And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.

And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.

Los mensajeros regresaron a Jacob diciendo: "Fuimos donde tu hermano Esaú. Él viene a encontrarse contigo y cuatrocientos hombres están con él."
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”
Entonces Jacob se atemorizó mucho y se perturbó. Así que dividió las personas que estaban con él en dos campamentos y también los rebaños, las manadas y los camellos.

Jacob dijo: "Dios de mi padre Abraham y Dios de mi Ppdre Isaac, EL SEÑOR, quien me dijo: 'Regresa a tu país y a tus parientes y Yo te prosperaré.'

And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

Yo no soy merecedor de todos Tus actos de misericordia ni de toda la fidelidad que le has mostrado a Tu siervo. Porque solo con mi cayado crucé sobre este Jordán y ahora he llegado a tener dos campamentos.
Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

Jacob se quedó allí esa noche. Él tomó algo de lo que tenía con él como un regalo para Esaú, su hermano:

And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?
He commanded the foremost, saying, “When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you?’
Entonces le dirás: 'Ellos son de tu siervo Jacob. Ellos son un regalo enviado a mi amo Esaú. Mira, él viene también detrás de nosotros.'"

Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.

Jacob también le dio instrucciones al segundo grupo, al tercero y a todos los hombres que seguían las manadas. Él dijo: "Ustedes le dirán lo mismo a Esaú cuando se encuentren con él.

And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”

De esta manera él los envió a través del arroyo junto con todas sus posesiones.

Cuando el hombre vio que no podía vencerlo, golpeó la cadera de Jacob. La cadera de Jacob fue dislocada mientras él luchaba con él.

And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
El hombre dijo: "Déjame ir, porque ya está rompiendo el amanecer." Jacob dijo: ''Yo no te dejaré ir a menos que me bendigas."

And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
El hombre le dijo: "¿Cuál es tu nombre?" Jacob contestó: "Jacob."
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
El hombre dijo: ''Tu nombre ya no será Jacob, sino Israel. Porque tú has luchado con Dios y con los hombres y has prevalecido."
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Jacob le preguntó: "Dime tu nombre por favor." Él dijo: ''¿Porqué preguntas mi nombre?" Luego lo bendijo allí.

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
Jacob llamó ese lugar Peniel, porque dijo: "He visto a Dios cara a cara y mi vida es liberada."
Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
El sol salió sobre Jacob mientras él pasaba Peniel. Él cojeaba por causa de su cadera.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
Es por eso que hasta el día de hoy, el pueblo de Israel no come los ligamentos de la cadera que están en la coyuntura de la cadera, porque el hombre hirió esos ligamentos cuando le dislocó la cadera a Jacob.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
