Es lastete aber die Hungersnot schwer auf dem Lande.

Y EL hambre era grande en la tierra.

And the famine was sore in the land.

The famine was severe in the land.

Als sie nun das Getreide, das sie aus Ägypten geholt, vollständig aufgezehrt hatten, da gebot ihnen ihr Vater: zieht wieder hin, etwas Getreide für uns zu kaufen.

Y aconteció que como acabaron de comer el trigo que trajeron de Egipto, díjoles su padre: Volved, y comprad para nosotros un poco de alimento.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

When they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”

Da antwortete ihm Juda: Jener Mann hat uns nachdrücklich eingeschärft: Ihr dürft mir nicht vor die Augen kommen, wenn ihr nicht euren Bruder mitbringt.

Y respondió Judá, diciendo: Aquel varón nos protestó con ánimo resuelto, diciendo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’

Willst du uns also unseren Bruder mitgeben, so wollen wir hinreisen und Getreide für dich kaufen.

Si enviares á nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y te compraremos alimento:

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food;

Giebst du ihn uns aber nicht mit, so reisen wir nicht. Denn der Mann hat uns erklärt: Ihr dürft mir nicht vor die Augen kommen, wenn ihr nicht euren Bruder mitbringt.

Pero si no le enviares, no descenderemos: porque aquel varón nos dijo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

but if you don’t send him, we won’t go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”

Israel antwortete: Warum habt ihr mir das zuleide gethan und dem Manne verraten, daß ihr noch einen Bruder habt?

Y dijo Israel: ¿Por qué me hicisteis tanto mal, declarando al varón que teníais más hermano?

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”

Sie antworteten: Der Mann erkundigte sich genau nach uns und unserer Familie und fragte: Ist euer Vater noch am Leben? Habt ihr noch einen Bruder? Da gaben wir ihm Bescheid, ganz wie es sich verhält. Konnten wir denn wissen, daß er nun sagen würde: Bringt euren Bruder her?

Y ellos respondieron: Aquel varón nos preguntó expresamente por nosotros, y por nuestra parentela, diciendo: ¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿tenéis otro hermano? y declarámosle conforme á estas palabras. ¿Podíamos nosotros saber que había de decir: Haced venir á vuestro hermano?

And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

Juda aber sprach zu seinem Vater Israel: Gieb mir den Knaben mit, so wollen wir aufbrechen und hinziehen, damit wir leben bleiben und nicht sterben, wir und du und unsere Kinder.

Entonces Judá dijo á Israel su padre: Envía al mozo conmigo, y nos levantaremos é iremos, á fin que vivamos y no muramos nosotros, y tú, y nuestros niños.

And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.

Ich will dir für ihn bürgen; mich sollst du für ihn verantwortlich machen. Wenn ich dir ihn nicht wiederbringe und vor Augen stelle, so will ich all meine Lebtage schuldig vor dir dastehen.

Yo lo fío; á mí me pedirás cuenta de él: si yo no te lo volviere y lo pusiere delante de ti, seré para ti el culpante todos los días:

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever;

Wenn wir nicht über Gebühr gezaudert hätten, so hätten wir unterdes zweimal hin- und herreisen können.

Que si no nos hubiéramos detenido, cierto ahora hubiéramos ya vuelto dos veces.

For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”

Da antwortete ihnen ihr Vater Israel: Wenn es denn sein muß, so thut Folgendes: Nehmt in euren Säcken etwas von den Erzeugnissen des Landes mit und bringt dem Manne ein Geschenk: ein wenig Balsam und ein wenig Honig, Spezereien und Ladanum, Pistazien und Mandeln.

Entonces Israel su padre les respondió: Pues que así es, hacedlo; tomad de lo mejor de la tierra en vuestros vasos, y llevad á aquel varón un presente, un poco de bálsamo, y un poco de miel, aromas y mirra, nueces y almendras.

And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Their father, Israel, said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds;

Sodann nehmt den gleichen Betrag an Geld noch einmal mit: auch das Geld, das sich wiedergefunden hat oben in euren Säcken, nehmt wieder mit - vielleicht liegt ein Irrtum vor.

Y tomad en vuestras manos doblado dinero, y llevad en vuestra mano el dinero vuelto en las bocas de vuestros costales; quizá fué yerro.

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

Dazu nehmt auch euren Bruder hin, brecht auf und zieht wieder hin zu dem Manne.

Tomad también á vuestro hermano, y levantaos, y volved á aquel varón.

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

Take your brother also, get up, and return to the man.

Und Gott, der Allmächtige, verleihe, daß sich der Mann barmherzig gegen euch erzeigt, daß er euren anderen Bruder wieder mit euch ziehen läßt, dazu auch Benjamin; ich aber - wenn es denn sein muß, nun so bin ich eben verwaist.

Y el Dios Omnipotente os dé misericordias delante de aquel varón, y os suelte al otro vuestro hermano, y á este Benjamín. Y si he de ser privado de mis hijos, séalo.

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

Da nahmen die Männer das erwähnte Geschenk, nahmen auch anderes Geld mit sich, dazu Benjamin, brachen auf, zogen nach Ägypten und traten vor Joseph.

Entonces tomaron aquellos varones el presente, y tomaron en su mano doblado dinero, y á Benjamín; y se levantaron, y descendieron á Egipto, y presentáronse delante de José.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

Als nun Joseph wahrnahm, daß Benjamin unter ihnen sei, gebot er seinem Hausmeister: Führe diese Männer hinein ins Haus, schlachte ein Stück Vieh und richte zu; denn diese Männer sollen mittags mit mir essen.

Y vió José á Benjamín con ellos, y dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Mete en casa á esos hombres, y degüella víctima, y aderézala; porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al medio día.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.”

Der Mann that, wie Joseph befohlen hatte, und der Mann führte die Männer hinein in das Haus Josephs.

E hizo el hombre como José dijo; y metió aquel hombre á los hombres en casa de José.

And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

Da fürchteten sich die Männer, daß sie ins Haus Josephs geführt wurden, und sprachen: Wegen des Geldes, das sich bei unserer ersten Anwesenheit wieder in unsere Säcke verirrte, werden wir hineingeführt: man will sich auf uns werfen, uns überfallen und uns zu Sklaven machen, samt unseren Eseln.

Y aquellos hombres tuvieron temor, cuando fueron metidos en casa de José, y decían: Por el dinero que fué vuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez nos han metido aquí, para revolver contra nosotros, y dar sobre nosotros, y tomarnos por siervos á nosotros, y á nuestros asnos.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

Da traten sie an den Hausmeister Josephs heran und redeten ihn am Eingange des Hauses

Y llegáronse al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron á la entrada de la casa.

And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

also an: Bitte, mein Herr! Wir sind das erste Mal hierher gereist, nur um Getreide zu kaufen.

Y dijeron: Ay, señor mío, nosotros en realidad de verdad descendimos al principio á comprar alimentos:

and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food.

Als wir aber ins Nachtquartier gelangt waren und unsere Getreidesäcke aufbanden, da fand sich das Geld eines jeden oben in seinem Getreidesack - unser Geld nach seinem vollen Gewicht; wir haben es jetzt wieder mitgebracht.

Y aconteció que como vinimos al mesón y abrimos nuestros costales, he aquí el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, nuestro dinero en su justo peso; y hémoslo vuelto en nuestras manos.

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

Aber auch anderes Geld haben wir mitgebracht, um Getreide zu kaufen. Wir begreifen nicht, wer uns das Geld in die Getreidesäcke gelegt hat.

Hemos también traído en nuestras manos otro dinero para comprar alimentos: nosotros no sabemos quién haya puesto nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”

Da antwortete er: Beruhigt euch; seid ohne Sorge! Euer und eures Vaters Gott hat euch heimlich einen Schatz in eure Getreidesäcke gelegt. Euer Geld ist mir zugekommen. Hierauf führte er Simeon zu ihnen heraus.

Y él respondió: Paz á vosotros, no temáis; vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os dió el tesoro en vuestros costales: vuestro dinero vino á mí. Y sacó á Simeón á ellos.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.

Sodann brachte er die Männer ins Haus Josephs. Er gab ihnen Wasser, und sie wuschen ihre Füße, und ihren Eseln reichte er Futter.

Y metió aquel varón á aquellos hombres en casa de José: y dióles agua, y lavaron sus pies: y dió de comer á sus asnos.

And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

Sodann legten sie das Geschenk zurecht und warteten, bis Joseph mittags käme; denn sie hatten vernommen, daß sie dort das Mahl einnehmen sollten.

Als nun Joseph ins Haus eingetreten war, brachten sie ihm das Geschenk, das sie mit sich führten, hinein und verneigten sich vor ihm bis auf den Boden.

Er aber erkundigte sich nach ihrem Befinden und fragte: Geht es eurem alten Vater, von dem ihr spracht, wohl? Ist er noch am Leben?

Sie antworteten: Es geht deinem Diener, unserem Vater, wohl; er ist noch am Leben. Dabei bückten sie sich und verneigten sich.

Y ellos respondieron: Bien va á tu siervo nuestro padre; aun vive. Y se inclinaron, é hicieron reverencia.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

Da gewahrte er Benjamin, seinen leiblichen Bruder, und fragte: ist das euer jüngster Bruder, von dem ihr mir sagtet? und sprach: Gott gebe dir Gnade, mein Sohn!

Y alzando él sus ojos vió á Benjamín su hermano, hijo de su madre, y dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor, de quien me hablasteis? Y dijo: Dios tenga misericordia de ti, hijo mío.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?” He said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”

Dann aber brach Joseph schnell ab, denn er wurde von tiefer Rührung ergriffen, als er so seinem Bruder gegenüberstand, und suchte, wie er seinen Thränen freien Lauf lassen könne. Daher ging er hinein in das innere Gemach und weinte sich dort aus.

Dann wusch er sich das Gesicht und kam wieder heraus, that sich Gewalt an und befahl: Tragt auf!

Da trug man ihm besonders auf und ihnen besonders und ebenso den Ägyptern, die mit ihm speisten. Die Ägypter dürfen nämlich nicht mit den Hebräern zusammen speisen, denn das gilt den Ägyptern als eine Verunreinigung.

Y pusieron para él aparte, y separadamente para ellos, y aparte para los Egipcios que con él comían: porque los Egipcios no pueden comer pan con los Hebreos, lo cual es abominación á los Egipcios.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

Sie kamen aber vor ihn zu sitzen, vom Ältesten bis zum Jüngsten genau nach dem Alter geordnet; staunend sahen die Männer einander an.
