Jacó enviou adiante de si mensageiros a Esaú seu irmão, à terra de Seir, na região de Edom.
Y envió Jacob mensajeros delante de sí á Esaú su hermano, á la tierra de Seir, campo de Edom.
And Jacob sent messengers before him to Esau his brother unto the land of Seir, the country of Edom.

Deu-lhes instruções dizendo: "Isto é o que dirás ao meu senhor Esaú: Eis o que fala o teu servo Jacó: 'Eu morei com Labão, e estive com ele até agora.

And he commanded them, saying, Thus shall ye speak unto my lord Esau; Thy servant Jacob saith thus, I have sojourned with Laban, and stayed there until now:
He commanded them, saying, “This is what you shall tell my lord, Esau: ‘This is what your servant, Jacob, says. I have lived as a foreigner with Laban, and stayed until now.
Tenho bois, jumentos e rebanhos, escravos e escravas. Enviei esta mensagem a meu senhor, para que eu possa alcançar o teu favor".
Y tengo vacas, y asnos, y ovejas, y siervos y siervas; y envío á decirlo á mi señor, por hallar gracia en tus ojos.
And I have oxen, and asses, flocks, and menservants, and womenservants: and I have sent to tell my lord, that I may find grace in thy sight.

Os mensageiros retornaram e disseram a Jacó: "Nós fomos ao teu irmão Esaú. Ele está a caminho para encontrar-te; quatrocentos homens estão com ele".
Y los mensajeros volvieron á Jacob, diciendo: Vinimos á tu hermano Esaú, y él también viene á recibirte, y cuatrocientos hombres con él.
And the messengers returned to Jacob, saying, We came to thy brother Esau, and also he cometh to meet thee, and four hundred men with him.
The messengers returned to Jacob, saying, “We came to your brother Esau. He is coming to meet you, and four hundred men are with him.”
Jacó temeu e se angustiou; dividiu em dois grupos o povo que estava com ele; e também os rebanhos, as manadas e os camelos.
Entonces Jacob tuvo gran temor, y angustióse; y partió el pueblo que tenía consigo, y las ovejas y las vacas y los camellos, en dos cuadrillas;
Then Jacob was greatly afraid and distressed: and he divided the people that was with him, and the flocks, and herds, and the camels, into two bands;

Ele disse: "Se Esaú atacar um grupo e o destroçar, então, o outro grupo escapará".
Y dijo: Si viniere Esaú á la una cuadrilla y la hiriere, la otra cuadrilla escapará.
And said, If Esau come to the one company, and smite it, then the other company which is left shall escape.
He said, “If Esau comes to the one company, and strikes it, then the company which is left will escape.”
Jacó disse: "Deus de meu pai Abraão, e Deus de meu pai Isaque, Yahweh, que me disse: 'Retorna à tua terra natal e à tua parentela, e Eu te prosperarei',
Y dijo Jacob: Dios de mi padre Abraham, y Dios de mi padre Isaac, Jehová, que me dijiste: Vuélvete á tu tierra y á tu parentela, y yo te haré bien;
And Jacob said, O God of my father Abraham, and God of my father Isaac, the LORD which saidst unto me, Return unto thy country, and to thy kindred, and I will deal well with thee:

sou indigno de toda a Tua fidelidade e de toda a Tua misericórdia para com o Teu servo. Eu atravessei o Jordão apenas com o meu cajado, e agora volto com dois grupos.
Menor soy que todas las misericordias, y que toda la verdad que has usado para con tu siervo; que con mi bordón pasé este Jordán, y ahora estoy sobre dos cuadrillas.
I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and of all the truth, which thou hast shewed unto thy servant; for with my staff I passed over this Jordan; and now I am become two bands.

Por favor, livra-me da mão do meu irmão Esaú, pois eu temo que ele mate a mim e as mães com os filhos.

Deliver me, I pray thee, from the hand of my brother, from the hand of Esau: for I fear him, lest he will come and smite me, and the mother with the children.

Pois Tu disseste: 'Eu certamente te farei prosperar. Farei que a tua descendência seja numerosa como a areia do mar, a qual não se pode contar'".
Y tú has dicho: Yo te haré bien, y pondré tu simiente como la arena del mar, que no se puede contar por la multitud.
And thou saidst, I will surely do thee good, and make thy seed as the sand of the sea, which cannot be numbered for multitude.
You said, ‘I will surely do you good, and make your offspring as the sand of the sea, which can’t be counted because there are so many.’”
Jacó permaneceu alí aquela noite. E do que tinha ele separou algo para presentear Esaú, seu irmão:
Y durmió allí aquella noche, y tomó de lo que le vino á la mano un presente para su hermano Esaú:
And he lodged there that same night; and took of that which came to his hand a present for Esau his brother;
He stayed there that night, and took from that which he had with him a present for Esau, his brother:
duzentas cabras e vinte bodes, duzentas ovelhas e vinte carneiros,

And he commanded the foremost, saying, When Esau my brother meeteth thee, and asketh thee, saying, Whose art thou? and whither goest thou? and whose are these before thee?
He commanded the foremost, saying, “When Esau, my brother, meets you, and asks you, saying, ‘Whose are you? Where are you going? Whose are these before you?’
então, dirás: 'são do teu servo Jacó. É um presente enviado para meu senhor Esaú. E eis que ele mesmo chegará atrás de nós'".
Entonces dirás: Presente es de tu siervo Jacob, que envía á mi señor Esaú; y he aquí también él viene tras nosotros.
Then thou shalt say, They be thy servant Jacob’s; it is a present sent unto my lord Esau: and, behold, also he is behind us.
Then you shall say, ‘They are your servant, Jacob’s. It is a present sent to my lord, Esau. Behold, he also is behind us.’”
Jacó instruiu também ao segundo grupo, ao terceiro, e a todos os homens que seguiam as manadas. Ele disse: "Direis a mesma coisa a Esaú quando o encontrardes.
Y mandó también al segundo, y al tercero, y á todos los que iban tras aquellas manadas, diciendo: Conforme á esto hablaréis á Esaú, cuando le hallareis.
And so commanded he the second, and the third, and all that followed the droves, saying, On this manner shall ye speak unto Esau, when ye find him.

Direis também: 'Teu servo Jacó está vindo atrás de nós.'" Pois ele pensou: "Eu o apaziguarei com o presente que me antecede. Depois, quando eu o encontrar, talvez me receba bem".

And say ye moreover, Behold, thy servant Jacob is behind us. For he said, I will appease him with the present that goeth before me, and afterward I will see his face; peradventure he will accept of me.
You shall say, ‘Not only that, but behold, your servant, Jacob, is behind us.’” For, he said, “I will appease him with the present that goes before me, and afterward I will see his face. Perhaps he will accept me.”
Então, o presente foi adiante dele. Ele mesmo permaneceu aquela noite no acampamento.

So went the present over before him: and himself lodged that night in the company.

Jacó se levantou durante a noite, tomou suas duas mulheres, suas duas servas e seus onze filhos. Ele os enviou a atravessar um ponto raso do Jaboque.

And he rose up that night, and took his two wives, and his two womenservants, and his eleven sons, and passed over the ford Jabbok.

Desta maneira, ele os fez atravessar o ribeiro com todas as suas posses.
Tomólos pues, y pasólos el arroyo, é hizo pasar lo que tenía.

Jacó foi deixado sozinho, e um homem lutou com ele até o romper do dia.
Y quedóse Jacob solo, y luchó con él un varón hasta que rayaba el alba.
And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

Quando o homem viu que não poderia derrotá-lo, tocou a juntura da coxa de Jacó, o qual teve o quadril deslocado, quando lutou com ele.
Y como vió que no podía con él, tocó en el sitio del encaje de su muslo, y descoyuntóse el muslo de Jacob mientras con él luchaba.
And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him.
When he saw that he didn’t prevail against him, the man touched the hollow of his thigh, and the hollow of Jacob’s thigh was strained as he wrestled.
O homem disse: "Deixa-me ir, pois já subiu o alvorecer". Jacó disse: "Eu não te deixarei ir sem que me abençoes".
Y dijo: Déjame, que raya el alba. Y él dijo: No te dejaré, si no me bendices.
And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.
The man said, “Let me go, for the day breaks.” Jacob said, “I won’t let you go unless you bless me.”
O homem disse a ele: "Qual é o teu nome?" Ele respondeu: "Jacó".
Y él le dijo: ¿Cuál es tu nombre? Y él respondió: Jacob.
And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob.
He said to him, “What is your name?” He said, “Jacob”.
O homem disse: "Teu nome não será mais Jacó, e sim, Israel. Pois lutaste com Deus e com homens e prevaleceste".
Y él dijo: No se dirá más tu nombre Jacob, sino Israel: porque has peleado con Dios y con los hombres, y has vencido.
And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.
He said, “Your name will no longer be called Jacob, but Israel; for you have fought with God and with men, and have prevailed.”
E Jacó perguntou: "Por favor diga-me o teu nome". Ele disse: "Por que perguntas o meu nome?". E o abençoou ali.
Entonces Jacob le preguntó, y dijo: Declárame ahora tu nombre. Y él respondió: ¿Por qué preguntas por mi nombre? Y bendíjolo allí.
And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.
Jacob asked him, “Please tell me your name.” He said, “Why is it that you ask what my name is?” So he blessed him there.
Chamou Jacó aquele lugar de Peniel pois disse: "Eu vi Deus face a face e minha vida foi preservada".
Y llamó Jacob el nombre de aquel lugar, Peniel: porque vi á Dios cara á cara, y fué librada mi alma.
And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.
Jacob called the name of the place Peniel; for he said, “I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
Nasceu o sol sobre Jacó, quando ele passou Peniel. Ele estava mancando por causa de seu quadril.
Y salióle el sol pasado que hubo á Peniel; y cojeaba de su anca.
And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh.
The sun rose on him as he passed over Peniel, and he limped because of his thigh.
Por isso, até hoje, os filhos de Israel não comem os ligamentos da coxa que estão na articulação do quadril, porque o homem feriu aqueles ligamentos quando deslocou o quadril de Jacó.
Por esto no comen los hijos de Israel, hasta hoy día, del tendón que se contrajo, el cual está en el encaje del muslo: porque tocó á Jacob este sitio de su muslo en el tendón que se contrajo.
Therefore the children of Israel eat not of the sinew which shrank, which is upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew that shrank.
Therefore the children of Israel don’t eat the sinew of the hip, which is on the hollow of the thigh, to this day, because he touched the hollow of Jacob’s thigh in the sinew of the hip.
