And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:

und trug ihnen Folgendes auf: So sollt ihr sagen zu meinem Gebieter Esau: Dein Sklave Jakob läßt dir sagen: bei Laban habe ich geweilt und verzog dort bis jetzt.
Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”
Ich kam aber in den Besitz von Rindern, Eseln und Schafen, Sklaven und Sklavinnen, und sende nun meinem Gebieter Botschaft, damit du mir wohlgeneigt werdest.
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

Es kehrten aber die Boten zu Jakob zurück und meldeten: Wir trafen deinen Bruder Esau, als er schon unterwegs war, dir entgegenzuziehen in Begleitung von 400 Mann.
Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;

Da geriet Jakob in große Furcht, und es wurde ihm bange. Sodann teilte er die Leute, die er bei sich hatte, sowie die Schafe, die Rinder und die Kamele, in zwei Heerlager.
Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
Denn er dachte: Wenn Esau das eine Lager überfällt und niedermetzelt, so kann doch das andere Lager entrinnen!
Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien;
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

Und Jakob sprach: Du Gott meines Ahnherrn Abraham und meines Vaters Isaak, Jahwe, der du zu mir sprachst: Kehre heim in dein Vaterland und zu deiner Verwandtschaft, und ich will sorgen, daß es dir wohlgeht! -
Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

ich bin nicht wert aller der Wohlthaten und aller der Treue, die du deinem Diener bewiesen hast. Denn nur mit meinem Stab überschritt ich den Jordan da, und jetzt gebiete ich über zwei Heerlager.
Líbrame ahora de la mano de mi hermano, de la mano de Esaú, porque le temo; no venga quizá, y me hiera la madre con los hijos.

Y tú has dicho: Yo te haré bien, y pondré tu simiente como la arena del mar, que no se puede contar por la multitud.
And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
You said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which can’t be counted because there are so many.’”
Du aber hast ja verheißen: ich will sorgen, daß es dir wohlgehe, und will deine Nachkommen so zahlreich werden lassen, wie die Sandkörner am Meere, die nicht zu zählen sind vor Menge!
Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:

Und er blieb dort über Nacht. Hierauf schied er einen Teil seines Besitzes aus zu einem Geschenk für seinen Bruder Esau:

diese übergab er seinen Sklaven, jede Herde besonders, und gebot seinen Sklaven: Zieht voraus und laßt jedesmal einen Zwischenraum zwischen den Herden!
Y mandó al primero, diciendo: Si Esaú mi hermano te encontrare, y te preguntare, diciendo: ¿De quién eres? ¿y adónde vas? ¿y para quién es esto que llevas delante de ti?
And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?
He commanded the foremost, saying, “When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you?’
Sodann wies er den vordersten an: Wenn mein Bruder Esau auf dich stößt und dich fragt: Wem gehörst du an und wohin willst du und wem gehören diese da vor dir?
Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
Then you shall say, ‘They are your servant, Jacob’s. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.’”
so sprich: Sie sind ein Geschenk deines Sklaven Jakob, das für meinen Gebieter Esau bestimmt ist; er selbst aber folgt uns auf dem Fuße nach.

Y diréis también: He aquí tu siervo Jacob viene tras nosotros. Porque dijo: Apaciguaré su ira con el presente que va delante de mí, y después veré su rostro: quizá le seré acepto.
And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
und sollt sprechen: Dein Sklave Jakob selbst folgt uns auf dem Fuße nach. Er dachte nämlich: Ich will ihn besänftigen mit dem Geschenk, das mir vorausgeht; erst dann will ich ihm unter die Augen treten, vielleicht wird er mich gnädig aufnehmen.
Y pasó el presente delante de él; y él durmió aquella noche en el campamento.
So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
Und als er sah, daß er ihn nicht bezwingen könne, schlug er ihn auf die Hüftpfanne, so daß die Hüftpfanne Jakobs verrenkt ward, während er mit ihm rang.
Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
Da sprach jener: Laß mich los, denn die Morgenröte bricht an! Er antwortete: Ich lasse dich nicht los, außer, du segnest mich!
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
Da fragte er ihn: Wie heißest du? Er antwortete: Jakob!
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Da sprach er: Du sollst künftig nicht mehr Jakob heißen, sondern Israel; denn du hast mit Gott und mit Menschen gekämpft und bist Sieger geblieben.
Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
Da bat Jakob: Thue mir doch deinen Namen kund! Er antwortete: Warum fragst du doch nach meinem Namen? Sodann segnete er ihn daselbst.
Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

Jakob aber nannte jene Stätte Pniel; denn, sprach er, ich habe Gott von Angesicht zu Angesicht gesehen und kam doch mit dem Leben davon.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
Und als er an Pniel vorüber war, ging die Sonne auf; er hinkte aber wegen seiner Hüfte.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
Darum essen die Israeliten bis auf den heutigen Tag die Spannader nicht, die über die Hüftpfanne läuft, weil er Jakob auf die Hüftpfanne, die Spannader, geschlagen hat.
