1Nun war die Schlange listiger als alle Tiere des Feldes, die Gott der HERR geschaffen hatte; die sagte zum Weibe: »Sollte Gott wirklich gesagt haben: ›Ihr dürft von allen Bäumen des Gartens nicht essen!‹«
2Da antwortete das Weib der Schlange: »Von den Früchten der Bäume im Garten dürfen wir essen;
3nur von den Früchten des Baumes, der mitten im Garten steht, hat Gott gesagt: ›Ihr dürft von ihnen nicht essen, ja sie nicht einmal anrühren, sonst müßt ihr sterben!‹«
4Da erwiderte die Schlange dem Weibe: »Ihr werdet sicherlich nicht sterben;
5sondern Gott weiß wohl, daß, sobald ihr davon eßt, euch die Augen aufgehen werden und ihr wie Gott selbst sein werdet, indem ihr erkennt, was gut und was böse ist.«
6Da nun das Weib sah, daß von dem Baume gut zu essen sei und daß er eine Lust für die Augen und ein begehrenswerter Baum sei, weil man durch ihn klug werden könne, so nahm sie eine von seinen Früchten und aß und gab auch ihrem Manne, der bei ihr war, und der aß auch.
7Da gingen ihnen beiden die Augen auf, und sie nahmen wahr, daß sie nackt waren; darum hefteten sie Blätter vom Feigenbaum zusammen und machten sich Schürze daraus.
8Als sie dann aber die Stimme Gottes des HERRN hörten, der in der Abendkühle im Garten sich erging, versteckten sie sich, der Mann (Adam) und sein Weib, vor Gott dem HERRN unter den Bäumen des Gartens.
9Aber Gott der HERR rief nach dem Mann mit den Worten: »Wo bist du?«
10Da antwortete er: »Als ich deine Stimme im Garten hörte, fürchtete ich mich, weil ich nackt bin; darum habe ich mich versteckt.«
11Da fragte Gott: »Wer hat dir gesagt, daß du nackt bist? Du hast doch nicht etwa von dem Baume gegessen, von dem zu essen ich dir verboten habe?«
12Da antwortete Adam: »Das Weib, das du mir beigesellt hast, die hat mir von dem Baume gegeben, da habe ich gegessen.«
13Da sagte Gott der HERR zu dem Weibe: »Warum hast du das getan?« Das Weib antwortete: »Die Schlange hat mich verführt; da habe ich gegessen.«
14Da sagte Gott der HERR zu der Schlange: »Weil du das getan hast, sollst du verflucht sein vor allen Tieren, zahmen und wilden! Auf dem Bauche sollst du kriechen und Staub fressen dein Leben lang!
15Und ich will Feindschaft setzen zwischen dir und dem Weibe und zwischen deinem Samen und ihrem Samen: er wird dir nach dem Kopfe treten, und du wirst ihm nach der Ferse schnappen.«
16Zum Weibe aber sagte er: »Viele Mühsal will ich dir bereiten, wenn du Mutter wirst: mit Schmerzen sollst du Kinder gebären und doch nach deinem Manne Verlangen tragen; er aber soll dein Herr sein!«
17Zu dem Manne aber sagte er: »Weil du der Aufforderung deines Weibes nachgekommen bist und von dem Baume gegessen hast, von dem zu essen ich dir ausdrücklich verboten hatte, so soll der Ackerboden verflucht sein um deinetwillen: mit Mühsal sollst du dich von ihm nähren dein Leben lang!
18Dornen und Gestrüpp soll er dir wachsen lassen, und du sollst dich vom Gewächs des Feldes nähren!
19Im Schweiße deines Angesichts sollst du dein Brot essen, bis du zum Erdboden zurückkehrst, von dem du genommen bist; denn Staub bist du, und zu Staub mußt du wieder werden!«
20Adam gab dann seinem Weibe den Namen Eva; denn sie ist die Stammutter aller Lebenden geworden.
21Darauf machte Gott der HERR dem Manne und seinem Weibe Röcke von Fellen und bekleidete sie (damit).
22Und Gott der HERR sagte: »Der Mensch ist jetzt ja geworden wie unsereiner, insofern er gut und böse zu unterscheiden weiß. Nun aber – daß er nur nicht seine Hand ausstreckt und auch (Früchte) vom Baume des Lebens nimmt und (sie) ißt und unsterblich wird!«
23So stieß ihn denn Gott der HERR aus dem Garten Eden hinaus, damit er den Erdboden bestelle, von dem er genommen war;
24und als er den Menschen hinausgetrieben hatte, ließ er östlich vom Garten Eden die Cherube sich lagern und die Flamme des kreisenden Schwertes, damit sie den Zugang zum Baume des Lebens bewachten.

1EMPERO la serpiente era astuta, más que todos los animales del campo que Jehová Dios había hecho; la cual dijo á la mujer: ¿Conque Dios os ha dicho: No comáis de todo árbol del huerto?
2Y la mujer respondió á la serpiente: Del fruto de los árboles del huerto comemos;
3Mas del fruto del árbol que está en medio del huerto dijo Dios: No comeréis de él, ni le tocaréis, porque no muráis.
4Entonces la serpiente dijo á la mujer: No moriréis;
5Mas sabe Dios que el día que comiereis de él, serán abiertos vuestros ojos, y seréis como dioses sabiendo el bien y el mal.
6Y vió la mujer que el árbol era bueno para comer, y que era agradable á los ojos, y árbol codiciable para alcanzar la sabiduría; y tomó de su fruto, y comió; y dió también á su marido, el cual comió así como ella.
7Y fueron abiertos los ojos de entrambos, y conocieron que estaban desnudos: entonces cosieron hojas de higuera, y se hicieron delantales.
8Y oyeron la voz de Jehová Dios que se paseaba en el huerto al aire del día: y escondióse el hombre y su mujer de la presencia de Jehová Dios entre los árboles del huerto.
9Y llamó Jehová Dios al hombre, y le dijo: ¿Dónde estás tú?
10Y él respondió: Oí tu voz en el huerto, y tuve miedo, porque estaba desnudo; y escondíme.
11Y díjole: ¿Quién te enseñó que estabas desnudo? ¿Has comido del árbol de que yo te mandé no comieses?
12Y el hombre respondió: La mujer que me diste por compañera me dió del árbol, y yo comí.
13Entonces Jehová Dios dijo á la mujer: ¿Qué es lo que has hecho? Y dijo la mujer: La serpiente me engañó, y comí.
14Y Jehová Dios dijo á la serpiente: Por cuanto esto hiciste, maldita serás entre todas las bestias y entre todos los animales del campo; sobre tu pecho andarás, y polvo comerás todos los días de tu vida:
15Y enemistad pondré entre ti y la mujer, y entre tu simiente y la simiente suya; ésta te herirá en la cabeza, y tú le herirás en el calcañar.
16A la mujer dijo: Multiplicaré en gran manera tus dolores y tus preñeces; con dolor parirás los hijos; y á tu marido será tu deseo, y él se enseñoreará de ti.
17Y al hombre dijo: Por cuanto obedeciste á la voz de tu mujer, y comiste del árbol de que te mandé diciendo, No comerás de él; maldita será la tierra por amor de ti; con dolor comerás de ella todos los días de tu vida;
18Espinos y cardos te producirá, y comerás hierba del campo;
19En el sudor de tu rostro comerás el pan hasta que vuelvas á la tierra; porque de ella fuiste tomado: pues polvo eres, y al polvo serás tornado.
20Y llamó el hombre el nombre de su mujer, Eva; por cuanto ella era madre de todos los vivientes.
21Y Jehová Dios hizo al hombre y á su mujer túnicas de pieles, y vistiólos.
22Y dijo Jehová Dios: He aquí el hombre es como uno de Nos sabiendo el bien y el mal: ahora, pues, porque no alargue su mano, y tome también del árbol de la vida, y coma, y viva para siempre:
23Y sacólo Jehová del huerto de Edén, para que labrase la tierra de que fué tomado.
24Echó, pues, fuera al hombre, y puso al oriente del huerto de Edén querubines, y una espada encendida que se revolvía á todos lados, para guardar el camino del árbol de la vida.

1Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, Yea, hath God said, Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden?
2And the woman said unto the serpent, We may eat of the fruit of the trees of the garden:
3But of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God hath said, Ye shall not eat of it, neither shall ye touch it, lest ye die.
4And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die:
5For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.
6And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.
7And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.
8And they heard the voice of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God amongst the trees of the garden.
9And the LORD God called unto Adam, and said unto him, Where art thou?
10And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
11And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?
12And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat.
13And the LORD God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? And the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat.
14And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:
15And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.
16Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
17And unto Adam he said, Because thou hast hearkened unto the voice of thy wife, and hast eaten of the tree, of which I commanded thee, saying, Thou shalt not eat of it: cursed is the ground for thy sake; in sorrow shalt thou eat of it all the days of thy life;
18Thorns also and thistles shall it bring forth to thee; and thou shalt eat the herb of the field;
19In the sweat of thy face shalt thou eat bread, till thou return unto the ground; for out of it wast thou taken: for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return.
20And Adam called his wife’s name Eve; because she was the mother of all living.
21Unto Adam also and to his wife did the LORD God make coats of skins, and clothed them.
22And the LORD God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever:
23Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
24So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
World English Bible
1Now the serpent was more subtle than any animal of the field which the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, “Has God really said, ‘You shall not eat of any tree of the garden’?”
2The woman said to the serpent, “We may eat fruit from the trees of the garden,
3but not the fruit of the tree which is in the middle of the garden. God has said, ‘You shall not eat of it. You shall not touch it, lest you die.’”
4The serpent said to the woman, “You won’t really die,
5for God knows that in the day you eat it, your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”
6When the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes, and that the tree was to be desired to make one wise, she took some of its fruit, and ate. Then she gave some to her husband with her, and he ate it, too.
7Their eyes were opened, and they both knew that they were naked. They sewed fig leaves together, and made coverings for themselves.
8They heard the LORD God’s voice walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
9The LORD God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?”
10The man said, “I heard your voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; so I hid myself.”
11God said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree that I commanded you not to eat from?”
12The man said, “The woman whom you gave to be with me, she gave me fruit from the tree, and I ate it.”
13The LORD God said to the woman, “What have you done?” The woman said, “The serpent deceived me, and I ate.”
14The LORD God said to the serpent, “Because you have done this, you are cursed above all livestock, and above every animal of the field. You shall go on your belly and you shall eat dust all the days of your life.
15I will put hostility between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring. He will bruise your head, and you will bruise his heel.”
16To the woman he said, “I will greatly multiply your pain in childbirth. You will bear children in pain. Your desire will be for your husband, and he will rule over you.”
17To Adam he said, “Because you have listened to your wife’s voice, and have eaten from the tree, about which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ the ground is cursed for your sake. You will eat from it with much labor all the days of your life.
18It will yield thorns and thistles to you; and you will eat the herb of the field.
19You will eat bread by the sweat of your face until you return to the ground, for you were taken out of it. For you are dust, and you shall return to dust.”
20The man called his wife Eve because she would be the mother of all the living.
21The LORD God made garments of animal skins for Adam and for his wife, and clothed them.
22The LORD God said, “Behold, the man has become like one of us, knowing good and evil. Now, lest he reach out his hand, and also take of the tree of life, and eat, and live forever—”
23Therefore the LORD God sent him out from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from which he was taken.
24So he drove out the man; and he placed cherubim at the east of the garden of Eden, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to guard the way to the tree of life.
