1Nach Verlauf zweier Jahre träumte Pharao, er stehe am Nil.
2Da stiegen aus dem Nil sieben Kühe, prächtig von Aussehen und fett an Fleisch, und weideten im Riedgras.
3Ihnen nach stiegen sieben andere Kühe aus dem Nil, häßlich von Aussehen und mager an Fleisch, und traten neben jene Kühe am Nilufer.
4Dann fraßen die häßlichen und mageren Kühe die sieben stattlichen und fetten Kühe. Da erwachte Pharao.
5Er schlief wieder ein, da träumte er zum zweitenmal. Sieben Ähren wuchsen an einem Halm, dick und schön.
6Ihnen nach sproßten sieben Ähren, dürr und vom Ostwind versengt.
7Und die dürren Ähren verschlangen die sieben dicken und vollen Ähren. Da erwachte Pharao; ein Traum war es gewesen.
8Am Morgen aber war sein Gemüt noch unruhig; da sandte er hin und ließ alle Schriftkundigen und Weisen Ägyptens rufen. Und Pharao erzählte ihnen seine Träume; aber niemand vermochte sie dem Pharao zu deuten.
9Da nahm der Obermundschenk das Wort und sprach zu Pharao: "Heute muß ich meiner Nachlässigkeit gedenken.
10Der Pharao hatte einst auf seine Diener gezürnt, und so legte er mich in Gewahrsam in das Haus des Anführers der Leibwächter, mich und den Oberbäcker.
11Da träumten wir beide in einer Nacht, und zwar hatte jeder einen besonderen Traum.
12Nun war bei uns dort ein hebräischer Jüngling, ein Sklave des Obersten der Leibwächter, und dem erzählten wir es, und jener deutete uns unsere Träume. Jedem deutete er, seinem Traum gemäß.
13Und wie er es uns gedeutet, so traf es ein. Mich hat man wieder auf meinen Posten gestellt, und ihn hat man gehenkt."
14Da sandte Pharao und ließ Joseph rufen. Eilends entließen sie ihn aus dem Kerker. Er ließ sich scheren und wechselte seine Kleider. Dann kam er zu Pharao.
15Und Pharao sprach nun zu Joseph: "Ich habe einen Traum gehabt, und niemand kann ihn deuten. Nun habe ich von dir gehört, man sage, du brauchtest einen Traum nur zu hören, und du könntest ihn deuten!"
16Da erwiderte Joseph dem Pharao also: "Ich nicht; Gott nur kann offenbaren, was Pharao frommt."
17Da erzählte Pharao dem Joseph: "In meinem Traume stand ich an des Niles Ufer.
18Da stiegen sieben Kühe aus dem Nil, fett an Fleisch und stattlich anzusehen, und weideten im Riedgras.
19Ihnen nach stiegen sieben andere Kühe, elend und häßlich an Gestalt und mager an Fleisch. In ganz Ägypten habe ich nie etwas so Häßliches gesehen wie sie.
20Da fraßen die mageren und häßlichen Kühe die ersten sieben fetten Kühe.
21Sie kamen so in ihren Magen; aber man hatte gar nicht gemerkt, daß sie in ihren Magen gekommen waren; denn ihr Aussehen blieb häßlich, wie zuvor. Da erwachte ich.
22Und wieder sah ich in meinem Traum: Da wuchsen sieben Ähren voll und schön an einem Halm.
23Ihnen nach sproßten sieben andere Ähren, taub, dürr und vom Ostwind versengt.
24Und diese dürren Ähren verschlangen die sieben schönen Ähren. Ich sagte es den Schriftgelehrten; aber keiner konnte mir Bescheid geben."
25Da sprach Joseph zu Pharao: "Pharaos Traum ist unzweideutig. Gott tut dem Pharao kund, was er zu tun gedenkt.
26Die sieben schönen Kühe sind sieben Jahre. Die sieben schönen Ähren sind auch sieben Jahre. Nur ein Traum ist es.
27Und diese sieben mageren und häßlichen Kühe, die nach ihnen kamen, sind sieben Jahre, und die sieben leeren, vom Ostwind versengten Ähren bedeuten sieben Hungerjahre.
28Das ist dasselbe, was ich Pharao schon sagte: 'Was Gott zu tun gedenkt, hat er Pharao schauen lassen.'
29Sieh, sieben Jahre kommen, da herrscht großer Überfluß im ganzen Land Ägypten.
30Nach ihnen kommen sieben Hungerjahre. Da weiß man nichts mehr von irgendwelchem Überfluß im Land Ägypten. Dann zehrt der Hunger im Land.
31Dann merkt man nichts mehr vom Überfluß im Land wegen dieser Hungersnot hernach; denn sie wird überschwer sein.
32Und daß der Traum des Pharao zweimal in verschiedener Form erschien, heißt: Die Sache ist fest bei Gott beschlossen, und Gott setzt eilends sie ins Werk.
33Nun ersehe sich Pharao einen klugen, weisen Mann und setze ihn über das Ägypterland!
34Möge Pharao unverzüglich über das Land Aufseher setzen und dann den fünften Teil aus dem Land Ägypten in den sieben Jahren des Überflusses als Abgabe erheben.
35Dann soll man jeglich Korn dieser kommenden guten Jahre aufspeichern und Getreide zu Pharaos Verfügung in den Städten zur Nahrung anhäufen und verwahren!
36Dann ist das Korn dem Land ein Rückhalt für die sieben Hungerjahre, die über das Ägypterland kommen, damit das Land durch die Hungersnot nicht zugrunde gehe."
37Diese Rede gefiel nun Pharao und all seinen Dienern.
38Und Pharao sprach zu seinen Dienern: "Könnten wir jemanden wie diesen finden, einen Mann, in dem Gottes Geist ist?"
39Und Pharao sprach zu Joseph: "Weil ein Gott dir all dies geoffenbart, ist keiner so klug und weise wie du.
40Du sollst meinem Hause vorstehen! Mein ganzes Volk soll deine Rede achten! Nur um den Thron will ich größer sein als du."
41Dann sprach Pharao zu Joseph: "Siehe! Ich setze dich über ganz Ägypterland."
42Dann zog Pharao seinen Siegelring von seiner Hand und streifte ihn an Josephs Hand, kleidete ihn mit Linnengewändern und legte ihm die goldene Kette um den Hals.
43Dann ließ er ihn auf seinem Wagen zweiten Ranges fahren und vor ihm ausrufen: Abrek! und daß man ihn einsetze als König über ganz Ägypterland.
44Und Pharao sprach zu Joseph: "Ich bin Pharao. Aber ohne dich hebe niemand Hand noch Fuß in ganz Ägypterland!"
45Und Pharao hieß Joseph Saphnat Paneach. Und er gab ihm zum Weibe Asenat, die Tochter Potipheras, des Priesters von On. So ward Joseph im Ägypterland bekannt.
46Joseph war dreißig Jahre alt, als er in des ägyptischen Königs Pharao Dienste trat. Nachdem Joseph von Pharao weggegangen war, durchzog er ganz Ägypterland.
47Das Land war nun in den sieben Jahren des Überflusses überaus fruchtbar.
48So speicherte er jegliches Korn der sieben Jahre im Ägypterland auf und legte Korn in die Städte. In jede Stadt legte er das Korn des Feldes, das sie umgab.
49So häufte Joseph Getreide wie Sand am Meere überaus viel auf, bis man das Messen lassen mußte; denn es war unmeßbar.
50Zwei Söhne aber waren Joseph geboren worden, bevor das Hungerjahr kam. Asenat, die Tochter Potipheras, des Priesters von On, hatte sie ihm geboren.
51Und Joseph nannte den Erstgeborenen Manasse; denn "Gott hat mich vergessen lassen all mein Unglück und mein ganzes Haus".
52Den zweiten nannte er Ephraim; denn "Gott hat mich zur Macht im Lande meines Elends kommen lassen".
53Zu Ende gingen nun die sieben Jahre des Überflusses im Ägypterland.
54Und die sieben Jahre des Hungers hoben an, wie Joseph gesagt hatte. Hunger war in allen Ländern; aber in ganz Ägypten gab es Brot.
55Als aber auch ganz Ägypterland hungerte, schrie das Volk zu Pharao um Brot; da sprach Pharao zu jedem Ägypter: "Geht zu Joseph! Was er euch sagen wird, tut!"
56Nun kam der Hunger über die ganze Erde. Da öffnete Joseph alle Speicher und verkaufte den Ägyptern Getreide. Aber auch in Ägypten ward der Hunger immer stärker.
57Alle Welt kam nun nach Ägypten, Getreide bei Joseph zu kaufen, denn stark war der Hunger auf der ganzen Erde geworden.

1Y ACONTECIÓ que pasados dos años tuvo Faraón un sueño: Parecíale que estaba junto al río;
2Y que del río subían siete vacas, hermosas á la vista, y muy gordas, y pacían en el prado:
3Y que otras siete vacas subían tras ellas del río, de fea vista, y enjutas de carne, y se pararon cerca de las vacas hermosas á la orilla del río:
4Y que las vacas de fea vista y enjutas de carne devoraban á las siete vacas hermosas y muy gordas. Y despertó Faraón.
5Durmióse de nuevo, y soñó la segunda vez: Que siete espigas llenas y hermosas subían de una sola caña:
6Y que otras siete espigas menudas y abatidas del Solano, salían después de ellas:
7Y las siete espigas menudas devoraban á las siete espigas gruesas y llenas. Y despertó Faraón, y he aquí que era sueño.
8Y acaeció que á la mañana estaba agitado su espíritu; y envió é hizo llamar á todos los magos de Egipto, y á todos sus sabios: y contóles Faraón sus sueños, mas no había quien á Faraón los declarase.
9Entonces el principal de los coperos habló á Faraón, diciendo: Acuérdome hoy de mis faltas:
10Faraón se enojó contra sus siervos, y á mí me echó á la prisión de la casa del capitán de los de la guardia, á mí y al principal de los panaderos:
11Y yo y él vimos un sueño una misma noche: cada uno soñó conforme á la declaración de su sueño.
12Y estaba allí con nosotros un mozo Hebreo, sirviente del capitán de los de la guardia; y se lo contamos, y él nos declaró nuestros sueños, y declaró á cada uno conforme á su sueño.
13Y aconteció que como él nos declaró, así fué: á mí me hizo volver á mi puesto, é hizo colgar al otro.
14Entonces Faraón envió y llamó á José; é hiciéronle salir corriendo de la cárcel, y le cortaron el pelo, y mudaron sus vestidos, y vino á Faraón.
15Y dijo Faraón á José: Yo he tenido un sueño, y no hay quien lo declare; mas he oído decir de ti, que oyes sueños para declararlos.
16Y respondió José á Faraón, diciendo: No está en mí; Dios será el que responda paz á Faraón.
17Entonces Faraón dijo á José: En mi sueño parecíame que estaba á la orilla del río:
18Y que del río subían siete vacas de gruesas carnes y hermosa apariencia, que pacían en el prado:
19Y que otras siete vacas subían después de ellas, flacas y de muy fea traza; tan extenuadas, que no he visto otras semejantes en toda la tierra de Egipto en fealdad:
20Y las vacas flacas y feas devoraban á las siete primeras vacas gruesas:
21Y entraban en sus entrañas, mas no se conocía que hubiesen entrado en ellas, porque su parecer era aún malo, como de primero. Y yo desperté.
22Vi también soñando, que siete espigas subían en una misma caña llenas y hermosas;
23Y que otras siete espigas menudas, marchitas, abatidas del Solano, subían después de ellas:
24Y las espigas menudas devoraban á las siete espigas hermosas: y helo dicho á los magos, mas no hay quien me lo declare.
25Entonces respondió José á Faraón: El sueño de Faraón es uno mismo: Dios ha mostrado á Faraón lo que va á hacer.
26Las siete vacas hermosas siete años son; y las espigas hermosas son siete años: el sueño es uno mismo.
27También las siete vacas flacas y feas que subían tras ellas, son siete años; y las siete espigas menudas y marchitas del Solano, siete años serán de hambre.
28Esto es lo que respondo á Faraón. Lo que Dios va á hacer, halo mostrado á Faraón.
29He aquí vienen siete años de grande hartura en toda la tierra de Egipto:
30Y levantarse han tras ellos siete años de hambre; y toda la hartura será olvidada en la tierra de Egipto; y el hambre consumirá la tierra;
31Y aquella abundancia no se echará de ver á causa del hambre siguiente, la cual será gravísima.
32Y el suceder el sueño á Faraón dos veces, significa que la cosa es firme de parte de Dios, y que Dios se apresura á hacerla.
33Por tanto, provéase ahora Faraón de un varón prudente y sabio, y póngalo sobre la tierra de Egipto.
34Haga esto Faraón, y ponga gobernadores sobre el país, y quinte la tierra de Egipto en los siete años de la hartura;
35Y junten toda la provisión de estos buenos años que vienen, y alleguen el trigo bajo la mano de Faraón para mantenimiento de las ciudades; y guárdenlo.
36Y esté aquella provisión en depósito para el país, para los siete años del hambre que serán en la tierra de Egipto; y el país no perecerá de hambre.
37Y el negocio pareció bien á Faraón, y á sus siervos.
38Y dijo Faraón á sus siervos: ¿Hemos de hallar otro hombre como éste, en quien haya espíritu de Dios?
39Y dijo Faraón á José: Pues que Dios te ha hecho saber todo esto, no hay entendido ni sabio como tú:
40Tú serás sobre mi casa, y por tu dicho se gobernará todo mi pueblo: solamente en el trono seré yo mayor que tú.
41Dijo más Faraón á José: He aquí yo te he puesto sobre toda la tierra de Egipto.
42Entonces Faraón quitó su anillo de su mano, y púsolo en la mano de José, é hízole vestir de ropas de lino finísimo, y puso un collar de oro en su cuello;
43E hízolo subir en su segundo carro, y pregonaron delante de él: Doblad la rodilla: y púsole sobre toda la tierra de Egipto.
44Y dijo Faraón á José: Yo Faraón; y sin ti ninguno alzará su mano ni su pie en toda la tierra de Egipto.
45Y llamó Faraón el nombre de José, Zaphnath-paaneah; y dióle por mujer á Asenath, hija de Potipherah, sacerdote de On. Y salió José por toda la tierra de Egipto.
46Y era José de edad de treinta años cuando fué presentado delante de Faraón, rey de Egipto: y salió José de delante de Faraón, y transitó por toda la tierra de Egipto.
47E hizo la tierra en aquellos siete años de hartura á montones.
48Y él juntó todo el mantenimiento de los siete años que fueron en la tierra de Egipto, y guardó mantenimiento en las ciudades, poniendo en cada ciudad el mantenimiento del campo de sus alrededores.
49Y acopió José trigo como arena de la mar, mucho en extremo, hasta no poderse contar, porque no tenía número.
50Y nacieron á José dos hijos antes que viniese el primer año del hambre, los cuales le parió Asenath, hija de Potipherah, sacerdote de On.
51Y llamó José el nombre del primogénito Manasés; porque Dios (dijo) me hizo olvidar todo mi trabajo, y toda la casa de mi padre.
52Y el nombre del segundo llamólo Ephraim; porque Dios (dijo) me hizo fértil en la tierra de mi aflicción.
53Y cumpliéronse los siete años de la hartura, que hubo en la tierra de Egipto.
54Y comenzaron á venir los siete años del hambre, como José había dicho: y hubo hambre en todos los países, mas en toda la tierra de Egipto había pan.
55Y cuando se sintió el hambre en toda la tierra de Egipto, el pueblo clamó á Faraón por pan. Y dijo Faraón á todos los Egipcios: Id á José, y haced lo que él os dijere.
56Y el hambre estaba por toda la extensión del país. Entonces abrió José todo granero donde había, y vendía á los Egipcios; porque había crecido el hambre en la tierra de Egipto.
57Y toda la tierra venía á Egipto para comprar de José, porque por toda la tierra había crecido el hambre.

1And it came to pass at the end of two full years, that Pharaoh dreamed: and, behold, he stood by the river.
2And, behold, there came up out of the river seven well favoured kine and fatfleshed; and they fed in a meadow.
3And, behold, seven other kine came up after them out of the river, ill favoured and leanfleshed; and stood by the other kine upon the brink of the river.
4And the ill favoured and leanfleshed kine did eat up the seven well favoured and fat kine. So Pharaoh awoke.
5And he slept and dreamed the second time: and, behold, seven ears of corn came up upon one stalk, rank and good.
6And, behold, seven thin ears and blasted with the east wind sprung up after them.
7And the seven thin ears devoured the seven rank and full ears. And Pharaoh awoke, and, behold, it was a dream.
8And it came to pass in the morning that his spirit was troubled; and he sent and called for all the magicians of Egypt, and all the wise men thereof: and Pharaoh told them his dream; but there was none that could interpret them unto Pharaoh.
9Then spake the chief butler unto Pharaoh, saying, I do remember my faults this day:
10Pharaoh was wroth with his servants, and put me in ward in the captain of the guard’s house, both me and the chief baker:
11And we dreamed a dream in one night, I and he; we dreamed each man according to the interpretation of his dream.
12And there was there with us a young man, an Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard; and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams; to each man according to his dream he did interpret.
13And it came to pass, as he interpreted to us, so it was; me he restored unto mine office, and him he hanged.
14Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon: and he shaved himself, and changed his raiment, and came in unto Pharaoh.
15And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it: and I have heard say of thee, that thou canst understand a dream to interpret it.
16And Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, It is not in me: God shall give Pharaoh an answer of peace.
17And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, In my dream, behold, I stood upon the bank of the river:
18And, behold, there came up out of the river seven kine, fatfleshed and well favoured; and they fed in a meadow:
19And, behold, seven other kine came up after them, poor and very ill favoured and leanfleshed, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for badness:
20And the lean and the ill favoured kine did eat up the first seven fat kine:
21And when they had eaten them up, it could not be known that they had eaten them; but they were still ill favoured, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22And I saw in my dream, and, behold, seven ears came up in one stalk, full and good:
23And, behold, seven ears, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them:
24And the thin ears devoured the seven good ears: and I told this unto the magicians; but there was none that could declare it to me.
25And Joseph said unto Pharaoh, The dream of Pharaoh is one: God hath shewed Pharaoh what he is about to do.
26The seven good kine are seven years; and the seven good ears are seven years: the dream is one.
27And the seven thin and ill favoured kine that came up after them are seven years; and the seven empty ears blasted with the east wind shall be seven years of famine.
28This is the thing which I have spoken unto Pharaoh: What God is about to do he sheweth unto Pharaoh.
29Behold, there come seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt:
30And there shall arise after them seven years of famine; and all the plenty shall be forgotten in the land of Egypt; and the famine shall consume the land;
31And the plenty shall not be known in the land by reason of that famine following; for it shall be very grievous.
32And for that the dream was doubled unto Pharaoh twice; it is because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33Now therefore let Pharaoh look out a man discreet and wise, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint officers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt in the seven plenteous years.
35And let them gather all the food of those good years that come, and lay up corn under the hand of Pharaoh, and let them keep food in the cities.
36And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine.
37And the thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the Spirit of God is?
39And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
40Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled: only in the throne will I be greater than thou.
41And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, See, I have set thee over all the land of Egypt.
42And Pharaoh took off his ring from his hand, and put it upon Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in vestures of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck;
43And he made him to ride in the second chariot which he had; and they cried before him, Bow the knee: and he made him ruler over all the land of Egypt.
44And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, I am Pharaoh, and without thee shall no man lift up his hand or foot in all the land of Egypt.
45And Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphnath-paaneah; and he gave him to wife Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On. And Joseph went out over all the land of Egypt.
46And Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. And Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47And in the seven plenteous years the earth brought forth by handfuls.
48And he gathered up all the food of the seven years, which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities: the food of the field, which was round about every city, laid he up in the same.
49And Joseph gathered corn as the sand of the sea, very much, until he left numbering; for it was without number.
50And unto Joseph were born two sons before the years of famine came, which Asenath the daughter of Poti-pherah priest of On bare unto him.
51And Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh: For God, said he, hath made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.
52And the name of the second called he Ephraim: For God hath caused me to be fruitful in the land of my affliction.
53And the seven years of plenteousness, that was in the land of Egypt, were ended.
54And the seven years of dearth began to come, according as Joseph had said: and the dearth was in all lands; but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55And when all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread: and Pharaoh said unto all the Egyptians, Go unto Joseph; what he saith to you, do.
56And the famine was over all the face of the earth: and Joseph opened all the storehouses, and sold unto the Egyptians; and the famine waxed sore in the land of Egypt.
57And all countries came into Egypt to Joseph for to buy corn; because that the famine was so sore in all lands.

1At the end of two full years, Pharaoh dreamed, and behold, he stood by the river.
2Behold, seven cattle came up out of the river. They were sleek and fat, and they fed in the marsh grass.
3Behold, seven other cattle came up after them out of the river, ugly and thin, and stood by the other cattle on the brink of the river.
4The ugly and thin cattle ate up the seven sleek and fat cattle. So Pharaoh awoke.
5He slept and dreamed a second time; and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, healthy and good.
6Behold, seven heads of grain, thin and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
7The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven healthy and full ears. Pharaoh awoke, and behold, it was a dream.
8In the morning, his spirit was troubled, and he sent and called for all of Egypt’s magicians and wise men. Pharaoh told them his dreams, but there was no one who could interpret them to Pharaoh.
9Then the chief cup bearer spoke to Pharaoh, saying, “I remember my faults today.
10Pharaoh was angry with his servants, and put me in custody in the house of the captain of the guard, with the chief baker.
11We dreamed a dream in one night, he and I. Each man dreamed according to the interpretation of his dream.
12There was with us there a young man, a Hebrew, servant to the captain of the guard, and we told him, and he interpreted to us our dreams. He interpreted to each man according to his dream.
13As he interpreted to us, so it was. He restored me to my office, and he hanged him.”
14Then Pharaoh sent and called Joseph, and they brought him hastily out of the dungeon. He shaved himself, changed his clothing, and came in to Pharaoh.
15Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I have dreamed a dream, and there is no one who can interpret it. I have heard it said of you, that when you hear a dream you can interpret it.”
16Joseph answered Pharaoh, saying, “It isn’t in me. God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace.”
17Pharaoh spoke to Joseph, “In my dream, behold, I stood on the brink of the river;
18and behold, seven fat and sleek cattle came up out of the river. They fed in the marsh grass;
19and behold, seven other cattle came up after them, poor and very ugly and thin, such as I never saw in all the land of Egypt for ugliness.
20The thin and ugly cattle ate up the first seven fat cattle;
21and when they had eaten them up, it couldn’t be known that they had eaten them, but they were still ugly, as at the beginning. So I awoke.
22I saw in my dream, and behold, seven heads of grain came up on one stalk, full and good;
23and behold, seven heads of grain, withered, thin, and blasted with the east wind, sprung up after them.
24The thin heads of grain swallowed up the seven good heads of grain. I told it to the magicians, but there was no one who could explain it to me.”
25Joseph said to Pharaoh, “The dream of Pharaoh is one. What God is about to do he has declared to Pharaoh.
26The seven good cattle are seven years; and the seven good heads of grain are seven years. The dream is one.
27The seven thin and ugly cattle that came up after them are seven years, and also the seven empty heads of grain blasted with the east wind; they will be seven years of famine.
28That is the thing which I have spoken to Pharaoh. God has shown Pharaoh what he is about to do.
29Behold, seven years of great plenty throughout all the land of Egypt are coming.
30Seven years of famine will arise after them, and all the plenty will be forgotten in the land of Egypt. The famine will consume the land,
31and the plenty will not be known in the land by reason of that famine which follows; for it will be very grievous.
32The dream was doubled to Pharaoh, because the thing is established by God, and God will shortly bring it to pass.
33“Now therefore let Pharaoh look for a discreet and wise man, and set him over the land of Egypt.
34Let Pharaoh do this, and let him appoint overseers over the land, and take up the fifth part of the land of Egypt’s produce in the seven plenteous years.
35Let them gather all the food of these good years that come, and store grain under the hand of Pharaoh for food in the cities, and let them keep it.
36The food will be to supply the land against the seven years of famine, which will be in the land of Egypt; so that the land will not perish through the famine.”
37The thing was good in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of all his servants.
38Pharaoh said to his servants, “Can we find such a one as this, a man in whom is the Spirit of God?”
39Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Because God has shown you all of this, there is no one so discreet and wise as you.
40You shall be over my house. All my people will be ruled according to your word. Only in the throne I will be greater than you.”
41Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Behold, I have set you over all the land of Egypt.”
42Pharaoh took off his signet ring from his hand, and put it on Joseph’s hand, and arrayed him in robes of fine linen, and put a gold chain about his neck.
43He made him ride in the second chariot which he had. They cried before him, “Bow the knee!” He set him over all the land of Egypt.
44Pharaoh said to Joseph, “I am Pharaoh. Without you, no man shall lift up his hand or his foot in all the land of Egypt.”
45Pharaoh called Joseph’s name Zaphenath-Paneah. He gave him Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On as a wife. Joseph went out over the land of Egypt.
46Joseph was thirty years old when he stood before Pharaoh king of Egypt. Joseph went out from the presence of Pharaoh, and went throughout all the land of Egypt.
47In the seven plenteous years the earth produced abundantly.
48He gathered up all the food of the seven years which were in the land of Egypt, and laid up the food in the cities. He stored food in each city from the fields around that city.
49Joseph laid up grain as the sand of the sea, very much, until he stopped counting, for it was without number.
50To Joseph were born two sons before the year of famine came, whom Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera priest of On, bore to him.
51Joseph called the name of the firstborn Manasseh, “For”, he said, “God has made me forget all my toil, and all my father’s house.”
52The name of the second, he called Ephraim: “For God has made me fruitful in the land of my affliction.”
53The seven years of plenty, that were in the land of Egypt, came to an end.
54The seven years of famine began to come, just as Joseph had said. There was famine in all lands, but in all the land of Egypt there was bread.
55When all the land of Egypt was famished, the people cried to Pharaoh for bread, and Pharaoh said to all the Egyptians, “Go to Joseph. What he says to you, do.”
56The famine was over all the surface of the earth. Joseph opened all the store houses, and sold to the Egyptians. The famine was severe in the land of Egypt.
57All countries came into Egypt, to Joseph, to buy grain, because the famine was severe in all the earth.
