La serpiente, que era el más astuto de todos los animales del campo creados por Dios el Señor, se le acercó a la mujer y le preguntó: ―¿Es verdad que Dios no les permite comer de ningún árbol que hay en el jardín?
EMPERO la serpiente era astuta, más que todos los animales del campo que Jehová Dios había hecho; la cual dijo á la mujer: ¿Conque Dios os ha dicho: No comáis de todo árbol del huerto?
Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?”
La mujer le contestó: ―Sí podemos comer los frutos de cualquier árbol,
Y la mujer respondió á la serpiente: Del fruto de los árboles del huerto comemos;
And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,
menos del que está en el centro del jardín. Dios nos dijo que si comemos o tocamos el fruto de ese árbol, moriremos.
Mas del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto dijo Dios: No comeréis de él, ni le tocaréis, porque no muráis.
But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.’”
―¡Mentira! —silbó la serpiente—. ¡No morirán!
Entonces la serpiente dijo á la mujer: No moriréis;
And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t really die,
Lo que pasa es que Dios sabe que, cuando ustedes coman del fruto de ese árbol, obtendrán todo el conocimiento, pues podrán conocer el bien y el mal. ¡Ese día ustedes serán como Dios!
Mas sabe Dios que el día que comiereis de él, serán abiertos vuestros ojos, y seréis como dioses sabiendo el bien y el mal.
For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
La mujer contempló el árbol y se convenció de que su fruto era bueno para comer. Además, lo vio muy hermoso, y pensó que era su oportunidad para conseguir la sabiduría. Así que agarró el fruto y comió. Luego le dio de comer a su marido, el cual estaba con ella.
Y vió la mujer que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable á los ojos, y árbol codiciable para alcanzar la sabiduría; y tomó de su fruto, y comió; y dió también á su marido, el cual comió así como ella.
And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate. Then she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.
Tan pronto lo comieron, se dieron cuenta de que estaban desnudos y sintieron vergüenza. Entonces cosieron hojas de higuera para cubrir su desnudez.
Y fueron abiertos los ojos de entrambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos: entonces cosieron hojas de higuera, y se hicieron delantales.

Aquella tarde, a la hora en que sopla la brisa, el hombre y la mujer oyeron que Dios andaba por el jardín. Entonces corrieron a esconderse entre los árboles, para que Dios el Señor no los viera.
Y oyeron la voz de Jehová Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al aire del día: y escondióse el hombre y su mujer de la presencia de Jehová Dios entre los árboles del huerto.
And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
They heard the LORD God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Pero Dios el Señor llamó al hombre y le preguntó: ―¿Dónde estás?
Y llamó Jehová Dios al hombre, y le dijo: ¿Dónde estás tú?
And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
El hombre le contestó: ―Oí que andabas por el jardín y me dio miedo, pues estoy desnudo. Así que me escondí.
Y él respondió: Oí tu voz en el huerto, y tuve miedo, porque estaba desnudo; y escondíme.
And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
―¿Quién te dijo que estás desnudo? —le preguntó Dios el Señor—. ¿Acaso comiste del fruto del árbol que te ordené que no comieras?
Y díjole: ¿Quién te enseñó que estabas desnudo? ¿Has comido del árbol de que yo te mandé no comieses?
And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
El hombre contestó: ―La mujer que me diste para que me acompañara me dio del fruto de ese árbol, y yo lo comí.
Y el hombre respondió: La mujer que me diste por compañera me dió del árbol, y yo comí.
And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
Entonces Dios el Señor le preguntó a la mujer: ―¿Qué es lo que has hecho? Ella respondió: ―La serpiente me engañó, y por eso comí de ese fruto.
Entonces Jehová Dios dijo á la mujer: ¿Qué es lo que has hecho? Y dijo la mujer: La serpiente me engañó, y comí.
And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
The LORD God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
Entonces Dios el Señor le dijo a la serpiente: ―Por haber hecho esto, te maldeciré. Serás la más desdichada de todos los animales, incluyendo los domésticos y los salvajes. A partir de este momento andarás arrastrándote sobre tu vientre y comerás polvo durante toda tu vida.
Y Jehová Dios dijo á la serpiente: Por cuanto esto hiciste, maldita serás entre todas las bestias y entre todos los animales del campo; sobre tu pecho andarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida:
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
Habrá siempre enemistad entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu descendencia y la de ella. El descendiente de la mujer te aplastará la cabeza, mientras tú solamente le morderás el talón.
Y enemistad pondré entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y la simiente suya; ésta te herirá en la cabeza, y tú le herirás en el calcañar.
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
Luego Dios le dijo a la mujer: ―Haré que sufras bastante durante tus embarazos y que al tener tus hijos sientas mucho dolor. Y a pesar de eso, seguirás deseando a tu marido, y él tendrá dominio sobre ti.
A la mujer dijo: Multiplicaré en gran manera tus dolores y tus preñeces; con dolor parirás los hijos; y á tu marido será tu deseo, y él se enseñoreará de ti.
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
Después Dios le dijo al hombre: ―La tierra estará bajo maldición por tu culpa, pues le hiciste caso a tu mujer y comiste del fruto que te prohibí. Por eso, de aquí en adelante tendrás que trabajar muy duro para conseguir tu alimento.
Y al hombre dijo: Por cuanto obedeciste á la voz de tu mujer, y comiste del árbol de que te mandé diciendo, No comerás de él; maldita será la tierra por amor de ti; con dolor comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida;
And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
La tierra te producirá espinas y cardos, y tendrás que comer plantas silvestres.
Espinos y cardos te producirá, y comerás hierba del campo;
Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
Para obtener tu alimento tendrás que trabajar mucho, hasta el día de tu muerte; ese día volverás a la tierra de la cual fuiste hecho, pues eres polvo y al polvo tendrás que volver.
En el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas á la tierra; porque de ella fuiste tomado: pues polvo eres, y al polvo serás tornado.
In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”
Luego el hombre le puso a su mujer el nombre de Eva, pues ella sería la madre de todos los seres humanos.
Y llamó el hombre el nombre de su mujer, Eva; por cuanto ella era madre de todos los vivientes.
And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.
Dios el Señor hizo túnicas de pieles de animales, y con ellas vistió al hombre y a su mujer.
Y Jehová Dios hizo al hombre y á su mujer túnicas de pieles, y vistiólos.
Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
The LORD God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
Y dijo: «Ahora el ser humano es como uno de nosotros, pues sabe lo que es bueno y lo que es malo, no conviene que tome del fruto del árbol de la vida y viva para siempre».
Y dijo Jehová Dios: He aquí el hombre es como uno de Nos sabiendo el bien y el mal: ahora, pues, porque no alargue su mano, y tome también del árbol de la vida, y coma, y viva para siempre:
And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
The LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever—”
Entonces Dios el Señor expulsó al hombre y a la mujer del jardín de Edén, y puso al hombre a que trabajara la tierra de la cual fue hecho.
Y sacólo Jehová del huerto de Edén, para que labrase la tierra de que fué tomado.
Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.

Después de haber expulsado al hombre y a la mujer, Dios puso al oriente del jardín de Edén a los querubines, y una espada encendida que giraba en todas las direcciones, para evitar que nadie pudiera llegar hasta el árbol de la vida.
Echó, pues, fuera al hombre, y puso al oriente del huerto de Edén querubines, y una espada encendida que se revolvía á todos lados, para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.
So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
