1POI Giacobbe alzò gli occi, e riguardò; ed ecco Esaù veniva, menando seco quattrocent'uomini. Ed egli spartì i fanciulli in tre schiere, sotto Lea, sotto Rachele, e sotto le due serve.
2E mise le serve e i lor figliuoli davanti; e Lea e i suoi figliuoli appresso; e Rachele e Giuseppe gli ultimi.
3Ed egli passò davanti a loro, e s'inchinò sette volte a terra, finchè fu presso al suo fratello.
4Ed Esaù gli corse incontro, e l'abbracciò, e gli si gittò al collo, e lo baciò; ed amendue piansero.
5Ed Esaù alzò gli occhi, e vide quelle donne e que' fanciulli, e disse: Che ti son costoro? E Giacobbe disse: Sono i fanciulli che Iddio ha donati al tuo servitore.
6E le serve si accostarono, coi loro figliuoli, e s'inchinarono.
7Poi Lea si accostò, co' suoi figliuoli, e s'inchinarono. Poi si accostò Giuseppe e Rachele, e si inchinarono.
8Ed Esaù disse a Giacobbe: Che vuoi far di tutta quell'oste che io ho scontrata? Ed egli disse: Io l'ho mandata per trovar grazia appo il mio signore.
9Ed Esaù disse: Io ne ho assai, fratel mio; tienti per te ciò ch' è tuo.
10Ma Giacobbe disse: Deh! no; se ora io ho trovato grazia appo te, prendi dalla mia mano il mio presente; conciossiachè per ciò io abbia veduta la tua faccia, il che mi è stato come se avessi veduta la faccia di Dio; e tu mi hai gradito.
11Deh! prendi il mio presente che ti è stato condotto; perciocchè Iddio mi è stato liberal donatore, ed io ho di tutto. E gli fece forza, sì ch'egli lo prese.
12Poi Esaù disse: Partiamoci, ed andiamocene; ed io ti accompagnerò.
13Ma Giacobbe gli disse: Ben riconosce il mio signore che questi fanciulli son teneri; ed io ho le mie pecore e le mie vacche pregne; e se sono spinte innanzi pure un giorno, tutta la greggia morrà.
14Deh! passi il mio signore davanti al suo servitore, ed io mi condurrò pian piano, al passo di questo bestiame ch'è davanti a me, e di questi fanciulli, finchè io arrivi al mio signore in Seir.
15Ed Esaù disse: Deh! lascia che io faccia restar teco della gente ch'è meco. Ma Giacobbe disse: Perchè questo? lascia che io ottenga questa grazia dal mio signore.
16Esaù adunque in quel dì se ne ritornò verso Seir, per lo suo cammino.
17E Giacobbe partì, e venne in Succot, e si edificò una casa, e fece delle capanne per lo suo bestiame; perciò pose nome a quel luogo Succot.
18Poi Giacobbe arrivò sano e salvo nella città di Sichem, nel paese di Canaan, tornando di Paddan-aram; e tese i suoi padiglioni davanti alla città.
19E comperò da' figliuoli d'Hemor, padre di Sichem, per cento pezze di moneta, la parte del campo, ove avea tesi i suoi padiglioni.
20E rizzò un altare, e lo nominò Iddio, l'Iddio d'Israele.

1Y ALZANDO Jacob sus ojos miró, y he aquí venía Esaú, y los cuatrocientos hombres con él: entonces repartió él los niños entre Lea y Rachêl y las dos siervas.
2Y puso las siervas y sus niños delante; luego á Lea y á sus niños; y á Rachêl y á José los postreros.
3Y él pasó delante de ellos, é inclinóse á tierra siete veces, hasta que llegó á su hermano.
4Y Esaú corrió á su encuentro, y abrazóle, y echóse sobre su cuello, y le besó; y lloraron.
5Y alzó sus ojos, y vió las mujeres y los niños, y dijo: ¿Qué te tocan éstos? Y él respondió: Son los niños que Dios ha dado á tu siervo.
6Y se llegaron las siervas, ellas y sus niños, é inclináronse.
7Y llegóse Lea con sus niños, é inclináronse: y después llegó José y Rachêl, y también se inclinaron.
8Y él dijo: ¿Qué te propones con todas estas cuadrillas que he encontrado? Y él respondió: El hallar gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
9Y dijo Esaú: Harto tengo yo, hermano mío: sea para ti lo que es tuyo.
10Y dijo Jacob: No, yo te ruego, si he hallado ahora gracia en tus ojos, toma mi presente de mi mano, pues que así he visto tu rostro, como si hubiera visto el rostro de Dios; y hazme placer.
11Toma, te ruego, mi dádiva que te es traída; porque Dios me ha hecho merced, y todo lo que hay aquí es mío. Y porfió con él, y tomóla.
12Y dijo: Anda, y vamos; y yo iré delante de ti.
13Y él le dijo: Mi señor sabe que los niños son tiernos, y que tengo ovejas y vacas paridas; y si las fatigan, en un día morirán todas las ovejas.
14Pase ahora mi señor delante de su siervo, y yo me iré poco á poco al paso de la hacienda que va delante de mí, y al paso de los niños, hasta que llegue á mi señor á Seir.
15Y Esaú dijo: Dejaré ahora contigo de la gente que viene conmigo. Y él dijo: ¿Para qué esto? halle yo gracia en los ojos de mi señor.
16Así se volvió Esaú aquel día por su camino á Seir.
17Y Jacob se partió á Succoth, y edificó allí casa para sí, é hizo cabañas para su ganado: por tanto llamó el nombre de aquel lugar Succoth.
18Y vino Jacob sano á la ciudad de Sichêm, que está en la tierra de Canaán, cuando venía de Padan-aram; y acampó delante de la ciudad.
19Y compró una parte del campo, donde tendió su tienda, de mano de los hijos de Hamor, padre de Sichêm, por cien piezas de moneda.
20Y erigió allí un altar, y llamóle: El Dios de Israel.

1And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
2And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
3And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
5And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who are those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
6Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
7And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8And he said, What meanest thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, These are to find grace in the sight of my lord.
9And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.
10And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
11Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took it.
12And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
13And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children are tender, and the flocks and herds with young are with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
14Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
15And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee some of the folk that are with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
16So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
17And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padan-aram; and pitched his tent before the city.
19And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.
20And he erected there an altar, and called it El-elohe-Israel.

1Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau was coming, and with him four hundred men. He divided the children between Leah, Rachel, and the two servants.
2He put the servants and their children in front, Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph at the rear.
3He himself passed over in front of them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
4Esau ran to meet him, embraced him, fell on his neck, kissed him, and they wept.
5He lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, “Who are these with you?” He said, “The children whom God has graciously given your servant.”
6Then the servants came near with their children, and they bowed themselves.
7Leah also and her children came near, and bowed themselves. After them, Joseph came near with Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
8Esau said, “What do you mean by all this company which I met?” Jacob said, “To find favor in the sight of my lord.”
9Esau said, “I have enough, my brother; let that which you have be yours.”
10Jacob said, “Please, no, if I have now found favor in your sight, then receive my present at my hand, because I have seen your face, as one sees the face of God, and you were pleased with me.
11Please take the gift that I brought to you, because God has dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough.” He urged him, and he took it.
12Esau said, “Let’s take our journey, and let’s go, and I will go before you.”
13Jacob said to him, “My lord knows that the children are tender, and that the flocks and herds with me have their young, and if they overdrive them one day, all the flocks will die.
14Please let my lord pass over before his servant, and I will lead on gently, according to the pace of the livestock that are before me and according to the pace of the children, until I come to my lord to Seir.”
15Esau said, “Let me now leave with you some of the people who are with me.” He said, “Why? Let me find favor in the sight of my lord.”
16So Esau returned that day on his way to Seir.
17Jacob traveled to Succoth, built himself a house, and made shelters for his livestock. Therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
18Jacob came in peace to the city of Shechem, which is in the land of Canaan, when he came from Paddan Aram; and encamped before the city.
19He bought the parcel of ground where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for one hundred pieces of money.
20He erected an altar there, and called it El Elohe Israel.
