OR la fame era grave nel paese.

Y EL hambre era grande en la tierra.

And the famine was sore in the land.

E, dopo ch’essi ebber finito di mangiare il grano che aveano portato di Egitto, il padre loro disse loro: Tornate a comperarci un poco di vittuaglia.

Y aconteció que como acabaron de comer el trigo que trajeron de Egipto, díjoles su padre: Volved, y comprad para nosotros un poco de alimento.

And it came to pass, when they had eaten up the corn which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said unto them, Go again, buy us a little food.

When they had eaten up the grain which they had brought out of Egypt, their father said to them, “Go again, buy us a little more food.”

E Giuda gli disse: Quell’uomo ci ha espressamente protestato, e detto: Voi non vedrete la mia faccia, che il vostro fratello non sia con voi.

Y respondió Judá, diciendo: Aquel varón nos protestó con ánimo resuelto, diciendo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

And Judah spake unto him, saying, The man did solemnly protest unto us, saying, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

Judah spoke to him, saying, “The man solemnly warned us, saying, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’

Se tu mandi il nostro fratello con noi, noi scenderemo, e ti compreremo della vittuaglia.

Si enviares á nuestro hermano con nosotros, descenderemos y te compraremos alimento:

If thou wilt send our brother with us, we will go down and buy thee food:

If you’ll send our brother with us, we’ll go down and buy you food;

Ma, se pur tu non vel mandi, noi non iscenderemo; perciocchè quell’uomo ci ha detto: Voi non vedrete la mia faccia, che il vostro fratello non sia con voi.

Pero si no le enviares, no descenderemos: porque aquel varón nos dijo: No veréis mi rostro sin vuestro hermano con vosotros.

But if thou wilt not send him, we will not go down: for the man said unto us, Ye shall not see my face, except your brother be with you.

but if you don’t send him, we won’t go down, for the man said to us, ‘You shall not see my face, unless your brother is with you.’”

E Israele disse: Perchè mi avete voi fatto questa offesa, di dichiarare a quell’uomo che avevate ancora un fratello?

Y dijo Israel: ¿Por qué me hicisteis tanto mal, declarando al varón que teníais más hermano?

And Israel said, Wherefore dealt ye so ill with me, as to tell the man whether ye had yet a brother?

Israel said, “Why did you treat me so badly, telling the man that you had another brother?”

Ed essi dissero: Quell’uomo ci domandò partitamente di noi, e del nostro parentado, dicendo: Il padre vostro vive egli ancora? avete voi alcun altro fratello? E noi gliene demmo contezza, secondo quelle parole; potevamo noi in alcun modo sapere ch’egli direbbe: Fate venire il vostro fratello?

Y ellos respondieron: Aquel varón nos preguntó expresamente por nosotros, y por nuestra parentela, diciendo: ¿Vive aún vuestro padre? ¿tenéis otro hermano? y declarámosle conforme á estas palabras. ¿Podíamos nosotros saber que había de decir: Haced venir á vuestro hermano?

And they said, The man asked us straitly of our state, and of our kindred, saying, Is your father yet alive? have ye another brother? and we told him according to the tenor of these words: could we certainly know that he would say, Bring your brother down?

They said, “The man asked directly concerning ourselves, and concerning our relatives, saying, ‘Is your father still alive? Have you another brother?’ We just answered his questions. Is there any way we could know that he would say, ‘Bring your brother down’?”

E Giuda disse a Israele, suo padre: Lascia venire il giovane meco, e noi ci leveremo, e andremo, e viveremo, e non morremo, e noi, e tu, e le nostre famiglie.

Entonces Judá dijo á Israel su padre: Envía al mozo conmigo, y nos levantaremos é iremos, á fin que vivamos y no muramos nosotros, y tú, y nuestros niños.

And Judah said unto Israel his father, Send the lad with me, and we will arise and go; that we may live, and not die, both we, and thou, and also our little ones.

Judah said to Israel, his father, “Send the boy with me, and we’ll get up and go, so that we may live, and not die, both we, and you, and also our little ones.

Io te lo sicuro; ridomandalo dalla mia mano; se io non tel riconduco, e non tel rappresento, io sarò colpevole inverso te in perpetuo.

Yo lo fío; á mí me pedirás cuenta de él: si yo no te lo volviere y lo pusiere delante de ti, seré para ti el culpante todos los días:

I will be surety for him; of my hand shalt thou require him: if I bring him not unto thee, and set him before thee, then let me bear the blame for ever:

I’ll be collateral for him. From my hand will you require him. If I don’t bring him to you, and set him before you, then let me bear the blame forever;

Che se non ci fossimo indugiati, certo ora saremmo già ritornati due volte

Que si no nos hubiéramos detenido, cierto ahora hubiéramos ya vuelto dos veces.

For except we had lingered, surely now we had returned this second time.

for if we hadn’t delayed, surely we would have returned a second time by now.”

E Israele, lor padre, disse loro: Se pur qui così bisogna fare, fate questo: Prendete delle più isquisite cose di questo paese nelle vostre sacca, e portatene un presente a quell’uomo; un poco di balsamo, e un poco di mele, e degli aromati, e della mirra, e de’ pinocchi, e delle mandorle.

Entonces Israel su padre les respondió: Pues que así es, hacedlo; tomad de lo mejor de la tierra en vuestros vasos, y llevad á aquel varón un presente, un poco de bálsamo, y un poco de miel, aromas y mirra, nueces y almendras.

And their father Israel said unto them, If it must be so now, do this; take of the best fruits in the land in your vessels, and carry down the man a present, a little balm, and a little honey, spices, and myrrh, nuts, and almonds:

E pigliate in mano danari al doppio; riportate eziandio i danari che vi furono rimessi alla bocca de’ vostri sacchi; forse fu errore.

Y tomad en vuestras manos doblado dinero, y llevad en vuestra mano el dinero vuelto en las bocas de vuestros costales; quizá fué yerro.

And take double money in your hand; and the money that was brought again in the mouth of your sacks, carry it again in your hand; peradventure it was an oversight:

and take double money in your hand, and take back the money that was returned in the mouth of your sacks. Perhaps it was an oversight.

E prendete il vostro fratello, e levatevi e ritornate a quell’uomo.

Tomad también á vuestro hermano, y levantaos, y volved á aquel varón.

Take also your brother, and arise, go again unto the man:

E facciavi l’Iddio Onnipotente trovar pietà appo quell’uomo, sì ch’egli vi rilasci il vostro altro fratello, e Beniamino; e se pure io sarò orbato di figliuoli, sialo

Y el Dios Omnipotente os dé misericordias delante de aquel varón, y os suelte al otro vuestro hermano, y á este Benjamín. Y si he de ser privado de mis hijos, séalo.

And God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may send away your other brother, and Benjamin. If I be bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.

May God Almighty give you mercy before the man, that he may release to you your other brother and Benjamin. If I am bereaved of my children, I am bereaved.”

Quegli uomini adunque presero quel presente; presero eziandio danari al doppio, e Beniamino; e, levatisi, scesero in Egitto, e si presentarono davanti a Giuseppe.

Entonces tomaron aquellos varones el presente, y tomaron en su mano doblado dinero, y á Benjamín; y se levantaron, y descendieron á Egipto, y presentáronse delante de José.

And the men took that present, and they took double money in their hand, and Benjamin; and rose up, and went down to Egypt, and stood before Joseph.

E Giuseppe, veggendo Beniamino con loro, disse al suo mastro di casa: Mena questi uomini dentro alla casa, e ammazza delle carni e apparecchiale; perciocchè questi uomini mangeranno meco a meriggio.

Y vió José á Benjamín con ellos, y dijo al mayordomo de su casa: Mete en casa á esos hombres, y degüella víctima, y aderézala; porque estos hombres comerán conmigo al medio día.

And when Joseph saw Benjamin with them, he said to the ruler of his house, Bring these men home, and slay, and make ready; for these men shall dine with me at noon.

E colui fece come Giuseppe avea detto, e menò quegli uomini dentro alla casa di Giuseppe.

E hizo el hombre como José dijo; y metió aquel hombre á los hombres en casa de José.

And the man did as Joseph bade; and the man brought the men into Joseph’s house.

The man did as Joseph commanded, and the man brought the men to Joseph’s house.

E quegli uomini temettero, perciocchè erano menati dentro alla casa di Giuseppe, e dissero: Noi siamo menati qua entro per que’ danari che ci furono tornati ne’ nostri sacchi la prima volta; acciocchè egli si rivolti addosso a noi, e si avventi contro a noi, e ci prenda per servi, insieme co’ nostri asini.

Y aquellos hombres tuvieron temor, cuando fueron metidos en casa de José, y decían: Por el dinero que fué vuelto en nuestros costales la primera vez nos han metido aquí, para revolver contra nosotros, y dar sobre nosotros, y tomarnos por siervos á nosotros, y á nuestros asnos.

And the men were afraid, because they were brought into Joseph’s house; and they said, Because of the money that was returned in our sacks at the first time are we brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, and fall upon us, and take us for bondmen, and our asses.

The men were afraid, because they were brought to Joseph’s house; and they said, “Because of the money that was returned in our sacks the first time, we’re brought in; that he may seek occasion against us, attack us, and seize us as slaves, along with our donkeys.”

E accostatisi al mastro di casa di Giuseppe, gli parlarono in su l’entrata della casa.

Y llegáronse al mayordomo de la casa de José, y le hablaron á la entrada de la casa.

And they came near to the steward of Joseph’s house, and they communed with him at the door of the house,

E dissero: Ahi, signor mio! certo da principio noi scendemmo per comperar della vittuaglia.

Or avvenne, come fummo giunti all’albergo, che, aprendo i nostri sacchi, ecco, i danari di ciascun di noi erano alla bocca del suo sacco; i nostri danari vi erano appunto secondo il lor peso; e noi li abbiamo riportati con noi.

Y aconteció que como vinimos al mesón y abrimos nuestros costales, he aquí el dinero de cada uno estaba en la boca de su costal, nuestro dinero en su justo peso; y hémoslo vuelto en nuestras manos.

And it came to pass, when we came to the inn, that we opened our sacks, and, behold, every man’s money was in the mouth of his sack, our money in full weight: and we have brought it again in our hand.

Abbiamo, oltre a ciò, portati nelle nostre mani altri danari per comperar della vittuaglia; noi non sappiamo chi mettesse i nostri danari ne’ nostri sacchi.

Hemos también traído en nuestras manos otro dinero para comprar alimentos: nosotros no sabemos quién haya puesto nuestro dinero en nuestros costales.

And other money have we brought down in our hands to buy food: we cannot tell who put our money in our sacks.

We have brought down other money in our hand to buy food. We don’t know who put our money in our sacks.”

Ed egli disse loro: Datevi pace; non temiate; l’Iddio vostro, e l’Iddio del padre vostro, ha messo un tesoro ne’ vostri sacchi; i vostri danari mi vennero in mano.

Y él respondió: Paz á vosotros, no temáis; vuestro Dios y el Dios de vuestro padre os dió el tesoro en vuestros costales: vuestro dinero vino á mí. Y sacó á Simeón á ellos.

And he said, Peace be to you, fear not: your God, and the God of your father, hath given you treasure in your sacks: I had your money. And he brought Simeon out unto them.

He said, “Peace be to you. Don’t be afraid. Your God, and the God of your father, has given you treasure in your sacks. I received your money.” He brought Simeon out to them.

Poi trasse lor fuori Simeone. E, menatili dentro alla casa di Giuseppe, fece portar dell’acqua, ed essi si lavarono i piedi; ed egli diede della pastura ai loro asini.

Y metió aquel varón á aquellos hombres en casa de José: y dióles agua, y lavaron sus pies: y dió de comer á sus asnos.

And the man brought the men into Joseph’s house, and gave them water, and they washed their feet; and he gave their asses provender.

E aspettando che Giuseppe venisse a meriggio, essi apparecchiarono quel presente; perciocchè aveano inteso che resterebbero quivi a mangiare

Ed essi dissero: Nostro padre, tuo servitore, sta bene; egli vive ancora. E s’inchinarono, e gli fecero riverenza.

Y ellos respondieron: Bien va á tu siervo nuestro padre; aun vive. Y se inclinaron, é hicieron reverencia.

And they answered, Thy servant our father is in good health, he is yet alive. And they bowed down their heads, and made obeisance.

They said, “Your servant, our father, is well. He is still alive.” They bowed down humbly.

E Giuseppe alzò gli occhi, e vide Beniamino, suo fratello, figliuol di sua madre, e disse: È costui il vostro fratel minore, del qual mi parlaste? Poi disse: Iddio ti sia favorevole, figliuol mio.

Y alzando él sus ojos vió á Benjamín su hermano, hijo de su madre, y dijo: ¿Es éste vuestro hermano menor, de quien me hablasteis? Y dijo: Dios tenga misericordia de ti, hijo mío.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw his brother Benjamin, his mother’s son, and said, Is this your younger brother, of whom ye spake unto me? And he said, God be gracious unto thee, my son.

E Giuseppe si ritrasse prestamente; perciocchè le sue viscere si riscaldavano inverso il suo fratello; e cercando luogo per piangere, se n’entrò nella cameretta, e quivi pianse.

Entonces José se apresuró, porque se conmovieron sus entrañas á causa de su hermano, y procuró donde llorar: y entróse en su cámara, y lloró allí.

And Joseph made haste; for his bowels did yearn upon his brother: and he sought where to weep; and he entered into his chamber, and wept there.

Y pusieron para él aparte, y separadamente para ellos, y aparte para los Egipcios que con él comían: porque los Egipcios no pueden comer pan con los Hebreos, lo cual es abominación á los Egipcios.
