1GIUSEPPE adunque venne, e rapportò e disse a Faraone: Mio padre, e i miei fratelli, con le lor gregge, e co' loro armenti, e con tutto ciò che hanno, son venuti dal paese di Canaan; ed ecco, sono nella contrada di Gosen.
2Prese eziandio una parte de' suoi fratelli, cioè cinque, e li presentò davanti a Faraone.
3E Faraone disse a' fratelli di Giuseppe: Qual'è il vostro mestiere? Ed essi dissero a Faraone: I tuoi servitori son pastori di gregge, come anche furono i nostri padri.
4Poi dissero a Faraone: Noi siam venuti per dimorare in questo paese; perciocchè non vi è pastura per le gregge de' tuoi servitori nel paese di Canaan, conciossiachè la fame vi sia grave; deh! permetti ora che i tuoi servitori dimorino nella contrada di Gosen.
5E Faraone disse a Giuseppe: Poichè tuo padre, e i tuoi fratelli, son venuti a te;
6il paese di Egitto è al tuo comando; fa' abitar tuo padre, e i tuoi fratelli, nel meglio del paese; dimorino pur nella contrada di Gosen, e se tu conosci che fra loro vi sieno degli uomini di valore, costituiscili governatori del mio bestiame.
7Poi Giuseppe menò Giacobbe, suo padre, a Faraone, e gliel presentò. E Giacobbe benedisse Faraone.
8E Faraone disse a Giacobbe: Quanti anni hai?
9E Giacobbe rispose a Faraone: Il tempo degli anni de' miei pellegrinaggiè centrent'anni; il tempo degli anni della mia vita è stato corto, e malvagio, e non è giunto al tempo degli anni della vita de' miei padri, ne' quali andarono peregrinando.
10Poi Giacobbe, salutato Faraone, se ne uscì fuori dal suo cospetto.
11E Giuseppe diede a suo padre, e ai suoi fratelli, stanza e possessione nel paese di Egitto, nel meglio del paese, nella contrada di Rameses, come Faraone avea comandato.
12E Giuseppe sostentò suo padre, e i suoi fratelli, e tutta la casa di suo padre, provvedendo loro di pane, secondo le bocche delle lor famiglie.
13OR in tutta la terra non vi era pane; perciocchè la fame era gravissima; e il paese di Egitto, e di Canaan, si veniva meno per la fame.
14E Giuseppe raccolse tutti i danari che si ritrovarono nel paese di Egitto, e nel paese di Canaan, per lo grano che la gente di que' paesi comperava; e Giuseppe portò que' danari in casa di Faraone.
15E, quando i danari furono mancati nel paese di Egitto, e nel paese di Canaan, tutti gli Egizj vennero a Giuseppe, dicendo: Dacci del pane, perchè morremmo noi davanti agli occhi tuoi per mancamento di danari?
16E Giuseppe disse: Datemi il vostro bestiame, ed io vi darò del pane per lo vostro bestiame, se pure i danari son mancati.
17Ed essi menarono il lor bestiame a Giuseppe; e Giuseppe diede loro del pane per cavalli, e per gregge di pecore, e per armenti di buoi, e per asini. Così li sostentò di pane quell'anno per tutto il lor bestiame.
18E, passato quell'anno, ritornarono l'anno seguente a lui, e gli dissero: Noi non possiamo celare il nostro bisogno al mio signore; ma i danari son mancati, e i nostri bestiami son pervenuti al mio signore; e' non ci resta nulla che il mio signore possa pigliare, salvo i nostri corpi, e le nostre terre.
19Perchè periremmo, e noi, e le nostre terre, davanti agli occhi tuoi? compera noi, e le nostre terre, per del pane; e noi, e le nostre terre, saremo servi a Faraone; e dacci della semenza, acciocchè viviamo, e non muoiamo, e che la terra non sia desolata.
20Giuseppe adunque acquistò a Faraone tutte le terre di Egitto; perciocchè gli Egizj venderono ciascun la sua possessione; conciossiachè la fame si fosse aggravata sopra loro; e così le terre furono acquistate a Faraone.
21E Giuseppe trasportò il popolo nelle città, da un capo de' confini di Egitto infino all'altro.
22Sol non acquistò le terre de' sacerdoti; perciocchè vi era una provvisione assegnata da Faraone a' sacerdoti; onde essi mangiarono la provvisione che Faraone dava loro, e perciò non venderono le lor terre.
23E Giuseppe disse al popolo: Ecco io ho oggi acquistati a Faraone e voi e le vostre terre; eccovi della semenza: seminate la terra.
24E al tempo della ricolta, voi darete il quinto di essa a Faraone, e le altre quattro parti saranno vostre, per la sementa de' campi, e per lo mangiar di voi, e di coloro che son nelle vostre case, e per lo mangiar delle vostre famiglie.
25Ed essi dissero: Tu ci hai scampata la vita; troviamo pur grazia appo il mio signore, e siamo servi a Faraone.
26E Giuseppe, per istatuto che dura infino ad oggi, fece una imposta sopra le terre di Egitto, del quinto della rendita, per Faraone; sol le terre de' sacerdoti non furono di Faraone.
27Così gl'Israeliti abitarono nel paese di Egitto, nella contrada di Gosen, e ne furono fatti possessori, e moltiplicarono, e crebbero grandemente.
28E Giacobbe visse nel paese di Egitto diciassette anni; e gli anni della vita di Giacobbe furono cenquarantasette.
29Or avvicinandosi il tempo della morte di Israele, egli chiamò il suo figliuolo Giuseppe, e gli disse: Deh! se io ho trovato grazia appo te, metti ora la tua mano sotto la mia coscia, promettendomi che tu userai inverso me benignità e lealtà; deh! non seppellirmi in Egitto.
30Anzi, quando io giacerò co' miei padri, portami fuor di Egitto, e seppelliscimi nella lor sepoltura. E Giuseppe disse: Io farò secondo la tua parola.
31E Israele disse: Giuramelo. Ed egli gliel giurò. E Israele, inchinatosi verso il capo del letto, adorò.

1Y JOSÉ vino, é hizo saber á Faraón, y dijo: Mi padre y mis hermanos, y sus ovejas y sus vacas, con todo lo que tienen, han venido de la tierra de Canaán, y he aquí, están en la tierra de Gosén.
2Y de los postreros de sus hermanos tomó cinco varones, y presentólos delante de Faraón.
3Y Faraón dijo á sus hermanos: ¿Cuál es vuestro oficio? Y ellos respondieron á Faraón: Pastores de ovejas son tus siervos, así nosotros como nuestros padres.
4Dijeron además á Faraón: Por morar en esta tierra hemos venido; porque no hay pasto para las ovejas de tus siervos, pues el hambre es grave en la tierra de Canaán: por tanto, te rogamos ahora que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosén.
5Entonces Faraón habló á José, diciendo: Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido á ti;
6La tierra de Egipto delante de ti está; en lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar á tu padre y á tus hermanos; habiten en la tierra de Gosén; y si entiendes que hay entre ellos hombres eficaces, ponlos por mayorales del ganado mío.
7Y José introdujo á su padre, y presentólo delante de Faraón; y Jacob bendijo á Faraón.
8Y dijo Faraón á Jacob: ¿Cuántos son los días de los años de tu vida?
9Y Jacob respondió á Faraón: Los días de los años de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta años; pocos y malos han sido los días de los años de mi vida, y no han llegado á los días de los años de la vida de mis padres en los días de su peregrinación.
10Y Jacob bendijo á Faraón, y salióse de delante de Faraón.
11Así José hizo habitar á su padre y á sus hermanos, y dióles posesión en la tierra de Egipto, en lo mejor de la tierra, en la tierra de Rameses como mandó Faraón.
12Y alimentaba José á su padre y á sus hermanos, y á toda la casa de su padre, de pan, hasta la boca del niño.
13Y no había pan en toda la tierra, y el hambre era muy grave; por lo que desfalleció de hambre la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán.
14Y recogió José todo el dinero que se halló en la tierra de Egipto y en la tierra de Canaán, por los alimentos que de él compraban; y metió José el dinero en casa de Faraón.
15Y acabado el dinero de la tierra de Egipto y de la tierra de Canaán, vino todo Egipto á José diciendo: Danos pan: ¿por qué moriremos delante de ti, por haberse acabado el dinero?
16Y José dijo: Dad vuestros ganados, y yo os daré por vuestros ganados, si se ha acabado el dinero.
17Y ellos trajeron sus ganados á José; y José les dió alimentos por caballos, y por el ganado de las ovejas, y por el ganado de las vacas, y por asnos: y sustentólos de pan por todos sus ganados aquel año.
18Y acabado aquel año, vinieron á él el segundo año, y le dijeron: No encubriremos á nuestro señor que el dinero ciertamente se ha acabado; también el ganado es ya de nuestro señor; nada ha quedado delante de nuestro señor sino nuestros cuerpos y nuestra tierra.
19¿Por qué moriremos delante de tus ojos, así nosotros como nuestra tierra? Cómpranos á nosotros y á nuestra tierra por pan, y seremos nosotros y nuestra tierra siervos de Faraón: y danos simiente para que vivamos y no muramos, y no sea asolada la tierra.
20Entonces compró José toda la tierra de Egipto para Faraón; pues los Egipcios vendieron cada uno sus tierras, porque se agravó el hambre sobre ellos: y la tierra vino á ser de Faraón.
21Y al pueblo hízolo pasar á las ciudades desde el un cabo del término de Egipto hasta el otro cabo.
22Solamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no compró, por cuanto los sacerdotes tenían ración de Faraón, y ellos comían su ración que Faraón les daba: por eso no vendieron su tierra.
23Y José dijo al pueblo: He aquí os he hoy comprado y á vuestra tierra para Faraón: ved aquí simiente, y sembraréis la tierra.
24Y será que de los frutos daréis el quinto á Faraón, y las cuatro partes serán vuestras para sembrar las tierras, y para vuestro mantenimiento, y de los que están en vuestras casas, y para que coman vuestros niños.
25Y ellos respondieron: La vida nos has dado: hallemos gracia en ojos de mi señor, y seamos siervos de Faraón.
26Entonces José lo puso por fuero hasta hoy sobre la tierra de Egipto, señalando para Faraón el quinto; excepto sólo la tierra de los sacerdotes, que no fué de Faraón.
27Así habitó Israel en la tierra de Egipto, en la tierra de Gosén; y aposesionáronse en ella, y se aumentaron, y multiplicaron en gran manera.
28Y vivió Jacob en la tierra de Egipto diecisiete años: y fueron los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, ciento cuarenta y siete años.
29Y llegáronse los días de Israel para morir, y llamó á José su hijo, y le dijo: Si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, ruégote que pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo, y harás conmigo misericordia y verdad; ruégote que no me entierres en Egipto;
30Mas cuando durmiere con mis padres, llevarme has de Egipto, y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos. Y él respondió: Yo haré como tú dices.
31Y él dijo: Júramelo. Y él le juró. Entonces Israel se inclinó sobre la cabecera de la cama.

1Then Joseph came and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.
2And he took some of his brethren, even five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.
3And Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and also our fathers.
4They said moreover unto Pharaoh, For to sojourn in the land are we come; for thy servants have no pasture for their flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.
5And Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:
6The land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.
7And Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
8And Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How old art thou?
9And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: few and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.
10And Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from before Pharaoh.
11And Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
12And Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father’s household, with bread, according to their families.
13And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.
14And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
15And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for the money faileth.
16And Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.
17And they brought their cattle unto Joseph: and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for horses, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.
18When that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide it from my lord, how that our money is spent; my lord also hath our herds of cattle; there is not ought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:
19Wherefore shall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, that the land be not desolate.
20And Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine prevailed over them: so the land became Pharaoh’s.
21And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt even to the other end thereof.
22Only the land of the priests bought he not; for the priests had a portion assigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them: wherefore they sold not their lands.
23Then Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.
24And it shall come to pass in the increase, that ye shall give the fifth part unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.
25And they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find grace in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.
26And Joseph made it a law over the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh’s.
27And Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Goshen; and they had possessions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.
28And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and seven years.
29And the time drew nigh that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found grace in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt:
30But I will lie with my fathers, and thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their buryingplace. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.
31And he said, Swear unto me. And he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed’s head.

1Then Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, “My father and my brothers, with their flocks, their herds, and all that they own, have come out of the land of Canaan; and behold, they are in the land of Goshen.”
2From among his brothers he took five men, and presented them to Pharaoh.
3Pharaoh said to his brothers, “What is your occupation?” They said to Pharaoh, “Your servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.”
4They also said to Pharaoh, “We have come to live as foreigners in the land, for there is no pasture for your servants’ flocks. For the famine is severe in the land of Canaan. Now therefore, please let your servants dwell in the land of Goshen.”
5Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, saying, “Your father and your brothers have come to you.
6The land of Egypt is before you. Make your father and your brothers dwell in the best of the land. Let them dwell in the land of Goshen. If you know any able men among them, then put them in charge of my livestock.”
7Joseph brought in Jacob, his father, and set him before Pharaoh; and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.
8Pharaoh said to Jacob, “How old are you?”
9Jacob said to Pharaoh, “The years of my pilgrimage are one hundred thirty years. The days of the years of my life have been few and evil. They have not attained to the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.”
10Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.
11Joseph placed his father and his brothers, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.
12Joseph provided his father, his brothers, and all of his father’s household with bread, according to the sizes of their families.
13There was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.
14Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house.
15When the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph, and said, “Give us bread, for why should we die in your presence? For our money fails.”
16Joseph said, “Give me your livestock; and I will give you food for your livestock, if your money is gone.”
17They brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the donkeys: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their livestock for that year.
18When that year was ended, they came to him the second year, and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord how our money is all spent, and the herds of livestock are my lord’s. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands.
19Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants to Pharaoh. Give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land won’t be desolate.”
20So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for every man of the Egyptians sold his field, because the famine was severe on them, and the land became Pharaoh’s.
21As for the people, he moved them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end of it.
22Only he didn’t buy the land of the priests, for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and ate their portion which Pharaoh gave them. That is why they didn’t sell their land.
23Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have bought you and your land today for Pharaoh. Behold, here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land.
24It will happen at the harvests, that you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four parts will be your own, for seed of the field, for your food, for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.”
25They said, “You have saved our lives! Let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh’s servants.”
26Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth. Only the land of the priests alone didn’t become Pharaoh’s.
27Israel lived in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; and they got themselves possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly.
28Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years. So the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were one hundred forty-seven years.
29The time came near that Israel must die, and he called his son Joseph, and said to him, “If now I have found favor in your sight, please put your hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me. Please don’t bury me in Egypt,
30but when I sleep with my fathers, you shall carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying place.” Joseph said, “I will do as you have said.”
31Israel said, “Swear to me,” and he swore to him. Then Israel bowed himself on the bed’s head.
