1Dios le dijo a Jacob: «Regresa a Betel y quédate allí. Al llegar construirás un altar para adorar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú».
2Jacob entonces ordenó a su familia y a toda la gente que estaba con él que destruyeran los ídolos que habían traído consigo, que se purificaran ceremonialmente y que se pusieran ropa limpia.
3Además les dijo: «Nos vamos a Betel. Allí voy a construir un altar al Dios que respondió a mis oraciones en el día en que estaba angustiado, y me acompañó en todo el viaje».
4Entonces todos le entregaron sus ídolos y los aretes que llevaban en las orejas. Jacob agarró todo esto y lo enterró bajo la encina que estaba cerca de Siquén.
5Luego emprendieron la marcha. Pasaron por varias ciudades, pero nadie se atrevió a hacerles daño, pues tenían miedo de Dios.
6Finalmente llegaron a Luz (que también se llama Betel), en Canaán.
7Jacob erigió allí un altar y llamó a ese lugar El Betel (Dios de Betel), porque fue en Betel donde Dios se le apareció mientras huía de Esaú.
8Poco después de esto murió Débora, la anciana que había criado a Rebeca. La sepultaron bajo una encina en el valle que quedaba junto a Betel. Por esto, a ese lugar Jacob le puso el nombre de Elón Bacut (encina del llanto).
9Cuando Jacob llegó a Betel desde Padán Aram, Dios se le apareció y lo bendijo nuevamente.
10Le dijo Dios: «Hasta hoy te llamaste Jacob (usurpador). Pero a partir de este momento ya no te llamarás Jacob, sino Israel (el que prevalece con Dios)». Así que Dios le cambió el nombre.
11Después de esto Dios le dijo: «Yo soy el Dios Todopoderoso. Vas a tener muchos hijos, y tus descendientes serán muy numerosos. Haré de ti una gran nación, y muchos pueblos saldrán de ti. Además, entre descendientes habrá muchos reyes.
12A ti te entregaré la tierra que les di a Abraham y a Isaac. Y después de ti se la daré a tu descendencia».
13Luego, Dios se fue de este lugar donde había hablado con Jacob.
14Entonces Jacob levantó una piedra por monumento en el lugar en que Dios le había hablado. Sobre ella derramó vino y aceite para consagrarla.
15Jacob llamó a aquel lugar Betel, porque Dios le había hablado allí.
16Después, Jacob y todos los que estaban con él salieron de Betel y viajaron hacia Efrata. Cuando todavía estaban bastante lejos de Efrata, Raquel dio a luz, pero con mucha dificultad.
17Después de un parto muy difícil, la partera finalmente exclamó: ―¡No tengas miedo, pues has tenido otro hijo varón!
18Pero Raquel murió luego de dar a luz a su hijo. Sin embargo, cuando estaba agonizando alcanzó a decir que su hijo se llamaría Benoní, es decir, «hijo de mi tristeza». Pero Jacob lo llamó Benjamín, que quiere decir «Hijo de mi mano derecha».
19Muerta Raquel, fue sepultada junto al camino a Efrata (que también se llama Belén).
20Jacob levantó una piedra en la tumba como señal, y allí está hasta hoy.
21Entonces Israel viajó y acampó más allá de Migdal Edar (torre de Edar).
22Fue allí donde Rubén tuvo relaciones sexuales con Bilhá, la concubina de Jacob, quien se enteró de lo sucedido. Estos son los nombres de los doce hijos de Jacob:
23Los hijos de Lea: Rubén, que es el hijo mayor de Jacob, Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.
24Los hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.
25Los hijos de Bilhá, la esclava de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.
26Los hijos de Zilpá, la esclava de Lea: Gad y Aser. Todos estos nacieron en Padán Aram.
27Finalmente Jacob fue hasta Mamré, cerca de Quiriat Arbá, a visitar a su padre Isaac. Quiriat Arbá es la misma Hebrón. Allí habían vivido Abraham e Isaac.
28Isaac murió poco después a la avanzada edad de ciento ochenta años, y sus hijos Esaú y Jacob lo sepultaron.

1Y DIJO Dios á Jacob: Levántate, sube á Beth-el, y estáte allí; y haz allí un altar al Dios que te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.
2Entonces Jacob dijo á su familia y á todos los que con él estaban: Quitad los dioses ajenos que hay entre vosotros, y limpiaos, y mudad vuestros vestidos.
3Y levantémonos, y subamos á Beth-el; y haré allí altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia, y ha sido conmigo en el camino que he andado.
4Así dieron á Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que había en poder de ellos, y los zarzillos que estaban en sus orejas; y Jacob los escondió debajo de una encina, que estaba junto á Sichêm.
5Y partiéronse, y el terror de Dios fué sobre las ciudades que había en sus alrededores, y no siguieron tras los hijos de Jacob.
6Y llegó Jacob á Luz, que está en tierra de Canaán, (esta es Beth-el) él y todo el pueblo que con él estaba;
7Y edificó allí un altar, y llamó al lugar El-Beth-el, porque allí le había aparecido Dios, cuando huía de su hermano.
8Entonces murió Débora, ama de Rebeca, y fué sepultada á las raíces de Beth-el, debajo de una encina: y llamóse su nombre Allon-Bacuth.
9Y aparecióse otra vez Dios á Jacob, cuando se había vuelto de Padan-aram, y bendíjole.
10Y díjole Dios: Tu nombre es Jacob; no se llamará más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel será tu nombre: y llamó su nombre Israel.
11Y díjole Dios: Yo soy el Dios Omnipotente: crece y multiplícate; una nación y conjunto de naciones procederá de ti, y reyes saldrán de tus lomos:
12Y la tierra que yo he dado á Abraham y á Isaac, la daré á ti: y á tu simiente después de ti daré la tierra.
13Y fuése de él Dios, del lugar donde con él había hablado.
14Y Jacob erigió un título en el lugar donde había hablado con él, un título de piedra, y derramó sobre él libación, y echó sobre él aceite.
15Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar donde Dios había hablado con él, Beth-el.
16Y partieron de Beth-el, y había aún como media legua de tierra para llegar á Ephrata, cuando parió Rachêl, y hubo trabajo en su parto.
17Y aconteció, que como había trabajo en su parir, díjole la partera: No temas, que también tendrás este hijo.
18Y acaeció que al salírsele el alma, (pues murió) llamó su nombre Benoni; mas su padre lo llamó Benjamín.
19Así murió Rachêl, y fué sepultada en el camino de Ephrata, la cual es Beth-lehem.
20Y puso Jacob un título sobre su sepultura: este es el título de la sepultura de Rachêl hasta hoy.
21Y partió Israel, y tendió su tienda de la otra parte de Migdaleder.
22Y acaeció, morando Israel en aquella tierra, que fué Rubén y durmió con Bilha la concubina de su padre; lo cual llegó á entender Israel. Ahora bien, los hijos de Israel fueron doce:
23Los hijos de Lea: Rubén el primogénito de Jacob, y Simeón, y Leví, y Judá, é Issachâr, y Zabulón.
24Los hijos de Rachêl: José, y Benjamín.
25Y los hijos de Bilha, sierva de Rachêl: Dan, y Nephtalí.
26Y los hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad, y Aser. Estos fueron los hijos de Jacob, que le nacieron en Padan-aram.
27Y vino Jacob á Isaac su padre á Mamre, á la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abraham é Isaac.
28Y fueron los días de Isaac ciento ochenta años.
29Y exhaló Isaac el espíritu, y murió, y fué recogido á sus pueblos, viejo y harto de días; y sepultáronlo Esaú y Jacob sus hijos.

1And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Beth-el, and dwell there: and make there an altar unto God, that appeared unto thee when thou fleddest from the face of Esau thy brother.
2Then Jacob said unto his household, and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you, and be clean, and change your garments:
3And let us arise, and go up to Beth-el; and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me in the way which I went.
4And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand, and all their earrings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Beth-el, he and all the people that were with him.
7And he built there an altar, and called the place El-beth-el: because there God appeared unto him, when he fled from the face of his brother.
8But Deborah Rebekah’s nurse died, and she was buried beneath Beth-el under an oak: and the name of it was called Allon-bachuth.
9And God appeared unto Jacob again, when he came out of Padan-aram, and blessed him.
10And God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob: thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name: and he called his name Israel.
11And God said unto him, I am God Almighty: be fruitful and multiply; a nation and a company of nations shall be of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;
12And the land which I gave Abraham and Isaac, to thee I will give it, and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.
13And God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.
14And Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone: and he poured a drink offering thereon, and he poured oil thereon.
15And Jacob called the name of the place where God spake with him, Beth-el.
16And they journeyed from Beth-el; and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath: and Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.
17And it came to pass, when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.
18And it came to pass, as her soul was in departing, (for she died) that she called his name Ben-oni: but his father called him Benjamin.
19And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem.
20And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.
21And Israel journeyed, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.
22And it came to pass, when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah his father’s concubine: and Israel heard it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:
23The sons of Leah; Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, and Simeon, and Levi, and Judah, and Issachar, and Zebulun:
24The sons of Rachel; Joseph, and Benjamin:
25And the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid; Dan, and Naphtali:
26And the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid; Gad, and Asher: these are the sons of Jacob, which were born to him in Padan-aram.
27And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.
28And the days of Isaac were an hundred and fourscore years.
29And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

1God said to Jacob, “Arise, go up to Bethel, and live there. Make there an altar to God, who appeared to you when you fled from the face of Esau your brother.”
2Then Jacob said to his household, and to all who were with him, “Put away the foreign gods that are among you, purify yourselves, and change your garments.
3Let’s arise, and go up to Bethel. I will make there an altar to God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and was with me on the way which I went.”
4They gave to Jacob all the foreign gods which were in their hands, and the rings which were in their ears; and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.
5They traveled, and a terror of God was on the cities that were around them, and they didn’t pursue the sons of Jacob.
6So Jacob came to Luz (that is, Bethel), which is in the land of Canaan, he and all the people who were with him.

18As her soul was departing (for she died), she named him Benoni, but his father named him Benjamin.
19Rachel died, and was buried on the way to Ephrath (also called Bethlehem).
20Jacob set up a pillar on her grave. The same is the Pillar of Rachel’s grave to this day.
21Israel traveled, and spread his tent beyond the tower of Eder.
22While Israel lived in that land, Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve.
23The sons of Leah: Reuben (Jacob’s firstborn), Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.
24The sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.
25The sons of Bilhah (Rachel’s servant): Dan and Naphtali.
26The sons of Zilpah (Leah’s servant): Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Paddan Aram.
27Jacob came to Isaac his father, to Mamre, to Kiriath Arba (which is Hebron), where Abraham and Isaac lived as foreigners.
28The days of Isaac were one hundred eighty years.
29Isaac gave up the spirit and died, and was gathered to his people, old and full of days. Esau and Jacob, his sons, buried him.
