Der Hunger aber lag schwer auf der Erde.

Y EL hambre era grande en la tierra.

And the famine was sore in the land.

Als sie nun das aus Ägypten gebrachte Korn aufgezehrt hatten, sprach ihr Vater zu ihnen: "Geht noch einmal, ein wenig Korn für uns zu kaufen!"

Y aconteció que como acabaron de comer el trigo que trajeron de Egipto, díjoles su padre: Volved, y comprad para nosotros un poco de alimento.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

When they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”

Da sprach Juda zu ihm: "Nachdrücklich hat uns der Mann eingeschärft: 'Ihr dürft mir nicht mehr vor die Augen kommen, euer Bruder sei denn bei euch.'

Y respondió Judá, diciendo: Aquel varón nos protestó con ánimo resuelto, diciendo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’

Willst du also unseren Bruder mitgeben, dann ziehen wir hinab und kaufen Korn.

Si enviares á nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y te compraremos alimento:

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food;

Gibst du ihn aber uns nicht mit, dann ziehen wir nicht hinab. Der Mann hat ja zu uns gesagt: 'Ihr dürft mir nicht vor die Augen kommen, euer Bruder sei denn bei euch.'"

Pero si no le enviares, no descenderemos: porque aquel varón nos dijo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

but if you don’t send him, we won’t go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”

Da sprach Israel: "Warum habt ihr es mir zu Leid getan, dem Manne zu verraten, daß ihr noch einen Bruder habt?"

Y dijo Israel: ¿Por qué me hicisteis tanto mal, declarando al varón que teníais más hermano?

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”

Da sprachen sie: "Der Mann erkundigte sich genau nach uns und unserer Familie. Er sprach: 'Ist euer Vater noch am Leben? Habt ihr noch einen Bruder?' Da gaben wir ihm Bescheid, wie es sich verhält. Konnten wir denn wissen, daß er sagen würde: 'Bringt euren Bruder her?'"

Y ellos respondieron: Aquel varón nos preguntó expresamente por nosotros, y por nuestra parentela, diciendo: ¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿tenéis otro hermano? y declarámosle conforme á estas palabras. ¿Podíamos nosotros saber que había de decir: Haced venir á vuestro hermano?

And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

Da sprach Juda zu seinem Vater Israel: "Gib mir den Knaben mit! Dann brechen wir auf und gehen und bleiben am Leben und müssen nicht sterben, wir so gut wie du und unsere Kinder.

Entonces Judá dijo á Israel su padre: Envía al mozo conmigo, y nos levantaremos é iremos, á fin que vivamos y no muramos nosotros, y tú, y nuestros niños.

And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.

Ich bürge für ihn. Fordere ihn von nur! Bringe ich ihn dir nicht und stelle ihn dir nicht vor Augen, so will ich lebenslang vor dir schuldig sein.

Yo lo fío; á mí me pedirás cuenta de él: si yo no te lo volviere y lo pusiere delante de ti, seré para ti el culpante todos los días:

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever;

Hätten wir nicht allzulange gezaudert, wir wären schon zweimal zurück."

Que si no nos hubiéramos detenido, cierto ahora hubiéramos ya vuelto dos veces.

For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”

Da sprach ihr Vater Israel zu ihnen: "Muß es sein, so tut dies: Nehmt vom feinsten Landeserzeugnis in euer Gepäck und bringt es als Geschenk dem Manne hinab, etwas Balsam, etwas Honig, Spezereien, Ladanum, Pistazien und Mandeln!

Entonces Israel su padre les respondió: Pues que así es, hacedlo; tomad de lo mejor de la tierra en vuestros vasos, y llevad á aquel varón un presente, un poco de bálsamo, y un poco de miel, aromas y mirra, nueces y almendras.

And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

Their father, Israel, said to them, “If it must be so, then do this: Take from the choice fruits of the land in your bags, and carry down a present for the man, a little balm, a little honey, spices and myrrh, nuts, and almonds;

Nehmt noch einmal soviel Geld mit euch! Auch das Geld oben in euren Säcken müßt ihr wieder mitnehmen. Vielleicht war es ein Versehen.

Y tomad en vuestras manos doblado dinero, y llevad en vuestra mano el dinero vuelto en las bocas de vuestros costales; quizá fué yerro.

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

Auch euren Bruder nehmt mit! Auf! Zieht wieder zu dem Manne!

Tomad también á vuestro hermano, y levantaos, y volved á aquel varón.

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

Take your brother also, get up, and return to the man.

Gott, der Allmächtige, schenke euch Erbarmen bei dem Manne, daß er euren anderen Bruder euch freigebe, desgleichen Benjamin! Ich aber! Nun, dann bin ich eben kinderlos."

Y el Dios Omnipotente os dé misericordias delante de aquel varón, y os suelte al otro vuestro hermano, y á este Benjamín. Y si he de ser privado de mis hijos, séalo.

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

So nahmen die Männer jenes Geschenk; auch den doppelten Geldbetrag nahmen sie mit, dazu Benjamin, brachen auf, zogen nach Ägypten und traten vor Joseph.

Entonces tomaron aquellos varones el presente, y tomaron en su mano doblado dinero, y á Benjamín; y se levantaron, y descendieron á Egipto, y presentáronse delante de José.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

Und Joseph sah bei ihnen den Benjamin. Da sprach er zu seinem Hausverwalter: "Führe die Männer ins Haus, und man schlachte ein Stück Vieh und richte es her! Die Männer sollen mittags bei mir speisen!"

Y vió José á Benjamín con ellos, y dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Mete en casa á esos hombres, y degüella víctima, y aderézala; porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al medio día.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

When Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the steward of his house, “Bring the men into the house, and butcher an animal, and prepare; for the men will dine with me at noon.”

Und der Mann tat, wie Joseph gesagt. Und der Mann führte die Männer in Josephs Haus.

E hizo el hombre como José dijo; y metió aquel hombre á los hombres en casa de José.

And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

The man did as Joseph commanded, and the man brought the men to Joseph’s house.

Aber die Männer fürchteten sich, weil sie in Josephs Haus geführt wurden, und sprachen: "Des Geldes wegen, das beim vorigen Male wieder in unsere Säcke geriet, werden wir hereingebracht. Man will einen Vorwand gegen uns haben, uns überwältigen und uns als Sklaven behalten, samt unseren Eseln."

Y aquellos hombres tuvieron temor, cuando fueron metidos en casa de José, y decían: Por el dinero que fué vuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez nos han metido aquí, para revolver contra nosotros, y dar sobre nosotros, y tomarnos por siervos á nosotros, y á nuestros asnos.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

So traten sie zu dem Manne, der Josephs Haus verwaltete, und redeten ihn an der Hauspforte an.

Y llegáronse al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron á la entrada de la casa.

And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

Sie sprachen: "Bitte, mein Herr! Wir sind schon einmal hierher gereist, Korn zu kaufen.

Y dijeron: Ay, señor mío, nosotros en realidad de verdad descendimos al principio á comprar alimentos:

And said, O sir, we came indeed down at the first time to buy food:

and said, “Oh, my lord, we indeed came down the first time to buy food.

Als wir danach in die Herberge kamen und unsere Säcke öffneten, da lag eines jeden Geld oben in seinem Sack, unser Geld nach seinem Vollgewicht. Nun bringen wir es eigenhändig zurück.

Y aconteció que como vinimos al mesón y abrimos nuestros costales, he aquí el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, nuestro dinero en su justo peso; y hémoslo vuelto en nuestras manos.

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

When we came to the lodging place, we opened our sacks, and behold, each man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight. We have brought it back in our hand.

Wir bringen auch anderes Geld, um Korn zu kaufen. Wir wissen nicht, wer unser Geld in unsere Säcke gelegt hat."

Hemos también traído en nuestras manos otro dinero para comprar alimentos: nosotros no sabemos quién haya puesto nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”

Er sprach: "Beruhigt euch! Fürchtet euch nicht! Euer und eures Vaters Gott hat euch heimlich einen Schatz in eure Säcke gelegt. Euer Geld ist mir zugekommen." Dann gab er ihnen Simeon heraus.

Y él respondió: Paz á vosotros, no temáis; vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os dió el tesoro en vuestros costales: vuestro dinero vino á mí. Y sacó á Simeón á ellos.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.

Darauf führte der Mann die Männer in Josephs Haus und brachte Wasser, daß sie sich die Füße wuschen, und ihren Eseln gab er Futter.

Y metió aquel varón á aquellos hombres en casa de José: y dióles agua, y lavaron sus pies: y dió de comer á sus asnos.

And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

Sie aber legten das Geschenk zurecht, bis Joseph mittags käme; denn sie hatten gehört, daß sie dort das Mahl einnehmen sollten.

And they made ready the present against Joseph came at noon: for they heard that they should eat bread there.

Joseph trat nun ein; da überreichten sie ihm das Geschenk, das sie bei sich hatten, und neigten sich vor ihm bis zur Erde.

Y vino José á casa, y ellos le trajeron el presente que tenían en su mano dentro de casa, é inclináronse á él hasta tierra.

And when Joseph came home, they brought him the present which was in their hand into the house, and bowed themselves to him to the earth.

Er fragte nach ihrem Befinden und sprach: "Wie geht es eurem alten Vater, von dem ihr gesprochen? Lebt er noch?"

Entonces les preguntó él cómo estaban, y dijo: ¿Vuestro padre, el anciano que dijisteis, lo pasa bien? ¿vive todavía?

And he asked them of their welfare, and said, Is your father well, the old man of whom ye spake? Is he yet alive?

Sie sprachen: "Gut geht es deinem Diener, unserem Vater: Er lebt noch." Dabei bückten und verneigten sie sich.

Y ellos respondieron: Bien va á tu siervo nuestro padre; aun vive. Y se inclinaron, é hicieron reverencia.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

Wie er aber seine Augen erhob, erblickte er seinen Vollbruder Benjamin. Da sprach er: "Ist das euer jüngster Bruder, von dem ihr zu mir gesprochen?" Dann sprach er: "Gott gebe dir Huld, mein Sohn!"

Y alzando él sus ojos vió á Benjamín su hermano, hijo de su madre, y dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor, de quien me hablasteis? Y dijo: Dios tenga misericordia de ti, hijo mío.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

He lifted up his eyes, and saw Benjamin, his brother, his mother’s son, and said, “Is this your youngest brother, of whom you spoke to me?” He said, “God be gracious to you, my son.”

Joseph aber brach schnell ab; denn sein Herz brannte nach seinem Bruder, und er ward zu Tränen gerührt. So ging er in das innere Gemach und weinte dort.

Entonces José se apresuró, porque se conmovieron sus entrañas á causa de su hermano, y procuró donde llorar: y entróse en su cámara, y lloró allí.

And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

Joseph hurried, for his heart yearned over his brother; and he sought a place to weep. He entered into his room, and wept there.

Dann wusch er sein Antlitz, trat hervor, hielt an sich und sprach: "Tragt das Mahl auf!"

Y lavó su rostro, y salió fuera, y reprimióse, y dijo: Poned pan.

And he washed his face, and went out, and refrained himself, and said, Set on bread.

Da trug man ihm und jenen besonders auf, ebenso den Ägyptern, die mit ihm speisten. Denn die Ägypter dürfen nicht mit den Hebräern zusammen speisen; das ist für die Ägypter ein Greuel.

Y pusieron para él aparte, y separadamente para ellos, y aparte para los Egipcios que con él comían: porque los Egipcios no pueden comer pan con los Hebreos, lo cual es abominación á los Egipcios.

And they set on for him by himself, and for them by themselves, and for the Egyptians, which did eat with him, by themselves: because the Egyptians might not eat bread with the Hebrews; for that is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

Sie saßen aber nach seiner Weisung, vom Ältesten bis zum Jüngsten genau nach dem Alter geordnet. Staunend sahen sich die Männer an.

Y sentáronse delante de él, el mayor conforme á su mayoría, y el menor conforme á su menoría; y estaban aquellos hombres atónitos mirándose el uno al otro.

And they sat before him, the firstborn according to his birthright, and the youngest according to his youth: and the men marvelled one at another.

Er aber ließ von sich zu ihnen Gerichte hinüberbringen; Benjamins Gericht war dabei fünfmal größer als ihrer aller Gerichte. Dann tranken sie und wurden bei ihm guter Dinge.

Y él tomó viandas de delante de sí para ellos; mas la porción de Benjamín era cinco veces como cualquiera de las de ellos. Y bebieron, y alegráronse con él.

And he took and sent messes unto them from before him: but Benjamin’s mess was five times so much as any of theirs. And they drank, and were merry with him.
