los ancianos de la tierra de Egipto,
8Y toda la casa de José, y sus hermanos, y la casa de su padre: solamente dejaron en la tierra de Gosén sus niños, y sus ovejas y sus vacas.
9Y subieron también con él carros y gente de á caballo, é hízose un escuadrón muy grande.
10Y llegaron hasta la era de Atad, que está á la otra parte del Jordán, y endecharon allí con grande y muy grave lamentación: y José hizo á su padre duelo por siete días.
11Y viendo los moradores de la tierra, los Cananeos, el llanto en la era de Atad, dijeron: Llanto grande es este de los Egipcios: por eso fué llamado su nombre Abelmizraim, que está á la otra parte del Jordán.
12Hicieron, pues, sus hijos con él, según les había mandado:
13Pues lleváronlo sus hijos á la tierra de Canaán, y le sepultaron en la cueva del campo de Macpela, la que había comprado Abraham con el mismo campo, para heredad de sepultura, de Ephrón el Hetheo, delante de Mamre.
14Y tornóse José á Egipto, él y sus hermanos, y todos los que subieron con él á sepultar á su padre, después que le hubo sepultado.
15Y viendo los hermanos de José que su padre era muerto, dijeron: Quizá nos aborrecerá José, y nos dará el pago de todo el mal que le hicimos.
16Y enviaron á decir á José: Tu padre mandó antes de su muerte, diciendo:
17Así diréis á José: Ruégote que perdones ahora la maldad de tus hermanos y su pecado, porque mal te trataron: por tanto ahora te rogamos que perdones la maldad de los siervos del Dios de tu padre. Y José lloró mientras hablaban.
18Y vinieron también sus hermanos, y postráronse delante de él, y dijeron: Henos aquí por tus siervos.
19Y respondióles José: No temáis: ¿estoy yo en lugar de Dios?
20Vosotros pensasteis mal sobre mí, mas Dios lo encaminó á bien, para hacer lo que vemos hoy, para mantener en vida á mucho pueblo.
21Ahora, pues, no tengáis miedo; yo os sustentaré á vosotros y á vuestros hijos. Así los consoló, y les habló al corazón.
22Y estuvo José en Egipto, él y la casa de su padre: y vivió José ciento diez años.
23Y vió José los hijos de Ephraim hasta la tercera generación: también los hijos de Machîr, hijo de Manasés, fueron criados sobre las rodillas de José.
24Y José dijo á sus hermanos: Yo me muero; mas Dios ciertamente os visitará, y os hará subir de aquesta tierra á la tierra que juró á Abraham, á Isaac, y á Jacob.
25Y conjuró José á los hijos de Israel, diciendo: Dios ciertamente os visitará, y haréis llevar de aquí mis huesos.
26Y murió José de edad de ciento diez años; y embalsamáronlo, y fué puesto en un ataúd en Egipto.

1And Joseph fell upon his father’s face, and wept upon him, and kissed him.
2And Joseph commanded his servants the physicians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3And forty days were fulfilled for him; for so are fulfilled the days of those which are embalmed: and the Egyptians mourned for him threescore and ten days.
4And when the days of his mourning were past, Joseph spake unto the house of Pharaoh, saying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, speak, I pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5My father made me swear, saying, Lo, I die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there shalt thou bury me. Now therefore let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I will come again.
6And Pharaoh said, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee swear.
7And Joseph went up to bury his father: and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8And all the house of Joseph, and his brethren, and his father’s house: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.
9And there went up with him both chariots and horsemen: and it was a very great company.
10And they came to the threshingfloor of Atad, which is beyond Jordan, and there they mourned with a great and very sore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father seven days.
11And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, saw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they said, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the name of it was called Abel-mizraim, which is beyond Jordan.
12And his sons did unto him according as he commanded them:
13For his sons carried him into the land of Canaan, and buried him in the cave of the field of Machpelah, which Abraham bought with the field for a possession of a buryingplace of Ephron the Hittite, before Mamre.
14And Joseph returned into Egypt, he, and his brethren, and all that went up with him to bury his father, after he had buried his father.
15And when Joseph’s brethren saw that their father was dead, they said, Joseph will peradventure hate us, and will certainly requite us all the evil which we did unto him.
16And they sent a messenger unto Joseph, saying, Thy father did command before he died, saying,
17So shall ye say unto Joseph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trespass of thy brethren, and their sin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trespass of the servants of the God of thy father. And Joseph wept when they spake unto him.
18And his brethren also went and fell down before his face; and they said, Behold, we be thy servants.
19And Joseph said unto them, Fear not: for am I in the place of God?
20But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pass, as it is this day, to save much people alive.
21Now therefore fear ye not: I will nourish you, and your little ones. And he comforted them, and spake kindly unto them.
22And Joseph dwelt in Egypt, he, and his father’s house: and Joseph lived an hundred and ten years.
23And Joseph saw Ephraim’s children of the third generation: the children also of Machir the son of Manasseh were brought up upon Joseph’s knees.
24And Joseph said unto his brethren, I die: and God will surely visit you, and bring you out of this land unto the land which he sware to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.
25And Joseph took an oath of the children of Israel, saying, God will surely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.
26So Joseph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

1Joseph fell on his father’s face, wept on him, and kissed him.
2Joseph commanded his servants, the physicians, to embalm his father; and the physicians embalmed Israel.
3Forty days were used for him, for that is how many days it takes to embalm. The Egyptians wept for Israel for seventy days.
4When the days of weeping for him were past, Joseph spoke to Pharaoh’s staff, saying, “If now I have found favor in your eyes, please speak in the ears of Pharaoh, saying,
5‘My father made me swear, saying, “Behold, I am dying. Bury me in my grave which I have dug for myself in the land of Canaan.” Now therefore, please let me go up and bury my father, and I will come again.’”
6Pharaoh said, “Go up, and bury your father, just like he made you swear.”
7Joseph went up to bury his father; and with him went up all the servants of Pharaoh, the elders of his house, all the elders of the land of Egypt,
8all the house of Joseph, his brothers, and his father’s house. Only their little ones, their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Goshen.
9Both chariots and horsemen went up with him. It was a very great company.

17‘You shall tell Joseph, “Now please forgive the disobedience of your brothers, and their sin, because they did evil to you.”’ Now, please forgive the disobedience of the servants of the God of your father.” Joseph wept when they spoke to him.
18His brothers also went and fell down before his face; and they said, “Behold, we are your servants.”
19Joseph said to them, “Don’t be afraid, for am I in the place of God?
20As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to save many people alive, as is happening today.
21Now therefore don’t be afraid. I will provide for you and your little ones.” He comforted them, and spoke kindly to them.
22Joseph lived in Egypt, he, and his father’s house. Joseph lived one hundred ten years.
23Joseph saw Ephraim’s children to the third generation. The children also of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were born on Joseph’s knees.
24Joseph said to his brothers, “I am dying, but God will surely visit you, and bring you up out of this land to the land which he swore to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.”
25Joseph took an oath from the children of Israel, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here.”
26So Joseph died, being one hundred ten years old, and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.
