Il leur donna cet ordre, en disant : « Voici ce que vous direz à mon seigneur, Ésaü : 'Ainsi parle ton serviteur, Jacob. J'ai séjourné comme étranger chez Laban, et j'y suis resté jusqu'à présent.
Y mandóles diciendo: Así diréis á mi señor Esaú: Así dice tu siervo Jacob: Con Labán he morado, y detenídome hasta ahora;
And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.
J'ai des bœufs, des ânes, des troupeaux, des serviteurs et des servantes. J'ai envoyé l'annoncer à mon seigneur, afin de trouver grâce à tes yeux.' »
Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.
I have cattle, donkeys, flocks, male servants, and female servants. I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find favor in your sight.’”
Les messagers revinrent auprès de Jacob, en disant : « Nous sommes allés vers ton frère Ésaü. Il marche à ta rencontre, et quatre cents hommes sont avec lui. »
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.

Alors Jacob fut saisi d'une grande crainte et d'angoisse. Il répartit en deux camps les gens qui étaient avec lui, ainsi que les troupeaux de petit et de gros bétail, et les chameaux.
Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;

Il se dit : « Si Ésaü attaque le premier camp et le frappe, le camp qui restera pourra s'échapper. »
Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
Jacob dit : « Dieu de mon père Abraham, et Dieu de mon père Isaac, SEIGNEUR, toi qui m'as dit : 'Retourne dans ton pays et vers ta parenté, et je te ferai du bien',
Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien;
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

je suis indigne de la moindre de toutes les bontés et de toute la fidélité que tu as témoignées à ton serviteur ; car je n'avais que mon bâton quand j'ai traversé ce Jourdain, et maintenant je suis devenu deux camps.
Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
You said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which can’t be counted because there are so many.’”
Il passa la nuit à cet endroit, et il prit de ce qu'il avait sous la main pour faire un présent à Ésaü, son frère :
Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:
And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;

And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?

Alors tu répondras : 'À ton serviteur Jacob. C'est un présent envoyé à mon seigneur Ésaü. Voici, il vient lui-même derrière nous.' »
Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
Then you shall say, ‘They are your servant, Jacob’s. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.’”
Il donna le même ordre au deuxième, au troisième, et à tous ceux qui suivaient les troupeaux, en disant : « C'est ainsi que vous parlerez à Ésaü quand vous le trouverez.

And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
Le présent passa donc devant lui, et lui-même passa cette nuit-là dans le camp.

Voyant qu'il ne pouvait le vaincre, l'homme toucha l'emboîture de sa hanche, et l'emboîture de la hanche de Jacob se démit pendant qu'il luttait avec lui.
Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
L'homme dit : « Laisse-moi partir, car l'aurore se lève. » Jacob répondit : « Je ne te laisserai pas partir avant que tu ne m'aies béni. »
Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
Il lui demanda : « Quel est ton nom ? » Il répondit : « Jacob ».
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
Il dit : « Ton nom ne sera plus Jacob, mais Israël ; car tu as lutté avec Dieu et avec des hommes, et tu as été vainqueur. »
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
Jacob l'interrogea, en disant : « Je te prie, fais-moi connaître ton nom. » Il répondit : « Pourquoi demandes-tu mon nom ? » Et il le bénit là.
Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

Jacob donna à ce lieu le nom de Péniel ; car, dit-il, « j'ai vu Dieu face à face, et ma vie a été sauvée. »

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.

Le soleil se levait lorsqu'il passa Péniel, et il boitait de la hanche.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.

C'est pourquoi, jusqu'à ce jour, les enfants d'Israël ne mangent pas le tendon de la hanche, qui est sur l'emboîture de la hanche, parce qu'il toucha l'emboîture de la hanche de Jacob au tendon de la hanche.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
