José encontrou favor diante dos olhos de seu senhor, a quem servia. Potifar o fez administrador de sua casa, e colocou sob seus cuidados tudo que possuía.
Así halló José gracia en sus ojos, y servíale; y él le hizo mayordomo de su casa, y entregó en su poder todo lo que tenía.
And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all that he had he put into his hand.

Desde que o colocou como administrador de sua casa e de tudo o que possuía, Yahweh abençoou o lar do egípcio por causa de José. A bênção de Yahweh estava em todas as coisas que Potifar tinha em sua casa e em seu campo.

Potifar pôs tudo sobre os cuidados de José. Ele não tinha que pensar sobre nada exceto sobre a comida que comia. José era formoso de porte e de aparência.
Y dejó todo lo que tenía en mano de José; ni con él sabía de nada más que del pan que comía. Y era José de hermoso semblante y bella presencia.
And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was a goodly person, and well favoured.

E aconteceu que, depois disso, a mulher de seu senhor desejou José. Ela disse: "Deita-te comigo".

Mas ele recusou e disse para ela: "Escuta: meu senhor não precisa se preocupar sobre o que eu faço na casa. Ele pôs tudo sob meus cuidados.
Y él no quiso, y dijo á la mujer de su señor: He aquí que mi señor no sabe conmigo lo que hay en casa, y ha puesto en mi mano todo lo que tiene:
But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;

Ninguém é superior a mim nesta casa. Ele não vedou nada a mim, a não ser a ti, porque tu és a mulher dele. Como poderia eu cometer este grande mal e pecar perante Deus?".
No hay otro mayor que yo en esta casa, y ninguna cosa me ha reservado sino á ti, por cuanto tú eres su mujer; ¿cómo, pues, haría yo este grande mal, y pecaría contra Dios?
There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?

Ela falou com José dia após dia, mas ele se recusava a dormir ou estar com ela.
Y fué que hablando ella á José cada día, y no escuchándola él para acostarse al lado de ella, para estar con ella,
And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
As she spoke to Joseph day by day, he didn’t listen to her, to lie by her, or to be with her.
Mas, certo dia, ele chegou à casa onde trabalhava e nenhum dos que ali trabalhavam estavam lá.
Aconteció que entró él un día en casa para hacer su oficio, y no había nadie de los de casa allí en casa:
And it came to pass about this time, that Joseph went into the house to do his business; and there was none of the men of the house there within.

Ela o pegou pelas roupas e disse: "Deita-te comigo". Ele, porém, deixando suas roupas nas mãos dela, escapou e fugiu para fora.
Y asiólo ella por su ropa, diciendo: Duerme conmigo. Entonces dejóla él su ropa en las manos, y huyó, y salióse fuera.

chamou um dos homens da casa e disse para ele: "Vede, Potifar trouxe um hebreu para nos insultar. Ele veio para deitar-se comigo e eu gritei.
Llamó á los de casa, y hablóles diciendo: Mirad, nos ha traído un Hebreo, para que hiciese burla de nosotros: vino él á mí para dormir conmigo, y yo dí grandes voces;
That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:

Ela deixou a roupa dele perto de si até que o seu senhor chegou em casa.

E deu para ele essa explicação: "O servo hebreu que nos trouxeste veio para me insultar.

Quando eu gritei, ele deixou suas roupas comigo e fugiu para fora".

Então, quando o seu senhor ouviu a explicação da mulher: "Foi isso o que seu servo fez comigo", Potifar ficou muito bravo.

And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.

O senhor de José o pegou e o colocou na prisão, um lugar onde ficavam confinados os prisioneiros do rei. Ele ficou na prisão.

O carcereiro confiou os prisioneiros a José para que cuidasse deles. Qualquer coisa que acontecesse, José estava encarregado disso.
Y el principal de la casa de la cárcel entregó en mano de José todos los presos que había en aquella prisión; todo lo que hacían allí, él lo hacía.
