Die Teuerung aber drückte das Land.

Y EL hambre era grande en la tierra.

And the famine was sore in the land.

The famine was severe in the land.

Und da es verzehrt war, was sie an Getreide aus Ägypten gebracht hatten, sprach ihr Vater zu ihnen: Zieht wieder hin und kauft uns ein wenig Speise.

Y aconteció que como acabaron de comer el trigo que trajeron de Egipto, díjoles su padre: Volved, y comprad para nosotros un poco de alimento.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

When they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”

Da antwortete ihm Juda und sprach: Der Mann band uns das hart ein und sprach: Ihr sollt mein Angesicht nicht sehen, es sei denn euer Bruder mit euch.

Y respondió Judá, diciendo: Aquel varón nos protestó con ánimo resuelto, diciendo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’

Ist's nun, daß du unsern Bruder mit uns sendest, so wollen wir hinabziehen und dir zu essen kaufen.

Si enviares á nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y te compraremos alimento:

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food;

Ist's aber, daß du ihn nicht sendest, so ziehen wir nicht hinab. Denn der Mann hat gesagt zu uns: Ihr sollt mein Angesicht nicht sehen, euer Bruder sei denn mit euch.

Pero si no le enviares, no descenderemos: porque aquel varón nos dijo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

but if you don’t send him, we won’t go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”

Israel sprach: Warum habt ihr so übel an mir getan, daß ihr dem Mann ansagtet, daß ihr noch einen Bruder habt?

Y dijo Israel: ¿Por qué me hicisteis tanto mal, declarando al varón que teníais más hermano?

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”

Sie antworteten: Der Mann forschte so genau nach uns und unsrer Freundschaft und sprach: Lebt euer Vater noch? Habt ihr auch noch einen Bruder? Da sagten wir ihm, wie er uns fragte. Wie konnten wir wissen, daß er sagen würde: Bringt euren Bruder mit hernieder?

Y ellos respondieron: Aquel varón nos preguntó expresamente por nosotros, y por nuestra parentela, diciendo: ¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿tenéis otro hermano? y declarámosle conforme á estas palabras. ¿Podíamos nosotros saber que había de decir: Haced venir á vuestro hermano?

And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

Da sprach Juda zu Israel, seinem Vater: Laß den Knaben mit mir ziehen, daß wir uns aufmachen und reisen, und leben und nicht sterben, wir und du und unsre Kindlein.

Entonces Judá dijo á Israel su padre: Envía al mozo conmigo, y nos levantaremos é iremos, á fin que vivamos y no muramos nosotros, y tú, y nuestros niños.

And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.

Ich will Bürge für ihn sein, von meinen Händen sollst du ihn fordern. Wenn ich dir ihn nicht wiederbringe und vor deine Augen stelle, so will ich mein Leben lang die Schuld tragen.

Yo lo fío; á mí me pedirás cuenta de él: si yo no te lo volviere y lo pusiere delante de ti, seré para ti el culpante todos los días:

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever;

Denn wo wir nicht hätten verzogen, wären wir schon wohl zweimal wiedergekommen.

Que si no nos hubiéramos detenido, cierto ahora hubiéramos ya vuelto dos veces.

For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”

Da sprach Israel, ihr Vater, zu ihnen: Muß es denn ja also sein, so tut's und nehmt von des Landes besten Früchten in eure Säcke und bringt dem Manne Geschenke hinab: ein wenig Balsam und Honig, Würze und Myrrhe, Datteln und Mandeln.

Entonces Israel su padre les respondió: Pues que así es, hacedlo; tomad de lo mejor de la tierra en vuestros vasos, y llevad á aquel varón un presente, un poco de bálsamo, y un poco de miel, aromas y mirra, nueces y almendras.

And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Their father, Israel, said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds;

Nehmt auch anderes Geld mit euch; und das Geld, das euch oben in euren Säcken wieder geworden ist, bringt auch wieder mit euch. Vielleicht ist ein Irrtum da geschehen.

Y tomad en vuestras manos doblado dinero, y llevad en vuestra mano el dinero vuelto en las bocas de vuestros costales; quizá fué yerro.

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

Dazu nehmt euren Bruder, macht euch auf und kommt wieder zu dem Manne.

Tomad también á vuestro hermano, y levantaos, y volved á aquel varón.

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

Take your brother also, get up, and return to the man.

Aber der allmächtige Gott gebe euch Barmherzigkeit vor dem Manne, daß er euch lasse euren andern Bruder und Benjamin. Ich aber muß sein wie einer, der seiner Kinder gar beraubt ist.

Y el Dios Omnipotente os dé misericordias delante de aquel varón, y os suelte al otro vuestro hermano, y á este Benjamín. Y si he de ser privado de mis hijos, séalo.

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

Da nahmen sie diese Geschenke und das Geld zwiefältig mit sich und Benjamin, machten sich auf, zogen nach Ägypten und traten vor Joseph.

Entonces tomaron aquellos varones el presente, y tomaron en su mano doblado dinero, y á Benjamín; y se levantaron, y descendieron á Egipto, y presentáronse delante de José.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

Da sah sie Joseph mit Benjamin und sprach zu seinem Haushalter: Führe diese Männer ins Haus und schlachte und richte zu; denn sie sollen zu Mittag mit mir essen.

Y vió José á Benjamín con ellos, y dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Mete en casa á esos hombres, y degüella víctima, y aderézala; porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al medio día.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.”

Und der Mann tat, wie ihm Joseph gesagt hatte, und führte die Männer in Josephs Haus.

E hizo el hombre como José dijo; y metió aquel hombre á los hombres en casa de José.

And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

The man did as Joseph commanded, and the man brought the men to Joseph’s house.

Sie fürchteten sich aber, daß sie in Josephs Haus geführt wurden und sprachen: Wir sind hereingeführt um des Geldes willen, das wir in unsern Säcken das erstemal wiedergefunden haben, daß er's auf uns bringe und fälle ein Urteil über uns, damit er uns nehme zu eigenen Knechten samt unsern Eseln.

Y aquellos hombres tuvieron temor, cuando fueron metidos en casa de José, y decían: Por el dinero que fué vuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez nos han metido aquí, para revolver contra nosotros, y dar sobre nosotros, y tomarnos por siervos á nosotros, y á nuestros asnos.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

Darum traten sie zu Josephs Haushalter und redeten mit ihm vor der Haustür

Y llegáronse al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron á la entrada de la casa.

And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

und sprachen: Mein Herr, wir sind das erstemal herabgezogen Speise zu kaufen,

Y dijeron: Ay, señor mío, nosotros en realidad de verdad descendimos al principio á comprar alimentos:

And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food.

und da wir in die Herberge kamen und unsere Säcke auftaten, siehe, da war eines jeglichen Geld oben in seinem Sack mit völligem Gewicht; darum haben wir's wieder mit uns gebracht,

Y aconteció que como vinimos al mesón y abrimos nuestros costales, he aquí el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, nuestro dinero en su justo peso; y hémoslo vuelto en nuestras manos.

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

When we came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and behold, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back in our hand.

haben auch anderes Geld mit uns hergebracht, Speise zu kaufen; wir wissen aber nicht, wer uns unser Geld in unsre Säcke gesteckt hat.

Hemos también traído en nuestras manos otro dinero para comprar alimentos: nosotros no sabemos quién haya puesto nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”

Er aber sprach: Gehabt euch wohl, fürchtet euch nicht. Euer Gott hat euch einen Schatz gegeben in eure Säcke. Euer Geld ist mir geworden. Und er führte Simeon zu ihnen heraus

Y él respondió: Paz á vosotros, no temáis; vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os dió el tesoro en vuestros costales: vuestro dinero vino á mí. Y sacó á Simeón á ellos.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.

und führte sie in Josephs Haus, gab ihnen Wasser, daß sie ihre Füße wuschen, und gab ihren Eseln Futter.

Y metió aquel varón á aquellos hombres en casa de José: y dióles agua, y lavaron sus pies: y dió de comer á sus asnos.

And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

Sie aber bereiteten das Geschenk zu, bis das Joseph kam auf den Mittag; denn sie hatten gehört, daß sie daselbst das Brot essen sollten.

Y ellos prepararon el presente entretanto que venía José al medio día, porque habían oído que allí habían de comer pan.

And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

Da nun Joseph zum Hause einging, brachten sie ihm ins Haus das Geschenk in ihren Händen und fielen vor ihm nieder zur Erde.

Y vino José á casa, y ellos le trajeron el presente que tenían en su mano dentro de casa, é inclináronse á él hasta tierra.

And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

Er aber grüßte sie freundlich und sprach: Geht es eurem Vater, dem Alten, wohl, von dem ihr mir sagtet? Lebt er noch?

Entonces les preguntó él cómo estaban, y dijo: ¿Vuestro padre, el anciano que dijisteis, lo pasa bien? ¿vive todavía?

And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

Sie antworteten: Es geht deinem Knechte, unserm Vater, wohl, und er lebt noch. Und sie neigten sich und fielen vor ihm nieder.

Y ellos respondieron: Bien va á tu siervo nuestro padre; aun vive. Y se inclinaron, é hicieron reverencia.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

Und er hob seine Augen auf und sah seinen Bruder Benjamin, seiner Mutter Sohn, und sprach: Ist das euer jüngster Bruder, von dem ihr mir sagtet? und sprach weiter: Gott sei dir gnädig, mein Sohn!

Y alzando él sus ojos vió á Benjamín su hermano, hijo de su madre, y dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor, de quien me hablasteis? Y dijo: Dios tenga misericordia de ti, hijo mío.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?” He said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”

Und Joseph eilte, denn sein Herz entbrannte ihm gegen seinen Bruder, und suchte, wo er weinte, und ging in seine Kammer und weinte daselbst.

Entonces José se apresuró, porque se conmovieron sus entrañas á causa de su hermano, y procuró donde llorar: y entróse en su cámara, y lloró allí.

And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.

Und da er sein Angesicht gewaschen hatte, ging er heraus und hielt sich fest und sprach: Legt Brot auf!

Y lavó su rostro, y salió fuera, y reprimióse, y dijo: Poned pan.

And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

Und man trug ihm besonders auf und jenen auch besonders und den Ägyptern, die mit ihm aßen auch besonders. Denn die Ägypter dürfen nicht Brot essen mit den Hebräern, denn es ist ein Greuel vor ihnen.

Y pusieron para él aparte, y separadamente para ellos, y aparte para los Egipcios que con él comían: porque los Egipcios no pueden comer pan con los Hebreos, lo cual es abominación á los Egipcios.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

Und man setzte sie ihm gegenüber, den Erstgeborenen nach seiner Erstgeburt und den Jüngsten nach seiner Jugend. Des verwunderten sie sich untereinander.

Y sentáronse delante de él, el mayor conforme á su mayoría, y el menor conforme á su menoría; y estaban aquellos hombres atónitos mirándose el uno al otro.

And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
